In this video I talk about some of the options and features of the WOuxun KG-935G. GMRS Radio. In my opinion so far, the best and my favorite gmrs radio I've seen and used.
I’m GMRS WRMA548 and your right about Wouxon kg935G I have that radio it’s good as you said I also baofang UV-5R .KG935G It is upgrade GMRS radio everyone says sounds great look awesome thanks for sharing your thoughts on KG935G thanks again George WRMA548
I just got the BaofengUV-5R a few days ago and now I got my eye on the Wouxun kg 935g. Just last month I got back into shortwave I got a TecsunH-501X I think I'm getting addicted and I am a new subscriber maybe a week or so ago. The FM radio on my Baofeng don't work but I don't feel like sending it back hopefully nothing else is wrong. Thanks a lot for talking about this radio.
Yeah it really sucks having issues with the Baofengs. I have several of them that have issues. Definitely not the best quality control. But they get away with it cuz they're ridiculously cheap
I ordered mine very early this am! Nice to see your video post! This video is a great reality check for me regarding my purchase today! Your video playlist also helped me decide to purchase the KG-UV9D Mate. THANK YOU for demonstrating how to program this radio without a computer. I am on Mac and cannot program these for the moment via computer. I need to figure out external antennas for my house. We live in a flash flood alley so trying to decide what is safe in lightning storms (which we had a huge one today) =( The storm reinforced my purchase decisions! No buyer remorse at all!
I'm glad it could help. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all! I don't really have a gmrs base set up yet. I use an Anytone 778 that also will allow gmrs frequencies and transmit. A lot of people don't know that. Just make sure you get an antenna that will tune into the gmrs range around 460Mhz. I'll do a video on the Anytone 778 down the road here but it's a great value at $135. You'll need a power supply for it as well. I'll do a video on that sometime too. I use the Tekpower TP30SWI on Amazon. Works perfectly well. I've used mine for two years now. Anytone and power supply.
@@northmanproject4007 This Anytone 778 and Tekpower TP30SWI are great prices!!! Wow this would be a great home base situation!!! Thank you for giving me a research project for the night! Have a Blessed PM Sir!!
@@thequarantinecatholic Check out dxengineering they have all kinds of lightning and grounding options. Some of it's spendy FYI. Plus they are excellent customer service from my experience
I have had mine for over 4 months now and love it. The only complaint and it is a minor one is that you can not scan both banks at the same time like you can with the mate.
I just bought this radio, seems great, was a little reluctant because of the soc chip, but it seems good. Ended up giving it to my great nephew who's still A little young yet. But hopefully, hill work into it With his mom and Dad. I had the 905g for him, but it went dead, no transmit or recieve. Chineese menu. I sent it back to buytwoway radios. Hopefully, they'll give credit to purchase another kg935g. Wich I ended giving to him. Nice Radio, I have a uv9gx on order from better safe radio. Nice video, thanks
Just ordered the Wouxun KG UV9GX. Arriving this Saturday. I struggled between it and the KG-935G. I chose the KG-UV9GX for two reasons. One is it's a dual superheterodyne radio so it's about as good as you can get. It was originally designed as a HAM radio that put out 10 watts. It puts out 5.5 watts but has the same circuitry so it should last a long time and should not have heating issues. The other reason....and the main reason, is because it's a pre-loaded scanner as well and scans on about every frequency you can think of. HAM, MURS, GMRS, FRS, FM, AM, Air BAND. The 935 is on my bucket list though. If I really need a rugged radio or something to hand a friend, I have a BAOFENG UV9G as well. Both the KG 935 and KG UV9GX are great radios. Can't go wrong with either one.
@@sixshooter4570 those KG935Gs are nice too. I bought 2 Baofeng UV-9G radio as for my kids. Plus they are waterproof and cheap. My son wants a KG UV9GX for his birthday so I’ll be getting another one of those soon. He’s 8 and does really good using his GMRS radio properly so I’m trying to encourage his interest in it. Let’s me buy new toys and my wife can’t make fun of me.
FCC just sent me my GMRS call sign yesterday but I've been researching radios for the past two weeks and the KG-935G is the one that keeps coming out on the top, so I'll be ordering on in the next few days. The next thing I want to research is what is my best option for putting together a small repeater. I'm only at 36 foot elevation here so even if I can only get a repeater antenna 25 to 30 foot up in a tree it should make a nice difference. And since I am only 15 second walk from a major river, some boaters might benefit from a small repeater too.
So far it's the best one I've used. I have a few others coming to review but I don't think they will quite match up to the kg935 for the best with the most options. I have the Wouxun S88 and some Retevis. Good luck with the repeater project as well!
Good review. I also just bought a KG-935G. I really only see two short comings with it. Coming from the Ham world, I find the scanning to be slow. Not as bad a a Baofeng, but still far slower than an old Yaesu FT-60. At this price point, I would also have expected it to have a Super Het front end, not be a SOC radio. Still for an SOC it is better than than the cheap SOC radios. I like the fact that it's IP66 rated. A tip to help with water ingress, put a little silicon grease on the gaskets. Just a super thin film will insure no water gets into the side port or battery connection. The radio has a good power output and the sound quality of the microphone and speaker is pretty good. Battery life is also good. The antenna may not be the best, but from what I've seen so far, it's better than most stock GMRS stock antennas. Overall, at this time, I still think it's the best GMRS HT out there. With my luck and as fast as new radios hit the market, a new radio addressing the things I don't like will hit the market next month.....Thanks for the video. Just found you and subscribed.
@@jongregory5308 I think the antenna performs well, I just prefer a more flexible antenna. Nagoya makes a GMRS antenna that works well and has more flex to it. No need to replace the stock antenna if it physically works well for you. In use, it have proved to be a decent antenna.
I like what I see in your videos. I just subscribed and hit the bell. I am looking for a good quality GMRS Radio. I am a Ham Operator but, I have no issue with having a GMRS Radio, just in case. If the SHTF, I want to be prepared and have the EComm necessary to make contact. Thank you for sharing and reviewing this radio. KO4UWU
Great review. Subscribed. Just received my 935G Plus. One question for you. I don’t need to have the dual channels displayed, so can it be set up so that it will display both the channel name and the frequency at the same time(for that channel)? My Radioddity DB-20G allows me to do that was well as my BTech GMRS V2 allows me to sync both the top and bottom displays and display the Name on the top and the frequency on the bottom. Thanks.
Yes I believe you can change the top on to whatever you want it and then just hit band and then change the bottom 1 to however you want it displayed. If I'm understanding what you're saying
Just click through mode on the top area then press band it'll go to the bottom area then press mode again tell you find the setting you're looking for. I believe it has channel name, channel and frequency and then vfo when you click through the mode button
@@northmanproject4007 thank you for the reply. Yes I was able to display the channel name on the top display via the Mode button and then hit Area (I have the plus model) and then change that display to the Frequency using the mode button. The problem is that the radio still treats the top and bottom as two separate areas. They are not sync’s together so that when you change the channel, both displays change to that channel together, so that the display is always showing the name on the top and the frequency on the bottom. If this can’t be done, this is a major drawback to such an otherwise great radio. As I mentioned, my BTech and Radioddity radios allows me to do this. Such a same with such a good display that should be able to display both and synchronize then. Thanks.
I do not have that particular radio but I know that typically the Wouxun lineup of radios is pretty good. I have several Wouxun radios and like them all so far.
On channels where all three power levels are allowed. I believe that it's 500 Mw, 5 watts or 5.5 watts. Why didn't they make the medium power level 2 watts?
I am unfamiliar with GRMS. What exactly is its purpose? I have the impression that it is something between CB and Ham radio. I am a ham radio operator but have been off the air for over 3 years now. The only radio I have with me is an ICOM IC-91AD. I have a friend who just got into GMRS and is studying to get his ham license.
Gmrs is a no test licensed based radio service in the US for public use. The fcc has designated a frequencies in the 460ish UHF range for use. So it's similar in a small way to using ,70cm band. It's a good service. The cool thing is you can get one license and it's good pretty much for the whole family to use. I like it because it gets my kids involved in radio we all can use together. Plus there's options for repeater use as well. A lot of hams in my area are also on gmrs.
I have this radio and I've done ALL of the programming with the internal menu through the keypad. But I'm 99% certain that the callsign customization must be done with an external computer and the programming software.
@@jrforsythe Oddly, I'll be adding the KG-S88G to my radio lineup on Tuesday. I'm also a ham of nearly 35 years but I'm completely inactive in that hobby.
Right on. Well gmrs definitely has its limitations compared to ham. I think the best thing about it is that you can get other family members involved that probably will never become hams. So that's nice
@@northmanproject4007 I decided to add GMRS as an additional means of communication. I have friends who do both and now I can act as a go between. Do plan to get a few family members on GMRS as they would never want to pay the ham exam.
@@JPA66 Yeah Amateur radio is so much more awesome though. I'm always surprised at peoples unwillingness to put in a little bit of effort for something that opens up a whole new world. They'd forget about gmrs quickly lol.
@@JPA66 I agree, there is a place for GMRS. It will never replace Ham Radio for me, but it's a great addition. I see it to be very useful in times of an emergency. Lots of people have GMRS radios. I think if it was a bad emergency, the only downfall would be that the 22 channels will be very busy with everyone bringing out their Baofengs and the kids "My Little Pony" radios. GMRS is also great for camping and off roading or any outdoor adventure. We use GMRS for comms for our local CERT group. We are trying to get our members to get their Technician ticket because of the channel crowding that is likely to occur in an emergency as well as for the other features Ham Radio offers. We have two good GMRS repeaters in the area and a whole bunch of Ham repeaters including one's linked to the Intermountain Intertie system (A whole bunch of Linked repeaters from Montana, through Idaho, Utah to Las Vegas). I hope many who read this will use GMRS as a stepping stone to Ham Radio.
