I've been asked many times what i do to my brows to keep them in shape and how I make them up etc. This film will hopefully answer all those questions as I describe my personal routine. I have a very low maintenance brow routine which suits me and I'm not suggesting others have to do the same. Hopefully it will be interesting for those of you who asked! x

I've been doing my eyebrows like this since I saw this tutorial. Its such a contrast to most of the youtube eyebrow tutorials which look really severe. This is by FAR the best eyebrow tutorial I've seen on you tube. Thank you for taking the time to be on youtube. Thank you Lisa!

i was in law school. i had 3 exams the same week. i wanted to pass them all. 20 days prior the first exam, i made a vow to myself: i would not remove a single strand of facial hair until i pass all 3 of them. i usually take care of my upper lip and eyebrows, and they grew wildly on my face. best studying method ever. and i noticed that i removed way too much hair from my eyebrows: they regained their natural angle, with a better shape.

Can you do a video on selecting the proper brow color? When you look at a client, do you pick a brow color based on their hair color alone or is it also based in their skin tones?
@kamaropayne5226

GREAT question. I would love to see this, but you left this comment 4 years ago, so I don’t think we’re gonna get what we want. Haha. I’d go into a Sephora or Ulta, and ask a beauty specialist to help you choose the right color. If you have dark hair, the brow shade should be one or two shades lighter. If you’re blonde, one or two shades darker. Not sure about red hair. Hope that helps 😊😊😊

This! I'm not easy to give compliments but... girl, you opened up my eyes! I always tried to use eyebrow pencil because everyone said it would have looked good, and it actually looked good on them. But everytime, on my black, long, shiny eyebrows in my thin face the pencil looked too heavy, too obvious, didn't matter how light I went with it. But now looking at you doing yuour eyebrows I just realized that I need to brush the hairs down, exposing the skin underneath, allowing the pencil to set onto the skin and not onto the hairs, and after that, to comb my hairs back up. Great, great tip. I will try it as soon as possible.

Finding the right shade of pencil is key... so they look natural. Nothing too warm or red/orangey and also not too dark. You also need a pencil that is fine, firm and direct so rather than drawing on a solid line you can do lots of small feathery strokes which mimic hair. A great product is the Suqqu felt tip brow liner in 02 which enables you to draw on thin 'hairs' plus it's waterproof or mac do some good pencils. I wish your sister in law a full and speedy recovery x

@eyeswideopen85 I can 'shape' the upper line naturally with the bleach and because they are being bleached at their full length, I only need to do this every couple of months as there is no re-growth. When you pluck its always growing out at different stages so more high maintenance I find. x

@girlythingsbye I use either Jolen or Boots 'Expert' range. The good thing is you get time to get it into exactly the right position before it starts bleaching so if you make a mistake just remove it with a damp cotton wool and re-apply. X

In one video you managed to put an end to how self-conscious I feel about my eyebrows (I have almost the SAME EXACT eyebrows that you do, but a bit thicker), made me comfortable with the fact that they are a bit thicker (not bushy lol), told me everything I'm doing wrong, as well as everything I'm doing right. Thoroughly impressed. I feel the exact same about my brows. Each hair is so important to me, I don't ever want to risk pulling one out and breaking the follicle. So, I just shave them with a tiny razor so they are able to grow back quick and I can change the shape if I want without any commitment.

My brows are looking the best they ever have since I've adopted your take on brow grooming. I've never been happy with their natural shape and used to think that if they natural shape was sub-par, then ultra-tweezing would fix them! Now I only do the strays and pencil/powder with more care and they're lovely! Thanks Lisa :)

Hello Lisa, thank you so much for this video. I am 52, & still have good skin but notice that my makeup routine is having to subtley change now I am older. It is so hard to find any help for the older face, but your eyebrow suggestions are perfect. I have your colouring, but with green eyes, but my eyebrow colour has faded. Hello, I'm eastern european and have fairly thick and slightly unruly brows and I've often been told to have them cleaned and I thought I was strange to want to keep as much of my natural hairs, it's refreshing to hear someone else be so fussy about keeping you eyebrows as natural looking as possible.

OMG this a ten year old video, but it completely changed the game for me. i had been focusing on excessively powdering and fluffing up the front of the brow and getting messy overly intense brows that didn't flatter my face very much. with lisa's brushdown method it seems so strange and like it's not going to work but it really highlights architecture of the brow through focusing on the arch and makes them look elegant and polished

I share this philosophy, I love natural looking brows. However, I can't fully achieve them myself - I have trichotillomania so I've plucked them a lot over the years, making them really thin and now I can't grow them back in anymore. Besides, they were long and sparse to begin with, if I were to pluck a single hair it would show! I try my best to fill them in as carefully as I can, but they will always look drawn in no matter what I do or use. Same goes for some of my clients with similar problems I do makeup on, especially elderly ladies with thinning brow hairs, I struggle so much with not making them artificial.

Fellow trichotillomaniac here (who grew up in the 90s/early 00s and got caught in the super-thin eyebrows fad-yikes!). I used minoxidil: dipping q-tip and stroking it on my eyebrow area morning and evening. It slowly helped mine look less sparse over the course of a few months, making it much easier to put on makeup (easier to get it to look natural).

This video was so helpful, eyebrows are such a huge part of make up because they frame your face. You are right, Lisa, its always better when they look natural, I once overplucked them in an effort to make them look the same since I too have a higher eyebrow and it was a disaster.

Hi Lisa! Just recently I got interested in brows when I became aware of the fact that the brows shape can change your face expression.And as my brows hairs tend to hang down (making my face look sad somehow), I began plucking them a bit. Tadpole! That's the perfect description; I hate that effect too. (I'm also totally stealing the term!) I do have mine waxed, since they are a bit shapeless (and I'm a bit useless at plucking them myself properly). But definitely agree that a natural eyebrow is always the best choice. Thin eyebrows, that are not naturally thin, can create a weird aesthetic effect and overwhelm everything else on the face.

Great video, thank you. I saw you brush your eyebrow hairs down briefly in a tutorial and I've been doing that to start off my brow shaping and filling in, unfortunately over time by eyebrows are overplucked, started with my first ever professional eyebrow shaping I had done and that I stupidly maintained and it got thinner, sparser and now hardly any hairs grow back :-( they are shockingly bad mind you and thanks to make-up I can get them a bit fuller. Thanks so much for doing this video.
