@@dannyhoeykens Thank you Danny! Stone the Crows was a five piece Scottish band with singer Maggie Bell, they released four really cool studio LP's before breaking up. Their original guitarist Les Harvey (Alex's brother) died after being electrocuted onstage in front of everyone (yikes!). Jimmy joined just in time to help the remaining members finish their 4th album. Their live material with Jimmy is magnificent! The Dukes were sort of a one-off supergroup with Jimmy, Miller Anderson and Martin Stone (Savoy Brown) among others -- Jimmy left and they disbanded after the LP was done. It's under-produced with a thin, "tinny" sound. Maybe someday soon it will be remixed and remastered.

15. Robert Fripp (King Crimson, The League of Gentlemen, solo) King Crimson - Red (1974) King Crimson - Discipline (1981) King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King (1969) One of the ultimate guitar talents who's restless creativity rarely repeated itself. Case in point the three albums I highlighted are from three very different eras of King Crimson, each with a unique sound. He also guested on dozens of albums (Van der Graaf Generator, Brian Eno, David Bowie, Blondie, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian), and had The League of Gentlemen and solo albums. 15. John Norum - Is he the most under-appreciated (by the public) rock guitarist of his generation? It probably doesn’t help that he left Europe in ‘86 right as they were taking off. I’m just thankful he’s back with them now and still making great albums. Three albums: Wings of Tomorrow, War of Kings, Bag of Bones. Favorite performance: Scream of Anger. This was the song that made me a Europe fan for life, and John’s the star with a fast, heavy, almost thrash-like riff and an absolutely killer solo. Previous: 16 - Joe Bonamassa 17 - John McLaughlin 18 - Tom Scholz (Boston) 19 - Muddy Waters 20 - Jamie West-Oram (The Fixx) 21 - Robin Trower (Procul Harum, solo) 22 - Magic Sam 23 - Tsuneo Imahori (Unbeltipo, Tipographica, solo) 24 - Carlos Santana (Santana) 25 - Billy Zoom (X) 26 - James Honeyman-Scott (The Pretenders) 27 - Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream, solo) 28 - Albert King 29 - Ichika Nito (Dios, solo) 30 - Vito Bratta (White Lion)

Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. My pick today is probably the least known of my favourite guitarists. It's DAVE BAINBRIDGE, formerly of Celric folk/rockers Iona, and now with English proggers Lifesigns. A bit like your excellent pick Robert Fripp (who has also played with Iona), Dave is a master of guitar textures, but can let rip with rock licks and shredding solos. He is also a very capable keyboardist, and has won awards for jazz piano. Albums: Iona - Open Sky (2000). A mix of Celtic reels & traditional songs, soft rock and ambient. Iona - The Circling Hour (2006). More rocking and proggy than its predecessor. Lifesigns - Altitude (2021). Third album by this much acclaimed band. Guitar solo: I'm torn between two. Woven chord (from Open Sky). Dramatic solo in the middle of this instrumental where Dave duets with Uillean piper Troy Donockley (now with Nightwish). Last One Home (from Altitude). Dave channels his inner Gilmore in this solo.

Awesome with Robert fripp I became a fan during covid of him and toya's classic cover performances. What's interesting is him playing these great Hard Rock and metal songs he never would have thought of and he speaks very fondly of them. I still love that guitar tone he got on David Bowie's heroes I hope Luis is going to be on tonight with a boatload of questions 🤣🤣 Today pick number 15 It is Mr j y James Young of Styx I was going to do all this with Tommy Shaw but the reason I didn't is because equinox is right up there with some of my favorite JY guitar work 1. The Grand illusion 2. Paradise theater 3. I'm pulling a tie right here for the 3rd Man of miracles/equinox Favorite guitar work sweet Madame blue

15. John McLaughlin But first let me say that I have learned to love the work of Robert Fripp here on SoT. And he is one that I wish I had seen in concert. He won’t be on my list, but he is indeed a fine guitarist. I have been picking rock players this month. When I was a teen, that’s all I wanted to hear. But back in 1978 I saw that this guitar player, that I had heard about who was in The Mahavishnu Orchestra, was going to be playing at a small club in Atlanta called The Great Southeast Music Hall. This place would only hold maybe 150 people. You had to sit on the floor with a seat back to lean against. It was very bohemian…Lol !! This is an event in my life that I have written about many times on SoT… when McLaughlin was sick and The Dixie Dregs came over and played a free concert. And I went back a second day and saw McLaughlin play. John McLaughlin was as great as any rock player…and I was in awe at his skills. It was a dazzling display of pure talent. And he had very short hair…Lol !! Albums. Tony Williams Lifetime - Emergency! (1969) Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame(1971) & Birds of Fire(1973) Song - The Noonward Race 15. Hi everyone and wow, halfway through the month already... Pick #15 it is then, and it's off to mainland Europe we go to meet a German gentleman with direct involving not one, not two, but three great bands, one of which bears his name to this day... PICK course, it's... Michael Schenker of SCORPIONS, UFO and MSG... After making his recording debut on brother Rudolf's band SCORPIONS' debut album Lonesome Crow at the age of just 16, young Michael was poached by British rockers UFO, recording 5 albums in 5 years, plus the genre defining double live classic Strangers In The Night, before his volatile relationship with, in particular, frontman Phil Mogg, saw him turn his back and form his own band, MSG, pausing only to add some guitar parts to SCORPIONS' Lovedrive album. There were sporadic returns to to UFO, but MSG has been his baby for the best part of 40 years already. My album picks are as follows: UFO Lights Out, 1977 MSG The Michael Schenker Group 1980 MCAULEY SCHENKER GROUP Perfect Timing 1987 Guitar highlight: "Another Piece Of Meat" from SCORPIONS' Lovedrive album My HM today is another German guitarist who, along with fellow six-stringer Hermann Frank, laid the foundations for European power and speed metal throughout the 80s and continues to lead the band responsible to this day. Wolf Hoffmann of ACCEPT Guitar highlight, well, it's probably not quite their best or my favourite song, but for its power, pace, frenetic guitar work and its impact on the genre, it has to be... "Fast As A Shark" from Restless & Wild

Good morning (afternoon, evening or night), Pete. Been listening to more Fripp since coming to the SoT channel several years back. Some fine playing and a good choice. Personal pick today? One you mentioned already. This American guitarist and singer-songwriter likely best known as a co-founder of the group Chicago (initially Chicago Transit Authority), Mr. Terry Alan Kath. A guitarist who Jimi Hendrix said was one of his favorites and the"...best guitarist in the universe." Can't add too much to your discussion a few days ago except to say that Chicago came to personal attention when a friend of mine bought three brand new albums [all now classics that included the album known as Chicago II] one day and told me I had to come over and hear all of them. Played them pretty much the rest of the day. 25 or 6 to 4, the second single from the album, had gained radioplay traction on the summer AM radio of the day and still haven't tired of that song. The three albums - Chicago I [known as Chicago Transit Authority}, Chicago [known as Chicago II] and Chicago III. The song for today? It remains 25 Or 6 To 4, even after all these years. Thanks, Pete. Looking forward to your next selection.

Funkadelic's ... Eddie Hazel Funkadelic ... Maggot Brain Eddie Hazel ... Game Dames & Guitar Thangs Funkadelic ... Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On Favorite Track: Maggot Brain Recently, a Facebook friend here in Cleveland shared a great anecdote about Cleveland's love of the song Maggot Brain on its terrestrial radio. He was driving on a dark country road outside of our city with the radio on. He had one of the area rock stations on, and they played Maggot Brain. In the seventies, an overnight DJ started a tradition of playing Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, which is basically an eight minute Eddie Hazel guitar solo, to calm down the drunks when the bars close. After two generations, it made Maggot Brain a Cleveland classic rock hit. So my friend enjoyed Maggot Brain on this lonely dark country road. The next song sucked. So he changed the channel to the other Cleveland rock station. The other station right then started to play Maggot Brain. Rock radio may suck, but at least in Cleveland, we get to hear Maggot Brain. Other favorite Eddie Hazel tracks: Good Thoughts Bad Thoughts (From: Funkadelic... Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On) California Dreaming I Want You (She's So Heavy) (From: Eddie Hazel... Game Dames & Guitar Thangs) The Funkadelic album Standing On the Verge Of Getting It On is important for Eddie Hazel fans because he basically co-wrote the entire album with George Clinton.

He recorded all the solo's (and probably most of the rhythm guitars, too) on Warrant's first 2 albums. So my 3 picks will be Warrant's D.R.F.S.R and Cherry Pie albums, and I guess City Boy "Young Men gone West", or Streets' "Crimes in Mind" for that 80's cheese rock. For best solo I'll go with "Big Talk" off Warrant's first album. Thanks Pete!
