@@b3naqua yeah man your style is great. So many videos are packed with info but lack any entertainment value. You deliver both. You've obviously spent a ton of time on your craft. Bravo.
I have a Nikon d3300 with a kit lens and a 35mm 1.8 prime. I got g85 today. People say that with an adapter I can use Nikon lenses in my G85, and that 35mm will become 70mm in micro four thirds. Will the aperture also change when I use a Nikon d3300 prime lens on g85?
Have you tried the Wide Angle Conversion lens on the 12-60mm? (I'm guessing it's a 0.75x conversion.) What is the widest you can go with that combination?
We use the Leica 15mm f1.7 and it's amazing! The wide converter is not sold in Japan (sold out everywhere here) but 15mm is still good for a medium distance shot. Also we use the Lumix 7-14mm f4 and it's nice but that f4 is a pain sometimes haha.
Nekojitablog lol nice! Is the f4 a pain for low light performance, or slow AF or something? The wide converter is so dope 😎 Btw your videos look amazing! Do you use the Leica 15mm 1.7 on most of your vidz? I'm thinking about getting the Olympus 7-14 f2.8 for the juicy wide angle and f2.8 #geargoals
Ben Aqua it's a pain for lowlight haha. Micro4/3 has so much noise... Even at ISO200 we can see noise in shadows. But sometimes we need to shoot without space in front of us and the 7mm is a life saver. We are using Lumix a couple weeks ago but all our videos are shot with a Sony a5100 and 16-50mm kit lens. Soooo good in continuous focusing and face detection, but no mic input and the battery life is a joke. So we made the change to Lumix and still learning!
Nekojitablog ah cool! Which Lumix camera did you get? I was debating getting a Sony too, but the overheating issues, crappy battery life, no IBIS or touch screen on the Sony A series led me to try the Lumix G85 and GX85, and I 💖 em! I'm coming from an old ass Canon 5D (1st edition from like 2005), so it's insane how sharp and capable the Lumix's are at a fraction of the cost of a modern full frame.
Ben Aqua we have the g85 and it's all ok except the autofocus. Not so good :( Sony a6500 has ibis and touch screen! Maybe you will like it! We almost bought it but the lack of flip screen led us to buy the g85!
Nekojitablog agreed, AF tracking on the G85 isn't the best 😭😭 the A6500 def looks juicy but I needed the flip around screen too! The GH5 looks p amazing and apparently has much better AF. But overall the G85 is an insanely good cam for the 💲💲💲
But you didn't mention that you shoot 4k video. In 1080 sensor's all surface been used. In 4k, as we know, only center part of sensor used. Let's consider that.
Hi Ben, here is the surprise I announced a long time ago... check out my video with the lens combination : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8SdtN_buiNQ.html It's the 12-32mm pancake zoom lens from Panasonic in combination with the GWC1 wide conversion lens from Panasonic. The big benefits are: in 4K no vignetting, very sharp in the center (sharper than the 14mm f2.5), Dual I.S. with lens update, fast autofocus, silent autofocus, daily run & gun setup with the zoom and a very wide angle of view negativ: in 1080p visible vignetting, poor in low light. It would be nice to hear from you! Thank you!
Thanks for telling me about your video! The exra wide viewing angle with the wide angle adapter looks nice!! Now I want to get the 12-32 kit lens to try it out 😃
Mark Edwards thanks Mark 👽 the GX80/85 is an incredible camera, and the kit (not shit) lens is rly good w that one too! Curious as to what you think about the Samyang fisheye when you get it. Thx for subbing! 👍
Kevin Julian Swann yahhhh thanks Kevin! 👽👍 does the speed booster work well for you? What lenses do you use w it? I still have my Canon 24-70 L that I used for many years w my old 5D, debating keeping it to use w a speed booster, tho concerned it'll turn my tiny G85 into a massive (rly good quality) brick 😮
EF lenses are slightly bigger then FD lenses, also the EF speed booster from Metabones is very expensive. My Speed booster is about $200 an EF $600 from Metabones, but you could get cheaper alternatives from eBay. The look I could get from my FD lenses and the Speed booster are incredible! Not only do I have a crop, left if just only 1.2X the aperture and dynamic range in Vlog L is just mind blowing.
So glad I found yout video, super helpful! But have you tried the Olympus 12-40 f2.8? It feels so similar to the Panasonic 12-35 f2.8, I don't know what to choose D:
Glad it’s helpful! Nah I haven’t tried that Oly lens but it sounds fun! If it’s around the same price as the 12-35 I’d go for it, since you get the extra 5mm of focal length!
You can, but the wide adapter doesn't work well with the 20mm for some reason - images and video look blurry. I think the adapter is only supposed to be used w the 14mm and 12-32mm.
Tod Bart thanks Tod! The GH5 has 4K in 60p (good for 4K slow mo) and more video frame rate options, dual card slots, better battery life, it's more rugged, 20 megapixel stills (G85 is 16), etc. Panasonic is sending me a GH5 soon to work with so I'll prob be doing a G85 vs GH5 video when I get it! Stay tuned & thx for the sub!! 😎
Ben Aqua what high end camera would you prefer for Vloging, slow mo, time lapse, and travel videos??? GH5, Sony a7Sll or something else? Thanks Ben... You have great energy!
awww thx Tod! If you have the budget, I would suggest the GH5 or Sony A6500. G85 is also a rly solid camera for $1K less than the GH5. Sony has better video AF but the touch screen and battery life isn't as good as Panasonic. I think the G85 is the best all around camera in the $1K range rn!
Yummy Tech thanks 👽😎 I've used higher ISO for super low light videos (in dark clubs etc) and tbh I kind of like how the visual noise adds a film grain-y texture to the video. That said, I try to keep my ISO below 1600 if I'm going for super crispy video sharpness.
Yummy Tech excellent! I'd also suggest trying out the G85 too, it has a lot of similar features as the GX85 but with a mic input and flip around screen: amzn.to/2lKJJRV
danzbeard glad it was helpful Dan! Yah that 14mm + wide angle conversion lens is so dope and super easy on the wallet. The 14mm 2.5 alone is a rly great, lightweight pancake lens that seems to be slept on these days. Awesome little lens!
What about the Panasonic 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH MEGA OIS lens? Would've loved to see that one in action (much cheaper than pro 12-35, even if not as high quality).
The 12-32 is a great little lens! I prefer the 12-35 over the 12-32 cuz the 12-35 has a wider aperture, so better low light performance and more background blur.
I’m using a 12-32 it came with the kit but I noticed it’s not all that good unless I’m not doing something correctly in the settings it’s very plain there’s no colors and not very clear on how I would like . It’s mainly gonna be used for RU-vid content creation I always try and shoot for the best quality over quantity simple
I have the panasonic g85. Been making due with the kit 12-60. I do want to get one of the 20/25mm 1.7/1.8 lens. Been loving this camera. Really has added to my videos. Thanks for the good info on other lenses. I appreciate it and probably gunna check some of them out.
Thanks Mike! Glad you've been digging my videos. Have you tried this lens?: amzn.to/2jT2SQU It's one of the more versatile lenses and still my fav lens for micro four thirds.
I love the format of this video. You show us a product and directly how it looks like ! That's what we want :) You almost convinced me for the 12-35 ;) But I will take the Panasonic Leica Summilux 15mm f1.7 or the Panasonic Leica 12mm f/1.4 The price difference is so much so I still don't know ..
Thank you Adrien! The Leica lenses you mentioned will do better in low light than the 12-35. The 12-35 is more versatile for the wide angle and zoom range. But any of those 3 lenses will be really amazing!
That 14mm lens has a couple versions... is that the first version you're showing here? And I can't find the wide angle adapter anywhere :( (Canada) How does that 14mm lens perform on its own, without the adapter?
Jeridiculous I have the 1st version of the 14mm lens. Found a cheap one on eBay. It performs really well for such a cheap lens! Decent bokeh, fast focusing, very lightweight. It's not the sharpest lens ever, but it's pretty damn good for the price. I shot this video w the 14mm + wide angle adapter: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dby8f4dx0yA.html The wide angle adapter can be hard to find, but once in a while one will pop up on amazon: amzn.to/2q850Vd
just started vlogging and so far using just the kit lens with my G85- I have several quality Full Frame Nikon Lenses which I may need to buy an adapter for; Appreciate your video, keep up the good work.
Awesome video, helpful information for noobs! Just picked up the G85 and looking for some lens, this video definitely helped give us some options!! Thanks for sharing!
I have Pana's 7-14 f4 coming in Friday, it seemed to me returning the 12-35 f2.8 and getting the 12-60 f2.8-4 kit lens on the G5 covered the 12-35 need and saved $500 because of the kit pricing for that thousand dollar lens.
That's an excellent combo - the 7-14 and 12-60. Great amount of basic ranges and that ultra wide on the 7-14 is amazing! The 12-60 kit is a super amazing lens, esp for a kit lens.
I have a G85! I use the 14mm 2.5 with a Sony VCL-ECU1 wide angle adapter. It pops right on the front of the 14mm and snaps into the inner lip of the plastic lens ridge, and releases with the switch on the Sony adapter; it's a perfect, snug fit. Plus, since it was made to correct for the Sony E-mount 16mm 2.8, which is very similar to the 14mm 2.5, it actually _improves_ the corner sharpness of my images. At f/2.5, the bokeh in the extreme corners of my footage (although small given the relatively slow aperture) is perfectly circular. That's pretty rare for a wide-angle. I've never tried the GWC1 converter, but apparently the Sony one gives an extra .5mm (making it 10.5mm?) and with the 2.4 4k crop this works out to be about 25mm, which is as wide as I want for filmmaking. (I don't vlog, but regardless the field of view is definitely in the sweet spot for self-filming.) I guess the real downside is that it makes the 14mm 2.5 a bit bulkier; It really is nice to have that true "pancake" pocket sized lens, but the wide angle adapter really makes for a better overall value. The 14mm 2.5 is a very underrated lens. Thanks for the video man, good stuff
it for sure was! i do have a quick question, was the first lens you showed wider then the kit lens? i love my kit lens but i am looking for something a little wider.. i have short arms loll
Bruno Papaleo the first lens I showed is the 12-35mm f2.8 which is the same wide angle focal length as the 12-60 kit lens. I really like the 7-14mm for super wide stuff - I got it after I made this video and loooove it for vlogging and other wide juicy stuff: amzn.to/2qcptvO Here’s an example of a vlog I shot w the 7-14: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zht_bXd9JOU.html
Is there no combination of great low light and nice wide angle? Seems like the original 12-60mm lens was the best one. It would include image stabilization built in too.
I'm getting G85 to start vlogging, but I'm pretty overwhelmed with the lens options. Right now, the primary lenses that look the best (clarity, vibrancy), at least from what I can gather, are the 12-35 F 2.8 as you recommended, and I'm also considering the 7-14mm for the wide angle. Do you think it would be overkill to get both, since they overlap between 12-14? Are there other combos you might recommend? Also, would you recommend purchasing warranty for any of these lenses and camera? Thanks in advance. I've been scoping out your other vids to help get me up to speed on the G85, and I'm really digging your vibe.
infamousmonster Glad you're digging my videos! I don't think the 7-14 and 12-35 lenses would be overkill at all, if you have the $$$. The 7-14 is excellent for vlogging cuz of the nice ultra wide focal range. When I take my camera out for vlogging, I use the 7-14 for the main selfie style shots, then change to 12-35 and 20mm f1.7 to get various close-up angles and b-roll shots with more juicy bokeh. I didn't purchase a warranty for my camera or lenses, but if you're going to take your camera mountain climbing or jumping out of a plane or other potentially precarious situations, you might want to grab the warranties!
Thanks a lot. I'm also considering the 8-18mm f2.8. It seems to be around 300-400$$ more than the 7-14. I like the superior low light f 2.8 at 8mm, but you do lose the extra mm, and I really wanna max out the width. Unlike most people, I kind of want to show people the environment. I do not really understand the obsession with shallow depth... it destroys the time capsule quality of the video. My biggest pet peeve with old movies is that 90% is basically shot indoors, so you don't get to see the classic cars and vintage streets... Hmm I have not yet come across any vlog comparisons for the two. I've seen some photography comparisons, which were not that helpful. It is clear from your vlogs you stray far away from low light conditions with the 7-14. I just don't know if 8-18 f 2.8 is gonna make that big of a difference for the extra $$$. Plus, if I get the 12-35 as well, I'd basically be paying for an 8-11mm, seeing as how the 12-35 is f 2.8 throughout. The other thing is, I know the 8-18mm is only a millimeter loss, but wouldn't you lose out even more, considering the lens is longer? So basically you'd have to hold it even further from your face, and those cameras are a lot heavier than I thought when I went to see the demos at Best Buy. I'm not sure my arm would be able to handle the pose for long... I don't know how other people do it with non-wide lenses... I guess they have lighter, point and shoot cameras? And yes, I am digging your vids very much. You have a very distinct style that's hard to describe, and I wish you would post with greater frequency.
Glad you're digging my videos! It means a lot to me to have your support!! If you have the budget, I would go for the 8-18mm for vlogging cuz that fixed f2.8 will make a huge difference for low light situations, and also lower your ISO for less grainy videos and photos. The 12-35 f2.8 is amazing as well, but I use it more for close-ups/bokeh-licious shots/general shots, not so much for vlogging. 12mm on the G85 is a bit too close to my face IMO, even with arms completely outstretched. I use 7mm when I'm vlogging cuz you don't have to outstretch your arm all the way to get your face and body to a workable distance, so your arms won't get as tired. I also agree with you that shallow depth of field is gorgeous, but not necessarily the best option for every shot, especially when vlogging. Surrounding environments can really help provide some context to your story. I do think bokeh-dripping shots can be really nice for b-roll, close-ups, or when you do want a slightly more "cinematic" look to your videos. I like the formula for vlogging of shooting most stuff w the super wide lens, then interjecting with some nice b-roll/close-ups to add some contrast and variation in your shots.
Absolutely, your videos are awesome. The 2.8 does make a noticeable difference. Prior to purchasing the 7-14 f4 and 12-35 f2.8, I didn't have any firsthand experiences, so I was going off hearsay, and the so-called experts and critics seemed to suggest that 2.8 really wasn't good for low light - better than f4, but not necessarily "good." But now that I've had the chance to play with both lenses, I'd have to say 2.8 is worth the extra $. My only reservation is that the 8-18mm doesn't go all the way to 7mm. I might be super overreacting, but I do see the difference between 7mm and 8mm - it's noticeable even when it isn't juxtaposed with an identical shot. The 8mm just looks a lot more squared, whereas the 7mm has this definitive panorama quality to it. I don't know. It might just all be in my head, haha. And yes, 12mm is too close unless you're going for that look. I don't know how other people vlog with the G85 without either the 7mm or 8mm... And yes, as you mentioned, holding the camera is very strenuous. I have not quite found a primary selfie stick that does everything. I'm alternating at the moment between a Gorillapod, monopod with feet, and tripod. The Gorillapod is the best for run-and-gun, when you're in selfie mode on the move. But I find that a lot of times, I'm just standing... so in that case, a monopod is great to just plant on the floor and rest your hand on the camera to give it the "selfie vlog" effect sans the anterior deltoid on fire. Otherwise, with Gorillapod you need a surface to lay it, or a tree to wrap it... which seem to be rarer objects than I thought. But the monopod with small feet lacks the stability of a tripod... so when I want to get some shots of me away from the camera, like 10-20 feet from the camera for B roll material, I'm afraid it's going to tip over from a gust of wind, or if the floor is uneven like at a park, then it's sometimes a struggle to find solid footing. A tripod does everything better than a monopod, but it's bulkier and impractical for run and gun selfie vlogging... gah. I'm trying to find a balance between high quality content and not making it so overly technical that I'm splitting hair and diminishing the purpose.
Yah that extra 1mm on the 7mm can def come in handy, but 8mm seems like it would do the trick for vlogging? I will say the 7mm wide in video just looks so amazing, and the cheaper price is very enticing. If you're going to be vlogging mostly during the day, I'd say def get the 7-14, cuz you won't even really need the wider aperture of the 8-18 during the day. Monopods, tripods, gorrilapods #thestruggleisreal I think you're on the right track in terms of worrying less about the technical stuff. Gear is amazing, but I think it's about what gets the job done for you without breaking your bank or arm strength lol. When I'm vlogging, I prefer simply handheld with no Gorillapod or anything, mostly cuz of the overall weight. And I don't really like carrying around a ton of equipment. One of the main reasons I got into mirrorless cameras was their smaller size and weight, so to me it defeats the purpose of having a tiny camera if I have to lug around 800 extra pieces of gear with me. So for you, I would suggest trying a day of shooting with the Gorrilapod, then another day of tripod, then another day of monopod, and see which one you're drawn to, if any. You'll figure out your style and gear needs as you work on stuff. Most importantly, get out there and create something!
Cool comparison, the 11mm with wide adapter looks an interesting option, what aperture does that have? I am using the Olympus 9mm and has worked out much better than I expected for vlogging, usually backed up with the 12-35 f2.8 for B-Roll. I have a few review videos about that on my channel if you are interested. Andy
The Panasonic 20 f1.7 II is probably the worst lens I have tried, EVER. I thought the whole MFT system must be flawed if this is considered a "solid" choice with the atrocious AF. Then I tried the Sigma 19mm which costs like 100 bucks and is 10 times better. Now I fully switched from Canon FF to MFT.
Agreed, the AF on the 20mm 1.7 is mega crappy. The Pan 25mm 1.7's AF is muuuuuch better: amzn.to/2oJDyfG Haven't tried any Sigma lenses yet for MFT - do you have any other Sigma lenses? I switched to MFT from Canon FF too!
Path Less Pedaled nice! 9-18mm seems like an ideal wide/zoom range for vlogging. Is it an awesome lens? I've also been eyeing the Pan and Oly 7-14mm lenses. Ugh #gear lol. The mic I used for this video: Rode VideoMicro - amzn.to/2mcBkrz
Ben Aqua it is a decent lens, great for vlogging. Less expensive than the 7-14 and way smaller. Also it has a filter ring so you can put NDs on it. I don't think the 7-14 does. Does that unpowered mic crank out enough level for the g85 or do you have to crank up the camera gain?
Sweet, I'll peep the 9-18! The VideoMicro does a pretty good job with audio right out of the box, esp for only $60. On the G85, I set mic level limiter to on, but leave mic level adjust to 0db (i.e. no additional gain needed), then boost the video audio a bit in post. The G85's mic preamp seems to do a decent job at boosting the unpowered mic. I did another video comparing the VideoMicro vs the G85 internal mic if yr interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HH35A9SlJyc.html
I love the 14mm + GWC1 adapter. I have the GFC1 and GMC1 converters (fisheye and macro) as well as the PZ 14-42x and they all work well on that too. Makes for a compact kit too.
Hey Ben, I’ve been watching your videos for a while and I really like your style and how you edit. I was looking for a small solution for this for a while, I can’t find the adapter for the 14mm anywhere that doesn’t cost like $400. If you don’t use yours (because you prefer the 12-35) would you mind selling it to me? I need the small wide angle because I’m a documentary filmmaker and having a camera that doesn’t look professional let’s you use it in places you otherwise wouldn’t be able. But yeah let me know! Either way I love your channel and look forward to more of your videos
Thanks Big Dan! I found my wide angle adapter on Amazon - amzn.to/2q850Vd - idk how it got so expensive! Mine was like $100 when I bought it. Maybe they stopped producing it? Idk. But I’d watch that Amazon page or eBay cuz the price goes down randomly. I’ll let you know if I end up selling mine too. I still use it regularly, it’s an amazing little adapter! That 14mm lens is so great, super underrated.
Hey Sean! Peep this vlog I shot partially with the 9mm: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kmEDYohXswY.html (9mm shots at 3:02) The Oly 9mm is amazing for the price, but yah it sucks in low light. Its aperture is f8 and cant be changed, so it’s really only good for bright light situations.
Ben Aqua it is but somewhat heavier than the pannu and has a fixed lens hood do you can't add an ND filter though there are there are third party mods to do that if you wish which I have
Cool I'm getting more and more set on getting the 12-35 as my next lens, Thanks... by the way, love how funny you are, and your home decor is on point!!!
My Marquez lol thanks! My house is full of color 🌈 the 12-35 is amazing! Amazon usually has a good price, I got mine used and works like a charm: amzn.to/2jT2SQU
While I'm trying to use the G80 on portrait(vertical) mode when I tilt the lcd toward me in front of the camera the display turns upside down, regardless of lcd being on top or bottom of camera. Is it just my camera having some defect or any setting I'm missing. Does it happen to you to ? My GH4 does not do the same.
For this video, I used aperture priority exposure mode, autofocus in face tracking mode, auto ISO, natural photo style, i.Dynamic set to standard. I used mostly natural light (basically just sat in front of big windows) to keep the ISO as low as possible & reduce noise.
tvlover81 nice! 😎 also when using aperture priority video mode, set the aperture to the lowest F stop for the lens, which lets in the most amount of light, keeps that ISO low, and blurs the background more. 👍
Ben Aqua Your tips have been so helpful! I was going to send the camera back because my video quality was poor. Thank you for your help. Keep these awesome videos coming!!
Ok so this is the collection I have so far: Panasonic 12-32mm(kit lens) with a .43x wide angle adapter Panasonic 14mm that I just won on eBay for $130 Panasonic 25mm f1.7 on sale for $150 with another .43x wide angle adapter Panasonic 45-150mm I'm thinking about returning the 25mm because I can't see it being super useful for me right now(I did get a wide angle adapter making it ?10.5mm? to see if it would give me a more useful field of view after the 4k crop) but definitely think its a cool lens for a lot of different things including videography that's more than 3 feet from my face - using it at 1080p isn't as unreasonable but the 4k crop brings it in close even when I push it back across my desk against the wall... I might of kept the 25mm but I accidentally won an auction for that 14mm and need the money - do you think I'll be disappointed? The 14mm was the original lens I wanted for this anyways, is it any good in your opinion without the lumix wide angle adapter for what I'm doing? Would I have been better off with the 20mm f1.7? I also thought a wide angle adapter on the 12-32mm might be pretty cool too, giving a bunch of different wide angle options(5-14mm) and the 4k cropping would remove most of the vignetting I'd think. Finally I was also looking at the sigma 19mm f2.8 cause it looks like an awesome lens and can be picked up for just over $100. I can see why people end up buying so many but then you end up with overlapping ranges... Like my other thought after that was get a wide angle adapter for my 45-150mm to bring it down to 19-57mm...
Sam M. Atherton damnnnn you got some juicy lenses 💦 def feel what u mean, getting a bunch of lenses then realizing there's overlap in functionality. Out of the ones you mentioned, I'd say the 20mm f1.7 is one of my favs for the juicy bokeh and small size - great for traveling and less overall bulk. The 25mm f1.7 is also a rly incredible lens for the price. I think it comes down to what you shoot mostly - like for vlogging, I'd say your best option is the 12-32 kit w the wide angle adapter, or 2nd place would be the 14mm w wide angle adapter for the f2.5. I haven't tried the Sigma you mentioned, but for $100 that sounds insane!
Ben Aqua I started using it on this lens, and got the vignetting, until I realized yesterday that maybe the wide angle was meant for 14-42mm - and is was (no vignetting) 😊 Do you know if there is one that works with 12-35mm? 😊
I am broke af because I still go to school but I own a gh4 and I would like to do some vlogs so I need a ultra wide angle lens, could you give me some fast advice on what would be the cheapest option for me.
Just subbed bro ... love the channel love the work .. questions .. scooped up a G7 recently to start with .. you think its worth working with the G7 or should i just trade up to a G85, aside form the obvious IBIS on the G85 ?
Thx for subbing! If you have the extra ~300 bux, I would def trade in the G7 for the G85. I had the G7 for about a month, then realized how much I wanted that IBIS and took the plunge -- so f'n happy I did! It works great for video, and for still photos it helps reduce the amount of blurry shots by a ton. I'm able to do like 1 sec still exposures handheld in low light (if I'm careful and hold my breath lol) w the G85's IBIS, insane. It also has weather/dust sealing and an improved shutter mechanism w/ less shutter shock. Peep more reviews of the G85 on Amazon, most ppl who got it instead of the G7 are super pleased: amzn.to/2pBAnqF
Ben, the converter cost around $250 new. I can't find one on ebay! I need that converter, I have super short arms. lol. Thanks for sharing. very helpful information.
No prob! I found mine on Amazon for I think around $130. For some reason that adapter is so rare & more expensive these days, idk why. This is the Amazon link I got mine from: amzn.to/2q850Vd
I am trying to find that converter. For some reason the only thing relative I found available online was the DMW-LW55. Do you know if it has the same sharpness and aperture? Also if at any time you moved on from that aux lens feel free to let me know I am willing to buy it from you.
Ben Aqua It is wild right! Well hey like I said if you are ever interested I’ll email you my info. I am selling some tech too that you might find interesting 👍
shapes2000 thx! 👽 yup, what's up w the focus on the 20mm?? None of my other Pan lenses have that type of slow, sludgy focus. It's an amazing lens otherwise tho. 👍
Great info once again. A lot of people always talk about how image quality goes down in low light with some of these options especially in the m4/3 category. Would be cool to see how they perform with some samples comparing each of them.
I also have the 20mm f1.7 ASPH II lense. I love the f1.7 feature of the lens, but because it is a 20mm lens, it is just feels so wrong for my shooting style when using my GX85. Don't get me wrong, I can still get great shots for this lens, but if this were a 14mm f1.7 lens combined with the existing pancake form factor, I'd be much happier with it.
Rick Sarvas I agree, wider than 20mm with f1.7 at that low price would be incredible. Closest options would be the Pan Leica 15mm f1.7: amzn.to/2ySdjwW and the Pan 14mm F2.5 lens - amzn.to/2qiYbCE
Both of the examples cited above are outstanding lenses, but neither have the pancake format 20mm f1.7. I feel as though Panasonic is "missing" an opportunity for a 8mm - 14mm low-f stop pancake prime for street shooting.
Jones Home Collective thx! The 12-35 is an excellent lens! I use it all the time. You can get some really #bokehlicious shots with it too. Amazon usually has good prices on it: amzn.to/2jT2SQU
Years ago a guy called Ed Dale recommended the 20mm pancake. Still a great lens but you are right, things have moved on and there are much better alternatives now for vlogging.
Hey... why not use a Gimble or a "Selfie Stick" and then use the 20mm for both street and Vlog... that's what I use... I have found that the autofocus works just fine so long as you set your camera to face detect and keep a small distance between you and the camera... Also... as you described the sharpness and natural contours is superior to ALL the lens you described and due to the f1.7 you get creamy bokeh and awesome low light capability... For my style of photography - It is the only lens I carry on me when I go out on the street or in low light...
Heya! Love the vid. My gopro hero 5 broke and using my g80 on a trip to china next week. How does the oly 9mm compare to gopro interms of video and sound quality? And the actual difference in frame size? Appreciate your help
Sound quality on the G80 internal mic is so-so. It's useable, but kind of loud and noisy. I can't really say much about specific differences to the Hero 5 cuz I don't have that one. But you should be rly set w that Oly lens and the G80. If you want better audio, you might consider getting the Rode VideoMicro, it's super compact, only $60, and will dramatically improve your audio quality. I use it on a lot of my studio-shot videos and vlogs. Peep it: amzn.to/2mcBkrz
Thanks for the reply. Sorry I meant gx80 but don't think that make much difference. Last thing I hope you can help with...i can't find a good mount like a handle grip/stick to walk and vlog with. The only thing that pops up is the zhiyun crane. Is there something you know which could work well with the inbuilt iso in the gx80?
Thx! Agreed - that 20mm is amazing!! Super compact and great bokeh. Just wish its autofocus wasn't so wonky/slow/loud tho. In my experience, it works best using manual focus or AE/AF lock. #juicylens vibes
Great channel you helped me decide to get both the g85 and gx85. I also purchased the 14mm with the wide angle conversion lens but i seem to be having and issue focusing to infinity. has anyone else came across this issue?
Great video man! Just wanna ask, what are your thoughts on the 12-32mm lens? As I'm trying to decide between that and the 14mm 2.5, cause the 12-32 has OIS and a bit wider. And the wide angle combo looks nice! But availability here in the Philippines is a bit scarce hahaha :))
Luis Logarta thanks Luis! The 12-32 is a bit wider and has a bit of zoom. If you don’t think you’ll zoom much and want a slightly wide shot, I’d go for the 14mm cuz it has the f2.5 for better bokeh and low light performance. They’re both great lenses, so either one will work nicely!
Luis Logarta absolutely! I shot the behind the scenes parts of this video with the 14mm + wide angle adapter: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XInY452f_KI.html
The wide angle converter really makes a difference, hope I can find one here in the PH 😅. And btw, that 50mm 1.2 your friend used is soooo bokehlicious 😮..hahaha!
The converter does make a difference indeed! It takes the 14mm down to 11mm. You can also use it on the 14-42mm lens! You can find them on Amazon here and there: amzn.to/2F15dAy
