Love the exposition and, along with the inclusion of energy in the system as leading somewhere, the hooking/pawing action of the snap to facilitate an arm drag. Acknowledgement of the involuntary reactionary adjustments made by your opponent that you callout are essential to feeling the sweet spot where applying the technique is most effective. These lessons within the lesson are amazing gems.

Would it be fair to say this is more a combat sport application than self-defense? Just seems like a different energy from the opponent, to me.

I watched a video of a guy trying to do this today to girl in a gym, they there the only ones there so you can imagine what he was trying to do she was strong though and was just pushing him away and slapping his hands away but he was basically using same energy as this. They went to the ground but she fought her way up and ran away If she knew arm drag she could have taken him down just like this I think

For sure this is mostly combat sport but when it comes to self defense, the more you are skilled in a combat sport, the better your techniques will work in reality self defense. Most of the time self defense tactics don't get practiced enough with variability to be as effective as what we do in combat sports. Hence why a well trained boxer or wrestler will destroy a krav maga guy in a real scenario.
