She was not ready!! Dont rush it!! Everything at its own time. If she cant canter a jump, she shouldn’t be jumping that height. The poor horse has to make a lot of strength that’s why she was lunged over. she has to canter first omg!

I’m highly confused by what you mean rn? Sophie did an excellent job cantering the vertical, which she did multiple times. Pretty sure lots of people can find it hard to stay balanced when a horse refuses, bunny hops or seems like they’re gonna stop but goes anyway. Sophie did an excellent job during that lesson 👏👏👏👏
@graceconnolly5765
@graceconnolly5765 3 года назад
@@emi.hope_8705 I think that she did do a very good job for the most part but she should learn how to canter a jump properly before working on height. once you get a solid foundation it does not matter how high you jump wether it be 6in or 4ft. height doesn't matters its the foundation and riding that does.
@jessicabesseling2516
@jessicabesseling2516 3 года назад
I agree with you. Sofie kept bouncing constantly on the horse's back. She did great with the cantering but it took me a year or two to even learn how to jump. They shouldn't rush it like that. It's dangerous for the horse and Sofie.

I’m not hating on y’all! I’m just saying that she probably should have done the jump again after falling 🙁 I know she is a little nervous after a fall, every one is it’s OK, but at least do the jump another day. Sometimes after a fall at the jump a horse might think “oh, my rider fell off and doesn’t want to do it again.” So just be careful with stuff like that ☺️ But GREAT JOB SOFIA🥳🤩

At my barn, you’re supposed to be able to walk, trot, and canter without stirrups, be able to circle at all gaits without stirrups, bend correctly, and know what trot diagonal and canter lead you’re on before you can start jumping more than a cross rail.

sometimes when you have a good jump, you just have to call it a day! Though I think it will be really beneficial for Soph to see WHY she fell. Anticipating the jump, weight thrown forward onto the front end caused the choppy takeoff distance. Finn was a saint to even jump that at all 🤣👏🏻 Glad she got back on and was fine!

It might not be best watching the lessons all the time my mum made a table up for us that 1 lesson she would watch and the next she wouldn't or she would stay for only half of it as it increases the independence of the kids. That jump was not 2,6 it looked more like 2 or 2,3. If you go to a small competition and you think you are able to jump a certain hight and it isn't correct then you will get nervous and might not go which can lead to embarresment and you should continue working or leg strength, posture and confidence before you go to jumps or normal sized jumps. In my lessons you have to know how to walk trot and canter without stirrups and if you confidence needed and extra boost you would work on bareback walk trot and canter before you went on to nice sized jumps. I am 12 years old and teaching my 2 year old thoroughbred how to jump and I need to know all of this to teach him, he is flying over nicely sized cross poles after only 6 months of having him. I honestly do recommend you do a lot more of groundwork. Hacks are also good as they stimulate you horse and its a change off scenery, even if you go on hacks already I would try to go on a bareback hack after most lessons for a nice cool down.

@caseyscattle
@caseyscattle 3 года назад
Her confidence has gotten so much better. He just had to take a weird jump because of the height and him going to it at a trot, once the jumps start getting bigger she will have to start cantering them to make them easier. He's such a good boy to still put in the effort to jump it though, our Morgan mare will jump anything you point her to if she trusts you enough but at that height she would just refuse or do a drive by if I approach at a trot because she knows the jump would be hard for both of us at a trot. It's amazing that she actually did the jump but she should really try to start approaching ones at that height at a canter, it makes the jump so much smoother and when she is on Finn he seems to be under control. Maybe have her start approaching the 2'0 and 2'3 jumps at a canter so she can build up her confidence with cantering verticals and work out any issues that her an Finn may have with it then start trying the 2'6 when she is confident enough to canter it. Obviously he can trot the jumps but if she wants to continue trotting to jumps at that height just make sure she starts preparing more for weird jumps like what happened in the video, with the lack of forward momentum they need a different way to get enough force to clear the jump and sometime that requires to do a jump like that where they almost stop then try to jump over it like a deer.

I’m so proud of Sophie to try the higher jump and to be brave tog get back up after a fall. When she jump the 2.3-2.4 feet jump you can se that she has really improving. It’s harder to jump in a trot to a high jump and it’a easier to be left behind, because the horse often uses more power to jump in the trot. Sophie is really becoming a good rider, I think that she need to train her balance more and sitting in the canter. Because when she master that she will have better balance to stay on even when she gets left behind or if the horse takes a long. Doing bounce (I think it’s was the way you called it when you put up jumps close to each other.) is a really good way to train balance and rhythm over the jumps. I fell of my horse when he took a little extra canter step in front of the oxer and he just used so much power in the jump and i thought he was stopping, I flew right in the air and back on him and then down the side to land on my stomach, I was okey. Got it on film at least and it’s on my RU-vid. 😅 Sophie you are amazing just the way you are, and if you keep trying new things and things that might get you out of your comfort zones, you will see that you can do more than you think even if it sometimes gets hard, it’s just the way it goes and at some point the harder things will get easier if you keep trying. ❤️
