I wanna thank the whole crew for just giving him his props and helping his confidence and letting him know that he's really dat dude. Sounds like that's all that he really needed
I love how everyone there explained to Canibus how much he meant to them & all of us as fans of Hip Hop. The fact Canibus never saw it that way broke my heart. Seems like no one ever gave him his flowers & he never saw how much he meant to people & how many people he inspired. Hopefully he realizes it after this interview
Man you gotta love Bigga. Says nothing for 3 hours, silently observes then when he speaks he drops some profound knowledge. One of the dopest episodes, keep it up Math.
Yup, most men of God/Spirituality are like that... Quiet, in the cut, let you do all the talking and give you the chance to reveal yourself, then come back and respond with some 💎💎💎
Canibus is everything he’s ever said in his raps. A real monster in every way. He’s had his ups and downs like anyone else. When he was up he was looked at as unstoppable and when he was down he went through the definition of hell. Battling Dizaster was just like walking across the sun barefoot looking for shade. Battling LL proved he can snatch your crown with your head still attached to it. To this day even the above average lyricists could never think of the type of concepts/punchlines/bars Canibus would come up with. He was truly ahead of his time and even though things went left for him you can never discredit the brilliance he’s displayed rapping at a time when the level was clearly elevating. Much respect to Canibus.
VERY well said! The one thing that I never thought of, but have mad respect for is how 'Bis is the pioneer of artist having their own website with streaming music that fans can interact on! Canibus.com and poetlauretteinfinity.com was a concept way ahead of its time. Now it's the norm!
"My style of rhyming is ancient like Aztecs and Mayans because I recognize its all about timing / Me and my freestyle alliance, practicing african voodoo science in front of 20 ft bonfires/" - Canibus An elite MC that definitely raised the bar -
It's dope to see Canibus finally get his *WELL DESERVED* flowers 😊🙏🏾 His contributions to hip hop are greatly underappreciated. *An absolute lyrical LEGEND!*
I just wanna say Math, this was the best podcast you've ever done. Your commentary, demeanor, where you took the conversation, the side-hosts kept their contributions to a minimum and everyone just let Canibus shine, even touched his soul it was amazing. Amazing.
Man props to you Math for this , thank you for giving Bis the platform and able for him to get his flowers that he deserves , people can say all they want about some of his career choices or whatever but his own game and contributions to Hip Hop is legendary . Love Bis man this was a great episode , hoping we finally get a Em and Bis collab that is 25 years overdue haha
When I was in grad school and didnt feel like studying or write a paper. I would listen to some Canibus and be like "I bet you Canibus already knows this shit." and dig into my studies.
I definitely still wanna hear a Canibus and Eminem record. Now that Canibus cleared the airwaves and showed respect, EM, MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR HIP HOP!!!!
I've been a Canibus fan since Can-I-Bus. Great interview, hilarious stories, awesome humility, and an emotional ending. Glad to see that he's getting his flowers!
Canibus had a WILD buzz in '98. Even women dug his style. The DMX vs Canibus mixtape circulated like crazy in Chicago. I remember the controversy with Blaze magazine for giving Can-I-Bus a poor rating. I thought they were trolling until I heard the album. Hindsight is 20/20, but I think going on tour with Wyclef before finishing the album was a gift and a curse. He needed to focus on completing the album with a strong A&R and a production team that fed him the right food. Clef is a musical genius, but his style wasn't right for Bis. Second Round K.O. is dope, but other producers should've taken the helm to match Bis' aggression. RZA, Premier, Pete Rock, D.R. Period, Buckwild, Nashiem Myrick/Carlos Broady, L.E.S., Kenny Parker, Minnesota, Domingo, Large Professor, Joe Fatal, K-Def, and Q-Tip would've been an ill production squad for a Canibus album if the budget allowed. Or at least over half of the names I chose. All he needed was a dope radio song that didn't sound forced to balance the grimeyness. Overall tho, Canibus was a real life supernova in Hip-Hop. Peace to the God. 💯
The way how Math ended the segment, that shyt brought tears to my eyes. For Canibus to NOT know how great he is, how he influenced the game lyrically, breaks my heart. That man had me thinking he was a genius talking about "Andromeda, spaceships, he's so high when he spits it lands on a airplane cockpit." And Biz was right, it's the beats. Like with your favorite rapper, favorite rapper Kool G Rap and 30% of the industry, it's the beats.
Canibus was my favorite rapper when he came out. My AOL handle included his name. Canibus gave my generation 82" baby the feeling of a real Tru hip-hop battle when he battled LL. Still till this day nothing has came close to the excitement and feeling to wait on the radio for the next battle song.
I think Canibus should write a book. He known enough, but not so much that we understand his personal journey. He has that writers mind even when he talks and story tells. I'd love to hear more from his perspective.
I'll state this. Listening to Canibus's early catalog especially Rip the Jacker back in the days reminded me of when I ditched school (South Shore High, Brooklyn) and would go to the public library a block or two away on 59th. I would sit in the library reading thick books on psychology trying to self evaluate my own mind. Even though a lot of what I read was way over my comprehension at the time I still sought to take in what I could through context. That's how described listening to Canibus's CDs. I wanted to expand my thought process so I wasn't the type who would shy away from Canibus lyrics. I watched the documentary "The Day After Trinity" directed by Jon H. Else because Canibus referred to it on the track "M-Sea-Cresy". Very influential intellectual artistry. Poet Laureate indeed.
I don’t know who this gentleman is but I got mad respect for him and can see myself watching this series a few times…. He reminds me of my pops. Thanks to the MEO team for letting this man talk. But get that sound upgrade haha
Can-I-bus was so ahead of his time I forgot he was out in the 90s. I listen to his music still, and it's like it came out yesterday. amazing ...top 5 dead or alive!
Glad to hear more of Cannibus personal side of his story. A lot of us were in the dark about where he went after hiphop. That Pat Tillman story was classic. Surprise the brothers ain't remember him. Rest in Power. This whole episode was 💯 He a real traveled O.O.O.G
This was a great interview. I remember the beef but never followed it. Hearing the details about it and how he just wanted to rhyme...you hear the innocence in his voice, the geniuineness. He was so young when he started in hip hop. What he experienced could've destroyed him but it didn't. He's here to tell his story and hear how much he contribute to the music, pushed his favorite rappers to be better MCs. He was ahead of his time. Treat people better. Show them love and stop pushing to the edge. I'm glad he's here to see and receive the love.
Genuine real soul. A poet, a Mozart, Gifted brilliance with a possessed pen, Canibus is a Timeless Talent with a volume of work that should be studied and talked about. Math ended that interview with class. Great job.
I’ve seen a ton of clips of this podcast floating on RU-vid. Never bothered to watch it until I saw a clip from this episode. I was a huge Canibus fan back in the day. Shit I still am. I only wished to see this guy become bigger than life. He technically is but only deep hip hop heads know this. One thing I never knew was his time behind the scenes paying dues. Canibus was so ahead of his time with his lyrics, you can literally hear the battle rap blueprint he created in all of battle rap over the past 15yrs or so. Much respect to an icon and literal genius of the pen. Thanks for making this episode happen!
Great interview Math Hoffa. Canibus is a living legend. I was one of his instructor when he joined the Army. I’ll never forget my experience with Private Williams. I was the only one that recognized him because I was a huge fan. I remember he dropped some jewels to some of my Soldiers who were aspiring rappers. 🫡
Thanks MEO. I love Cannibus! When he left the game my heart was broken because he was at the heart of Hip Hop and inspired so many and he did not peak at his potential. Please come back Cannibus. Thank you for telling us your perspective on MEO. I want to you collab with Em and it's in the future, he pays attention to everything! I wish for your future success!
That was something wholesome if I've ever seen it. Was glad to get a really clear take of his perspective. I really appreciate all of you coming arranging and meeting up for this! Consider me another who was greatly inspired by you Bis! Only wish the best for you man!
He aint lying. Wyclef took him on tour to chill but he wouldn't chill. He got brought out on stage and would do the unedited LL Cool J diss. Cleff would yell hey hey hey with an upset look on his face. Shortly after, Clef ended up doing a song with LL Cool J called what's Clef got to do with it. It was a remake of the Tina Turner Classic " what's love got to do with it". Glad to see he now recognises what Clef tried to do for him
Bis deserves his flowers, he single handily raised the bar on having bars to the upmost elite level, and crazy part is he was either very oblivious to it and or he just never recognized it himself because all he wanted to do was rap, and that he did and does, and did it with ease. Big salute to bis and all he did for the culture, if you haven't givin him his flowers yet, do so now while we still have him with us. We dont do that enough I feel as fans of our fav. Emcees. Only when they die is when we "truely" appreciate whoever it may be, and thats not the proper way to show our appreciation for the artist and the art thats displayed before us. This is a fuckin culture, treat it with respect. Older artist and new...salute them. FIN
Loved this interview. Admittedly, it was the only episode I watched front to end because I'ma big Can-I fan. Thank ya'll for showing him genuine love and respect. I needed to see that.
Everybody in that room, looking at Bis like I can't believe you're here, been a fan of his music for a minute, and it changed so much the last years, I used to type Canibus on RU-vid, and use the filter search to past week/month, and this was the only way to find anything bout him, music or otherwise, really special being able to watch this
People talk about Canibus as if he disappeared somehow. The dude has put out about 20+ records since 98, all of which are worth listening to. Albums like Rip The Jacker and For Whom the Beat Tolls actually transcend his earlier style in my opinion. He NEVER lost his mojo, people just tuned out after he left the major labels. I love Hoffa, but even more after seeing this. I've never seen Bis so relaxed and open in an interview setting, and the respect you guys gave him was well-deserved.
Am glad you’ll gave Mr. Canibus a hug Salute much Respect. Also I’m so glad you all told him how GREAT of a MC he is because he is the G.O.A.T. That set the BARZ so high even your favorite rappers couldn’t handle him Salute and Respect always 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This was beyond beautiful. I love that we live in an age where the sincerity and love for Hip Hop that's behind the drive and accomplishments can be unveiled like this. Just beautiful. Canibus BEEN great. Salute.
Most heartfelt Canibus interview I've watched, so much love and respect . I consder Bis my top 1 "Lyricist" of all time and the sentiments on this interview justify that. Not to say that they share my opinion but they acknowledge Bis as a dope lyricist.
Bigga sits quietly just listening and observing. Right at the end he spoke some of the most profound true talk of a legendary interview. Great stuff and big up Bigga, Math, Canibus and the MEO team.
Yeah yeah, @Math Hoffa!!! this was so dope. Thanks for giving the Canibus man this platform and time cause we all know and agree that he raised the BAR and inspired generations of emcees! He clearly doesn't understand the magnitude of his impact on the culture, especially for lyricist. You brought that man to tears at the end cause he could smell them roses for real!!!! There was a shift that you could feel physically when he hit the scene in the beginning. His energy was like an instant battery in the back for any aspiring MC. He had me walking around my town ready to battle anybody at any time.
Simply put; mad rappers and the "institution/industry" was HEAVILY THREATENED by Canibus, and I feel that's what played a big part in his career being stifled.. Hoffa is 1000% CORRECT when he said for all the rappers that came and raised the bar, Canibus is DEFINITELY ON THAT LIST! CANIBUS IS A BEAST!! 👑 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
"Indemotable, odors & fumes/ Soldiers in rooms. U notice them; they notice u too/ Park my Striker on the street, open the hatch and stand on the seat/ And catch an RPG with my teeth" - Canibus - Rhythmatic Jiu Jitsu
Yall boys just keep doing it. This was a fire episode. It brought a tear to my eye at the end. Shout out Canibus man it's good to see him doing good and get his flowers man. Salute MEO!
Canibus the only emcee/guest where they learned a new term, “fracture size.” A term which could metaphorically imply the scale or severity of disruptions or divisions within a society or group, which could potentially relate to conflict or war.
1 Love for Matt and the team, also nems and his crew for showing love and respect to this grandmaster..man looks like so much love and respect was overwhelming for Canibus.Get used to it :)
Math has told a story of him telling an exec that he "wouldn't kill LL too bad on his own track" and getting put in his place for disrespecting a legend. He and Canibus are more alike than we realize.
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ADDRESS THIS BUT I LOVE THIS GUY MORE THAN I EVER DID HE'S A DIFFERENT DUDE HE LOVES HALLE BERRY! BOATS, TRANSPORT VEHICLE'S & BEING A CAPTAIN OF A 50 FT. YACHT!
Yo….WTF!!! I just read a comment from a dude that said the way Math closed out to the interview almost brought him to tears. So….I couldn’t wait to get to the end to see what dude was talkin about. And I’ll be damned!!!!! All I can say is I too wish Canibus could have saw himself how others saw him. Damn near tragic! Mad respect….just another dope ass interview.
Respect. The only bad thing about this episode was that it was too short. Canibus was that dude to be feared behind that mic. He was a monster. Still is. It was good to see him. Wanted to hear more.
best interview ever love canibus and the way math showed mad respect at the end ..... cani deserves 100 x that amazing much love , hes the goat to me and ive listened to all he greats ...
The best interview not only in hiphop period. Watched every minute of part 1 and 2. Smashed it. Canibus deserves and the hugs and props. To real hiphop heads the best mc of all time.
Math !!!!!! Boy u solving them equations son. Finding the answers. Salute king. Great interview. Can a real one. J hood , Troy ave, now canibus. Wow. We need that Cuban interview math. U on ur own lane done.
After watching this interview in it's entirety, as a man who was heavily inspired by him. I just want to add this and @canibus I hope you read it. You still have no idea how many of us you moulded into iron jaw warriors. You have absolutely nothing to apologise for. You are a man who made mistakes like all of us. Cool J and Eminem included. Please never lose that fire to be the beast from the east you were meant to be. If not for you, lyricism wouldn't have once again elevated and evolved. Much love from a lyricist and a fan 🖤 Thank you Math and the crew for giving this man his dues, I shed a tear.
Love that Canibus is still at it...I need to check in and support. It was LAW in that time...He would link with a Philly artist Journalist and that was on rotation hard as a teen poet who loved painting pictures. Visceral bars, majestic metaphors, and it felt true to him...Truly appreciate this light coming his way and how it was done. He seemed like he needed this and was able to get some stuff off that wasn't translating. I hope LL, Em, and whoever else extends that olive branch and do it for Hip-Hop. I want to see Canibus on @RockTheBells with LL and Em talking about those years and how their careers/influences intersected and just geek out over Bars...hope to see and hear more from him. I have to tap in to see what he is rhyming like and about now.
Ricochet off my lungs comes off my tongue faster than a bullet from a gun ! Yo canibus is a beast math you did it again great interview it wasn’t even a interview just chilling chopping it up real thoro bread keep it up
@math - hands down best interview I've seen in years. Period. Canibus is a legend and the level of respect you and your crew show, the level admiration, and straight up humility from you all in straight telling this man and making him aware of how great he is was amazing. Please bring him back in the near future. Would love to hear more of his memories from his career. Hopefully this can clear the air between him and the others mentioned so great things can happen from this.
I Really Appreciate & Love This Episode With The Legendary MC Canibus. This Was 1 Of The Best Episodes On M.E.O THANK YOU & SALUTE TO YOU. I DIDN'T KNOW CANIBUS WAS SO DAMN FUNNY...HE HAD ME & MY GIRL CRYING LAUGHING 🤣🤣😭🤣😂😂😭🤣
It's high time NORE also brought Canibus on to give him his flowers. The man had no idea what be meant. Canibus (and The Heralds of Extreme Metaphors "THEM"), Nas, Royce Da 5'9, Killah Priest, and Ras Kass are literally the artists that showed me lyricism can literally be about anything as long as it's thorough. Canibus needs to know he changed the way we think, and it was just that he terrified rappers that much! I used to READ his lyrics online just to try and wrap my head around them.
You missed the part where Canibus said..... with Math he was able to bring his one Malibu and pineapple.... and that he didn't have people trying to feed him stuff. Canibus is not interested in doing Drink Champs.
