Selection of the scenes, which were not chosen into final version of the movie The Sixth Sense. Accompanied with a commentary of M. Nights Shayamalan, the film director.
Haley Joel Osment should have won the Oscar for this. He is the whole reason this movie is scary: we feel his fear and his fear is so real and so palpable. One of the best performances by an actor, of any age. I saw this, at the theatre, before the spoilers, and it was riveting.
One of a very select few movies I’ve ever returned to see again in theater. Great the second time. Also “There’s Something About Mary”. Mostly because I couldn’t hear many of the lines over the laughter.
I have loved him since his ‘Moonlighting’ days. He just always had that certain something. The nice looking guy, sweet, chivalrous, with a great sense of humor. I’m so sad for what he’s going through right now.
I never really cared for him until I saw this movie. I saw him as a strong, protective adult in the room, unlike the usual loudmouth douche he was in everything else. And I really loved Moonlighting. Just not him or his character. But this movie changed him completely in my mind. He made me feel safe when he was on the screen.
Haley should of won the Oscar for this movie, that year micheal Caine won.. haleys performance is so believable and touching in this film.. unbelievable for his age!
I saw Haley in an X File which was surprising. He did not grow up to be the slight boy turned into thin man. His acting skills were awesome as a child, and as an adult.
The chemistry Bruce has with Haley is very real looking especially when he’s playing with the soldiers. It makes me think that he’s an caring and understanding father.
No it's not. I guessed the doctor was a ghost within minutes of him appearing with Cole or maybe after he got shot, I cant remember the movie much now. I seen better movies. One of my favourites is The Japanese Story. I think it can be improved on but it's a movie that stays with you a long time. This movie didn't, but then again we are all different.
Okay, stop right there. 😭 Poor little Cole, bless him and his big heart. The soldiers who can't come home and his connection with them is heartbreaking.
American Beauty was cold and sterile, with disturbing subject matter. It was very clean and professionally done. However, there really wasn’t anything to truly enjoy in the experience of watching it. A one and done film. The Sixth Sense was a heck of a ghost story, complete with excellent performances, wonderful story telling and great direction. It was a truly enjoyable experience that people wanted to see multiple times so as to pick up in what they previously missed. The Sixth Sense was easily the better of the two, so it was no surprise American Beauty won Best Picture.
@@vinceventresca6763 That was one of the best , summaries of American Beauty! I hated it, I fell for the hype, but appreciated cinematography. It's one of those movies, for me that the characters are unhappy due to their own (poor?) choices in life.
He made the right choice cutting all of these scenes. It didn’t make sense him helping out spirits all while being deathly afraid and/or assaulted by them and the original ending was heart wrenchingly beautiful! 👍🏾
Yes I agree, although all of these scenes are masterful in their own right and it was too bad they had to go! 😩 Thank you Mr. Shayamalan for your sacrifices and for your amazing sensitivity and patience with your actors, giving them the time and space to do or say whatever they felt necessary at the time. 👌
The scene with the old man could have happened at the end, maybe with his mother watching, to show how much Cole grew and was able to help people without fear
It could've been done after the play right before Bruce's last conversation with his wife. However would've had to be reshot with mom standing in Bruce's spot. Probably would have been cut again for time restraint.
I remember watching that too, especially when Cole comes home from school to see his mom and “Malcolm” sitting opposite each other and not even talking. I was like, “Well that’s kind of strange that the mom doesn’t even say anything or at least introduce Cole to the Dr.” After watching the end that’s when I put two and two together.
Another thing that sort of gives away that Malcolm is a ghost is that sometimes Cole seemed surprised at seeing him, like in the bus scene, where he's going to the little girl's house. But what really gave the whole thing away, for me, was the 'info dump' scene where Cole says "I see dead people. The dead don't know they're dead, they only see what they want to see. And the dead can't see the other dead..." Too much information, a 'dead' giveaway!
Yeah, and I think that is another reason it was wise to cut that scene. I might have been more likely to wonder about him just walking into that guy's house and not getting offered any lemonade. ;-)
When we watched this for the first time we rented it, and my mom called it in the first 10 minutes and we laughed because that was a ridiculous thing to think - she was understandably upset with her 3 teenagers mocking her so she got up and left watching it. About halfway through, we started noticing Bruce wasn't acting normally around the kid and when it was revealed we were all shocked and I remember shouting "mom you were right?!!!" And her shouting back "I'm always right! I'm your mother!" 😅
I loved the soldier scene. Haley Joel’s acting isn’t acting.. it’s living life out and has true emotions. This kid was born an old soul. Love his character. Love him. And Bruce Willis is phenomenal. By far my favorite movie of them both. I still tear up when I watch it. Wow. What a gift to have a sixth sense.
Any movie that can totally surprise me at the ending is a good movie to me as I can usually figure out what's gonna happen in movies. At the end of this movie I was like "Wait. Whaaat?" Then I immediately had to watch the movie again just to see that his wife never actually responded to anything he said. I remember wondering why he could just walk upstairs in a house of ppl he didn't know (little girl poisoned scene funeral get together at house), I thought "oh he can just walk upstairs in someone's house". It was lots of little things, I thought how it was a stupid movie just because of things like that. So when it ended, I was amazed. Absolutely stunned and immediately re-watched it and thought how the movie was just brilliant! It fooled me! Unexpected ending! BRAVO! EXCELLENT! This is my favorite movie of all time. SCENT OF A WOMAN is right behind it.
This movie showed that Willis was a great actor. He has the ability to show a wide range of depths of emotion. It’s sad that he has fallen into complacency and only shows up know one dimensionally.
I almost didn't go to that movie because I couldn't stand Bruce Willis. I left with entirely new perspective of him. He was more heroic in this than in any of his action films. He made me feel safe when he was on the screen with Cole. I knew the ghosts wouldn't hurt him if he was there.
When you watch this movie and are so shocked and surprised in the end, you have to go back and watch it again and then you pick up on all the clues. The soldier scene with the two dead soldiers definitely would’ve fit right in. First time around it wouldn’t have seemed like much, just a kid making up the story. Second Time around when you actually knew what was going on? I would have cried my eyes out!
One of my favorite movies. I’ve seen it many times. Great story and great acting. As we lose Bruce Willis to a devastating disease, this is one of the roles I’ll remember.
Haley must have an astounding emotional IQ - super genius. I'm glad and deeply moved to have seen these scenes. They show a depth so human and hidden that it's stunning. Willis' role is also illuminated. What a movie! It bring us into other dimensions where love and and compassion demand to take front stage in human existence.
We only see Cole’s perspective a few times. At home, he has everlasting encounters with ghosts, sequentially. Cole may actually be crowded with ghosts, but the ghosts don’t see each other, so we only see one at a time.
@@emilymccormick6006 Remember...he says, "They only see what they want to see"? If they didn't know each other in life, there would be no reason to see each other (or want to) in death. That's my take on it anyway.
Sadly not everyone was that respectful, I remember my older sister telling me a friend of her boyfriend, all teenagers at the time , had opened the theatre door and yelled “Bruce Willis is dead” to the entire audience. Thankfully most people weren’t that thoughtless.
I was teaching a college class at the time. I had just seen the film and told them they needed to all see it by the following week so we could discuss it. A student in class said in front of the entire class, "I already saw it and I cannot believe..." and told the freaking ending. I was furious. 🤦♀️
I loved this movie, I never saw it coming. I though Bruce Willis was a person, never doubted it, even when he was at supper with his wife. I have ever yet to see such a great show, that moves along with just enough info to keep the movie easy to follow. You we’re right to keep these scenes out. A real gem of a movie.
@@michaelhamerin3814 too bad because I didn’t and blew my mind. Kinda neat getting fooled like that. I too do that to my wife, I’ll say I figured it out then she does and it’s way father 8nto a movie. It’s nice to figure it out, but more to have them fool you. I looked back and said ”ah I should of saw that”, but still nice to be fooled.
@@Dan-qt7kq Yes, I agree. What bummed me out me was that it seemed too easy. I never considered it to be very well constructed. I'm glad it was entertaining for so so many, but I still didn't see it as such.
Bravo, M. Nights Shayamalan! Wonderful work. Wonderfully difficult choices when cutting these scenes. Brilliant film. I believe this is one of the few films that truly raised the bar in filmmaking history.
This was and is one of the greatest movies ever filmed. Probably in the top five of all time. This movie brought it all, acting, script, emotion, fear , sadness and an unbelievable surprise. It’s simply genius. Congratulations. Try to top that one.
This movie hit me like a freight train…..I went into a mini-depression for weeks, even thought it was a happy ending, the content just ripped my heart out.😰
Yessss me too! Also…. His lady in the water movie I was crying my eyes out because I knew and experienced things like that but never had anyone there to help or believe me, the way the renters pulled together was amazing! He’s the best writer director ever!!
The most amazing film. It was brilliantly written and acted. The ending blew me away. As other people have said, when you watch it again the clues are all there. Superb.
He is in the Netflix series "The Komisky Method". He is introduced in the last episode on the second season and is a recurring character in the third season.
@@Veronica.A.I think ppl that can see and talk to the dead and have psychic abilities are on a different spiritual plane than most ppl. I feel like there is a godly thing going on with these ppl.. like god chose them.
Omg , again what an amazing sequence. This movie is Epic. These Actors, and Night is a prolific thing that is no longer made in movies today. I miss the quality of movies made by Magicians like Shyalaman.
At 13:30 I can hear my dads whistle he passed last year . It’s a whistle similar to my dads, his whistle was his way of calling us in after playing outside or to get our attention. Te extraño padre.
I was so bamboozled that the “secret” of this film was so carefully guarded! I heard how great the film was, what a great job the actors did, the AMAZING job done by the director, etc. It made me feel like I was looking at a picture and missing the picture within the picture! This is definitely in my top 5 movies of all time and I thank everyone involved.
I felt there were missing scenes, did not realise how good they would be, how they fleshed it out. The final cut was "jumpy". Profound story, so so good. I feel the astral world is very real and effects our inner life all the time.
i love this film. the kid is very good. that scene with the soldiers is so poignant. i see why you took the scenes out of the story, but i’m so glad to see them as they really add more depth to the boy’s character. Bruce Willis is such a good actor - he carried out the subtleties of his character so well. so thank you so much for showing us these scenes. you are a fantastic director. and thank you, Filmingmentory for posting this. it is so appreciated :) 🌷
Even though I realized about halfway through that He was dead. I still hung on to every scene. Just watching Haley's/ Bruce's performance was phenomenal! It nearly broke my heart that the two of them were trying to help each other throughout the movie!
I remember seeing the Mr Marschal scene when The Sixth Sense came on TV one time. Nobody believed me! LoL I thought it was such a poignant scene!!! But I was really beginning to think I had imagined it! I’m soooo happy to have come across this video! 😅😅😅
emily endicott • So, I wasn't the only one! I loved that scene and looked for it in every showing after that to no avail. Of course I had thought he was dead from the start, so all those little clues just verified what I thought to begin with. You had to have figured it out from the wake, right, I mean he was there with all those people and no one wondered who he was or why a stranger was at this child's wake?
The actor playing Mr. Marshall played another grieving character in the movie, “Angel Heart”…another movie that confused the audience until the end. Mickey Rourke did fantastic job. If you liked “Sixth Sense”. You’ll enjoy the far darker, “Angel Heart”.
@Rhonda Bothelio It’s so funny that you say that.🤣 I, too, had to immediately rewatch it to make sure I understood it correctly. I really don’t know why that movie didn’t garner lots of awards… I thought the photography was excellent …it really created that eerie mood that pulled you into the story. And the writing was very skillful. Both the audience and Mickey Rourke’s character were being fed clues via a drip feed… it skillfully kept him and you confused. Talk about audience participation!! One of my all time favorite movies…. Rourke was at the top of his game.
@@maryscheitler2488 I suggest you view it on a format which you can rewind or replay…because you’ll be saying to yourself, “Wait a minute! Did I miss something? What exactly was said then?” You and Mickey Rourke move through the film equally confused. I thought that was very clever writing.
The best Shamalayan film ever. Great direction, cinematography, acting, storytelling, you name it! Toni Collette is in two of my all time horror films. This one, obviously, and "Hereditary". Both films are in my Top 10.
Several scenes stunned me. Not because they were necessarily original, but Because of the actors in this movie. When Willis is shot in the beginning, and the man who does it reveals his inner pain. 2) When Hailey & his Mom are in the car and Hailey explains all about his Mom,'s Mom to her. Collette's reaction to finally believing her boy who sees dead people is Remarkable 3) When Hailey takes the Dr to the receptuon after the funeral, and Hailey hands the grieving Dad the tape that shows his wife killing their child. The Dad's horror on his face is in itself worthy of a Oscar. 4) The obvious compassion Haily shows in this film for everyone 5) The interaction between Collette & Hailey as Mom & child is so touching. The iconic films are the ones that are original in storyline and have the right actor to play each character in orginality.
I loved this video with your description of the deleted scenes. Great storytelling and character development. I do not know what your belief system is but the affect of the child’s benevolence toward the elderly man is so in keeping of what I know to be true; our kindness to others has a long term effect. Perhaps you will release a version of the film with the deleted scenes with your comments during or after the film.
Bruce and Haley were magnificent together. I definitely believe, this mesmerizing and emotional movie, deserved, the Academy Award, and both actors, with M. Knight, the Oscars. Also Kudos to wonderful actor, Toni Collette for best supporting performance! She got the Philly accent down pretty good. I lived in Philly and worked around that area for months, at that time to. Great memory.
Exactly what I was thinking. It was odd for Malcolm to be in Mr.Marschall's house without introducing himself. The scene sort of gives away that Malcolm's a ghost.
But remember, it was the same situation when Malcolm was sitting with Cole's mother, we assumed they had been talking and were interrupted when Malcolm came through the door. Most of us quickly explained it away in our minds because like the great writer said, we have the, "see what we want to see" mentality which made his writing come alive on film! Another AMAZING movie by M. Knight Shyamalan!! ♥️👏👏👏🏆❤️
Mr Marshall's scene would have given away too much. Another adult who ignores Malcolm, who doesn't invite him in, or offers him a drink. I understand we need to fill those gaps, but many people (not me, for sure 😅) could have guessed the reason.
That's true. When I first saw the movie, I had an inkling of the twist during the scene where Malcolm and Cole's mother were sitting together in the living room -- but not talking. And, when she left the room to make triangle pancakes, she didn't acknowledge that she was leaving Cole to his session with Malcolm. This would have clinched it.
I agree, this film, followed by "The Others", which was clever and heart -wrenching in its own unique way, but not as profound, human, beautiful, spiritual, and deeply moving as "The Sixth Sense".
I do wish these scenes had not been cut, especially the Mr Marshal scenes. I think I could have dealt with the initial confusion better than the vomiting child ghost. It adds compassion to Cole's gift. And I don't think the goodbye was redundant. I saw the original cut. It was shocking. But I don't think the deletion of these cuts would have taken away from the shock or horror, or the compassion of the entire film.
i disagree, i think it was best mr marshal's scene was cut. when Willis' character is at cole's house scenes are set up to make you believe he has already been interacting with Cole's mother and now he's there soley to interact with Cole as his psychiatrist. At the wake you don't give much thought as to why no one was talking to Willis' character but in Mr Marshal's home its very perculiar. you just have this stange man in your house lurking in a corner and your not going to address it. Also, the scene takes away from the impact Willis' character has on Cole. in the final cut you have a terrified boy dealing with this horror and no one to confide in. Willis' character comes along and Cole starts to open up to him and Willis is able to direct him in a positive direction. to not be afraid of the ghosts but instead help them. Willis has managed to help Cole where he failed the other kid. he believed Cole and helped him build strategies to deal with his reality. at the end when Willis' ghost passes its fufilling to watch as a viewer because he was able to truly help Cole when he couldn't help the other kid and because he believed him he could see he is a ghost and say goodbye to his wife and move on.
This movie and The Others blew my mind with the "big reveal" at the end. Oh, and Identity did the same thing, but not quite to the same degree as The Sixth Sense and The Others. With Identity, the reveal just kind of put everything into perspective and I was like "Ohhhh, now I get it", but The Sixth Sense and The Others made me go "Wait! WTF? Holy crap!"
Michael Caine won (whom I adore) and he actually got up there and instead of making the usual speech, he humbly acknowledged everyone who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. After that, he singled out Hayley and being the English gentleman that Michael is, complimented him on his amazing performance at such a young age. He was in awe of him. ❤️
Loved this movie when it first came out. Stiil do. I fully understood it without the cut scenes. Mr. Bruce Willis, so sorry of your terrible suffering (2023). 💔 You gave us all so much entertainment through the years. Best to you sir.
I tell ya. It was and is still one of my favorites movies ever. You did everything right. I went and watched it a second time and took it on even more. Sometimes story tellers are better than the beholders. It will never change. Thank you for a truly beautiful work of art.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time especially since this used to be the exact neighborhood I lived in. Beautiful neighborhood and beautiful memories.
The first deleted scene hits close to home. He was deployed in Iraq in 2007 and I had an AVM a brain hemorrhage. I was lucky to be on base and I wasn’t alone. The odds of me dying were higher than me surviving. Every day is a gift cause tomorrow isn’t promised.
I get why they cut the part with the old man , even if it is a great scene it shows he already know how to help the living from advice from the dead. When the whole build up was he was so afraid to ask the ghost what they wanted
I really really wish that M Night made a movie showing Cole as an adult, still helping the dead. Vincent couldn't handle the blessing/curse he was given. Whereas Cole could. Haley Joel Osmond is an incredible actor. I hope he reads this. Bradley in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 🦘
One of my favourite films and I have seen many. Such a clever story and so well delivered, cast, acted and edited. I think the deleted scenes could have worked. Audiences are very tuned in when the film engrossed them and they work out plots and ideas very fast. Nevertheless, the theme and message is excellent and it works so well. A ghost story that doesn't scare or horrify and send a positive message. But is Haley Joe a good actor or what ! The mom too was a perfect match. Yep, best picture was stolen from this one and a few more Oscars too. A winner in so many departments and still watchable.
@Filmingmentary. M Night Shayamalan is one of the best directors around. Genus at His Craft & Certainly a Gift when it comes to making a movie.... Thanks for posting these deleted scenes....
