Man, to have run a few 100 mile weeks, then get injured shortly after must have been a huge mind game. I know you'll come back better and stronger than ever - especially mentally. I got injured 7 weeks out from my 3:15 marathon attempt. I would have had the fitness if I didn't get injured, because I made it 19 miles at 7:15-20 pace, then my body just couldn't keep up with that pace. Next year though.
I’ve been off of running for about 3 months for a hip fracture, so to see someone so positive and patient in getting back to running you give me a lot of hope and it’s great to see your return!! Kudos!!
Wishing you a speedy recovery as you get back up and going. I’ve had two friends of mine that have dealt with Sacral stress fractures and I know it was difficult for them, but they both made full recoveries and are back running (one qualified for USAs in the 1500 this year.) Don’t lose hope! Be patient and you’ll be back soon. Do what you can to stay in shape while you’re off
that oeathletics piece at 6:00 felt like a movie. awesome sound design, editing, and shots man. keep it up. Coming back from a stress fracture on my foot as well and couldnt run for 4 months. Great to see you return big bro.
Best of luck with the return back to full strength! Hard and lonely road at times but something you’ll be thankful for when you’re back crushing it. Keep up the great content!
Let’s go, getting back to running after an injury is so exciting but also so difficult because let’s be real we all want to do more lol. Anyways good luck on the comeback man!
That’s what I’m doing! Trying to keep it to about a half mile every other day and then a mile every other day and then ease into a semi-normal week of training. I know what caused the issue and I’m working on ensuring that it doesn’t happen again.
Any mental advice for running higher mileage? I’m in highschool jumping up to 60-70 miles and am finding it tough to stay motivated and fit the runs in with school/work
Well you have to figure out what you actually lack. Is it time or is it motivation? If it’s time, then that’s a trickier subject. If it’s motivation, then that’s a little easier. The easiest way I look at running is that all you have to do is run for 90 minutes a day to get really good at it. Theres about 960 minutes a day that you’re awake if you sleep 8 hours at night. So 90 minutes isn’t really that much time. So each time you go out for a run, don’t look at it as if you have to go run. Look at it as if you are going out to do something that is going to make you better. Don’t spend the day stressing about your run. Spend the day doing the things that are important to you outside of running. Then when it’s time, turn on that switch for 90 minutes and get the work done. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s not always going to be easy and fun. But at the end of the day, it will make you better if you do it over a long period of time.
When I couldn’t swim, I would hop on the elliptical. Usually just 30 mins a day of either swimming or the elliptical. It kept me somewhat fit. I tried to do intervals sometimes of 1 on/1/off.
Every now and then I’ll feel it a little bit throughout the day for about 10 seconds and then it goes away. Probably just hypersensitivity. I don’t feel any pain in the specific area while I’m running, though. I’ve been told that I’m going to probably feel a little bit of something. That’s what happens when you injure a bone. But because I haven’t started ramping up a ton of mileage, I haven’t really noticed anything. Also, as I build back in I’m focusing a ton on efficiency in my form and making sure that what happened doesn’t happen again. The main cause was sloppy form over tens of hours per week. Also planning on focusing on building up the right strength in my glutes and core.
Grade 3 bone stress injury in my tibia. I’ve been swimming a good bit and recently been on the elliptical to get in some sort of exercise each day. Gym membership just ended today, but I might use my sisters while I’m back in town. I’ve been pretty consistent with it. Missed exercising today, but I’ll be able to run tomorrow and I’ll get to keep testing the leg. I don’t feel like I’ve lost too much fitness, but I know I lost some. Just gotta get back up and going and start implementing more cross training into my regimen with lower mileage. That should keep me healthy and set me up for success
