This video will show my favorite, versatile grab bar solution for fall prevention in your home. This grab bar can be placed anywhere that has a solid ceiling and floor and requires no permanent installation.

My father had Parkinson's -- he used a bar similar to this. It was installed right next to his bed, in his very small bedroom. He was a big guy, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. The bar was a great help.

I got the best price at Home Depot. 2/2023 selling for $170. I love it. I used this video to install - took less than 10 min. Solid as a rock, no screws. * Home Depot calls it Stander Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar, 84- 120 inch Tension-Mounted Transfer Pole in White (it also comes in black).

I take care of a man that needs a grab bar to get in and out of the tub safely - the only problem is we rent a house that frowns on drilling and installing things (yeah, I know) as well as the shower in question is textured so the suction type grab bars won't work. THIS looks fantastic and I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the very clear and concise video.

Does the no drill floor to ceiling grab bar damage the sheet rock ceiling. Do you need to locate a joist in the ceiling to avoid the sheet rock caving in.

Would i be able to use it outside of the bathtub to pull myself up? I'm having a hard time getting out of the tub I'm 5'6" 230 lbs.

It might. The handle piece might not be high enough but the actual pole will be within reach.

Can this be used for floor to bed transfers for a client who crawls but can pull to stand? Is it sturdy enough?

Yes, you might want to put screws in for maximum stability, but even without the screws, it’s very stable once tightened into place.

Hi, I was wondering if the tension against the ceiling will cause damage? You mentioned it is not suitable for drop ceilings or curved ceilings. What about plasterboard ceilings? Would they be strong enough to withstand the tension? Thanks

I’m not super familiar with how a plasterboard ceiling is constructed. You will want something pretty strong directly under the plasterboard to press into. The pole distributes the weight well and has rubber feet to prevent damage.

Drywall is surprisingly strong, as long as you spread the force out, which is the purpose of the H-shaped upper bracket. It's 22" long & ceiling joists are usually 24" on center, so if you can line the ends of the bracket up with the joists in the ceiling, it will be even stronger. And if you're really concerned, put a piece of plywood, about 12 x 28, against the ceiling, above the upper bracket, which will spread the force very effectively. An alternative would be two 28" lengths of 1 x 6. Sandwich carpet scraps or a towel between the bracket & ceiling to avoid scratching the ceiling.

Potentially! There are varieties that have an add-on option of a trapeze for helping with just that.

It is about 8" in diameter at the foot. Solid and well built. I used this in the bathroom (tile floor) after two knee replacements - I love it so much, I am leaving it in place. Got the best price at Home Depot.

How tall is the grab bar from the floor? It looks like the grab bar can’t be lowered, is this true?

It’s a variable height based on the ceiling height and ranges between 32-52” above the floor.

It applies pressure between the base and the top and the pressure holds it in place, there are also some holes on the top for screwing into the ceiling, but finding properly faced joists can be a tricky job.

It has a listed weight capacity of 300#’s but I do believe if it would work if you are placing it somewhere with the addition of the screws. I have used it with clients who are obese and it has been very effective. We just make sure it’s very securely fastened.
