Hi Kailey. How bad do bottle lambs remain bonded to you long after weaning? We bottle raised some nubians who had separation anxiety even when half grown. Anytime we were in the back yard they would come running to the fence and bleet incessantly wanting to be with us. Have you had similar experience with sheep or do they move on with sheep life without you? Great video! Looks like a great lifestyle!

If we have a ewe who's lamb didn't make it (when we are trying to help), we milk her, put the colostrum into containers and freeze it, so that if we do get a newborn lamb we have colostrum on hand. We also have powdered colostrum.

With the docking, we always wait until they are a couple months old and we do the whole lot at once, we also use numnuts, which injects medicine into that area which numbs the lamb and helps them to not feel the pain.

For Goats, whole cow milk works better then formula. Can sheep have that too?

Why did you cut the tail off tho?

Great question, Nina! We cut the tail off to keep the lamb more sanitary. Poop can quickly build up in the wool and cause problems. Banding a tail when the sheep is so young is virtually painless and eliminates a lot of future problems.
