Hi! Yea I’ve looked everywhere for this: I need to make an ultracal30 or Plaster of Paris ornaments from an oil based clay sculpture. What can I use to make the mold negative without having silicone on hand? I do have the alginate but I’m not sure it will pick up the detail I’m looking for. Thank you so much
One other question I have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, using Monster Clay Medium and heating to be able to easily shape with hands, fingers & small spoon shaped tool, how long will the clay stay in that malleable state before hardening to having to scrape to shape?
it's gonna depend on the ambient temp of the room. what I usually do is scoop the soft liquidy clay into a silicon meatloaf tray what will give it space too cool. That will usually last about an hour. clay on the model will vary based on thickness. but you can hit it with a heat gun, which warms the clay on a deeper level than the butane torch which just heats the surface.
I prefer medium. I'm pretty heavy handed so soft gives a bit too much for my personal taste. hard I like for mechanical of scifi sculpting. it'a easier for me to carve straight lines.
