I typically add a label to a clear shoe box this way: I write what I think will be in it on a 4x6 card and slip that in the end. It is easily visible, and so quick to change if needed, This is especially good if my stash of items changes so the container is not the right size. I use this method with Christmas storage and large pieces of fabric bins as well, as they often change from year to year.... I itemize the different fabrics in the bin on the label..... Love your ideas
Norrine, between you and Clutterbug I have everything I need to take away the ‘overwhelm’ that I often suffer from! Clutterbug has helped me to determine what ‘type’ I am which has helped so much. At 58 yo in May I have tried every idea I could find over the years but until I realized I crave ‘visual abundance’ because I forget what I can’t see! Your container that is subdivided made my soul happy! It is clear and just what I need! I wondered why I love the game of Tetris and now I know, rofl!! But as they stack up in the game you start feeling frenzied just the same in real life! The foundation is essential, isn’t it? I appreciate this video so much.💕🌸💕
Hey Norrine....it was sooooo good to see one of your videos again. I've had a few setbacks and hopefully, I'm in the clear for a while. Dear, I want you to know that there is never any need for me to go elsewhere for organization ideas because I KNOW, you are the BEST! You are so creative and intelligent, not to mention kind and we are all blessed to have you. Thanks, Norrine, and until next time....
I'm sorry to hear you've had some setbacks. Hope things are getting better for you 💜You are so sweet, I am so happy to have you here - but if you ever do get stuck, there are so many amazing organizers out there! Sometimes hearing something from someone else will just finally click and help! But then come back and tell me about it so we can celebrate :)
Love “seeing” you. You’re one of a handful of RU-vidrs that I try to watch every video. I had gotten overwhelmed trying to follow too many (I think they’re called) channels and all of their content. So I unsubscribed from a few and skip lots of videos. Keep up the good work!
Love the idea of sub-dividing in the larger container and will be do that starting tomorrow. Another major reorganization in the craft room is planned to start tomorrow, and will just work little by little until the job is done. Thank you for posting another well thought out video on storage options for us to try.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, Dollar Tree for organizing bins. Neither of the DTs I have access to have those can holders, and they are pricey at the big box stores, and I really want a couple of them. That's pretty discouraging. Also, love your foam core board and cardboard box organizer ideas! Showing us how to break things down into smaller storage containers, then place them inside larger containers is key for a streamlined and cohesive look.
I like rice cakes which come in a long sleeve. There are two individual sealed packs of rice cakes in the durable soft-plastic outer sleeve. I found that turning down the top of the sleeve, at the opening, and putting the skein of yarn(s) I'm using for a project, in the sleeve, the yarn remains protected from everything, and THEN, I put the yarn into a cereal box, and if necessary, cut the box to the height of the skein(s). One can toss a skein into a travel work bag, so very conveniently. The boxes can be stored on a shelf like a book. Its very tidy and practical...if you like rice cakes that is! : ) I put my plastic bags to all sorts of jobs around the house. Love your channel, Noreen.
Each time I watch one of your organizing videos like this one I refine my thinking on how to do things in the most efficient way. I have been forgetting to put the smaller containers inside the big ones! That’s why I have stacks of shoeboxes when that category could all fit into one big one without it being too heavy!! I know you always SAY that but I must not be hearing it!! Thank you, Noreen for being my fairy godmother!! Even this 80 yr old needs a sweetie like you with the best, newest, and smartest ideas! You surely are loved!! 🎶❤️
Great storage ideas. I needed this video big time. Like the idea of using large container to store smaller containers to save space. You always have great ideas. Thanks ❤️
Hi, Noreen. I agree with and use most of these tips. However, I look for containers that are perfectly square because the containers that are wider at the top than the bottom waste space and can be hard to shelf.
Very true! Sadly they are usually SO much more expensive. Since they don't nest, the prices are always higher because they can not ship as many. But you are absolutely right, that the square containers store more. Thanks for watching! :)
you amaze me such simple & logical ideas as these would have never crossed my mind but once I see you do them I think why haven't I been doing that for years?!
Norrine-You are so inspiring and uplifting. Watching your videos makes my day! I hope you never quit giving us the great ideas that you do. You’re so talented and have a true gift! Dont ever forget that!! Make it a great day! Sincerely, Lauri
Thank you for the ideas 😊. I saw a comment below about similar products in the UK. We have the ‘Really Useful Boxes’ brand which can be a bit pricey but are extremely sturdy and well constructed storage boxes of many different sizes, shapes and colours. My favourite shop is Wilko’s which sells a variety of very reasonably priced storage and organisation products. They have the tin/can organisers, drawer organisers, the wicker style plastic boxes, baskets, boxes, etc.
@@TheCraftyOrganizer You’re welcome 😊. I love Wilko. It’s not every shop where you can buy flower seeds, dusters, cat food, glue and a toilet seat all at the same time 😄
If you have die cuts, stickers, or scrapbooking stamps (those without the wooden part), remove them from their packaging and arrange them vertically in a box by theme. Make labeled dividers that fit your container to reduce the amount of time flipping through looking for what you need. Much more efficient!
Hi! I'm so glad I watched this today! Just yesterday I was going through the Banker's boxes I have full of craft supplies. I need to put my Sterlite boxes to better use by using the smaller boxes inside! Thanks for doing this break down again, it's always relevant!
I like all kinds of Sterilite storage boxes. Dollar Tree does have a new kind of the shoe box size boxes. The tops do snap on, they come in many colors.
Great video. Great ideas. I have never seen the soda can boxes at my dollar tree. Maybe just never looked for them. I will keep my eye out going forward. I also don’t care for the DT shoe boxes. The lid corners are curved and don’t fit well on my shelf’s. I like the squared off corners on the sterlite containers
I have issues with weight, but if I use the big containers with smaller inside :) and stacked them low, they would work Perfect for my billons of smaller craft items. Thanks, Needed this today!... gt
You can get some smaller... I think the next size down is a 44 Qt. Try that and see if it's easier! OR Try a bankers box - those are smaller and lightweight. :)
I am finally doing what you said in another video that I watched yesterday, "Figure out what containers, size and amount, before buying them. Don't buy then figure out how to use". Last night I went through my beading/craft room and I know you would believe it, I had at least 20 different sizes and types of containers. I'm happy to say I have a few spare shelves of different sizes that I can cut-to-fit with my saw when the time comes. I Just wish our Dollar Trees in Canada had the stuff that the ones in the States have. I greatly appreciate all of your videos and knowledge that you are sharing. P.S. Am I the only one that noticed that you changed the height of that middle shelf with the jars on during the video? ☺♥
Joan - I am so excited for you!!!! Please keep me posted on how your bead storage goes!!!! I love that you noticed my shelf!!! It's a game I play with some of my viewers... I move things around all of the time - then wait to see how quickly they notice. 😉 I think you just joined the game too. xoxoxo
Teterus is a perfect name for organizing approach. I was thinking a visual of what works well together in certain heights, certain standard drawers and what breaks down themes within large containers would be wonderful. My aha moment of this one was the bins inside the large bins. We have an Indiana snake pit of cords tangled together that. Will be my next project.
Hello Norrine: This was fantastic and very informative!!! I really enjoyed the change to the introduction, I’m sure it’s refreshing to swap it up some times. I sooo enjoy being a subscriber and appreciate all you do.just remember when you get to TN I’ll be on the lookout for you🥰. Keep up the good work ❤️😀
@@TheCraftyOrganizer Any ideas on what to do with craft/scrapbook papers,(6×6, 8x8, 12x12 and scraps) right now I have them on the paper racks- remember the ones they use to have in the scrapbooking stores? It still looks great but it takes up a lot of room. Sorry to ask if you did a video on this, new to your channel. Thanks! 😊
@@memekendall3197 i found that 6x6 pads fit in a shoe box. I turned in on its end and it takes up less space while allowing me to see what i have. I write on the edge of each pad with description. 12x12 pads were harder. I finally went through each and pulled papers i loved. I’m donating the rest and it feels so good to free of the extra stuff.
I cannot wait to get more organizing worked on... I have my Bedroom, my "closet" which is actually the attic stairs behind a door, my craft area (in the basement) and ALL my decor items so when I get the opportunity it to do my usual change overs I can find things easily and put things away quickly. I love your ideas and all the suggestions. Thanks for all your videos... will have to share my "closet space I used the same shelf liner as wall paper on the walls and stairs with my black bookcase and small armoire... more later, thanks again for the helpful hints.
I was hoping to be off my crutches yesterday but instead the Dr gave me 1.5 more weeks and an MRI to be scheduled so my closet is put on hold for a bit... but I cannot wait!
Great ideas, as usual. I agree with another comment, why go anywhere else for organization tips. Thanks for sharing. Wow, sure wish I had a neighbor like you. Your the best. Take care. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I loved the idea of placing smaller containers in the large storage box! I do this with smaller drawer containers but never thought of amplifying it. Awesome idea! Thank you, Norrine!
Thank you so much for these wonderful tips. I've been binge watching your videos and I feel super excited to implement your storage tips and ideas because lord knows I need to declutter desperately. 🤦🏽♀️🤭
Thank you so much for all of the inspiration. Unfortunately, living in Canada, we don't have a Dollar Tree to shop at but we do have dollar stores and Walmart in the larger centers. Will be checking some of these out as I organize my craft room.
I have the Target bins with the green handles. I used them to store papers of all kinds when I taught elementary school, then brought them home when I retired. Now they hold copy paper, memory items, etc. They are worth the price.
They are very good quality! I've used them side by side with the container store bins (nearly triple the price) and the only difference was the handle color!
Smart shopper🤪, that way the next time you go to DT you can pick up another one for the kitchen! Ooorr you’ll even decide you need more for something similar!!! ❤️😀
Hubby and I are currently adding shelves to my 1/4 of the storage shed (that’s all the space I am allowed!) We are trying to avoid having any dead space. Sub dividing larger totes is a fantastic tip. Thanks for sharing your experience and creativity.
I bought a set of 10 sterilite 6 qt. shoeboxes from Walmart for $10.22. So just a little bit more than $1 each. Their lids are grey (yawn), but I used them to organize my birds' toys and supplies which aren't immediately visible to me or anyone else. So, no biggie on the color. Btw, I experience SAD: seasonal anxiety and depression disorder. I feel that I almost literally have a craving for bright, cheery colors during the end of fall to the middle of spring. I actually love the brightly colored dollar tree storage options and have found ways to use them to add a lot of color in my apartment year round. It would be awesome if you could possibly create a video on ways to easily add bright colors to homes that can still create a neat, clean, organized look. Though I have bright colors around in each room, I don't think the rooms really mesh together cohesively, if that makes any sense. Each room just has random florescent type colors throughout. At any rate, considering many people have to deal with SAD, I thought a video (or two?) showing ways to incorporate bright colors throughout a home would be helpful to a lot of people. 🙂
I love that idea, Angela! I am learning about SAD right now! As I am pretty sure that is what hit me this last year... and looking back - MANY years in a row! I will see what I can do as the summer ends. xoxoxo
Very good tips. I have a considerable amount of jewelry making supplies and have them divided up, but storing the smaller containers in larger ones would be very helpful. Good to know about the collapsible bags, too. Thanks for all you do.
You are so precious... "If you have a lot of craft items you can divide them up, then put all those containers into this one big sterilite container". Oh girlfriend, you'll see... the former back office is the craft storage room, 3/4 of the garage is craft items, tools (big girl tools), and work surfaces. The shed on the side of the house that my ex built is a jumbled mess of STUFF, mostly craft and/or storage related. All that and I still have to craft on the dining room table... 'r wherever my papers and I land... 😲😬😟🤫 Oy oy oy! ❤🌞🌵 MK
@@TheCraftyOrganizer YES!!! You pick the dates and I'll find you @gmail.com later on today! We'll meet at the "Pick Your Own Cactus (and succulent)" place and you can follow me in. Check your calendar! XOX. MK ❤️☀️🌵
So much good info in this video. I recently reorganized in my craft room and has trouble finding containers with straight sides. I ended up finding exactly what i needed at Daiso. I was happily surprised at the choices and will shop there again. I think the price of each container was $1.50 and they were perfect for my cards and cardmaking supplies.
I have been to a Daiso only once. Their west coast stores are mainly in California. I do think what is especially valuable about this video is even when she talks about stores/brands you might not have nearby (we are getting a Target store this year! Which will cut 150 miles off a Target trip!) she goes into some detail about what she looks for (sizing considerations, features that improve sturdiness, price, etc.).
I have been packing - and sorting, purging etc now , it seems forever. I realized in the last two container videos how much I have actually learned from you. I have been. Adamant of some things without knowing why. I guess I could have just said ‘ the Crafty Organizer said to do this. Even though the readying is being a slow process, I feel good Sibiu ,.,,¡…M"
Your videos always are inspiring and smart. Thank you for making them. Sadly, I live in a country without Dollar Stores! Horrors! But I’ve been taking boxes and decorating them.
Thank you for this tutorial, I like to craft, but I have stuff all over the place and unfortunately by the time I gather what I need ,my husband gets home and have to cook 🤭 but now I'll get organized Thanks to you 🥰
Thank you once again for clear concise suggestions! I was imagining where I could use these suggestions as you were explaining them....now to get them implemented 😃
