Hello Diana, please make a video on how you do alterations with a projector once you get comfortable with it. That is THE one thing that stops me from buying a projector. I have length and size modifications to do practically on all patterns. Love ALL your videos btw. You inspire me to sew when I see all your beautiful makes 😁
I adore my mini projector. I love it so much that I just purchased an ultra short throw Epson to use on my kitchen table so that I can use my large mat. We will see how that goes setting it up. The mini projector was less than $100 including the mount and HDMI cord. The Epson used was $100 with a mount.
So excited to see you using a projector, Diana! I have the Alvar 9000 ceiling mount one projecting to the floor. It was an affordable way to see if I liked this technique but I’m thinking I’d like to save up for a short-throw instead. The initial setup and calibration was a pain but now I’m really seeing the benefits. One caveat though is when I need to inverse the lines so they are white cut lines that can show up on a dark fabric. There are some free apps to do this but I haven’t quite figured them out yet.
Try patternprojector.com. It’s a new, free application that allows you to easily calibrate your projector and start cutting in minutes! I use it every time I project now.
Looks totally cool and would save a lot of money on A0 printing or on printer ink! However, I’d project onto a large roll of paper, trace it out, because I always have to adjust my patterns for my 5’2” height with a short waist and pear shaped body… plus I love to be able to hack my patterns😊. Thanks for making it look so easy!
Hi, I don’t have a projector yet and also 5’2””, so that was one of my concerns. However I saw a tutorial on how to alter whilst projecting and it’s even easier than doing it on paper. Think it was via the FB group “Projectors for Sewing” loads of help and info on there, so it’s now high on my list to get
So glad that you finally switched. I have been waiting on you Diana! Since your patterns are from E&M, I had always wondered why you were using printed patterns. I am exciting to go on this journey with you. I have recently installed a projector myself but haven't yet used it. With your inspiration and "hand holding" me through this process, of course I will feel more confident watching you do it with me! Can't wait!
I bought an Epson UST 455Wi from ebay 2 years ago and have tried so many times to get it calibrated and although I follow all the tutorials, it just won't square up. I haven't tried for at least a year because it is so frustrating. I have mine mounted to the wall and although I can move it up and down, it doesn't calibrate, so I will buy a stand like yours and see if that helps. Thanks for posting!
I got one mounted on the ceiling wish I would have gotten a short throw projector. Anyway I have yet to actually use it but it’s on my list I have to get familiar with it again it’s been like 2 years! 😮
Great job! I have the same projector but I haven’t used it yet. I was wondering what kind of tv stand you are using because it looks like it’s mounted to the stand.
The link you shared for the projector is actually the link for the stand . If you could please share the projector link I would really appreciate it !!! I am very interested in one that sits at the table side
Diana I’ve been dabbling into the world of grading/shortening etc via affinity designer directly within the Ellie Mac projector file. But when I try to export the pdf to open into adobe it says it can’t be exported. I think maybe because it is password protected? Is there any way projector sewists can do this within the file or no?
I love the idea... But I have to alter for FBA, grade a bit between sizes, and shorten. So even if the pattern files let you alter, suspect it's a steep learning curve & investment.... Though still interested in this process!
There are lots of videos about using projectors for sewing, with videos on how to modify patterns using software, and how to do simple things like adjust for length. The nice thing about using a projector is that if the digital pattern has layers, you can hide size lines you don’t need and show sizes you do need. Then you can grade between sizes as you cut. For the FBA it’s only the front bodice you need to modify? You could project and cut the fabric for all the other pieces, trace the front bodice onto paper, make the FBA then use the altered pattern piece to cut that out of your fabric. It would still save you time messing with only one paper piece. There are videos on how to “clone” a garment and create a digital file from it. You could use that method to “clone” and digitize your newly-altered FBA-done bodice front, too, so you only need to do that once. If you were super ambitious you could learn how to do an FBA digitally in software like Affinity Designer, Inkscape, or Illustrator. Up front yes it’s a bunch of time. But it would be an investment in future time saved, and less physical space needed for storing patterns.
This sounds exciting, i was thinking about a projector myself couple of times, but how do you make pattern adjustments if and when you need to make them?
diana how did you mount the projector to the tv stand? do you find using the adobe program to configure the projector pattern pieces on the material works well enough or is there other software that is recommended? I just don't have time to print, glue, then do tracing paper anymore, also running out of space with all the printed patterns to store! please also do a video showing how to shorten/lengthen with a projector when you have time. thanks!
Thanks Diana! I just set up my Epson short throw and am ready to project and cut. I was lost in the part where you did “command y“ and said your magnification was 17.9. What does that mean and how do you know that number? How would I figure it out for my projector?
Hi! There is a new, easy way to calibrate now. It is free to use. You can go to www.patternprojector.com and download the app. Then it’s very quick to calibrate. You drag the corners to match your mat, enter how big your mat is (example 24” x 36”), then you check the lines.
Hi, can I ask about your stand please? I've purchased a wall mounted stand previously and it would not stay level and the projector kept falling forwards slightly. Does this stand stay completely level, would you say it's firm?
@@EllieandMacPatternsLLC thanks. I had given up on a projector due to space issues, but after seeing your demo, an ultra short throw one may be in play again. I see that there are many refurbished one online. As far as you know, do they have known glitches/faults that would explain why there are so many second-hand refurbished ones? Thanks
how tall is your cutting table? I'm asking because I was looking at the projector stand you have, and I want to make sure I get the right size for my cutting table. The stand itself has the option of buying the 50" or 70" height.
@@EllieandMacPatternsLLC ok now I know for sure that I will definitely need to get an Ultra short throw and now that I have my table built and it is exactly 38 inches tall with a 4x8 tabletop on it. I would like to know if you think I should get the "standard" size or the "extra tall" size for this exact same stand? The standard goes from 29.5 to 49 inches and the extra tall goes from 54.5 to 70 inches Hight. I will be sewing adult clothes and dresses, so I want to make sure I have a good enough distance between cutting table and projector. Thank you in advance for your help.
I can't afford to buy a projector, nor do I have anywhere to mount one. I get my AO patterns printed at a local print shop for a reasonable price. I then trace off my size onto Pellon 830. I bought a bolt at half off at Joann's. This system works well for me.
I do not have a projector so my question is if you have different sizes you want to sew do you have to change much on the projector and is is confusing? Thanks Linda
From what little I know about the Ditto system, you can only use their proprietary patterns. That's why I stay away from proprietary software and systems like the Ditto.
@@KitchenFairy61they now have capability to use your own patterns. There is need to “prepare” the pattern for use with the Ditto or any projector, but once that is done, you save it to your computer and don’t have to do it again, and it works well. I’m new to it but calibration of the projector (which all projectors require) is very easy, and Ditto software is easy to use. Their You Tube Channel tutorials are very good.
I got it second hand on Ebay, shipped from US to Canada and it costs me 215 $ US. Or 300$ canadien with duty and taxes. That's a deal! Now, we are looking at each other...and I don't know how to proceed first...
