Sorry, Mom. I love you (:

Check out Ryan's Incredible channel- I know you'll enjoy his films: ‪@RyanNgFilms‬
7:28am - January 3rd, 2022 - Happy new year!
A few months ago I was invited to an event in Doha, Qatar about the future of education. I somehow convinced the team organizing the event to add in a 6-day layover in Istanbul Turkey so that we could turn the trip into more of an adventure. So, I invited my friend Ryan and we set out in hopes of an unusual experience with a bit of optimism in our hearts.
Rumeysa and Eray are the two kindest people I have ever met. Before I go into anything else, I want to give them another big thank you. You made us feel more than welcomed and we are forever grateful for the incredible time we shared together.
8:03 am. I have a bit of writer's block right now. I wanted to write out a longer description, so I went downstairs to try to make some Matcha for the first time, but that failed miserably and now I'm sipping on some sour grass concoction. The matcha was from Emma Chamberlain's coffee brand and speaking of her, I noticed that I spelled her last name wrong in the subtitles (I'm sorry Emma). I also may have made a few little mistakes here and there, but I spent 3 hours making them so I hope the effort is appreciated.
In general, I'm doing well. I hung out with a friend I hadn't seen in a while the other day and it's made me want to dissect more of my current feelings and emotions on a deeper level. But instead of just writing them down in my journal, I feel more inspired to express how I'm feeling through art. Whether it's through my videos, designing a new collection for Perspectopia, making music, or exploring a new medium, I feel like anything is possible. Heck, I want to design my dream home on the coast of Northern California for fun, I want to design a couch, I want to buy a synth machine and learn the ins and outs of making music. From time to time, I get caught up in the business of everything I'm doing. The numbers, the logistics, and contracts, and formalities, etc. I forget that I didn't start any of this for all of that- of course, I have to find a balance of both, but I notice that it makes me think on more realistic terms. It brings my dreaming self down to earth. This is my gap year though. It's my own world that I've created where I can go anywhere and do anything. I feel damn lucky to be able to say that.
My mind bounces all over the place. One day I'm listening to an interview by Tyler the Creator ( • On Top of a Mountain w... - I highly recommend the listen) and I feel like I can do anything. Other days, my mind feels fried and I struggle to make any progress with editing. Maybe that's okay. I'm only 18. I have so much more to explore, learn, and do. But sometimes I feel like I should feel different in the position that I'm in. I forget how many opportunities I have, but knowing that doesn't help. It stresses me out more. It makes me second guess my decisions and my intuition which I don't like. With that said, I've been talking a lot with my friend Ryan and it's helping me move forwards. He keeps me in check and keeps me creating, doing, and taking one step at a time. I'm just trying to be kinder towards myself.
I think that's all for now. I was going to discuss the video a bit more, but it's 8:27 now and I just want to post and video and get to work on the next one.
Life is a work in progress.
Feel free to check in with yourself in the comments. (:

I am from Turkey and this video made me smile.Especially the way Rumeysa speaks English is so freaking cute! Thanks for giving a chance to our beautiful country and beautiful people. There are good and bad people in everyplace, everycountry and everywhere you go.There is a saying in Turkish " Beş parmağın beşide bir değildir." means that all of 5 fingers are not the same.We use this proverb to imply that it is not fair to judge anything immediately without giving a chance to consider it properly.Hope to see you again in our country and have a chance to host you.Good luck with your next journeys!

As a Turkish person, I'm so sad that my beautiful country looks "dangerous" for you. Just, you should know, half of Turkish society hates our government and these bad deals about our government. Turks are really polite and hospitable people. And, unfortunately, everything is cheap, you guys. Turkey is bad if you're Turkish citizenship, not a tourist. I am in NB, Canada, now for my exchange year. I can see the perspective to my country, and believe me, it is pretty sad :( I am glad to see you in Turkey when you're enjoying it. I hope we will get rid of the government.

Seeing you guys having fun in Turkey, Istanbul is a unique thing. But even though you guys had fun and try to express Istanbul in a right and positive way, this trip and video could be much more informing and beneficial for people who really have a curiosity and desire to visit Turkey, especially to Istanbul. As a Turkish student in the States, I can say that everyone is identifying Turkish people by their hospitality, and seeing you guys having the same thoughts is nice, but even if you didn't do it on purpose, you guys made Istanbul look like a far eastern country or African country (in a financial way and in socially) . For example you said the hotel is $36 but that hotel room must be a very average one. That means you can find a room for $500/night in any Bosphorus themed palace hotel. And also, the place you guys ate was a very under average place. You guys should've been in a splendid kebab/food place or a restaurant and 've recorded there. Because Turkish food culture is probably the richest food culture in the world and shouldn’t have been monitored in that cheap way. Turkey is the center of the world and is home to one of the first established civilizations in the world. Istanbul also has historical sights in it. For example, you should have visited "Hagia Sophia mosque", "Blue mosque" and much more. I hope and I believe one day we will become such a country that people visit Turkey not because our currency is cheap, but to see our unique beauties.

you continually inspire me max, even your past self. I feel like I'm about to take a leap on my gap year, and I'm really nervous, but watching your videos reassures me that anything is possible. the quote your mom mentioned in the previous video... “I think you don’t want to be inert right? You might not be sure of what you want, and that’s okay because our desires will change throughout our life, so you might want to do something now that’s really meaningful and then in five years it changes, and I think that’s okay, it’s not like you have to find your lives’ passion right away, you just have to let it come to you too. But I also think, sometimes you just need to start acting. Sometimes moving helps, just try something, go to a place you’ve never been. Get a little uncomfortable, see how you sit with it. You don’t know, until you try something", really resonates right about now :)

Hey Max, I really enjoyed this video of yours, as it seems like you enjoyed creating it as well. I think it's a nice concept to travel to another countries and live with your subscribers for a couple of days! It builds trust and a stronger sense of intimacy in the community. I understand that the destinations you choose are not entirely based on your liking and there are more factors influencing the final desicion, but consider flying to Greece some time, maybe in spring or summer. It has breathtaking landscapes, diversity, historical interest and our food is as good as the Turkish. We view hospitality by no means as a chore, rather as a virtue. Strangers are a blessing and I'm not exaggerating. I hope I convinced you to come and you won't regret it! It's an ideal destination that can satisfy any kind of visitor :)

I visited Turkey with my parents ten years ago (can't believe it's been so long!). We stayed in Istanbul for a while, exploring the mosques, old Roman ruins, the intricate markets, having Turkish tea (chef's kiss), eating Turkish delicacies, and watching the Sufi dancers. We then travelled to Cappadocia, going on tours through their unique mountain housing, and did a once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon ride over the region. We even found this old church from centuries ago, nestled in forestry, and met this old woman who had been maintaining it for years. I will say this: Turkey is one of the most beautiful and amazing countries in the world. Its people are extraordinarily kind and giving, and I'm glad you had a blast there. I'd even add that living in India for 10+ years, Turkey's cultural richness has a lot of parallels to India!

I think it's the best way to see the world, and get familiar with foreign cultures. Your video made my stomach explode with butterflies of all the memories you brought up in me:D Greetings!!:))

The media, as well as the internet, are completely deceiving. I am a Turkish national living in the United Kingdom. I've been here for the past two years. The city where I am staying currently has a population of around 100,000 people. Before coming here, I lived in Istanbul, which has a population of almost 20 million people. In terms of my own experiences, I believe Turkey is a more amazing and safer location than here. I'm not used to being among others, and I feel awkward and out of place. If I asked a stranger for assistance in Turkey, they would gladly assist me without expecting anything in return. People here are really diverse. I met a few Americans who live here. They are more sincere than the folks here, in my opinion. Last but not least, while Turkey's economy has suffered in recent years, I believe Turkey is one of the most beautiful and safe nations in the world to visit.

It is really sad that they show Turkey as such a dangerous and bad place in the news. Bad things happen all over the world. I hope that the next time you come to Turkey, you will visit more cities and get to know the culture and people better. ... for your visit "Teşekkürler" 😄

it was an incredible vlog. especially for me who really loves to travel the world.I just wanted to tell u sth(if u read this though).i know there is a lot hate and negative comments on Iran but it's totally different from what u think. I'm Iranian ... .and I lived here for all of my life . seeing that one of my favorite RU-vidr is talking about Iran made me so happy for a sec but when u said that you are scared of Iran and the people I understood that there is a lot u don't know :( .just like the thing u said about Turkey, its sooo different from what u watch on tv . i know it's hard to believe but we are warm and kind people who welcome our guests (u can watch the vlogs of visiting Iran too :)).there is no war or killing people too actually we are just living our lives.=)) i love you and your courage for doing new things .u deserve everything. keep experiencing and ill keep supporting

To be honest as a Turkish i didn't find this vid funny but it is really sincerely and natural. You can find someone you already met before and tasting luxery in istanbul cause it's really cheap in this situation but you didn't. And seeing in this objective how my country looks like nevermind i don't want to talk about it, it is really hurt me thank you guys for made this honestly.
