Coming from an expert all-nighter and all round last minute gal, I have a few tips for if you attempt this again: 1. Do not have a bath, that will relax your body which does not promote an alert brain haha. If you have to wash, have a coldish shower. 2. Don’t get into pyjamas or anything overly comfy . Jeans are an ideal choice. 3. Caffeine. Lots of caffeine. I also encourage sugar but that’s just me 🤷🏼♀️ 4. Keep up snacking. The more you are snacking the more energy you will get. 5. Keep your room cool. Open a window. 6. Play upbeat music 🎧 7. Watch a scary film or even a clip of a scary film haha. Xx
I agree with most of this! I started at university and now I can't unfortunately kick the habit even as an adult with a job (sometimes that's the issue, too much work and too many deadlines). I've found simple carbs are the enemy; you need complex carbs (stuff with oats in is the best I've found). And lots of protein. A banana or two comes in very handy. But basically, yes, a steady stream of food works. For me if I eat sugar I have to keep eating it otherwise I crash. So sugar free energy drinks etc are better, but a source of caffeine is a must. Sometimes I've found a 1.5 hr sleep (i.e. one sleep cycle) halfway through can be better but otherwise the sheer adrenaline of a deadline is what gets me through. Sometimes my best work is at 2am. Sometimes I read it back the next day and think...you should get some sleep.
Totally agree with these tips, I studied architecture and became an expert all nighter, I used most of these tips, specially music, but above all the key was having something to do, I don't know about reading/writing, but drawing definitely kept me up real nice.
I think being in your pajamas, in your bed and on your own made this much more difficult. Do you have a 24hour library at uni? You could try doing it there. In my experience you kind of have to get past the first hurdle, you'll be really tired for 3/4ish hours after you usually go to bed, then you kind of get a second wind and become alert again. This video was great and as an insomniac I'm very jealous of your sleep cycle!
i’m genuinely baffled the entire way through this video! i go to bed at like 3/4am most days, i have no idea how anyone consistently sleeps before 11pm! wild
Rising Sunshine no I do the same thing and I work at like 8 or 9 some mornings and it doesn’t really effect my day. One time I was up till 5 and then went to bed and was up for work 8 like it was no big deal. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@timetogetmylifeback I go to university and I literally cannot remember the last time I slept before 11pm, I do all nighters all the time to finish work. Nobody I know at university sleeps at normal times hahahaha
‘I have made it to zero zero and I have never done that’ ‘I haven’t seen midnight for such a long time’ .. earlier in the video.. I stayed up to midnight the last two nights to prepare 😂
I’m a lawyer. In my first job out of law school, working in a high stress environment in Silicon Valley, I once went to work at 9am on Monday and never left until 2am on Wednesday. So about 41 hours working straight, high paced almost the whole time (just an hour or two catnapping on a chair as I waited for documents to be processed). The worst part of it? I was a salaried employee so I got no extra money for ANY of that hustle.
Bless you with your turmeric shot and pj's! I used to go to the 24hr computer room with 2 cans of rockstar, a bottle of diet coke, savoury snacks and change for the coffee machine. I'd be there til dawn buzzing my baps off and looking like an acid casualty when the cleaners came in 😂😂😂
I used to pull all nighters because it was the quiter moment to work. I studied architecture and I appreciated not having anyonr or the phone bothering me constantly.
I'll tell you how, there is no bigger joy than the joy of sleeping! The feelingof warm, soft sheets wrapped around you and your whole body and mind letting go of the day's stress while you relax into sleep is magic. Nothing is better than the peace you experience in sleep. I'm 22 and I'm in bed by 10pm and I would be in bed by 8 if I had the choice
@@caramelcupcake1275 I'm too restless for that. Went to bed at midnight yesterday, woke up at 5am this morning. I had my tea redy at 05:15am.... My alarm supposed to wake me up at 06:15am^^ Good to hear that there are some people sleeping enough :D How that is possible, I don't know cx
@@annitherainbow hehe relaxing my mind and body in bed stops me from getting restless, it's like meditation for me when I crawl under the sheets and I'm sure many people who sleep early feel the same. But if you feel rested with 5 hours sleep then more power to you lol :)
I could never imagine it eaither, used to got home from work at midnight then gaming til 2 am and then woke up 7am xD now i have a baby sooo i love to be in bed as soon as its dark 😂😂
To be able to get to sleep early you need to train yourself. No caffeine after midday, have decent well balanced meals, set up a night routine for yourself so that your body begins to wind down, dont use any technology after dinner, get into bed even if you dont want to and if youre struggling to go to sleep work on some breathing exercises. You may be genetically predisposed to being a night owl, but its not impossible to train yourself like anything else. Just takes work.
I don’t usually comment on youtube videos but I always look forward to watching your videos and love how often you’ve been uploading lately! Your videos never fail to make me smile, I love how real and genuine you come across as! You deserve way more subscribers too, you’re great ❤️
Oh my gosh you crack me up Grace, so funny. Being snuggled up in pj's and blanket definitely made the challenge harder, but when you couldn't find the right words (hands off instead of hats off to anyone.....) I just laughed out loud. Really enjoy your videos, had a stressful day at work and this totally cheered me up. Thank you 😁
Grace has the brightest most lovely skin. I am always envious of that because when your skin is that colourful and bright you don't need makeup. I've alway needed it becaue I have NO colour in my skin and I have dark circles naturally. Like concealer and blush makes me look alive, you have no idea.
I wish I had the discipline to make myself go to bed every day before 11pm. I'm always up until at least like 1 or 2am unless I have to get up early the next morning. Good for you for actually taking care of yourself lol 😂
Bless you! Your lucky to have such a good sleeping pattern. I finish work at 1am, get home around 2am and cook my tea, go to sleep about 5-6am. At least 1 night a week I don't sleep, if I have to be somewhere at 9am it's just easier to stay awake.
i looove being awake during the night, sometimes i will go to bed just after sunrise because it is so peaceful at night and the quiet it lovely. especially being outside at like 3-4 am in the summer months, its so peaceful and helps me relax my mind. but hey, if you enjoy going to bed early, you go girl. in my opinion, sleeping is like eating, everyone's bodies are completely different and require different things. we all have varying preferences and are wired a little differently, nothing wrong with that!!
Grace this is SO funny! Bless you! I get up at 6.45am and really struggle to get to sleep before half midnight/1! If I get into bed to watch RU-vid at 11 I am so proud of myself 😂! Also.. I totally watched that Tesco America video when I was in the RU-vid whole last week 😂😂!
Haha I love that the experiment started at 9:30 for you 😂 you're actually lucky to have such a good and consistent sleep schedule. As someone who has done many *involuntary* all nighters (literally just waiting in the dark for 8 hrs) I envy you !
Grackle you are so cute I love how shocked you are that people stay up so late! I usually get 6 hours of sleep on weeknights. Also I love your salt lamp!
When I saw this video I felt so old as i find all nighters really tough now, but then I watched it! 😂 I once stayed awake for 2.5 days. Basically every essay I ever wrote was finished around 5am as the sun rose and the birds began to sing. I’d crawl into bed for a well deserved couple of hours. Now, as a teacher I go to bed 9:30pm to wake up at 6am. But in the holidays I LOVE staying up as late as I want.
i’m watching this at 1:04am thinking its still early lmao. also loool @ grace realising students say they’re doing all nighters to work but no work gets done. HUN WE PROCRASTINATE, THE REAL DOING WORK ALL NIGHTER IS THE VERY LAST NIGHT BEFORE... the others leading upto it are more so for mental prep and to remind ourselves how much we shouldnt do this but know we will do it again
😂 watching this half way through a night shift.. don't finish till 7am. If you were out and about you would have been fine. Video was very funny, love what your doing😘
@11:00 all nighters were definitely a regular thing for me during uni and carried on after uni but as I got older my body can’t really handle them any more 😬 you glitching was definitely me the next day with no sleep. Sometimes I’d literally finish an assignment in the morning, get dressed and go to do a presentation with no sleep 🙄 Your body does get used to it, especially if you have time to sleep during the day. Also note - caffeine usually helps assist. Having a bath is relaxing to your body and laying in bed on your computer is also giving your body signals to sleep... All nighters were a part of my life once, sometimes it drops by to say hello unintentionally 😆
I typically go to bed at around 10-11 every night and wake up at about 9am however I used to go to sleep about 3-4 and wake up at 6-7. I just recently started a routine that makes me go to bed earlier but from my experience the best way to stay up late is to do the following! 1. DO NOT TAKE A BATH -The bath is your enemy. Baths are warm and calming and typically will put you to sleep. Instead take a shower. 2. Washing your face -wash your face with your morning face wash. Typically those are meant to wake you up. Also use cold water. 3.Don’t lay under the covers. -This warms you up and gets you into a sleeping position. 4. Look at screens as much as possible -when you look at a screen this typically will keep you awake hence why you should put your phone and electronics away an hour or so before you go to sleep! 5.If you feel yourself getting tired wash your face again. 6.Eat cold food. NEVER EAT WARM FOODS. -Eating warm foods can warm you up and you don’t want that try to be as cold as possible 7. If your feeling tired STRETCH -Stretching can typically suffice when trying to wake yourself up but if that doesn’t work try some light exercise. Lol that’s all my tips to pull an all nighter! Obviously you shouldn’t but if you must this is what I say to do!!!
My all-nighter stages 1AM: Completely awake 2AM: Still awake 3AM: Ferociously hungry and thirsty 4AM: Blurry vision and heavy eyes 5AM: Literally trying not to fall asleep 6AM: Collapse 1PM: Wake up
My routine - Wake up - 7am Head to school - 8am Come home from school - 5pm Nap - 6-7pm Dinner - 7pm Bed - 9pm *Some how I am still tired through out the day after a nap AND an early bedtime....*
My natural body clock is to pull an all nighter. I do it every Friday and Saturday night. Then start my work week again. In university I did then frequently then slept after school and stayed up until after school the next day
At least it's a consistent natural body clock, as in you wake up at similar times and can make plans without considering shit heavily. I normally stay awake for 17-19 hours a day and sleep for 9-10 depending, so I'm basically always waking up at different times. It's one of the reasons I'm not looking for a job right now. Have you tried sleeping aids yet? Chamomile tea and Lavender scents are supposed to be good, but I hate both of them so I haven't tried them out.
It’s actually mad how you can train your body to fall asleep at diff times tho, when I was 16 I’d fall asleep every night at like 3/4am but now I’m at uni and working I legit struggle to make it to 11pm most nights bc I’m so tired 😭 I feel ur pain Grace
I have had chronic insomnia for most of my life. So, I was shook that she's basically a granny with her sleeping schedule. Also, I felt so lost when they were fighting over M&S and Co-op. I'm clearly not from 🏴.
I’ve never felt such envy, in my second year of uni I stayed awake for 5 days in a row and my body started shutting down. But I think I’ve always had huge problems with sleep, honestly if I get more than 4 hours in a row it’s a miracle. It is not a bad thing to not be able to do an all-nighter, if you never need to.
Amazing effort considering you were in the cosy hoody/blanket. I would have thrown the towel in if I was that cosy! I work night shift and the struggle is real. Gotta keep moving and drink lots of coffee which I know you don’t like. You do you and get your 8-10 hours, all nighters should be on an essential basis! 😁 x
I love how you said you haven't seen 00:00 since probably new year's eve but also said you stayed up until midnight the past two nights... haha just having a laugh! I go to sleep at 9pm every night so I couldn't do this either unless I had an actual human with me forcing me to stay awake and entertaining me (and even then I probably still couldn't do it). I also can't remember the last time I was even able to stay awake until 11pm! good attempt!
I'm sure your body will thank you for all that good sleep! i've 80+ all nighters. whilst i'm sure they have had some terrible effect on my health, i find them so much fun. If you attempt it again, here are my tips! :D - iced coffee - open your curtains as soon as it gets light - sit at a desk, never lie in bed -wear day clothes -workout in the dawn light -hype music -blue light -video games
The funny thing is, I hadn't started my coursework until the day before it was due, which is also when I went to a Post Malone concert (he also came up on stage really late), the concert finished at like 11pm. On the train back, I was frantically researching my topic on my coursework, got food, went back to my flat at like 1am & stayed up 8 hours to start/finish my work. Turns out, I got 72% on it, I was really shocked, thought I'd get like 50% 😂
**laughs in it's 5am** I'm not even doing anything, I just need to hit my 19 hour quota before I start getting tired. It's a lifestyle at this point and I need to fix it tbh.
