I have only tried Turkish Delight once, during university. I was taking a course called "The Bible and the Arts" and we read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...so naturally our professor brought in Turkish Delight for the class to sample.
I knew that too! I read the book when I was 8 & my favourite teacher recommended it to me & after that I read The Midwich Cuckoos! Brilliant book & I love to read so much 🥰
Good job! I’m Turkish and I never thought that “Lokum” could be made at home 😂 Btw, there’s some fillings you could try like hazelnut or pistachio (a.k.a the original lokum) Have fun and keep us updated please! 🎉
When I was a child I watched a children’s play of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” And in the play they actually had a fake turkey dinner on a platter, because everyone, including the director of the children’s play apparently, thought it was “turkey delight.” 😂
In Washington State, with our world-renowned fruit orchards, we're famous for a similar type of confection called "Applets & Cotlets" Made with apple or apricot and walnuts. They're INSANELY delicious... If you like Turkish delight, you'd probably love them.
I always think of applets and Cotlets when I see people enjoying Turkish delight! I tried Turkish delight for the first time when I lived in England and then when I went to Cyprus on holiday and I absolutely loved it but I also grew up on Applet’s and Cotlets living in Washington most of my life so it’s similar but definitely unique and distinct! 😋
I got hooked on those in the Army. My LT was from Tacoma and had me try them. Fast-forward 32 years later and my husband is now just as addicted as me. I bought 5 of the largest boxes before Thanksgiving. My husband got one box (which he promptly hid from me!) and I ate the other 4…in 3 days!
I grew up not far from there and went on the tour a few times. My mouth waters at the thought. Raspberry fruit festives were my favorite but they’re all AMAZING. I’ve tried Turkish Delights too-just a few years ago and I love it as well but in my mind they’re two different things just because of my nostalgia for Aplets and Cotlets.
Ooh, Aplets & Cotlets!! I haven’t had them in years! I remember having them for the first time as a child at the World’s Fair in Canada. I thought they were heavenly.
looks great, nice job. I tell my daughter that Turkish delight is the grandpa of todays' Haribo :) As an American-turkish person I also prefer it with lots of nuts, especially pistachios, hazelnuts etc. Hope to make it one day with the help of your video.
I love any kind of Turkish Delight, chocolate covered or the authentic stuff, the Rose and Lemon flavours are my fave, you did so well Tigga, I'm far too lazy, I'll just sit here and watch your marvellous creations, I usually hate voice-overs, they are so fake, bur yours was funny 😁 😋
I always watch you videos and marvel at how professional they come off. I wonder who’s doing such a beautiful job filming. But today I got to see you in all your silliness. You are younger than my kids so I find it aisle when you get flustered. Big Hugs all around!🧸❤️ from across the pond.
O my mouth is watering, could smell and taste it , just watching you create this masterpiece … I loooove Turkish Delight. I am so glad I had real good Turkish Delight my first time . Some people get the bad made ones and think thats how it tastes like… I’ve had bad one’s too , now I finally got the right brands and wow.🇿🇦🌹🍋
A local version of Turkish delight is one of my state’s classic gift items for some reason (I’m assuming it’s just because we have a lot of apple and apricot orchards). They’re called aplets and cotlets, and they’re sold in all of the state-themed stores and kiosks at malls and the airport lol. I don’t know anyone who casually buys them, but they used to be given as gifts somewhat frequently when I was growing up.
Just want to wish you a happy birthday today on December 25th 2022. I watched your video on your birthday tree and wrote a little message about my birthday and how my experience is not the same as yours for have a Birthday close to Christmas. I believe your parents made it very clear the difference between Christmas and your birthday. You grew up knowing the difference and feeling they made it important to celebrate. Good for your parents by the way.
Turkish delights are available at any local Arab, desi, or Muslim market. Every halal meatshop would typically have it because they usually have a grocery section (just call beforehand and ask)
I made it for the first time a few weeks ago. A rose water one and orange blossom one. It was easy but time consuming!! I also thought I didn't like turkish delight based on a chocolate bar (big turk). I made my batches for the senior residence at my place of work.
For anyone who would prefer to just order some online… there is a company in the Pacific Northwest USA called Liberty Orchards that makes what is basically Turkish delight, called aplets and cotlets. My dad used to send me some for Christmas when he lived in Seattle.
I did a factory tour there a few years back and it was amazing! I was raised on this stuff 😁. I'm not sure if they still do factory tours but it was definitely worth going to!
First time I ever heard of Turkish Delight was when I read, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." I literally thought it was chunks of turkey but couldn't understand why Edmund was so excited to eat it. Lol!
There's this dessert in India called bombay halwa. Exact same process, just instead of rose flavour, you use cardamom seed powder and you add ghee into it. Also, this one looks like it had the texture of jelly. Bombay halwa, on the other hand, is cooked continuously while stirring to the point that it becomes chewy instead of jelly like. You can also add watermelon seeds into it. I love the texture so much. Its almost like rubber.
Omg! I love Turkish delight! When my mom read Narnia to us and read the part about Turkish delight we both wanted to have it! It is delicious and tastes like rose wich rose is my favorite! I’ve never tried to make it before but the process looks really fun!
OMG! I just found you channel and loved it from the second I watched your first video! I lived in AUS for a while and been missing that Aussie accent so much and it's so much fun to listen to you and see your amazing creations! So of course I had to leave an Abo 🤩🤩
It definitely looked like y'all were having a blast making that! I've never heard of Turkish Delights, but your video here has sold me on them. I hope sometime I get a chance to try them!
I have definitely done the "how hard can it be?" thing 😂 specifically with marshmallows. Also I didn't know Turkish delight would be so jiggly! Well done first try😊
I would say to anyone who has tried commercial“Turkish delight” and didn’t like it, and has thus decided that it’s not for them, to try “traditional” lokum. As you can see from this recipe, real lokum is made in an entirely different way to the weirdly textured, violently coloured commercial stuff that is usually made with gelatine, and is more like a gummy bear. Real lokum has no gelatine, and has a unique tender bite, and melt in your mouth texture. In fact lokum used to be used to soothe a sore throat. Lemon is probably the least confronting flavour, and rose the most traditional.
All this time I thought Turkish Delight was just pink jelly (gelatine) with powdered sugar!!! 😂 🤭 and now I find out it's not. It's basically corn starch. What!! 🤯. Delicious though 😋 😁
I have tried and failed at this so many times trying to recreate some homemade TD a high school acquaintance’s Syrian friend made. It was so exceptionally good and different to the bought kind.
The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe cartoon aired here in the US the 1978 when I was 6. I remember thinking that chocolate cover turkey sounded disgusting. 😂
I love the taste of perfumy soap (except real soap obviously) - anything with a floral flavour is best. I detest caramel, vanilla and sickly white chocolate. I'm wondering if they are opposite ends of a flavour spectrum, so people are either one or the other.
