Hey dudes! I didn't mention this until half way through the video BUT I am not including any Stephen King books in this list. I read so much King last year that if I included him the list would be 80% him - haha. Thanks for watching and whatever!

Lonesome Dove is my favorite book of all time, I first read it when it won the Pulitzer, and I read it once a year since. Adventure, heartache, humor, it has everything including one of the best characters ever written, Gus.

I looooved Piranesi! It's one of those frustrating things where it's so good because it's so unlike every other book, but after you read it you immediately want to read more books just like it. The only other book that felt kind of similar to me was The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. It's completely different from Piranesi in plot, genre, etc - but it has a similar mystical feel and the setting is a character of its own.

Piranesi is outstanding, the first few pages threw me through a loop trying to understand what was going on and figuring out the setting but I was completely sucked into the world shortly after, loved t&t&t and A Little Life is currently sitting on my shelf waiting to be read, now I want to read it even more.

I read Looking for Alaska when I was in middle school and it’s one of the main reasons I fell in love with books. I was a bad kid and the only teacher that ever like me gifted me a copy with a nice little note inside. I’m in my 30’s now I still have the book somewhere.

Piranesi was a favorite for me in 2022. Definitely a vibe. Her book Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is also wonderful. Ah, Lonesome Dove is one of my favorite books. I re-read it this year and was amazed (again) at how good it is.

Just recently read the yellow wall paper and loved it! Dark matter wasn’t for me looking back. But I actually rated it 4.25. I confuse myself sometimes. lol. I remember it felt like a movie. But it wasn’t long after I told someone about it and was like “I didn’t like it”. lol shrug Piranesi was so good as well. It took me forever to start it cause everyone kept talking about how confusing it is. Enjoyed so much more than her other book! Lonesome dove is popping up all over the place lately! I kinda wanna know what you think of “I’m thinking of ending things” the audio, specifically.

Thats funny haha. I've done that a few times as well where I rate a book really highly right after reading it and then as the months go by I think back and sometimes almost forget what the book was even about.

Oh also ... I would recommend The Case Against Satan by Ray Russell. It was published like 9 or 10 years before William Peter Blatty's book and is considered to be like the original Exorcist. Since you like The Exorcist, I'm curious what you would think about The Cast Against Satan.

yes, the way you explained killers of the flower moon is 1000% the way I was railroaded by The Wager this last weekend! Im afraid I now have unrealistic expectations for nonfiction now. (the wager was my first historical nonfiction that Ive actually completed)

Is that an Orange Crush amplifier in the background? I have that same size one myself! Also it made me so happy that the Exorcist is one of your comfort movies. Glad you also enjoyed the book immensely as well. Perfect book, perfect movie. Also since you really liked the Wager for the adventure and survival, if you haven't read it yet I highly recommend The Terror by Dan Simmons. If you haven't looked into it before, Simmons researches the hell out of a real life expedition in the 1840's that was conducted to find the northwest passage but the ships became icebound and all the crew either died or were never found, then Simmons wrote the novel to add in horror and supernatural stuff and give a fictionalized imagining of what happened. It is a compelling and beautifully written novel.

Hey, I've been thinking, and I can't remember if it is this video where you ask for romance recommendations, but I want to recommend it to you regardless. To Paradise was good, but to me, her first novel ‘The People in the Trees’ (her first novel) is much better. I would recommend this much more, especially if you weren’t deterred by the feelings you got while reading A Little Life. I read TPITT before A Little Life and it completely sold me on her as a writer. It’s also a much more approachable length 😄
