11/22/63 honestly became my favorite book as soon as I read it. Finished it last november. I still think about it weekly and cannot give it enough praise. I thought it was so profound and heartwrenching. Definitely a deserved number 1.
Love Stephen King so much. You've convinced me to read 11/22/63 honestly. This list was perfect. You definitely don't talk too much! Came from Tiktok so it's nice hearing you go more into depth about the books!
I own every Stephen king novel myself and admire his creativity and world building skills. And 11/22/63 is my favorite king book as well. In fact it’s still my favorite book, period. Just love the incredibly thick and authentic world amidst a thoroughly interesting plot. You feel sucked into this world of past decades and almost living it yourself, just an absolute master piece. Beyond the shadow of any doubt one of the best books ever written. Gosh I love this book!!!!
The Stand was the first Stephen King I’ve read - so good - one of those books where you are exhausted (in a good way) by the end. Thanks for reminding me that I want to read Fairytale.
I'm very glad you started a channel for longer form videos! Enjoying all your content so much. I've only read a couple King books, but I thoroughly enjoyed both. I read Misery and Dolores Clairborne! They both were fantastic. You're definitely making me want to pick up more in 2024.
Love 11/22/63. Only Stephen king book I have fully read. Gonna start get back into reading. Just bought 4 king books tonight and will start reading the shining tomorrow. Can’t wait to dive into the wonderful world of Stephen king.
Finally! Somebody who has the long walk in there top ten!! This is my favorite Stephen King book and the second book I read, I’m so excited to see this book get appreciated!
Yes yes. Also the first time I've seen anyone put the long walk in their top 10. It is most definitely one of my favorite King books and overall favorite books. I've read it twice now. And I'm sure a third read will be in my future at some point
Picking my first book by Stephen King I went out on a limb and picked 11/22/63 solely because of the brief premise I read online (I’m also fascinated with the history of the Kennedys) Admittedly I’m just 100 pages in up until this point and I’ve been enjoying it from the jump. Seeing this list and your summary of the book, it’s gotten me infinitely more excited!
You actually inspired me to read The Stand!! I read it (with the help of an audiobook) in a week. I’m still new in the world of Stephen King, but I wanted that challenge, and it was so worth it
Hearing all the praise about 11/22/63, I'm sold. It's definitely going on my reading list for 2024. I haven't read anything by Stephen King yet, but I'd like to give his work a go. Misery is one of my favourite films so would love to read that too. Loving your content!
@@tahoe-hx5sq i kind of agree, the middle part of the book once he starts to spy on oswald does definitely drag for me. It was still definitely a decent read but once it got past that section of the book it really picked up for me and once again i couldnt put it down.
Love your description of Pet Sematary, I felt the same way once I finished the book It. Literally sat there for a good 5 minutes and had that same exact thought, “i think this is my favorite author and my life has slightly changed”
I read 11 2263 mostly because I kept seeing you talk about it on TikTok. And wow, I finished it in about five days. Every spare moment I had was spent reading it. I’m a big baby so I spent the last 45 minutes reading and crying. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to read it again. King is really just one of the greatest.
I loved this, thank you for sharing! I collect SK booked and I'm currently 70 pages in to pet cemetery and I already know I'm going to love it. Misery is my top so far but I've only read about 4 in total... a fun journey ahead for me
It is my favourite Stephen king book so far. I haven't read enough of them to make a top 10 list, but It made me want to read more of his books and brought me here. I have misery as my next book to read. I did read 11/22/63 and I thought it was good, but It was better, in my opinion. I've added a lot more to my wishlist after watching this video. Can't wait to get them 😊
When you said Hamilton at the beginning intro I was like wait WHAT. A fellow Canadian. Better yet Ontario-in?! Hello friend! Love your channel. Happy reading 😊
I agree totally with you on the first spot and its ending being out of the world. The line someone you knew in another life honey breaks me everytime.King at his best for sure
It is,, indeed,, a very good novel: my personal theory is that the dude has written so many truly great novels, published so many great books...that there could feasibly BE any number of books in a top 10 and be correct.
im just dipping my toes into stephen king, just bought the shining, dr sleep, salems lot and 11/22/63 to start me off. I've seen every single one of his adapted movies too many times to count so i never thought i should read the books but im glad to hear you say the shining was better than the movie, im excited!
The Long Walk has been one that has stuck with me since I read it as a kid. I just re read it and was thinking I'd love to see it as a movie. As of last month they are finally moving forward with a film adaptation. Can't wait!
I'm turning 61 this month, and have been reading King since high school ( my first was THE SHINING purely because of the Kubrick tie-in cover, and that one clobbered me so hard, I went back and read CARRIE, and carried on. ), and bought every single one until IT...and at that point, I was sort of burned out on Stephen, so let the next few slip by. Tried to get back into him with that one about the town covered by a dome, and couldn't do it. Somehow, I was Kinged out. I can't put them in order, since I loved them all, but the one I read until it fell apart was DANSE MACABRE, since it was almost literally like sitting down with Stevie and geeking about the things I love, and who wouldn't want to do that??? I truly hope he does a second volume, but as time passes, the chances of that have become almost too small to see.
My top 8 Stephen King books are as follows. 1. It 2. The Shining 3. Night Shift 3. Pet Semetery 4. Needful Things ( hilarious imo) 5. Skeleton Crew 6. Four Past Midnight 7. Salem's Lot 8. Cujo My bottom 8 are 1. The Talisman 2. Carrie 3. Duma Key 4. Rose Matter 5. Misery 6. Holly 7. Fairy Tale 8. Eye of the Dragon I don't hate any of them. They're just my least favorite. I haven't read the others yet but I'm working on it. Especially The Stand.
I just got back into reading this year and have read about 40 books! I have read 2 Stephen King Books, 11/22/63 and The Mist. 11/22/63 is by far my favorite book I've read this year, I plan on rereading it eventually. The Stand is on my list to start in early 2024. I have audiobooked The Green Mile and Misery and both were absolutely fantastic. 11/22/63 is by far my all time favorite book at this point, and I don't think it will be beat out any time soon.
The only Stephen King book that I've read was Fairy Tale and I really enjoyed it. I really want to get into King books, but I'm not the type that enjoys horror flicks or stories (because I'm a wimp) so I'm really hesitant. I feel like I'm missing out on some really great books, esp Pet Sematary. 11/22/63 doesn't sound scary though, so I'm definitely super interested. Thanks for all the recs! I just discovered your channel from your top 10 books video and I'm loving your style! Can't wait to binge more hehe
I think I’ve loved Stephen King’s works for the majority of my life, I grew up watching his movie adaptations and they really made me fall in love with the horror genre. Despite that, before last year I’d only read maybe three or four of his books, but I decided to set myself a challenge to read all of King’s books in 2023 and wow, talk about a challenge! I think I have a pretty solid top 10, I would be pressed to change any of them. 1. Pet Sematary 2. The Shining 3. The Stand 4. IT 5. Misery 6. Under The Dome 7. 11/22/63 8. Cujo 9. Needful Things 10. Christine I would highly recommend reading some of his smaller books, like The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon or Gwendy’s Button Box or Joyland!
I feel like I have a lot of recency bias with Stephen King books. I finished The Stand last month and was blown away but thinking back 11/22/63 left me with a similar feeling. If I remember correctly there is a brief crossover reference in 11/22/63 that describes Randall Flagg. I only realized this after reading The Stand. Having read Eyes of The Dragon before The Stand, you may have an interesting insight on some characters. I'd love to know your thoughts on The Stand once you're finished. I read Eyes of the Dragon after The Stand and felt that may have been the wrong order. Anyway...I'm autistic, thank you for the calm video.
I have collected a few recommended lists for the reading order of the Dark Tower series. Your comment got me checking. You are correct. Several had the Stand before Eyes of the Dragon. AND several stated to read EOTD first. Guess it evens out. Having your helpful comment . . . think I'll read EOTD first. (When I get to that section of order recs). Thanks for the good catch!
Can you make a video about how reading has changed your life. I go in and out of reading, especially after life events like moving or getting a new job where I'm thrown out of a routine. I've just gotten back in and in a way you were a catalyst to that so I thank you. Personally, when I'm reading I feel my ability to focus improve, mental clarity, and its also just a lot of fun to have a book to escape to.
1-the stand 2-it 3-the long walk 4-cujo 5-Christine 6-under the dome 7-whatever the date was jfk was killed 8-pet semetary 9-the institute 10- billy summers
Favorites in Order: 1) 11/22/63 (also favorite book of all time) 2) The Dead Zone 3) Pet Semetary 4) The Shining 5) Dolores Claiborne 6) IT 7) The Talisman 8) Revival 9) Christine 10) The Dark Half
Halloo and Greetings from Germany.. I read about 50 King Books so far and today my Top Ten is this: 1 Dolores Claiborne 2 The Shining 3 Misery 4 IT 5 Different Seasons 6 Night Shift 7 Needful Things 8 Salems Lot 9 Gerald’s Game 10 Bag of Bones Have a nice day and wonderful Christmas Days! 🙋🏻♀️😊🎅🏼🎄🍀
I have ~50 Stephen king books, and I'm a big fan of his short stories (Langoliers and the Jaunt are absolutely favourites), as well as his longer ones (IT and the Stand). Definitely recommend Needful Things if you love Salem's Lot!
The only Stephen King book I ever attempted to read, until recently was Salem's Lot. I did so, on the back of watching the T.V. Mini Series, which I _still_ have on DVD. But, I couldn't get on with the book at all. However recently, another BookTuber recommended The Stand and I loved it and, on your recommendation, I've just finished 11/22/63 and loved it even _more!_ It literally had me "welling up," by the end. I've just started watching the T.V. adaptation with James Franco, on Prime Video. I did remember starting to watch it, a few years back, but can't remember why I abandoned it! After finishing another book from Armisted Maupin's Tales of The City (I need some light relief) I'm going to tackle Swan Song, also a recommendation, before giving Salem's Lot another go! 😉😉
Great list! I've been reading him since the early '80s, and the great thing about King is that his body of work is so huge, we can come at it from a lot of different angles. Here are my top 10: 1. The Stand (which I re-read every 5 years or so) 2. Different Seasons (4 novellas, inc Shawshank and The Body) 3. It (had a hard time washing my hands for a while!) 4. The Green Mile 5. Fairy Tale 6. Christine (my first King--the "my life just changed" book) 7. The Dark Tower 8. The Eyes of the Dragon 9. The Shining 10. Carrie
Really glad to see some Doctor Sleep love, fantastic sequel I LOVED it. The film is absolutely phenomenal as well, I highly recommend. The Stand is my favourite King book of all time, but 11/22/63 isn't far off. Nothing hits like King.
I've only read 3 and my favorite so far is Hearts in Atlantis. I love the characters and music. Insomnia and then Duma Key. They've all grabbed my heart. I'm on Gunslinger now.
I haven't read *too* many SK books but my top 5 have to be Christine, Misery, The Shining, Pet Sematary, and IT. Doctor Sleep is also a close 6 or 7 I reckon. Just bought The Eyes of the Dragon whilst watching bc now I'm excited lol
Good list. My personal favourite Stephen King books are Pet Sematary, Gerald's Game, & Salem's Lot. I have fond memories of watching the 70s miniseries adaptation of Salem's Lot with my family when I was a kid, & then reading Gerald's Game as a teenager, & being really creeped out by it, so those two books hold a special place in my heart.
Pretty sure King once said Annie is a manifestation of his coke addiction-all that combined with the fact that he’d sort of been typecasted as a “horror author,” and you get Misery!
With the way Stephen King has been typecast it has actually led me to question what horror really is. Yes he does have horrific things in some of his books but to me that isn’t enough to call them horror. I may not have read enough of his books and I may be being unintentionally pedantic but thems my thoughts.
I've only read a handful of King's novels, but many are on my TBR shelf (It, The Stand, The Shining). My top three are: 1) 11.22.63 (One of most enjoyable reads of the last 10 years for me. I felt like a kid again, reading an exciting adventure under the covers) 2) The Green Mile (read it when it came out in serialized form and was like watching a TV show you could discuss with friends-such fun) 3) Misery (thank god they changed THAT scene in the movie!) Least favorite: Duma Key (would make a great 200 page novel) and Cujo.
Hi Nick, i have read almost all of Stephen King's books. But i read them all as they were published (I'm old). I remember running to the book store everyime a new one came out. I would finish them quickly and then the waiting for a new one would kill me. I have been a lifelong reader but Stephen King is my favorite aurhor. I hope you comtinue to read his work, I cant wait to hear your thoughts on The Stand. The Stand is #1 on my best books of a lifetime list. 1 The Stand 2 The Shinning 3. Salem's Lot 4. Carrie 5. Fairy Tale Enjoy! Donna
This was hard to do, but here’s my Top 5 Stephen King books, OUT OF THE ONES I’VE READ (and there are a ton more I need to read, most bought already, some on my list to buy…) So it doesn’t really mean much since I haven’t read some “big ones” like IT and the others, but… Here it is: 1. 11/22/63 2. The Institute 3. Under the Dome 4. The Eyes of the Dragon 5. The Shining
I haven’t read that many King books but I would have to say that I loved Cujo, being the first book of his I read. To use your analogy, The Shining felt like a slap and Doctor Sleep felt like the knock out punch. Yes I did read them back to back for the first time. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was a good short read and I liked Four Seasons, being a fan of Stand By Me. I haven’t completed any of his chunkier tomes but I have started; Under the Dome, The Stand and It. My horror leanings go more to Dean Koontz but I do enjoy both authors.
Very nice list! My top 5 are 1. 11/22/63 2. The Green Mile 3. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank redemption (i know its a novella but still counts for me) 4. The Drawing of the Three 5. Pet Sematary Ive only read about 10 of his works so far though.
Hey Nick! Thanks for your videos. Loving them all! I’ll leave my top ten King’s book: 10. Duma Key 9. Salem’s Lot 8. From a Buick 8 7. Full Dark, No Stars 6. It 5. The Green Mile 4. On Writing 3. Pet Sematary 2. 22/11/1963 1. The Dead Zone
My top 10 Stephen King books 1) Different Seasons 2) Skeleton Crew 3) Night Shift 4) The Stand 5) 11/22/63 6) The Dome 7) The Shining 8) The Bachman Books 9) Desperation 10) Salems Lot *King's best work are his short stories, a talent few writers possess. Of special note, The Jaunt, The Raft, The Long Walk and his very best story, the novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.
I'm really surprised to see the long walk here, it's actually the first Stephen King book I read and I liked a lot except maybe for the ending, Iove your content keep it going
I have listened to most of King's works. My maybe top 5 not in any order list is: Different Seasons, Wizards and Glass, Drawing of the Three, Duma Key and On Writing.
I’m not super well-read when it comes to Stephen King, but I’ve read the novellas; Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, The Body, and Apt Pupil (all of which were adapted to film), and enjoyed each of them. After watching your video, 11/22/63 might have to go on the list! I’m digging your videos - can’t wait for the next one!
The only Stephen King book I’ve read is Joyland and it gave me the same feeling you had after reading Pet Cemetery. So this year my goal is to read more Stephen King books. This list is great!
Thanks for always cranking out content. Here’s my rankings on my King journey thus far: 1 - It 2 - 11/22/63 3 - The Stand 4 - The Shining 5 - ‘Salem’s Lot 6 - Firestarter 7 - The Dead Zone 8 - Night Shift 9 - Skeleton Crew 10 - On Writing 11 - Christine 12 - Dolores Claiborne 13 - The Talisman 14 - The Eyes of the Dragon 15 - The Colorado Kid
Surprised to learn that you didn't grow up in the local library stacks! Absolutely love Tommyknockers and Needful Things;so enjoy your enthusiasm and content!
Great list and video! 11/22/63 is, without a doubt, my favorite Stephen King book as well. My top ten would be: 1. 11/22/63 2. Wizard & Glass (can I put the Dark Tower series as a whole?) 3. Dolores Claiborne 4. The Long Walk 5. It 6. Under The Dome 7. Doctor Sleep 8. Bag Of Bones 9. The Institute 10. Different Seasons I should note that I still haven’t read The Stand, Misery, or Pet Semetary. I know it’s sacrilege to not include The Shining, but I think having read it after reading so many other books of his and seeing the movie so many times affected my opinion. Take care and great videos!!
1) The Stand 2) The Shining - Pet Sematary 4) Misery 5) The Dead Zone I’ve made it through about 40 or so of his books but I’ve yet to read 11/22/63, that’s one I’ll be trying to get to early in January though. Salems lot is probably in my top 7-8. I’m really not sure about It. Obviously it’s good but I’m not sure if I just felt meh about the new movies that came out over the past 5 years that were very hyped up or if it was because Bill seriously annoyed me as a character in the book. I’d guess it’s around 10th spot or so for me. The only Stephen king book that I have had little to no joy from was the tommyknockers, it’s just hot garbage in my opinion. Everything else I would be very ok having a reread with and I can’t say that about a lot of authors I’ve read numerous books from.
Interesting list and a good one. If you haven't read Duma Key I highly recommend it. Also, I consider Wizard and Glass my personal favorite Fantasy novel and a top 5 King novel. You're in for a treat.
I agree with 11/22/63. That was a great book. I read it when it first came out. I started the expanded reading list for the dark tower. I started with Salem’s Lot and read a few of the short stories related to that universe. I’ll end the list with 11/22/63.
I’ve only completed two Stephen King novels so far -relatively new to the fandom- and I still cannot choose which I like mode. Salem’s Lot - My first and it terrified me The Shining - Made me cry a lot at the end
Glad I clicked on your video, I like your insights and personality. I'm with you, I don't get why people hate on Stephen King's endings. Only a few books/stories had endings I thought could be stronger, usually I really appreciate his endings. The Long Walk was the first novel of his I ever read. I was either in 8th or 9th grade and I loved it so much. Speaking of great endings, that one stuck in my mind for weeks after finishing the last page. I want to reread it soon, but the crazy thing is even though it's been over ten years I still remember just about everything from the book. "It" is fantastic. I can't believe when I first finished it I saw it as just good. I remember thinking that it could have been shorter, some scenes didn't need to be as long or even in there, and all this other stuff. Yet two or so years later (whenever it was I read it) I still remember so many of the scenes and how vivid King's prose was and still think about the themes. So for me, "It" is a case where I grew to appreciate it so much more the more time I contemplated it. It went from like a solid 3 out of 5 to like a 4.5 out of 5 for me. The Talisman didn't really hit for me. I thought it was okay. Maybe I'll like it better on a reread. I did listen to it on audiobook too and the narrator had some odd choices for how he executed it here and there so when I reread it I'll do it properly with the actual physical book. The 1989 Pet Sematary movie in my opinion goes back and forth from genuinely great to horribly cheesy. Especially some of the FX (the face in the sky tho lmfao). And the actor who played Louis Creed seemed like he wasn't even awake the entire production lol. Still an entertaining movie, and the screenplay is great (King himself wrote it of course). Would love to hear your thoughts when you watch it. You mentioned you studied film in school so I'd love to hear your takes on the movie. I also hope you love The Stand! Would love to hear your thoughts on it when you're done. It's such a phenomenal novel.
I’m currently reading the Shining after many years since I read a King. I’m in my 40’s and 100% read Misery and I think another couple in my teens. I’m wanting to read Dr. Sleep next. And from this and a couple of other vids , the Stand.
I haven't read to many Stephen King books yet, especially his longer ones. Trying to work up to them. 😊 However, out of the ones I have read, my fav list would be: 1. The Green Mile 2. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption Novella 3. The Shining 4. The Outsider
1. Cell 2. From a Buick 8 3. Cycle of the Werewolf 4. Roadwork 5. The Regulators 6. Song of Susannah 7. Elevation 8. Colorado Kid 9. Rose Madder 10 Dreamcatcher
My Top 5 King books are:- IT. Christine. Salems Lot. The Shining. Night Shift (in order from 1-5) Two of his recent books would be on Top 10 The Institute & Billy Summers as would The Wastelands, Mr Mercedes and The Stand. Thanks for your current Top 10 😎👍🏻
Thank you. We are indeed friends. I love this list. The Stand changed the way I feel about books and reading. Found your channel today, keep going. Feel at home.
Mine are IT 11/22/63 Green mile The long Walk I have only read these four and two other king books. But I would consider them in my top books not just a king but of all time. Can’t wait to read more of his stuff.
Pet Sematary is my favorite Stephen King book of all time because it was my first book I ever had. I actually saw the movie before I read the book, I plan on getting more books by him.
This video is #1 in my top ten "Top 10 favorite Stephen King books" videos 🙃 If you plan to watch the Pet Sem movie, I can't recommend enough the original from the 80's, it's a classic. (The 2017 remake isn't bad, even though it deviated a lot from the book)
I've been reading King for the last 2-3 years as well, and you and I have the same top 3. 11/22/63 was amazing and stayed with me so long after. And on IT, it's so much more than a story about a scary clown. It's all about characters and become a part of the Loser's Club with them
