As I continue with my first ever flutter app using Firestore, I talk about my impressions especially as it pertains to Flutter vs Apple's UIKit and/or SwiftUI. I Also go over how I created a custom collapsible header widget using SliverAppBar.

Loved it. As a Flutter developer myself, I'm proud of you. I tried a little bit of Swift and Kotlin, and to me they felt very restrictive to customization. Perhaps they don't want you to customize them. That is why I love Flutter. There's no limit to your customization, no matter how crazy your UI designer gets with their creativity, there's always a quick and fun way to make it. And Flutter community is huge, there is always a tutorial for everything you need, which is non existent/ behind a paywall for Swift and Kotlin.

I like Dart, but it definitely needs some improvements. Having to use Equatable (or overriding the == operator) for comparison, the lack of data classes, and all the code generation are things I dislike about it. However, there is some planning to handle data classes and code generation, so in a few years it could be more pleasant to work with.

Without code generation, dart/flutter would be unbearable to work with due to its overly verbose syntax

@@spiralhead If they removed code generation in the state that Dart's currently at, then yes, it would be even worse. But I feel like code generation only exists because of limitations within the language itself. Coming from Python, it feels weird having to generate code before I can use a package. Or how limited some of the packages are. But as I said, there are plans for making code generation more pleasant, so we can only wait to see how it's going to be. But I'd definitely prefer if they removed code generation with zero/minor impacts on the verbosity of the language itself.

I choose iOS native because Flutter makes tab space has only 2 spaces and can not set to 4 😢
@spiralhead
@spiralhead Год назад
Isn't there an option in VSCode to change the number of spaces?
@vuduc7563
@vuduc7563 Год назад
@@spiralhead I havent tried yet but in Android studio every language can change tab space easily, except Dart with only 2.

How come tryna be proficient in those 3 languages??? Dart,Swift and Kotlin ??being proficient in iOS dev is a milestone itself.😂😂🤦🏿‍♂️

Once you learn one language, the next ones get easier. For example, before I ever leaned Swift, I learned Java. Dart has a lot of similarities to java so it was easy to pick up.

All this header stuff is so easy to do with swiftui. I think you don't know the framework well enough. Also swift >>>>>>> dart.

Exactly he trying to be proficient in Dart ,Swift and Kotlin imagine ??!🤦🏿‍♂️😂😂

More like SwiftUI is half-baked and introducing new necessary features with each update, which you can’t even always use unless you target the latest and greatest iOS release versions. Which version of SwiftUI did navbar customization even get added? Limited and sloppy compared to UIKit.

Well I've watched a couple of Swift videos and Koylin too. I can honestly say Darts approach to asynchronous programming is much better in my opinion. Fast compilation and hot reloading etc. I think people make these types of comments without ever having done something meaningful from what they are used to

All these rookie devs coming in, not even reading my comment and just tranforming into keyboard warrior, saviour of flutter. No matter how pretty you make your app using flutter it will never replace what native can do. Flutter solves a specific problem. You'll understand this when you go ahead and build some real software not just some client consuming bunch of apis.
