From the little bit of research that I have done, 30 years is consider “vintage”. I recently purchased a 1999 CIJ Fender Jaguar thinking it was vintage. Looks like I’m waiting 5 more years.
You have the best smile ever young lady! It warms the heart to see musicians who truly find joy in their craft! I think you really have an enjoyable channel and thanks for sharing your mods and tips. I'm going to practice smiling much more often and you've inspired that!
I'm literally staring at a Jaguar neck on eBay for a project guitar (a DIY Jag-Stang build!). THIS IS NOT HELPING. Mine is a 2022 neck though. I REALLY like the one on my Jaguar so..... oh no, it's even payday today. Edit: Dangit I ended up buying an ENTIRE second Jaguar. The only parts neck on eBay was from the US and cost 62% (no, really. That's not a Jaguar joke) of the new guitar by the time it was imported. I held off for three weeks before you posted this. Then there was the Bass VI... You are a terrible influence on me!
Thin neck you like buy a Mosrite. I have two vintage and had two Japanese Mosrites. I sold the Japanese because they are awesome BUT my vintage were better. You will like Mosrite necks. Also, I have a Fender AVRI 62 Jazzmaster RI I bought new in 2003. The description of the neck you like fits my JM. I swapped the original pickups with Novak JM based on his 1963. Didn't want any variation just a classic JM pickup.
You're such a brave inspiring person Nicebelle, you give us the knowledge and encouragement to try mods and repairs on our guitars that some of us would never otherwise dream of attempting. Great playing skills too, thank you! 👍❤️
i wish there was a jaguar with the full 25.5 inch scale length. i like the electronics and aesthetics of jaguars more than jazzmasters but i like longer scale lengths.
As an OCD nerd getting into Jags and figuring out neck shapes, do you know the thickness of the neck you had stock and the new MIJ you just bought? (Also DAMN I love that blue on that jag 🥵)
Being a machinist I would have loved the move the screw holes properly in the new neck so It would locate precisely in the pocket. Maybe some day you will have this done by someone you can trust.
Great work! Ariel turned out amazing! Thank you for showing the fretwork process - it’s definitely one of my personal weak points but this made it seem way more doable. Also, the song at the end is so good 🤘🤘
these videos, and specifically the demos at the end, are always super inspiring. they make me want to go try and play something way above my skill level just to see if i can. usually that fails but it’s the thought that counts
You are vintage. I am ancient. Excellent. I feel more valuable than ever. A 1990s MIJ Stratocaster is the guitar I am a little sad I sold, but it wasn't the guitar for me then. Probably not today either.
That Island for the neck shim hahaha sad to see it go, but you were right that it's the changes an instrument goes through that tells the story. The ODR seems to be working out really well for you :) Trying hard to not think about the day I turn *gasp* "v i n t a g e"
Great video, glad the neck wound up fitting after all. Wondering if you had any issues with the nut on the old neck? By the way if you want to see some heads exploding, go to TGP and claim a 90's guitar is 'vintage' :)
When I first got her, she was set up for 10s so I did have to file the nut slots to fit my preferred 11-52 set. After that, and a fair amount of Burt's Bees, I had no issues with the nut!
Hi Nisebelle, I have 2 statements to share and 2 questions 😊 1) I absolutely love your energy, playing and jagility 😊 2) that song at the end was just beautiful! 1) pretty please, for my pure inspiration and current fiddling aroung my jag - would you mind to share your pickups height and which ones do you have in your jag? 2) do you have your music available somewhere to listen? Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much! It was a fun one to write! 1) My pickup heights are about 6.5 mm on the neck, and about 5 mm on the bridge. 2) You can check out the tracks at nisebelle.bandcamp.com/music I should have the new demo from this video up this week!
@nisebelle many thanks for both info! Just a follow up question to pickups same height on th bass/trebble side? Measured pickup - string free or pressed on the last fret? Thanks again!!
If you consider yourself vintage I have to consider myself prehistoric. Apart from that, I love your way of attempting projects with a higher difficulty level. You can't improve yourself when you stay on your level. 👍
Really well done! I'm glad to see you didn't have too much hassle with the neck pocket. Always an entertaining, informative and satisfying experience to watch your videos! Keep up the good work!
Absolutely! A while back when I was first learning how to play guitar I had a lot of issues muting my open strings especially when tapping. I found out about the fretwraps that a lot of metal musicians were using at the time and they sounded like the perfect solution, but being a broke college student I didn’t really have much money to spare so I just grabbed the hair tie I was wearing and put it on right behind the nut. Now a days I don’t find myself sliding the hair tie into the mute position that often, but even so I still put one on every guitar since it just doesn’t really feel like mine without it!
You are so right about birth year buys. I rebuilt (correctly, over a long time) 2 1958 guitars from parts, and there is something about those. One started as a neck in search of a body, the other a body in search of a neck. Both are complete and sweet now, dings and dents included.
Amp is an Ibanez TSA15h with the TS and boost on and all controls at noon plugged into an Epiphone Valve jr cab micced with an sm57. The beginning part was rhythm circuit -> Xotic SP compress -> hungry robot stargazer -> amp Second part was bridge pickup + strangle switch + mute -> amp Main rhythm tone was bridge pickup -> Nobels ODR-1 -> amp And lead tone was bridge pickup -> modded Devi Ever Hyperion -> Digitech Whammy -> amp
Haven’t decided yet! But I’m realizing that with all the upgrades she’s had, I’m only about a body and a few components short of a whole second Jaguar!
what a happy accident stumbling upon your channel, this was so enjoyable and came at a perfect time where im modding my guitar. 10/10 personality/editing/pacing/playing/music!!
Wow! This must give you such a lot of satisfaction and fulfilment and doing all these mods modifications to your guitars. Wonderful! And you're becoming your own guitar tech technician guitar restorer wow, this is one huge achievement. Really excellent. Well done! Congratulations and celebrations. I can just see all your james other musicians will be overwhelmed via your achievements. Wonderful! Keep up the nice work and have fun. That's what it's all about check out more videos! Wow!🎸🤗🙏✨
Nisebelle, love your videos. I'm thinking you could fill the old holes in your new MIJ neck with dowels and glue and re-drill them. That way you don't have to compensate so much.
Love the videos where you talk through it. You make it look quick and easy, where I know I'd totally hack it up if I tried, but it's still interesting and encouraging. It inspires me to get a kit guitar or one that needs work, to see if I can do it as well.
Hey Nisebelle, i'm new to your channel. Algorithm led me to one of your vids. Just want to say you're a breath of fresh air! Your vids are not just very entertaining to watch but also informative with good vibes and all smiles. You're so cool and very talented! Keep it up!
Your videos are therapeutic af. Also, that demo song is absolutely insane! Is that a custom tuning that you use for this song? And when will this song be available on bandcamp? Cheers!
We are the same age.... or well after watching this I suppose it's the same vintage.. Anyhow I really enjoy your videos and liked the gundam reference.
I always wanted to replace my purple jaguar with MIJ or CIJ neck as they feel amazing! Have a Japanese mustang and it feels amazing. Would you know if a Japanese meck would fit on a purple squier body?
Lol, good luck with a future nasty neck pocket crack(s) once the humidity rises high enough. Why not just sand down the OG neck (use a contour gauge to maintain proper shape) until it’s the profile you like. Refinish with Truoil and Gunstock Wax, it’ll then feel better than any Nitro or Poly finished neck.
Fallaway’s for acoustic guitars, do NOT need that on electric guitars, just get ‘em level. Don’t need a radiused block either for frets, but if you do use one you better keep that thing dead straight, like using a guide (surface running parallel to the neck to act as a straight edge). Just a (non-radiused) sanding beam is perfectly fine for leveling frets. Radius blocks are for planing a fretboard after removing frets for a refret job. Hey, whatever works, but I’d be terrified to let you work on one of my guitars.
I would recommend using bees wax on threads for every screw going into wood. That will prevent toxic action between wood and metal..... BTW I like that new neck. You did a good job on those frets.
I have a custom made JM from an independent builder. He used a MIM Stratocaster neck on it, because as he explained to me they are virtually the same as JM necks in all specs except that the headstock is just very slightly different. It plays great, feels great and if I wasn't such a tinkerer, I would just leave it be. Now I can't stop thinking about maybe trying out a Japan made JM or even a Strat neck to see if I can improve the overall experience. Thanks for the new idea (new to me anyways) and continued great demos of your mods and playing.
A neck can make or break a guitar. It's important to have a neck that you feel comfortable playing. Personally, I can't deal with thin necks, nor can I deal with massive necks. I like a little beef on there, but the profile has to be comfortable. I enjoy a soft V shape, and if it's on a Stratocaster, it has to be scalloped. Great video! Nice to see you doing your own luthier work. It's not that difficult, takes a bit of practice, but it is so worth the effort. Too many guitarists seem to be of the belief that even adjusting the pickup height requires a mystical degree of craftsmanship! And you play very well indeed.
It would be really cool to have a guitar, neck, or any part from my birth year. Unfortunately, I was born in 1965, so I will probably need to win the lottery...
I often play switch the necks on my menagerie, it's amazing how much difference it makes. On my partsocaster that I assembled in 1983, the neck pocket has that little space like Aerial's when I use mij necks on it as the original neck is weeping for a refret. It's currently wearing a mexican Fender 50's style soft V that fits it a little better, but I have decided to dive in and do a refret on the old neck - mostly because it's journey with me through the decades
1995 JP Jazzmaster owner since it was new. Great guitar. Even better with upgraded pickups and Mastery. Last year I got a CV 70’s Jag, and after potting the stock pickups, it actually holds up great, too. Offsets > Tele > Strat in my opinion. I still want a Mustang, but have a hard time justifying it after getting the Jag.
Love your videos. But like sjk254 said, that neck fit is on the too-tight side and changes in weather can lead to cracks, especially on the treble side lip.
