A lot of what coyotes eat are also eaten by Screech Owls. Consider installing a Screech Owl nest box. Rodents host ticks and attract pit vipers. They probably provide an excuse for Coyotes to sniff around. Ward them off by having resident Screech Owls thin the mouse and Vole buffet.

Was thinking, as I was watching this… for future moves in a system like this, you could get a stack of wooden stakes, and different colors of spray paint. Pound a stake in near every fence corner. This way when you come back to that spot in your cycle the next time, you will know where your corners should be for easier laying out the loose fence, and the brush clearing prep. Each paddock in the cycle, use a different color for the corner stakes as you pound them in, so you don’t mix up your marker stakes when you come back to set up next time.

Awesome video, I’ve been doing the same with my 4 goats for about two months now with good results. I assume you are leaving them in the paddocks at night, but are you providing any shelter aside from the forest canopy during rain events? Currently I am utilizing a central area with a covered, three walled shack when we get rain. It’s just a pain to move them to and fro. Considering building something portable to eliminate the extra steps. What would you recommend?
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 2 года назад
I've heard goats need a shelter more than sheep. So far both my pigs and sheep no shelter but I always have a thick canopy somewhere in the paddock for them. Come winter if it's a cold rain then I'll probably set something easy up, if lambing I have a barn. We'll see I'm still learning and seeing what works well for others.

This is a really interesting idea! How many acres do you recommend for starting sheep? I'm on just under an acre
@NaturesAlwaysRight
@NaturesAlwaysRight 2 года назад
If you bring in hay/grain to feed you could raise them in just a pen. But on an acre 2-3, and you'll run out of grass at different times of year. You'd need to create a grazing plan so they stay off of areas for a couple months. Up to 5 if you supplement a lot. These are just educated guesses though I don't have enough experience.
@carlhutchinsondotcom

Curious why you didn't just put a fence up to guide them from one area to the other. Seems far simpler.

My mothers dad raised sheep, I actually have a blanket made from some of their wool . I can't raise livestock because I live in town. What I've heard from a cattleman is that they don't like sheep because the will eat everything including the grass roots, I assumed that is why there are sheep herders so they can watch them and move them periodically and protect them from predators.I don't know if I have ever had lamb or not, I didn't growing up I know, I did have some gyro meat a neighbor bought from a deli somewhere here in town that was supposed to be lamb and it was really good, it was flavored and mildly/pleasantly spicy. I hope they work well for you Steven. My take on the supply chain fail is that it was all intentional.

Yes I have learned that recently, it blew my mind. Makes sense though when I think about the landscape and infrastructure of a lot of the world. You need a big facility and cooling/freezers to deal with and store cattle. Realizing their size and lack of needing much infrastructure is one of the epiphanies I had about why sheep and goats really are the ultimate homestead animals and that's why they are the most utilized animals in the world.

Yea, what I noticed, is 'their' way of doing things is useless, totally monetarily materialistically oriented without any thought as to how their actions affect Humans, animals, plants and the planet. So they were ramping up the volume of their genetically modified 'foods' so that you are left with almost no nutritional value, which means your body is starving, and you continue to eat, but generally, you're going to turn to sugary and greasy foods to try to get a fulfilled feeling, which never comes. But when you grow your own foods, without their chemical poisons, you find that the food is packed with nutrients. And therefore you need less of a product. And when you eat it, you feel satisfied, you feel good, your body is healthy, so you don't need to eat and eat eat eat eat more and more because, you get everything in that small value packed nutrient rich food you cared for and grown yourself.
