Hi good video Brock! Question im a former power lifter now runner , my question is do you think compound lifts like bench press and incline press heavy 5 sets 5 can slow you down as a half and full marathon runner? I’m mostly a long distance guy and I enjoy lifting and running, but I heard heavy upper body work can slow your pace down and increase your heart rate higher during running. Do you think heavy upper body lifting is detrimental to long distance running ?
i love watching ur videos. i’m in 8th grade and i might hit my teams top 10 and if u do then u get to go to region and state, and this guy is helping out so much. keep it up man!
Guys expect it to hurt. I would expect it to hurt early, and when it did I had already expected it too, it helped me feel more in control of the race. Also my #1 tip is to control your breathing. Once i started controlling my breathing i was running such better races
Super true. My summer training isn't going as planned right now, because of a knee injury. I've been forced to pivot to mostly cross training, and I had to let go of my need to have a perfect summer build and an aesthetically pleasing Strava profile. It's made me mentally stronger, and my fitness is actually coming along nicely. Thanks Brock, sincerely, from a fellow D2 runner 👊🏼🙌🏼
I’ve been doubting my summer training because of small things like not perfect consistency or my Garmin not getting the perfect distance, but this had helped me realize that I have not been running for nothing and my training will pay of this season.
i need a video with tips on tricking the mind. i go running a lot and especially in races i have a hard time keeping going because my mind tells me to stop. i really want to overcome that hurdle and with that i l really admire you !!!! wow
Hey man, I'm a high school kid who is pretty slow, one of those guys that has to walk up hills to stay in zone 2. Do you have any input as to whether I should have 2 hard days and a long run per week, or just 1 hard day and a long run to improve this summer. All the other days except Sunday are easy zone 2 runs BTW. Thanks
I put this video on for a 40 minute 5 mile treadmill session which I was really dreading, but I ending up having a great time. The video and your words helped me stay mindful and present instead of just wishing my 40 minutes were up. Love your videos Brock, hope you know how much of an impact you have on aspiring runners like myself (entering freshman year of college). Also, I mess with your music taste big time! Would love to know what songs you used in this video
I’ve had training blocks where I worried way too much about all the data! I think it’s definitely useful to see your overall growth, but you can’t obsess over it. You’ll drive yourself nuts🤪
I fell into that trap a little while ago, and it sucked. Every run you feel like you’re doing something wrong, and it sucks the joy out of it. Now every morning before I go out and run I tell my self “if the heart rate is high, or I feel rough, oh well keep going” and now my runs are enjoyable
Intense one! But really fits the theme and importance of the message. You may say that you aren’t an artist, but I think you are when it comes to words and videos 😊
Good info great editing if the video but the audio of your voice is significantly more quiet than the music and is being drowned out in several spots. When editing audio it's important to listen to it both thru speakers AND headphones so u can better balance it for all audiences
@@papasalvo yeah, RU-vid usually messes up the audio as well when I upload. It’s one of the reasons I stopped uploading The Daily Mile to shorts during the first season
Great information, I have been getting in summer mileage and I definitely was pushing myself all June and did about zero easy runs because I was so obsessed about what my watch said. Now this month I am listening to my body and actually taking time to do lots of easy runs to recover from last month, and it's going great so far. Thanks for your help in the running community, very appreciated 👍♥️.
hey brock - were you feeling pain in your body or just wasn’t feeling the run today? would you push through even if you felt a little pain to meet the goal you set? thanks for the video! love your wisdom.
@@Anon-234 usually stop and get water after 8-10 miles and sometimes earlier. I don’t think it’s going to hurt you if you do, especially in the summer. Just get the mileage in and keep moving forward
