@@mrrogers302 No “need“. But you may know (or not) that there a certain circles (mostly some of the corrupt US media) who still (!) claim that Serena is the GOAT. Even though she mostly had weak competition throughout her career. And that a draw with Azarenka and Muguruza (plus a Venus who was long over the hill) seems to be one of her toughest draws ever, well, that is telling.

@@carrerau7138 I was around when Steffi hit the scene. I was a huge Sabitini, Graff fan. She is still not as exciting to watch as Serena. I still watch her though, she was the original heavy hitter. As Navratilova said, the hardest person for her to play was (Not Graff, she was too easy to read) but Seles. She said she knew Steffi would stay mostly on the baseline, you knew which hand to serve to, and which one to stay away from. Seles (especially on the service return) not so much. I still like to watch them all, I actually remember a few of the matches when they were played. The only players I basically did not like we're 1) Hingis, 2) Spirlea, both were terrible sportsman. She said this is the same thing with Serena, you don't know from where to serve the ball because more than likely she will return it in spectacular motion.

@@theire483 I don’t believe one word of you having been a “huge“ Steffi fan. A Steffi fan would never ever write her name “Graff“. Not in a million years. Navratilova is so jealous, it could be funny. But actually it is sad. Steffi still lives rent-free in her head. In 1988-90 Martina was 0-4 win/loss against peak Steffi. When she still was close to her prime. In 1991-93 she was 4-7 win/loss against peak Seles. As a 34/36-old washed-up grandma. I remember the crowds gasping at some of Steffi‘s heroics on the court. My fav slam win of hers will always be french open 2013. She was so dominant and had a super hard draw. And her first French open win in 10 years. U remember match point in the final? She launched an insanely massive ace down the T and spun around and fell to her knees. It was so elegant and beautiful how she did it. That match point and the 2012 Olympics match point are my favs. Both the final of a huge tournament against maria and slams down an ace down the T on the deuce side that were like 200kph. well first of all, no one in the history of the sport has been penalized for grunting. Hindrances have been called on players for intentional distractions (ie when a player imitates the grunt of another, or when a player prematurely celebrates a point and the opponent manages to get a racket on the ball) or unintentional ones (ie yelling out of pain after the grunt has already ended). This was neither because it was one long grunt, and because it was not unreasonable given the fact that it was a hard to reach ball and a return that requires enormous core strength and stability to generate pace on. so calling a hindrance here would not have been a historical first, but also a deeply scandalous moment in one of the greatest shows of women's tennis quality ever, and an extremely pointed example of how Serena's performance on court is sometimes subject to more scrutiny and derision than other players. so even though you might have been distracted, the reality of professional tennis is that players are used to having to play others with rather extreme or what might be considered excessive grunts and that players themselves vary their grunts between shots, points, and within the match to reflect not only their mental or physical state, but also in response to different shots.
