I scrimped and saved and bought this beautiful 1999 Rolex Submariner No Date in October 2015 from DavidSW. It's an iconic watch that has satisfied an almost elemental desire for a timeless design. Hopefully, I'll have this one forever.
It is meant as a daily wearer, it is the definitive tool watch and at its very coolest when worn as your only watch and daily wearer. I have the same model and it is welded to my wrist, morning and night, swimming, showering, casual suit, work play etc, It loses all its magic if not worn. Remember, this watch was made as the ultimate military Royal Naval diver (MIl subs). Too many of these watches are left to languish in a box. wear it as the watch it was meant to be, not the ridiculous bauble it has been made to be by the media and other peoples assumptions . It is the greatest watch ever, made for the man who wants just one thing that he can have on his wrist forever, that just does what it does should do...everyday. One piece of advice, send it to Rolex service centre when it requires servicing, between 3-5 years. Don't trust anybody else, false economy.

Great reading...I agree, what an excellent tool watch. It is made to be worn and it is an incredible daily beater. You are not going to diminish the value of this tool watch. I Have the 14060 M and it's getting fairly expensive on the secondary market.
i have 3 modern rolex (pepsi, batman and JC DSD) and added a 1460M to collection 2 weeks ago , mine is 2001 as it is my daughters birth year so will give to her in ten years or so. Love it worn it every day, in fact love it more than i thought i would. Seems to sit so nice on wrist and the strap is really comfortable.
Beautiful piece. I'm thinking about getting that exact model as well. I recently visited a local dealer and played around with a few Subs and my only insight is that bezel shouldn't be that difficult to turn. Probably something that can be addressed when you have it serviced. Great video, enjoy your Sub in good health!
great video! i have a 1996 sub with date, bought it pre-owned complete with box and papers, but yours are more complete, as mine did not include the Submariner booklet. love this model too vs the new ceramics. cant wait to watch your orher videos.
TheDutchSandwich, thank you for sharing your 14060M, it's a real beauty! Like you, I also own the Tudor BBH-blue, but my next watch that I am eyeing is the 14060M. I had the chance to see it in-person and try it on yesterday! Although the 14060M is my favorite Rolex, my Tudor BBH has more heft/weight to it and it surprised me! Also the bracelet on my Tudor BBH felt more solid too. I love the Tudor because of its military heritage, and I love the 14060M because of its heritage, build quality, simplicity, and both are great Tool watches!

Congrats on the beautiful timepiece. Some things are iconic for a reason . Such a classic, timeless design, and a solid, dependable watch. Took me years to finally appreciate Rolex . Have a Y series from 2002 - 14060m - Love it so much and it is my daily watch now . But I love that you got one from pre-2000. Makes it just a bit more classic . Very nice.
thomas w schaller Thank you for sharing that. I totally appreciate how it takes some time to appreciate Rolex. For me it was wrapping my head around spending that much on a watch and trusting its not going to depreciate.
Yep. I've always loved watches and like many, "Rolex" was the first name you hear, but sometimes the last one you come to really appreciate. But over time you learn that the build quality, simple classic design, and strong residual value are not to be ignored. Over years, I grew to love the classic no date, 2 line Sub , I waited and saved for an excellent example to appear. It finally did and I got for a pretty good price. Couldn't be happier with it.
Did ya give it a really good cleaning? The stiff bezel may be just crud built up on the spring the ratchets the bezel setting, it will make the movement stiff, great video, I love the watch, I just stare at mine 90% of the time lol
+lancer7610 It was $4,500. I do prefer it to the black bay as it sits a little closer to the wrist and isn't quite as thick as the Tudor Black Bay. I find that the taller watches like that "feel" heavier because they aren't as balanced on the wrist and/or don't sit as close to the wrist. Thanks for watching and commenting! tDS
I would agree with almost everything in this video except the bracelet. The older bracelets with the hollow links or shockingly bad considering it's a Rolex. Especially when compared to a modern bracelet. I have mine less than a week before I had to change it to a leather strap this was because I wasn't confident with the clasp I caught the diver extension on my pocket twice which completely opened the deployment clasp. Not good for a watch that costs in excess of 5 k I put a black leather strap on mine with white stitching and it looks really smart would highly recommend this
I think if we wanted a unique watch wed buy a Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon Ref. 6002G but if you wanted more unique just get a pen and draw one on your wrist. Nice 99 Sub!! :D
I like this one better than the new maxi dial and case. But the bracelet supposed to be flimsy and the lock can open from the wrong side when stuck to something. What is your experience with the bracelet and lock??
Hey. That's one slick looking no date. I love the 2 line subs. I have been looking for a pre owned no date sub, and plan on purchasing one soon. I don't have any local pre owned Rolex shops where I live, so I have been searching out a reputable online shop. Do you highly recommend David SW? Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Oh and even though I'm a gamecock fan (hahaha), I still think you have a great channel. Keep up the good work! Cheers.

Hey great video. This is the exact model I'm planning for next. I bought my first (and only so far) Rolex also from DavidSW (a polar 16570 Explorer II) and I agree, he is great to deal with. Do you still enjoy this watch?

Smig_RB No they got the new movement at around 2001 i think but it got certified then around 2006. Not 100% sure with the years might double check on google
I want a 2 line (okay, I could live with 4 line), date (no cyclops), ceramic bezel, long lug (like your example), maxi dial, new bracelet / clasp submariner. When they do that, I'm joining the Rolex club.... May never happen.
+TheDutchSandwich The seadweller is closer to what I'm looking for, but I just don't like the thicker square looking lugs. I like the thinner lugs they used to have.
Yup, still have it and it's still keeping good time. The new Tudors have an in house movement and a massive power reserve. I would definitely start with Tudor and then Rolex later.
