Randy's finest performance. His smile after he holds that amazing note is priceless. This is Randy's song. Nobody can sing it like he could. Miss you Randy.🥰
That quote made me cry. This song is part of my teenage years, and it is close to my heart. His sensitivity is all through it. His sensitivity touched his fans so deeply. I wish he knew how much his creativity meant to us with his beautiful voice and heartfelt lyrics.
@@rickygoodman1294Randy wanted out of that life. He worked with Henley and Frey even after quitting Eagles. Things are exaggerated and perpetuated by media.
and this is the song that basically made him quit the band...he was terrified singing it live because he had to to to the very edge of his range and they demanded him to sing it at every show because folks loved it.
@@bodhisfattva7462 You can see the relief on his face at the end of that last high note. He nailed it and held it. He knew it and the crowd knew it. This was one of the highlights of this show, at the Capital Center in Landover MD.
WOW. I so totally envy you. I'm a law bloomer here. I heard all these songs thru the 70's, but was so busy raising kids, going to college, etc. Never really got in to this until later. How much I regret that❤
The amazing thing is, on the documentary they say that Randy didn't want to perform this song live, because it is so high pitched and difficult... the rest of the band encouraged it 'to the limit'... then he did it... and this is the result, on the video you can see the other members of the band looking happy and the "told you" look through the song... masterpiece
Randy didn't like the spotlight on him...a bit shy. Joe was correct, Randy just never realized, how charismatic and good, his voice really was. I hope he was happy...a beautiful soul.
True story: I was living in the D.C. area in 1971 when I turned 21. A group of my friends took me out to a club on US 1 in Northern Virginia to celebrate. There was a small stage area and a banner hung above it with the words "Welcome to the Eagles--direct from L.A." We had never heard of the Eagles then--they hadn't yet released an album. Anyway, as we sat there drinking pitchers of beer and my friends toasting me, the Eagles noticed and asked if it was someone's birthday. Everyone pointed at me, and then they sang Happy Birthday to me. Of course, at the time it didn't mean a lot that a band in a seedy club out on HWY 1 would sing happy birthday to someone. That changed when they made it big and I realized it was the same Eagles. It's quite a memory... And this song is one of my favorites.
@@thechomiji It couldn't have been the Birchmere--that's in the city of Alexandria. This place was south of the Beltway on US 1 towards Mt. Vernon. That I remember.
My mom passed away 5 years ago today. She LOVED this song. We all did. My mom was a singer, so she always sang along to songs she loved but when this song played she would hear the first few notes, say awwwwwww and just close her eyes and listen so intensely. Randy 😇 was that magical! The Eagles were a staple in our home. This reaction video just happened to be on my home page tonight, so of course I pressed play. This ones for you mom 😇. ♥️
Eagles ate the greatest band of all time. Period. No other band had as many single artist that went on to have their own careers. The harmonization of these guys were just incredible.
Yup amazing, Absolutley perfect and undistinguishable from the prior performance. Check out Wings of Pegasus analysis. Henley, at least, is miming to studio track.
There are no bad Eagles songs. This was an ALL-STAR band of amazing artists. That in itself makes sharing the spotlight tough and emotions run high. They pulled it off for many years. There was a case recently over song rights. Politics ruins everything. We had the best of times in the '70s.
This is my favorite Eagle song. When I was a little girl, before car seats were a required thing, I can remember standing on the seat next to my mom, driving her old Thunderbird and belting this song out at the top of my lungs to the radio.
The Eagles are so incredibly talented with a seemingly endless catalogue that some people seem to almost resent them. They have a very real and legitimate claim to the greatest band of all time.
1977 was a great year. I graduated from high school and got married that year. I was blessed to have all the best music come out in my lifetime. The 70's rocked!
Randy Meisner is the bassist/singer for this song. All these fools can sing sing! They harmonize so fantastically, my favorite songs full of them harmonizing are "Seven Bridges Road" and "Take It Easy". I knew as soon as you said "He's hitting some high notes" that you were about to be blown away.
@@janellacleland5393exactly my choices ! I said seven bridges road , but wasted time and desperado are equal to that . Also I don’t care which version of desperado between the eagles and Linda Ronstadt Equally as good as
I've loved Randy for 50 yrs! Since I was 13 yrs old (1974). He's always been my favorite Eagle. Saw them in concert in 1979 2 yrs after this concert video. RIP sweet Randy and sing with your incredible voice with the Angels 😇 ❤️
Not true. Don Felder wrote Victim of Love and was supposed to sing it. Their manager invited him out to a dinner to discuss buisness and Henley recorded the vocals in the studio behind his back. Of course, once Felder heard it, he knew there was no way he could top it, so he let it slide, which is probably what Henley banked on.
For those who are less familiar with the Eagles story this song was their first #1 and a huge fan favorite. Randy Meisner, bass/lead vocal, was always nervous to sing this song, particularly that high note at the end. He had to constantly be heavily persuaded by the other members to do the song every show. In this clip right after he perfectly executes that high note you can see Glenn Frey at the piano looking at him and smiling and signaling to Randy, "way to go man! You nailed it!" while the crowd is cheering. This entire concert is gold.
Something is wrong with today's music when the young want to see the older groups and why can't the musicians see that man the 70's was the bomb in music and movie's, it's just hard to beat it.
Absolutely! Sadly though the pressure from Glen(and maybe Don), made Randy quit less than 6 months later😢, Absolutely never the same without Randy(and Bearnie and fingers Felder), this concert was their pinnacle time to me. And from what I've read, Randy was the sweetest soul you'd ever meet✌️
Bro, that Wings of Pegasus dude is FIRE. He deep dives into the technical aspect of the music. He goes through this song by isolating the vocals. It's sick!
Just watched them last night in Manchester, UK and Don Henley said, no confetti, no fireworks, no twerking we’re just some guys with guitars playing music. Honestly one of the best concerts I’ve been too. Utterly brilliant ❤
Randy absolutely nailed this performance. At the end, I love when Felder gives Randy the "V" for victory fingers!! "Lyin Eyes" from this same concert is also an amazing performance.
You must not have attended a Queen concert. The Eagles are definitely a fantastic live band, but the best live concert I ever attended was Queen! I’m 77
I saw them on their fair well tour like 25 yrs ago but this time they probably mean it. Great band in the early days maybe even one of the best. After Hotel California they went way too poppy and lost most of the folksy harmonies that made them great.
I had the privilege "to see them when "Hell Froze Over" in 1995 and again in 2001 at the Rose Garden in Portland. Every song was performed to perfection. If not for the audience you'd think it was a studio track. Having been an Eagles fan from the Stone Ponies on through my youth it was touching to see them perform. I was blessed.
I saw them for that tour here in Florida too ! Previously, I had seen Don Henley in concert n loved it. I had wanted to see the Eagles since I was a kid n finally did ! My goodness, the talent !
I was a ninth-grader at Cheyenne Mountain Jr. High School when I saw The Eagles at Mile High Stadium in 1976. Linda Ronstadt and Pure Prarie League were the opening acts. No doubt the best concert I’ve ever seen. It was a glorious age of music to grow up with. It’s so good to see the younger generation appreciate and breathe life into these treasures!
@@MariaJobson769 I went to the Junior High and High School. Back then (class of '80) junior high was grade 7-9. They still call it Junior High today and not middle school, as it is just grades 7-8, with 9th grade having been moved up Cresta Rd. to the High School.
Little River Band we’re a great band that used harmonies in their most popular song. I think that the Eagles actually had them as a backup band and they gave them a run for their money when it came to harmonising.
This is my favorite Eagles song. It's a great song. I'm so excited for BP to hear Randy. RIP Randy Meisner BTW this the same concert as Hotel California
@@hk45c62 miley is the daughter of c& w singer, billy ray cyrus & her godmother is dolly parton! among other songs she has covered in her own rock style are, 'nothing else matters', 'black dog', 'rebel yell', 'zombie', 'wish you were here' & heart of glass'!!!
Imagine that without Linda Ronstadt we would never have gotten the Eagles. One of the most consistently superb bands for decades. Such an amazing amount of talent up on that stage it's crazy.
I agree---for harmony, "Seven Bridges Road" will absolutely blow your mind. For some great lyrics (Jackson Browne helped Glenn Frey finish them) check out "Take It Easy"....the Eagles rabbit hole runs deep, and their Greatest Hits CDs are among the best selling of all time for that reason---packed with hit after hit. I envy your getting to discover these songs for the first time---I loved growing up hearing them for the first time on the radio, so much so we kept a tape recorder loaded and ready to record them off the radio so we could hear them whenever we wanted (I was too young to work to buy the cassettes myself yet)...
Absolutely any song by the Eagles is amazing. I highly recommend you listen to wasted time. Don Henley sings lead vocals, and he is the drummer. Every single member of this band has incredible vocals.
@@hk45c62 According to The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), The Eagles Greatest Hits album is now certified 38x platinum, making it the best selling album of all time by a group. Google it.
Can a vocal tone possibly get any more beautiful than that? Randy Meisner sang lead vocal on this song and it needs to be in EVERYBODY'S play list. Randy recently passed away on July 26, 2023, he was 77 years old......RIP Randy Meisner and TY for the music you gifted to us. One helluva reaction, TY.
Not just that they're playing well together - but look at their SMILES. They're LOVING what they do. They know the crowd is waiting for those high notes from Randy and they know he's gonna deliver.
This was the lineup we grew up with. They have fewer so-so songs than most performers have hits. I first saw them in the early 70’s and last saw them in 2019. Different lineup the last time, but the quality was still impeccable !!❤❤❤
The best thing You can do to fully understand and appreciate The Eagles is to listen to all of their songs. I’m gonna be 62 in July and I still crank up The Eagles. No one will ever be able to compete with them They were and Always Be The Best. Just My Opinion 🎶🌹💕♥️🎶
This is my favorite song by The Eagles, bar none. Honestly, it's the first song I ever learned all the words to. Randy Meisner's voice just touches my heart.
My mom used to put me in my car seat, set me near the 4-ways, and play this entire album when I was little. I'd fall asleep and was the happiest child...never fussy much. My mom often sang songs like this to my sister and I as lullabies at night. I absolutely cherish all of these memories. I will always love the Eagles.
The thing that I love about these guys is that they were a REAL group. There were no lead singers because they all sing lead. Another group like this is Fleetwood Mac - another one of my favorites
1980, Imagine, the Eagles were the first concert I saw with a 10 dollar ticket. Seen so many great bands for less than 10 bucks and now it was 10 bucks to see the Eagles. What would it cost to see them now? The video your reacting too is amazing and I bet it was an 8 dollar ticket at most. lol The good ol days.
@@strettoasino9006I came close to seeing them for free! Lol They came to my university (we were the Eagles!) and I saw them on a $2.00 student ticket! 👍😁🦅
Zep for less than $10 ( but that was '74 or 5), Boston for $7, Heart for 5. Most I ever spent in the 70's was $15 for the Bee Gees in '79... but HEY it was the Bee Gees 😃
Saw the Hell Freezes Over tour in B’ham AL paid 200$ and for not the greatest seats, but it was the best concert I have ever been to and I have seen many great concerts! Love these guys!
Back in the day, I would wear out an Eagles' album every few months! I saw them perform every chance I got on my very limited income! I made some wonderful memories!
All you need to know about The Eagles. They were angry at each other during what would be their last concert for 1979. They broke up. During the 80's, all of their songs would still be played on the radio and got lots of attention, keeping the band's popularity extremely high. They did a reunion tour in 1994 for their new album, "Hell freezes over", and were together ever since. That is how good they are.
When asked if they would ever get back together, I believe it was Don Henley who replied, "When Hell freezes over." Hence the name of their reunion album.
The Hell Freezes Over tour was named so because when they broke up and were asked if they would ever get back together, they said, " When hell freezes over." Or so the story goes.
I have no problem at all with React videos. It's cultivating interest in great music from the past. I love seeing the younger generation enjoy this music!
In 1975 this song became a forever top 10 for an 8 year old insecure traumatized girl. My grandma, big sis and I relocated from B.C. to Andros Island, Bahamas(long drive). Mostly locals, land, only 2 hotels and we lived in 1 of them. Small local band sang this song everynight for closing. Big sis caught a crush and plenty of kisses. The band let me sing along encouraging me and I finally found something I could do. SINGING HARMONIZING heals the heart and soul!!!! LOVE THE EAGLES
The beauty of the Eagles was their diversity of musical talent. They always picked the right singer for the song in hand. It’s pretty rare to have more than one talented singer in a band. To have 4-6 singers (depending on the lineup at any particular time) made them truly special.
