Watching this video alone in my living room, I found myself cheering for you aloud! Seeing you aloft actually brought a tear to my eye. Hearing Dave and Nigel's commentary added to the wonder of it all (as I assume the cameraman had not yet flown solo, you could hear his respect for you & slight apprehension for his future flight.). Loved seeing your satisfied happiness during the post-flight debrief to us. Well done, Mr. Jack!
Congratulations Sandy from Canada. Thank you so much for including us in your big day. Best bit of entertainment I've had on the tube in a long time. Best of luck as you practice and improve.
Holy crap, I had never seen anyone taking off attached to one of those devices. Whoever thought that flying around with a giant food blender on your back while sitting on a huge container of explosive liquid would be fun is a genius - it looked like a real blast. Well done on achieving your dream Sandy.
"Whoever thought that flying around with a giant food blender on your back while sitting on a huge container of explosive liquid would be fun is a genius" - LOL!
You want a laugh, try finding some videos of the first attempts at this stuff, before high quality gear was a thing. The ramshackle bits of metal and lawn mower engines people strapped to themselves. Those people had balls of steel imho. There is also some really scary crash videos of these things. Beware though, it may put you off ever trying one. I watched one, something went wrong, the guy tried to pull his wing close enough to throw his reserve, otherwise the reserve can get tangled. He still pulled it to early and the majority of the video is HD audio of this guy falling to what should have been certain death. Raw numbers wise, these things are VERY safe. But that's testament to the people in the sport to date. Now, with some big RU-vid channels that have brought more attention to the sport, they are seeing more and more accidents. Unfortunately, I give it 2 years before they start regulating the hell out of this sport.
Amazing! Well done Sandy. A wonderful moment in your life you will never forget. Looking forward to the videos you will eventually take while flying with the birds.
Wow Sandy that must have been some experience....you are an example to all of us. You don't just talk the talk, you walk the walk and get out there and experience for real. Some sad souls decided to give this a thumbs down probably because they would rather sit on their arse and dream and knock those who get on with it and do it. Full respect to you :)
Having seen your more experienced take offs and landings I thought it looked easy. Now I've seen your first solo I've realised there is a lot to learn. Very well done Sandy!
Sandy, you just never cease to amaze and inspire! Certainly one way of taking your aerial photography to the next level! Absolutely brilliant and very pleased for you my friend, congratulations on the flight... Many more to come I hope!
I'm so happy and excited for you Sandy. I really enjoyed this I think as much as you did! I'm really looking fwd to the next video and those to come. I hope you'll speak a little more about the machine specs such as range, and or flight time etc. Thanks again for sharing. I hadn't seen a unit like this before. I had envisioned something more like an ultralight aircraft with a small triangular carriage to ride in/ on. You've really peak my interest so to speak. Take care and be safe.
Well done Sandy! A human drone soon. It is an amazing feeling being up in the air and a bit of you always will be! I have done 2 parachute jumps, one at 10,000 ft, and I often look up and still see myself up there! Happy flying.
Well done Sandy! You really are a master of many skills & you will matter this as well in time! You do your research & preparations very well on the tasks you chose to take on ,which really helps in your mastering of them! Thanks for sharing & looking forward to seeing you in the next one!
1) Height never killed anyone but lack of it did. 2) You get zero out of 10 for a bad landing but 11 out of 10 for "going around". 3) Always err on the side of caution - there is no stigma in turning around. 4) ATC works for you - NOT the other way around - You're in charge as PIC. 5) Never fly through clouds with rocks in them. 6) Trust your instruments - Always. 7) Experience doesn't make your journey today assured - Refer to point 3 above. Congratulations dear Sir on completing your first solo circuits. Next is your solo overland.
Nothing short of just awesome Sandy, you're a little younger than I am and as such a huge feat of courage on your part, congratulations at not growing to old.
Superb, Wiltshire Man spreads his wings and becomes bird man. Congratulations on following the dream, I'm extremely envious. Looking forward to seeing more of this. From the look on your face it looks like a lot of fun. Atb, rich
Sandy that was amazing. Now you have a first person drone Eye view. Can't wait to see some footage from up there. Stay safe as so many of us enjoy watching you loving life. 👍
What could be better start for the day than watching 'happy dude' explaining his first flight! You did so good and I am happy for you Sandy! Awesome! Enjoy🚀Atb, Osmo
15:17 "F-ing brilliant!" :-) Good effort, Sandy. I'm so glad you are finally able to indulge in your dream. You always come across as a hard-working, caring, and humble guy and I respect you greatly. I hope you get a lot of pleasure out of this passtime. Be safe and enjoy!
I remember my first solo glider flight with the Raf GSA at Bicester many years ago in an old T21 zedburg on the winch. There is no sensation like it. Well done Sandy.
Well done sandy I take my hat off to you your 1st flight looked pretty good to me very interesting hobby look forward to more videos on this subject . Thanks for sharing take care my friend.
Brilliant Sandy...put a smile on my face as I knew what you must be feeling. I got my hand gliding wings many years ago and of course my dad was a Jump Master. Congratulations on the flight. Many more to come and many more glorious hours upon the horizon - literally. Being into the hills have you ever thought of Para Gliding? I know I have and may do it one day. Well, enjoyed that - you looked awesome up there. All the best...airborne! Mark
Looks fantastic sandy! Great job, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing :-) I would LOVE to give this a go - just superb and the weather!!!
Been watching your Paramotor videos Sandy and they are brilliant, I would really like to do it myself one day, hope to see many more when the summer arrives .....👍
Good Job! You're increbible! What don't you do? Sandy you're my idol WOW!! Well you've gotten me back out camping again. I'm not sure I'll follow you into this one though. I don't think I could afford it. One of my sons is and instructor pilot and would like me to get certified but It seems flaying is a pretty expensive activity. Well, I'm so glad to have made your acquaintence here on RU-vid. Thanks for another awesome video.
Wow like the new hobby sandy looks fantastic, I have been watching all your videos over the past year even though I don't comment, I think that's down to working all hours, anyway short story in this video it brought back memories past and present because before the flying school at Membury I used to work for the contractor who farmed it when it was arable land remember harvesting there back in 2004, and present you drove past my house once on the way there and then again back which was funny to watch also. All the best.
My first three solo launches when training for my Gliding License were; medium level cable break, low level cable break, then a successful launch. My scariest landing was as I sank slowly towards a landing on a fence. Nose down at the last minute caused a heavy landing but missed the fence by inches. Great video :-)
Great stuff Sandy, very happy for you. Looks like taking off is difficult, a lot going on. As for the landing, as the old say goes "any landing you can walk away from is a good one" Cheers mate :)
Congratulations Biggles you are now the certified Birdman of Swindon, your instructor said your takeoff was ropey ! I would say you took off with style, how many take off on their knees, bloody nice one Sandy it did look like a lot of fun mate, atb.
Well done Wiltshire man, it wasn't the best of weather days for the job, so sympathy for that, and the wing doesn't look like the most stable either, but well done in getting aloft. You'll love it! From a fellow flyer and wild camper in Aberdeenshire, atb.
Total respect sandy I fly power kites now and then for fun the power the wind produces is unbelievable I'm not a heights person so for me the thought is scarry you did a cracking job I look forward to the future go pro footage you will bring all the best
Absolutely fantastic WW there was tears in my eyes when you landed it’s a shame you didn’t have a cam with you up there but I know you had a lot to think about, I’m so glad the first one went well great stuff, atb BC
Looks so good. I want to have a go even more now. I'm sure you'll nail take off in no time, it definitely seems to be the hardest bit! I look forward to seeing more!
I enjoyed your documentary on your first flight! I still remember mine like yesterday, it was 16th October 2011. I wish I had a video of my first. My landing and takeoffs were ropey too and I also landed on my knees and bum quite a few times 😜. It will all come together over time and you never stop learning. Blue skies and welcome to the Paramotor world 😀
Haha Sandy, my wife came to see why I was cheering and clapping my hands :-) Kudos to you Sandy...RESPECT and only thing I can think of now is "JIHHAAAAA" Greetz Yves
Congrats Sandy, it takes a brave man to commit himself to something like this, regardless of his fascination with flight. Big question is.....will the allotment now be a runway with landing lights? 'The Flying Allotmenteer' has a ring to it :)
I subbed to your channel after the Funky Prepper knife making vid, since then I've been living my life vicariously through you, one day i'm hoeing the veg on the allotment the next i'm flying lol. Love your channel Sandy and you get me out of my wheelchair in my imagination if nothing else, so thanks mate and keep up the awesome vids.
Excellent job sir. Hang in there. Invest in a good wing, macpara, apco or Ozone. Easy to inflate. Once the wing is up, stick with the run, it may lean to one side, but it will straighten. Get a good wind sock at least 20' up. Keep practicing. It gets easier. Keep running until it picks you up, don't jump in the seat. Very happy for you.
Gosh !, rather you than me Sandy, but congratulations though on your first solo flight. It looks quite a scary hobby, but looking forward to further updates and flights.
The best day for a fist flight would have a little more, and more consistent wind. Just enough to assist with getting the wing up but not enough to feel a lot of power from the wing. Even experts can have trouble on a day like yours. Shifting light winds are the toughest launch conditions. It looked pretty bad to the uninitiated but you managed to get into the air on a very difficult day! Good for you! All other conditions will now seem easier to you and that will make you feel great! The same thing goes for the landings. It seemed difficult for you today but in easier conditions you will find it easier which will make you feel confident. Only one piece of advice, you were applying full power WAY to early and you jumped into the seat (big no no). Good job on your 1st. solo!
Yes conditions were not ideal for a first flight. Happy to say that sofar I have 26 flights now and things are much better, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AEInPiKSn1A.html
In my early 20's I remember looking in to normal paragliding on the South Downs - purple haze was the club. But I never actually got around to it. Looks amazing & as the chap said your a natural aviator. So the question is Sandy in the future do you think you could do tandem flights? Wouldn't mind coming up with you 🛫
Congratz on your first flight! I'm not going to state the obvious, but I'd love to hear you evaluating your own comments at the beginning of the vid after a few more flights. The conditions surely were not in your favour.... Take care man!
Your welcome anytime sandy, I did see someone over head this morning at about 9.30am at foxhill did wonder if was you sandy lol, are you restricted to how far you can fly at the moment.
Is there a particular reason you chose powered flight rather than soaring off ridges? I watched them at Mam Tor and it looks so peaceful without the motor, and the air current keeps them up for as long as they want (if you are not a beginner). Chris
That was awesome sandy, I felt the adrenaline all the way. It's something I really want to do when money allows... hearing someone say your a natural must feel great. Now you've flown it should get easier each time you do it. Atb jezzaoutdoors 👍🏻 jez😜
