Same here Alexander. I am tired of the city lifestyle and I feel I need a different lifestyle. Farming is hard work but I feel it is much more rewarding and meaningful.

Have you looked into the OKC area? They are really hurting for residents.

I was happy to find your channel. My husband and I have the channel called heartiness approach. We have a milk cow and raise our own eggs and meat chickens and then layers. We want very much to have sheep but have not ventured into it yet. I was very glad to find your channel since you are a first time Shepherd and it can give me the courage and the knowledge to be able to start this process. I have subscribed.

You should go for it! If you can handle a dairy cow you are more than up for the challenge.

These videos you produce have fantastic content. This is exactly what I want to do with our new property (which is rented out for now)on 4 agricultural zoned acres in Hawaii. We are hoping to see you at the HOA conference in Frontroyal Virginia next weekend. 🌈😃🤙

Sheep netting can be frustrating at times but overall I really utilize it and plan on investing in more. Works great for cattle too. Great video Steven.

thanks Stephen 😊 always find your content super helpful! We just purchased our LGD puppy this week and will be picking up 5 pure bred St Croix in a few weeks as soon as we have finished our fence! We are doing woven wire perimeter with one strand hot wire to connect the paddocks like you are doing. We also have netting, but thanks for the warning about sheep getting caught! Will bear that in mind. We are new to this too!

Thanks for sharing. I agree with you on the netting and danger to some animals. I had a 2-3 week old calf get caught in some poultry netting. Luckily I saw it happen and was able to get it out.

What advice do you have for those moving and starting to farm in a new zone/climate? We will be in a very similar area. Do you have advice for setting up a homestead? Harvesting hardwoods? Etc.

Bro get a welder and and smash the ends of your conduit pipe or chain link fence pipe. And weld your structures wicked light and super strong. I use greenhouse channel and wiggle wire to attach weather tight barriers to them. Great job your doing on your homestead!

That field is about 4 acres. The sectioned off paddock is 1/2-3/4acre

You should get a sickle bar mower and mow your hay with that instead of a bush hog.
@NaturesAlwaysRight

His cutter will be fixed next time. The bush hog is modified to shoot the grass to one side.

I have about 2.5 acres which is all grass aside from my house. Do I have enough space to raise sheep? If so, what do you think is the maximum amount I can have? Thanks!
@moonafarms1621
@moonafarms1621 Год назад
I would say only two ewes would be sustained by that acreage, if you're wanting to minimize your budget in supplementing hay during winter/early spring.
@moonafarms1621
@moonafarms1621 Год назад
You're going to need to make a few different pastures and rotate as well if you want to minimize parasite exposure too. Pumpkins are those ewes favorite to rid of some parasites too.

I have watched you from time, but I find the lack of any food preserving techniques leaves your channel lacking. What to do with all the food that you grow is what will address the food shortage issue you are basing your channel on. We will starve over the winter when there’s nothing in the pantry to sustain us. You’re just another guy that grows food and that’s all.
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight Год назад
I've been thinking about that exact thought recently! The last many years I've been practicing all those skills behind the scenes and just made my channel about farming only. I think I'm going to change that soon. I was the guy growing food 12 years ago before youtube when hardly anyone even thought you could make a living or do it using the most advanced natural techniques. I'm hardly just another guys that grows.
