I have the HK91. It has the wide forend and folding bipod. I put the FSC91 compensator and a heavy buffer in the buttstock. Helps to mitigate the recoil impulse. I also changed out the sights to the XS systems ghost ring sights. I never much cared for the claw scope mount. Too high for getting a good cheek weld. The G3 is my go to rifle. One thing about them that not many people know is that they are the only battle rifle that will extract and eject spent brass without an extractor. Because it has chamber fluting, the gases cause the spent brass to follow the bolt carrier rearward and the ejector kicks the brass out the ejection port. I never much liked the collapsible stock. It looks cool, but beats the hell out of your face. I like PARIS products. I have several C308'S and they shoot nice too. The only other rifles I like in 7.62x51 are the Fals and Galil Ace. Both are robust and reliable. But the G3 is still my favorite.
Agree in that the HK G series weapons are the bad ass line of combat weapons. The Germans didnt want to get caught short a 2nd time around by not equipping their soldiers with less than totally reliable rifles.
Huge PTR fan, checking in. Dude, you have a surplus West German scope?!? Nice acquisition. I see you have your carrying handle set up like I do, to the left. When I had mine on the right, it interfered with ejection. Unfortunately, my PTR receiver is out of spec and won't take the West German surplus claw mount I bought for a million dollars years ago. I'm sure I could take a Dremel to the receiver, but I have a conscience or something holding me back. Subscribed.
i had a ptr-91 maybe a little over 10 years ago? i had a couple steel mags and a shit ton of aluminum mags because they were like 3-8 bucks and it was my go to 308. had a pws muzzle brake on mine which looked atrocious i sold it to get a dumb 308 ar. i also wanted to get this guys converted saiga 308 he had done a bunch of cool stuff to at the time to look like a rifle dynamics build basically. he bought 8 sgm tac 20rd mags to double spring them and was running it at rifle courses but he sold it before i had the money. he put a lot into it love yours! did you get the para stocks under 200 bucks? i think thats what kept me from getting one wish i scored those hk 416 style sights for 100 a pair but i was too late to that party.
Are there any particular parts shooting through the years you feel that should have spare parts because of wear and tear? I feel like I should buy one of HK's cold hammer forge barrels for my HK51...
I have the almost exact set up but mine is black and I put the sideways mag release on mine because Ptr didn’t offer it around 15 years ago when I picked mine up
The G3 is made in Germany, The build quality is outstanding. The roller lock delayed blowback system is soft shooting and let's not even start on how much better the barrels are. The G3 Is superior to the M77 in every way. Go watch some videos on the HK 91 and the Gewehr 3. The M77 was made for export, my m76 is more accurate and better made also and was actually issued.
