6k mmr here; the Centaur-Slark matchup in a vacuum is Slark favored. I also believe there are much stronger support pairings than Tiny in the current meta.
Let me give you my ability draft notes on Slark. Shadow dance: first pickable skill. Great sustain. You can pick it on any hero. Core is preferred. Essence shift: If you are ranged agi or universal, it is first pickable. If you are ranged int, there are probably better options. If you are a good melee agi such as Jugg, you can pick it but you need to make sure that you have a catching skill (like blink). If the next person in the opponent team is a super strong ranged agi such as Gyro, you can consider denying it because it can snowball so fast. Pounce: not first pickable on any hero. There are always better options than this. As 3rd or 4th pick, you can take it for escape purposes. You can also consider it to exploit multiple aghanims upgrade. Dark pact: not first pickable but you can take it on a super tanky hero like Centaur. Strong dispel is always useful. It comboes well with aftershock too because of relatively short cd, dispel and good damage. Slark model: the only way to make this model work is to go hard support. Take stuns, slows, catching skills, etc. Don't try to force mid, carry or tank because you can't. Slark is one of the worst heroes in the game. People who first pick essence shift on Slark model almost always lose the game. No skill is good enough to turn this model into a core.
@@solaire6116 You should try. It's really fun and every game is different by design. Draft phase is far more important than regular Dota because you have to be aware of possible overpowered combinations. Anyway. There is quite a player base. I can find a game in roughly 1 minute in SEA and 3-5 minutes in EU and NA. The players who play AD usually don't play any ranked at all. I play AD regularly but I haven't played a single ranked game for 6 years now. I have played 4k AD games. Another fun thing is that you have to know how to play carry, mid, offlaner, and support pretty well because your role is dictated by the hero model and the pick order. You should really try it. You won't regret.

While I've already burnt the directional move+pounce to my muscle memory, i'm really puzzled why valve doesn't change pounce to a point and click spell (ground/hero targeting) so that it won't go in a random direction Sometimes I'm thinking it's meant to troll new players learning to play the hero 😂😂
Slark is my favorite as well. Used him on an forgotten patch (2019 or 2020 i think) where I could 2v1 a 5slotted Alchemist and a 4slotted Spectre. Nothing else made me feel like a god in dota2
I'm just a unranked player, but it's annoying that my teammates do NOT get Slark at all and I get flamed for "running away" when I'm at low health. Especially annoying if both teams are mostly burst damage heroes, so I either get bursted down by the enemy team and get called useless, or be told I don't do enough damage and get called a coward for running away (but surviving with low HP) after stealing a bunch of Agi.
Typical dota 2 player. No knowledge of anything outside their horribly made game that still has more bugs and glitches than an early access survival game on Steam.

One of the bigger questions that I have: is why do people make Thumbnails with Slark as a Shark?! He looks absolutely nothing like one, in the game, and he's definitely not one
Honestly, I hate slark. I hated him ever since they introduced him to the original DOTA way back then. I think he really does not fit dota and transforms the game into a roller coaster, since he is very snowbally from he getgo and very strong and he is only balanced by the slark players overcommitment. Basically, if there is a decent slark player and he is not countered, you are kind of wait for slark to throw the game. It almost never feels like you win vs slark, (unless you are finishing game early with cheese compositions) but it feels like slarks either lose the game or they win it. If you have a nuke comp to counter slark, then you feel like you are the one winning or losing the game, since slark becomes a non-factor. But if not, then every fight feels like you have to all in slark, to burst him before he can do any actions, or he can always get away and if he gets away, then he will come back to kill you all and you used your big spells so you really do not have a plan against him. And making the games so focused on all-ins just makes the game much worse for me.
abusing slark's vision advantage to deward before fights is key. that way during fights you know youre safe, and they can't find you. really frustrating to play against
I'm gonna be that told-you-so guy and say I asked BSJ on stream a few months ago about buying blink on slark, he said he thought it didn't seem too good. Looked pretty sexy in that second replay though
I don't know much about Slark but I don't understand that why is so good. Being able see that enemy can see you (ward or invis heroes) is strong ability. Other than that other carry heroes are stronger and better spells than Slark in my opinion. Anti-mage, Faceless Void, Alchemist and Slardar feels so much better because they have everything Slark has (mobility and escaping abilities) and they also have stun and better farming skills.
Slark is capable of virtually endless agi scaling in addition to the other aspects of his kit you mentioned. no hero exists in a vacuum, and while he might not be at the top of the carry list, that doesnt matter if you can carry and win with him.
I think for porpuses of information it could be usefull if you include the patch version on the description... Just had a patch recently where mage slayer got nerfed, im not sure if it is that good on slark anymore, since orchid is also cheaper now.. Great video tho!
In my (unranked) experience and from watching other BSJ vids, Orchid for heroes with blinks/escapes (E.g. Antimage/Puck), Mageslayer for anything else. He should be focusing on one hero at a time anyway though so the nerf to Mageslayer in regards to Slark is minimal. In any case, Slark loves both items for the mana regen and the great build up of Oblivion Staff.
How is slark good or back? Mage slayer nerf hit Ember and Slark really hard + the additional increased in CD for pounce hurts this hero ALOT. This explains why slark was one of the biggest losers in terms of win rate change along with ember spirit. Not saying this hero is bad, but rather situational and average
thanks BSJ, with the 7.35c patch would you say orchid over mage slayer is like 50% of games? 30%? what sort of ratio should it be built now that the gold difference is 400 smaller and mage slayer got some other nerfs?
I see mage slayer as just a defensive orchid Both shut down spell casters, but one is better if you're initiating on someone, and one is better if you're being initiated against Orchid also better Vs mobility, mage slayer better Vs heavy magic

Besides the great tip to get out of pounce. Slark is the bait for people to either cheat or smurf. Don't approve of this video. slarks mechanics make it easy for him to win solo pub games, Because players like to farm. Slark and sniper need to be deleted for a balanced game
slark is my favourite pos 5 hero, everyone is so afraid of it they instantly report me. since then im stuck in low prio and behavior is less then 1k :( i like slark pos 5 so much though
