This is towards the end of the movie, "The Sixth Sense" starring Toni Collette and Haley Joel Osment. This movie was directed by M. Knight Shyamalan. Bruce Willis is also in the movie, but not in this scene.
She was born in November 1972. This film was released in 1999, before her 27th birthday. So she was probably 25 or 26 depending on how long filming took. But still very young! One of my favourite actresses 💗
Of course as a useful reminder that 90% of time child actors have been brilliant throughout the film history: they are always at their natural best - and products of especially careful personal direction.
I think why this scene is so powerful is because everyone can relate to having lost someone in their life and have that desire to know that they made some kind of positive impact on the lost ones life.
Well as for me it's overwhelmingly due to Toni Collette's brilliant performance. You can't help but to feel for her (and his son) but no personal history popped into mind.
Ivestor1 A couple of months ago when I watch this clip for the first time, I didn’t have a relative passed away, but now I do. And that hurts every time I think about it.
I think it’s so overwhelming because she suddenly unterstands and they feel finally close to each other - for the first time in the film. It’s reflected in her own story with her own mother.
Toni Collette. Australian actress - not only KILLS this scene but still manages to keep a flawless Philly accent. She and Meryl Streep are my two favorite actresses of all time.
No other actress could ever of played Toni's role in this movie, especially this scene! You can't help but get choked up because she's choking up.. Very talented actress to be able to get the audience to copy her emotion
the acting in this scene is just absolutely brilliant. from the young Haley Joel osment and especially from Toni Colette! brings tears to my eyes every time. this is why I love cinema and dramatic film
that’s not a nice thing to say is it ? I’m sure you wouldn’t like someone to be so unkind to you in the same way if you had problems in life you were struggling with.
The best thing in this is how everything naturally and dynamically flows in here, just very real, the conversations and emotions, which build up layer by layer, with subtle and careful construction of gradual intensity.
Toni Collette made this scene unforgettable, I don't believe in spirits of loved ones visiting us, but this scene still makes me cry because of her powerful performance
I've always loved this scene. I still think it is one of the single most well acted, written, and directed scenes in any film. Just perfect, touching, and lovely.
The culmination of the characterization of the movie. The characters are so well written, they are real and we empathize them and this one here is the payoff. What an amazing scene and my favorite also.
+Kevin Fairweather Yep I can't believe that both Haley Joel Osment and Toni Collette were nominated in their respective categories and neither won - absolutely robbed, both of them
I think this goes down as one of the most incredible movie scenes ever. Two absolutely incredible actors. It's actually impossible for either of them to give a bad performance and they've both been in some really shitty films in the past, but they never fail to impress.
The whole film, this is my favorite scene, get emotional when I watch. Toni Colette is involved actually in the scene, the crying is real. M. Night Shyamalan has had a lot of sensitivity to create this scene. Scene BRILLIANT, FANTASTIC, I love it.
best movie ever. Great acting and best mom ever. so supportive of her son. holding down multiple jobs and still loving accepting him at the end of the day. got damn.
Such a powerful scene, made more powerful by two amazing performances. It's crazy to think that Haley Joel Osmond was a little kid, but held his own with Toni Collette in this scene. Awesome acting, great movie. @ Patrick Dyer I'm with you man, its obvious Shyamalan at one point had genuine talent, hopefully someday he can find it again.
I think about this scene all the time. It comes back to me, again and again. Something about the weight being handed back and forth, loving, fearing, grieving together, all at once... it is wonderful
She's so brilliant, I totally sat there in the movie theater thinking "how come I never saw her before, when she's this good? maybe she does mostly stage work..." Her Philly accent had me convinced she was American. Then I saw her name in the credits: "Toni Collette," and realized she was the Australian actress who was so great in Muriel's Wedding. She looked and acted so different I didn't even recognize her from the previous time I'd seen her in a film. That's good acting.
This scene clinched the Oscar nomination for the kid. A heartfelt scene about the bond between mom and son. My GF starts crying as well when she watches this scene.
I am choked up every time I see this scene. The acting - on Toni Colette's and Haley Joel Osment. The sensitive and tender way of dealing with such a difficult subject. That's just it: it is a very tender subject, our loved ones in the next world, Malcom and his wife, and those people who are sensitive to it. It can be scary, but many times not. This is one of my favorite movies of all time as it makes my hair stand on end, but touches my heart very deeply at the same time.
I TOTALLY agree. They are both amazing and I couldn't imagine anyone two other actors playing their roles. They had great chemistry and this has always been my favorite scene in this movie! :D
The emotional impact of this scene is incredible. I get teary-eyed and think about my late sister everytime I watch this. Toni Collette makes you cry along with her and then you have to watch it over and over again......so you can cry some more. BEAUTIFUL.
i still cry to this the day whenever i watch this scene. just imagine ur own kids telling you things about your past that he or she couldn't possibly have known, especially a heartwrenching memory as that.
Haven't seen this movie for a very long time but the intensity of this scene had me reaching for tissues again. Powerful performance by Haley and Toni. If a movie messes with your emotions like this scene, it has been a success.
This was also my fave scene of this brilliant and very classic film, I believe this scene alone got both Haley Joel Osment & Toni Collette those Oscar nods. Collette is such an amazing actress, her facial expressions of OMG are just brilliant. And when he tells her about her about grandma who's dead, she just amazing the way she holds it together. Scene makes me break in lots of tears everytime even if i know what's going to happen. Haley Joel Osment was such a gifted actor, what happen to him?
this movie is powerful because it hits you from every angle: you're already tense and scared and then you get hit by such a dramatic moment, and then a clever twist ending. one of the smartest films i've seen
love how she gets whenever he ask's her questions like that she seems realy urgent at letting him no that she does love him and that she would never think he's crazy or a freak or anything..... realy sad scene but my fav
Incredible scene with two superb actors. This movie is a modern day classic. It's not really about ghosts. It's about the relationship between a mother a son. That's the heart of this film. The ghost element is simply the device that allows that relationship to be explored. Brilliant movie.
Well, dude, when I was a little kid (like two or three years old) I had two 'imaginary' friends, Martha and John. Apparently I drove my parents nuts because I would insist they were real and couldn't understand why no one else could see them. The thing is, I can actually REMEMBER them; Martha was a girl of seven or eight and used to wear an old-fashioned print dress. John was a bit older, perhaps ten, and had brown pants held up with braces. I wasn't scared - as far as I was concerned they were just two additional playmates. I don't recall exactly when I stopped seeing them - I got older and the world intruded, and one day I realised I hadn't seen Martha and John for a while.
@@ramaarafat4608 Honestly, they weren't creepy. They looked as solid as you or I, and I never had the impression that they meant any harm - the only difference was that nobody else could see them, but kids being kids, I didn't worry about that aspect of it too much and just enjoyed my playmates.
To any Kingdom Hearts fans like me who may be here: Haley Joel Osment did the voice for Sora about three years after this. He has always been an incredibly good actor, both in movies and voice acting. This is an amazing film.
What a powerfully moving scene. The acting by both is oscar winning. One of my favourite films ever and this scene is possibly the best acted in the movie. Great choice.
I love the ending is to see how much the mom loves the son and how incredibly smart the boy to communicate and be able to link the evidences for her mom to believe him.
this is probebly my most favourite film, it just works, everything, the story, the actors, everything. This scene is my favourite too, sooooo sweet, he is lucky with a mom like her, very lucky
AHHHHHHHHHH tears...every dam time...I can never hold back from balling my eyes out on this scene..it never fails...definitely the best scene of this film and one of the best scenes in film history.
