Terribly shocked for the loss of your friend. Hope you find the strength to move on. In North India , generally we use wood. Cowdung patty is also an option for sure. The wood/cowdung patty looked insufficient though. Generally bodies keep burning for like a day or two .... this does not seem the case here.
@philipthandal997
@philipthandal997 2 года назад
Yes, In TamilNadu, the cow dung and sometimes wood is combined and the cold mud when applied acts like an oven and burns the entire corpse to ashes the next day morning, it takes like 8-10 hours for the entire corpse to turn to ash by this method. Even when the fuel (cow dung) is exhausted, the oven like setup ensures that the heat is retained and the corpse is burned down to ashes. Nowadays there is more electric cremation, so this way of cremation is slowly fading away.

However, when I went to Jagannath Puri in Odisha it looked very similar to the one with the cow 🐮 dung patties and mud on the ground. The cremation grounds in Puri are y the ocean 🌊. I was inside of that one too but never took out my camera 🎥 as I had done the research beforehand and understood it would be disrespectful to the grieving family members unless they gave permission. "Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust," Though these words are from some old Christian book of prayers, they sound more evocative of the Hindu method of last rites - cremation which is also followed by Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs, You are right, each Hindu community has its own rituals culminating in cremation. Contrary to what that guide in your Varanasi video clip said, only a fraction of Hindus are cremated alongside the Ganga. Each village, town and city has a designated cremation site usually with an electric crematorium nearby. Ashes are immersed in the nearest river or water body. Ceremonies are now getting abridged to save time, money and agony. Everything of personal use from clothes, personal implements, bedding etc is disposed leaving only ornaments, books and valuable objects as heirlooms or memorabilia. But the departed souls are venerated periodically by the family, usually the eldest son, in commemoration ceremonies. Cremation is perhaps the most sustainable practice. It is after all a final departure, unlike graves that maybe held only for limited periods and must be vacated after their lease expires.

There are actually 4 Kinds of Burials described in Hindu Scripture - Mahabharata : Fire Burial, Earth Burial. Water Burial & Sky Burial. Fire Burial is for People with Families, The most Common type of Burial. Earth Burial is for Sages and One who have taken a Vow of Sainthood. It is also called "Samadhi". Water Burial was for Royalty and Kings. It is called "Jala Samadhi". Hindu King Rama opted for this. Sky Burial is a Mythical Tale of a Hindu Sage "Trishanku" who requested Gods to suspend his Body in the Sky.

1) Dying in Varanasi is supposed to provide Moksha( freedom from cycle of life) . In the last few moments a person undergoes BhairavYatna . You are punished for all your wrongdoings. In Hindutva ,a person can only attain moksha if they are not attached to good /Bad Karma. 2) After death , there is 13 day Sutak period during which family needs to have light meal , completely vegetarian ,no onion ,no garlic. Not supposed to engage in any happy event. 3) each Year Shradh (ritual) is done during Period of Pitrapaksh for Shanti of all dead ancestors. After only does pattar stapna at Gaya do you become free from your ancestors debt. 4) If Our Birth Kundali (horoscope) shows Pitra Dosh that means you didn't pay you ancestors debts in previous lives . This will result in loans , Problems in family from parents end in present life.

And I was like kid everybody was telling grandma passed away .. and I knew that their is something called death after which we can't see the person who has died .. but when everybody was telling me to see grandma I hesitated a lot because I don't believe that she died .. even when people forced me to see grandma ...I looked at her and to me .. she was just like sleeping beauty .. she looked like she was sleeping so tension free .. I didn't cry at all ... But after three days when I realised that I actually don't see my grandma in our house anymore that's when I started to cry ... That's when my aunt told me that grandma has only left her old body but her divine soul is still living and she will take birth in next life and she will be born somewhere else as a baby .. so in a way grandma is eternal .. so I stopped crying but I still miss her sometimes. I used to sleep in her lap and used tk take her hand and put her hand in my head and tell her to move her hand from my eyes towards my forehead and towards my hair .. the warmth of her hands made me sleep instantly .. and what a tension free sleep sleeping under the village tree shade under the open sky the silent smoothing environment of village the slow life , the ringing bells on our family cows ringing and watching the tree leaves shaking slowly slowly along with the slowly passing wind , sleeping with my grandma on her cottage style bed called matcha , she is also sleepy but she with her half closed eyes embraced my forehead with her hand , untill I slowly drift off to sleep .. and that kind of sleep .. I still remember ...

Not brave, but irresponsible and disrespectful. Because he is White, he thinks he can just film any thing he wants to - including a funeral of a PoC. The grieving family probably were too nervous to tell him not to film their dead loved one. Then he puts it on RU-vid and monetizes it for his gain.
@zoltanmende
@zoltanmende 2 года назад
@@thewanderingsoul71 I partly agree with you, I love Ben's channel and personality, but I'd also recommend him to switch off ads on this video. (I believe it can be unintentional not to think about it, the income of this one episode will not effect his channel) On the other hand, as he mentioned, people took photos of the actual uncovered body and posted on Facebook, what sounds shocking for me too, but the family might take it as a way of respect and remembrance. Many famous people's funeral is broadcasted by TV channels as a sign of respect. Also, in Ben's video the body wasn't visible. I don't know, I don't judge, but pretty sure that Ben did not mean to be disrespectful at any way, and surely discussed it with the family. The other thing I want to react is the "white man" part of your comments. I am a white, Hungarian man who lives in London for 10 years now, and I am planning to move to India in the second part of this year, and I can't wait for it. I will not go there because my employer wants to send me there as an expat, or nothing like that. I will go there because during my years in London I had extraordinary positive experiences with Indian people and I became fascinated by their kindness, honesty and friendliness. Also the culture, the food, everything. It made me start watching hundreds of videos about India on RU-vid and those videos strengthened my feelings that I want to visit this amazing country with an open mind to settling down if that is possible. Trust me, I do not feel any sort of superiority at all as a white man, and I am sure that Ben is not that kind of person either. I know, there are some idiots, but those of us white people who want to spend an extended period of time in your beautiful country because of our own wish and love we have towards India (not because our boss or career requires it), none of us feel ourself "superiors" to Indians. I really, really hope and ask that if we ever meet, you and all Indians please do not treat me as "the big white"/"big western" man but with the exact same attitude as you do with your fellow Indians. I am not less and not more, I want to go there because I find your country and nation amazing and I can't wait to spend time there with you, Indians. And if I will ever misunderstand something or due to my different cultural background I will behave inappropriate (it can happen unintentionally), then please, please, remind me and tell me honestly what did I do wrong, so I can learn more about your culture and do not take the same mistake again. :)

I'm sorry for your loss Benjamin...just if you're curious, the mud is placed top of the body so that it adds weight from above and suppresses the body during burning. Otherwise literally the body would sit up due to variations in heat and move because of that heat. This is called pugilistic pose. You can google. Modern electric crematoriums which you can find in cities are much more efficient and generates more heat. So there is no need to place mud or wood above the dead body.

Condolences to you. Foreigners may intimidated by Indian funeral. Family members abstain from intermingling within the community for over 13 days (it's like family quarantine to avoid spread of diseases as the dead body decomposes). Gangaajal is given to the departed by near and dear ones also as a part of ritual. Tonsuring is part of ritual. Usually an elder Or youngest son lits the pyre without wearing unstitched clothes (dhoti Or vesti). When an old person dies of long fruitful life, there is a may a different ritual from them. After 11-13, after cleansing, a big ceremony is held where bhoj Or food is offering to everyone with invitation.

Greetings friend, may I request that you keep your sound track more at one volume? Your speech is soft, but then the music is much louder. It makes it hard for me to watch until the end. I'm so sorry to impose. I agree with another commenter that the way you perceive your world is very kind and comforting, thank you for that! 🙏 Namaste

Sorry for your loss. May your friend's soul RIP. In bigger cities in India, we have an electric crematorium where the body is burnt in a furnace in less than 15min. Not all Hindu cultures in India have processions

When my Grandmother passed away last year during the deadly second Covid wave, I was the only person to cremate her due to restrictions. From collecting her body to dressing it for cremation and giving her body fire, to picking her remains the next day. I can honestly say that being so close to her, that too alone, made me feel like my time with her meant something, that there was a final and sincere communication, that when I gave fire to her body there was a closure. My family couldnt see her during this process and I find that its difficult for them to come to terms with her death

Condolences bro 🙏.. Crematoriums are available in cities. Yes, these rituals help us move forward. All funeral processions are not accompanied with drums...it changes with different people, society..etc

In Tamil Nadu, it’s believed that the music with thappu and dancing is a form of spilling out the sorrow. When a death happens to an old person who has lived well it’s considered good death, then the drums and dance will be to celebrate the life the person had well lived and it’s like giving them a happy send off.

I've seen this drums and fireworks during funeral procession in Hyderabad too. I think it is a common practice in the South.

The reason why family is considered spiritually impure is because, their sadness forms a negative aura in their body. And when they go to th temple, their aura kind of reduces the positive energy inside the temple. So other people wouldn't be able to attain their highest level of spirituality. I read this in an article. I just can't find the right words and form a sentence.
@shankarkrupa
@shankarkrupa 2 года назад
The reason is the ancestors and the close relatives in a different form take more priority than paying homage to God. The ceremonies of the deceased take more priority and everything else is a distraction...not because of negative energy. There is also a need to be aligned with the rest of the family so celebrations, religious festivals are all shelved off temporarily.

Difficult to process the passing away of a friend or loved one whether it is east or west. In India they do all sorts of ritual for the soul to get liberated from the cycle of birth & death and to merge with the divine!!

Little that I know about the hindu scriptures; what i understand of Hinduism (as i a observer from last 3 decades)to celebrate every change that happens outside and inside. Outside means every Hindu festival is significance of season change markar sankranthi, diwali, siva rathri, dushera all significance change of weather. Inside means family and you, family means we celebrate birth of child, when i same kid turns, moves, walks, every change is celebrated you means a person has several changes like birth, childhood, adulthood, marriage, oldage, dealth... Hinduism celebrates everything from birth to death, from bird to tree, from water to air to fire.... namaste.. every thing is sacret.
