Great video. One very cool feature of the G6 that almost never gets talked about is this -- the multi-function lever, which only appears on the G5 and G6 (but not the GH series, surprisingly). This lever, along with the tele-converter function, turns any prime lens into a variable zoom (when doing photography). For example, a f1.7 25mm becomes a 25-50mm zoom (all at f1.7). With the tele-converter, you lose some resolution, but the versatility it adds to every lens makes it worth it in many cases.
Nice rundown... My main complaint about the A6000 is that with no mic jack, you need to use the multi shoe and one of Sony's propriety mics. That said, it's not really different than the older Sony NEX series, that had such bad AGC and no level control making the mic jack useless...
I got my first G6 5 years ago, the second 3 years ago and the third 2 months ago, for wich I payed near $400 with the 14-42mm Mark I and with the fabolous but underrated Olympus 40-150mm f/3.5-5.6 The first G6 died because a screw was loose and short-circuited the motherboard, the second one because of the mechanical shutter being stuck. Now I want to add the Sigma 8-16mm + Viltrox EF- M2 for extreme wide angle with no gross distortion like a fisheye...
I got a GH3 body and got a 7.5mm laowa for it and I'm very impressed with the 1080p. So much better than my old 60d with the kit lens. I couldn't care less about 4k. Most people will watch on their iphone anyway....Great video BTW, it's relaxing to listen to you talking about stuff! 👌
Panasonic G6 is also my favorite video camera. I tried everything (except for the Pentax), but it seems to me that for video Panasonic number 1 and Sony 2. Sony is better for taking photos. I'm following your videos, they're great. :)
I tried the S5II yesterday, nice camera but Im not sure about the 1080p as no one mentions it, so Im guessing it average to poor. Its seems most new camera are tuned for 4K, thats a pity because there are probably a lot if people still delivery in HD. I shoot with a D750, it has lovely HD because it doesn't have 4K, so the 1080p had to be quality. Ive heard the A74 hd is pretty decent.
Yeah unfortunatley 4k cameras dont have as good 1080p, as native 1080p cameras. My g7 records great 4k, but the 1080p is a lilttle downgraded but its still great if i expose well.
@@benferris2764 just bought the A7R5, Im happy with the 1080p. Im shooting mainly 1080 50p it looks nice, but Im only shooting for social media. The main thing is the colour and highlights look good.

I'd be interested to see your take on the Nikon Z5. The 4K has a 1.7X crop, so I see it basically as a 1080p camera since that's the only way to get full-frame video from it. I have actually thought seriously about picking one up as an inexpensive entry point to full frame since I have only shot Micro Four Thirds up to this point. I would love to know how it holds up on that score. From what I have seen, the 1080p on the Z5 is quite good. There's also its DSLR ancestor, the D750. I think the 1080p coming off that camera is quite sharp. There's also the Sony a7 II, which has the XAVC S codec.

Panasonic is one of the only camera makers who will actually pass on improved features to its current models, even if that model is less expensive. For example, while the GH3 video is excellent, the G6's is impressive in its own right -- and adds focus peaking, stop motion animation and an excellent lens flare feature. Similarly, compare the G7's video to the more expensive GH4, especially in low light. Also, you can easily record events for four straight hours with the G6 and it doesn't even get warm (I've done it).... How many other camera makers can claim that about its cameras costing 10x the price of a $200 G6?
@@NigelBarros I use MFT cameras to film skateboarding and I would say 7.5mm is not wide enough. Get Samyang/Rokinon 8mm f3.5 and a speedbooster (I recommend Viltrox EF-M2) and you will get very wide FOV without getting vignette. It's actually wider than Panasonic HPX170+Xtreme which is very popular setup among action sport filmers.
Ah yes, the G6! Mine stopped working late last year, so I bought the G85. It's great, but I miss how LIGHT the G6 was. Fortunately there's a shop down the street that has two for sale at $150 (thank you, Tokyo!). Gnarly. I think I might buy both! Sony a5100 was my choice - not a6000. It has flip up touch screen for vlog and side slot for memory card. AF is great. I record sound separate, dont need camera audio. S225 for good used one here in Saigon.
A good alternative to the a6000 is the a5100. It has flip up screen, touch focus and most of the other features of the a6000. Usually sells for a little less.
Would love to know your thoughts on image stabilization, and how you achieve your look using bodies and lenses with out it especially how much you move around!

Do you plan to get into 4K any time soon? I'd love to see your content on some older Panasonic 4K cameras like G7 or GH4. Also, since you are coming from skateboarding background - have you ever considered getting a real camcorder? I was using Panasonic HMC151 for a long time but inferior image quality and lack of cheap/good quality fisheye lenses made my mind to sell it and buy a G7.
Hey nigel great video and tip as usual. Can u plz help me with something. I have a gh3 with the lumix vario 12-35mm lens. I have been trying to shoot in 24fps. But my footage is always stuttery/juddery. I pan very slowly and this does not even help. Lets say if my subject is moving his hands or turning at a fix point its the same juddery effect i get. I shoot at f-2.8, 24fps and shutter is 1/50. Plz help. Bcuz i love my gh3.
Well assuming you have the image stabilization on your lens on, it could be your SD card not keeping up with your footage. Does it look stuttery in camera and on your editor?
It really depends on the use case... the a6500 has better af, but has bad battery and overheating problems... and the g85 is way bigger, that could either be good or bad.. but it's watersealed... the 6500 has 1080 120fps... the menu on the g85 is much easier... the price is lower on the 85 by quit a big margin... the lens selection is higher... they both have ibis, the one of the 85 is better though... 6500 has a bigger sensor, could be good or bad... they both are great cameras and will deliver good quality
As i guess before watching your videos canon 80D in your list... 💞 bro i wana know one thing.. When the 80D clips showing, there is a girls eating chocolate that footage is awesome image quality.. can you just tell me which lens used for that footage????
Gotta have the list in the description mate, at least as what the cameras are, even if not the whole shebang. Waste of time to trawl thru the video for it. (Or commentary feeds)
