That’s legitimately the same amount I watched it as well! Three times in color and the fourth time in black-and-white. I would watch it even a fifth time if they re-release it in theaters.
@@MACKOS_lol I seriously cannot get over this movie, it’s been living rent free in my mind ever since it came to American theaters. Please Toho I need this movie on Blu Ray! I currently own physical copy of every mainline Godzilla film from 1954 all the way to GvK (Showa to Reiwa) and I just need Minus 1 and GxK to complete my current collection.
The reason Noriko was standing still in 28:52 Is because of the fact that Godzilla attacking Ginza and everyone running and screaming in fear as buildings and debris fell from the sky reminded her of the raid bombings from the War Essentially causing her to have PTSD.
Shock is also likely. Not just from the train damage and drop into the water, but from seeing A GIANT LIZARD MONSTER ATTACKING THE CITY. Most of us would have a bit of a brain short circuit after fight or flight wore off.
Yeah nah, like the plan to kill Godzilla in this movie is like the best one ever. Like the man said, ocean pressure at like a mile down below sea level is INSANE. The reason animals like Sperm whales can do that is because they don't do it quickly and they all but dump all the oxygen in their lungs, or they would get crushed. And then, the plan to drag it back up is good because once an animal is down that far, if they go back up again really quick, they'll basically explode because to survive the pressure down there their internal pressure needs to match the external pressure of the surrounding water, which means that if the surrounding water suddenly becomes far less pressurized, the internal pressure of the animal would basically blow them up like a balloon. So when Godzilla is taken down to the bottom of the sea you can see man is STUNNED because the pressure is so great, and then when he gets dragged back up again, you can see man's eyes are popping out of his head and his scales are falling off because he's bloating. The only reason the plan didn't work is because they underestimated just how tough it was.
He also chewed through the wire which allowed him to settle at a depth for a few minutes. It wasn't enough to mitigate all the damage he received, but it did give him time for his body to start adapting to the pressure and slowly repair some of the damage.
An estimate value of 3,000 yen during WWII would potentially be around a couple hundred dollars/pounds. This can change substantially due to exchange rates, economic stability, wartime inflation, post-war reconstruction efforts, and overall volatile economic conditions.
@@arcanevi4477 Don tends to overlook these seemingly "obvious" things. I'm fairly certain he makes these mistakes and misjudgments on purpose. By doing so he gets many people to comment on his mistakes, like this one right here.
Most incarnations of Godzilla have regeneration like Heisei, Millennium, Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth, Godzilla Ultima, even Monsterverse Godzilla has regeneration. But their regeneration is usually slow and we don't see openly on screen.
Millennium, heisei, minus one and ultima are the only kaiju with the fastest/best regeneration. Shin's regen takes hours to even from an eyeball, mv not sure but dominion kinda proves he'll heal in hours.
7:25 You gotta think about how she's feeling broski Her family & neighbors have all died, her home is in ruins, & while she's in the middle of that grief, someone who was meant to die *protecting* the country from tragedies like this just shows up alive? Of course she's gonna lash out
@@Nitric_Beyond War sucks like that. Most of the time, someone giving the order to leave the trench and cross no man's land might as well be saying; "Get out of this hole in the mud and die halfway across the field of mud." "But my death will have meaning, though, right?" "Statistically? No. I'll give this same order a hundred times, and the front won't change more than a foot or two." "...I'd rather stay in the mud hole and be killed for disobeying an order so I won't die tired, thanks." Fun for the whole family!
Not to mention... probably considering the lack of studies on mental health and stuff, Everyone handled grief, etc poorly. No help either. So, probably, quite naturally, lashing out and blame games we're common.
Also wanted to point out, the director said if TOHO gets him to do a sequel, he feels like he HAS to add another monster to the film. So if Minus One gets a sequel, we will get to see this version of Godzilla fight something.
if minus one references godzilla 1954, then the sequel MUST reference godzilla raids again, because even because goji 1954 died from the oxygen destoyer, he somehow lived in godzilla raids again, and because thats the movie after godzilla 1954, then the sequel must be related to raids again, with anguirus.
There's so much that makes this arguably the best Godzilla movie. I love the original, and I was blown away by Shin Godzilla and felt that nothing could top it at the time, but this one really got under my skin. In Hollywood blockbusters nowadays they claim 'it's about family' or 'it's about the friends we made along the way' but aside from running from green-screen set-piece to set-piece the characters rarely share any genuine emotion or moments. (There's a few honourable exceptions, sure.) In Godzilla Minus One you grow to deeply care about this post-war family growing together out of the shattered ruins. Tokyo lost over 100,000 people in one night of the fire-bombings, and the film is a sobering reminder that a lot of 'families' weren't related but were survivors trying to piece their lives back together and beginning new ones. I honestly feel that this film could have gone on being a post-war family story without Godzilla showing up, and I would have loved it. But Godzilla does show up. And because we love and care for the people (and the people of Tokyo are all sharing in this same story) we grow to fear and hate the impossible, near-malevolent unnatural force that crashes into their lives. I've never hated Godzilla until this movie. Shin made me a little in awe of him at points, but this one, this one I truly dreaded the big monster appearing. I'd hope this next appearance would be delayed each time, that things would get better for the characters. As I usually want to see big monsters stomping on things in movies, this was something of a unique experience where I actively didn't want Godzilla to show up. I just wanted him to leave them all alone. It's the most emotional Godzilla movie for me and it's actually about something, which all great monster movies are. That being said though go check out 'Destroy All Monsters', the big monster-mash wrestlemania face-off from the original series of movies featuring a whole host of Kaiju escaping from 'Monster Island' ("Don't worry, it's just a name!"). I loved it as a kid and it's still goofy fun.
Destroy All Monsters was also my favorite as a kid ('cause it had all the monsters). JUST finished watching G-1.0, ( by the way, shouldn't this be called "Godzilla One Point O"?) it was great!
Those Warships on the movie are real ships that survive the war. The one that Goji stomps and get blast in the face was IJN Takao. She is the largest Heavy Cruiser in the world (no, Alaska is a Battlecruiser), she armed with 10 203mm guns and carries 8 sides of 610mm Type 93 Torpedoes. It is also the most heavily armed cruiser at the time before Alaska Class. The other two that participated to defeat Goji are IJN Yukikaze and IJN Hibiki. Yukikaze have a reputation of “Lucky Ship” she participated in many WWII campaigns that should’ve be her down fall, but she survives every single time. Fun Fact. After the war Yukikaze was take by The Chinese and she still has her luck, as Yukikaze is the reason why Taiwan is Taiwan today. Hibiki was taken by the soviets. Which kinda funny if you look at Minus One. They defeat Goji by pure Luck of Yukikaze. I find the movie to be a bit funny that US are scared of USSR than a Radio Active Lizard that can perform Fallout Series if it wanted to.
Tbf us more focused on soviets due of ideologies than those stuff. Plus Japs should be luky bc us still hav a nuke left but they blow it off at bikini atoll.
Fun fact: Takashi Yamazaki the director of this film is a big fan of Godzilla, he also featured Godzilla as cameo in "Always: Sunset on Third Street" on 2005 and he is the director of "Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle" which have same design for Godzilla in this film
This is legitimately my favourite movie ever. I know that’s weird to say about a Goji movie, but it’s the truth. The characters are amazing, the music is beautiful, Goji is absolutely terrifying… except his arms are kinda goofy. Aside from that one incredibly nitpicky thing, this movie is absolutely perfect.
This movie was originally in color, but a black and white version has been released. In Japanese culture, "death before dishonor" was a serious credo. And kamikaze pilots were volunteers. Shikishima swore an oath to die for his country, but he was too afraid. It wasn't him his neighbor was specifically angry at, but all the "cowards" like him she blamed for Japan losing.
the black thing on her at the end was radiation damage being that long inside a radiated area will cause damage like that (we dont know when exactly they found her so she could have been under the rocks and bricks for a few days or even weeks if she found water and food which would also be radiated)
18:38 Yes, that was the exact implication to their reactions, and this same social view on failed kamikaze pilots plays a big role. His redemption wasn't necessarily based on his own actions, but based on how society around him evolved for the better and learned to forgive him.
@@KingGoji-m1r3 dude why are you still replying a whole day after your first reply. also, i never said anything about the writing. don’t know where you got that from. the special effects in the movie were phenomenal, especially considering budget. i also don’t know why you’re talking about 2021. what does any of this have to do with 2021?
@@iskiiiI brought up the CGI award that Minus One got because y'all are acting like Minus One got an Oscar for being the best movie ever, when in reality it just got the award for its CGI The host of the event or whatever, didn't even let the director pay respects to someone who died That just shows how the Oscars only awarded Minus One for diversity and nothing else
There was a surprisingly well-done 1980s Chewitts sweets stop-motion advert with a giant monster set in London that had one do this, but was then given a giant chewey fruit bar instead and thus the day was saved. You'll find it on RU-vid somewhere.
Fun fact, the director of Godzilla minus one actually based Godzilla's movement and his actions off his own cats. It's true and that's also what the director of Godzilla X Kong did for Godzillas actions too.
the atomic explosion effect is cooler than Oppenheimer's film, if Oppenheimer is the one who made atomic, Japan is more experienced in sfx. Really very experienced, we know
Christopher Nolan didn’t use any effects on his explosion besides camera angles.. he used real TNT to simulate a “large explosion” then he filmed it from certain angles to appear much larger. And Godzilla minus one effects team won the Oscar lol. I like both done the way they were done. Nolan loves using practical effects and a modern Godzilla movie is for sure gonna have effects
So glad your reacting to this because i have been waiting and glad to see you are reacting to it as i never got chance to see in theaters in my small town, very awesome
Its hard to explain, but basically the gas created a wall around godzilla separating him from the water pressure. So he went from zero water pressure on his body to being sunken down to 1500 meters and that pressure hit him instantly instead of it gradually getting heavier as he went down. Thats why his spikes went into his back again the pressure crushed them in. Then bringing him to the surface was like essentially bringing a blob fish up. If youve seen a blob fish in the pictures theyre disgusting flesh blobs. But under water at their depth theyre beautiful fish. The transfer from deep to up at that speed breaks the barrier and breaks their body down. So godzilla breaking the barier of the surface exposed him to the air causing his body to break up
I like how there are two simultaneous versions of Godzilla running. The hero and protector Godzilla is being run by America. The villain, force of nature, destroyer Godzilla is being run by Japan who invented the character.
The coment about "why you are standing there" or "Go, don't stop" is not a real reaction about the trauma of the humand mind, the real reaction is shock, terror and fear.
this was a beautiful story told about Koichi, Noriko and Akiko in the aftermath of WWII and the state it brought Japan down to. Even if Godzilla wasn't in the story at all, it's still a great human interest story, and I would love to see that version!
I saw this for my birthday when it first came out it was all in Japanese and had subtitles but it was worth it I didn’t even look at subtitles great reaction ❤ love ya don keep up the amazing work
This entire movie is pretty much a remake of the 1954 Godzilla and they've done a lot of good callbacks, but the atomic breath was definitely a big surprise for me. And I loved it!!! The music was also fantastic, especially how they remade Godzilla's theme , and to clarify, the director may have said that the mark on the neck is Godzilla cells I am so happy that this movie got an Oscar for visual effects, on that note, you should definitely see the video regarding that 23:21 it's cool. They mentioned that he can heal fast enough to where it looks like. It did absolutely nothing. but as the movies kept progressing, they said that after he heals his body hardens to the point where the damage does absolutely nothing
A good old fashioned Godzilla movie. I love it. I haven't seen the entire thing, but I intend to. Love the old Godzilla design. This is the Godzilla I grew up on. 🥰
Don, even if you can’t make a reaction video, you really should see a Godzilla movie, any one, in theatres if you can. The way his roars shake you down to your bones is chilling.
Okay, Imagine someone tells you there was a movie focused on a kamikaze pilot trying to rebuild his home and life while dealing with his survivors guilt in post war Japan. It already sounds like a fantastic move. Then they say it's a Godzilla movie... I wouldn't have believed it could be this good. It's not just a great movie it's a great Godzilla movie!
Every version of Godzilla seems to have his own gimmick and with the wolverine healing, this one is probably one of the scariest versions 😮😅 I would definitely love to see a sequel to this one
00:54 It may be because they mixed it up with Minus One (1954) which was the original, maybe first, Godzilla movie. Godzilla Minus One (2023) is the remake of the 1954 version.
I am Japanese. As has already been said in other comments, the heroine, Noriko, was alive because she was struck by Godzilla cells that were spewed out along with the rays. The black bruise you saw on Noriko's neck is the part where Godzilla cells were infected. It is said that the director originally planned for him to die, but he wanted him to meet Shikishima, so he changed it to a cross-section arrangement.
49:08 Theory: the splotch on her neck is g cells (godzilla cells) and like in one of the old movies she turns into this big plant monster called biollante and godzilla comes back to life and has to stop her
What i really like is the contrast in the different Godzilla's mentality. Most dont really care about the destruction they cause, it just being a side effect to their existance, but Minus One really goes the extra mile to show that he's the most ruthless monster of them all. Also, by the way if its not been mentioned, 49:05 it was said by the director that she's basically been marked by Godzilla's Cells. What that means is for fans to figure out
ABSOLUTELY PEAK MOVIE, THE BEST OF GODZILLA NO DOUBT. By the way Don, GXK: The New Empire comes out on digital later this month if you didn’t peep already.
at 49:00, the thing on her neck is actually Godzilla's cells, which was confirmed by Takashi Yamazaki in an interview. Apparently, a sound effect was going to be added during that scene, but was removed.
People only talk about the dropping of nukes on Japan. Operation Meetinghouse was arguably just as bad. Firebombing Tokyo had about the same amount of deaths as Hiroshima and was far more brutal. Nuclear blast.. or a city wide 1,800 degree oven and fire storms. I know what i'd choose.
The best thing about this movie is how absolutely everyone loved it, it was made with so much love for the character and some Oscar worthy visual effects, true cinema 🏆🦖
Regarding the Yen conversion, the yen to pound conversion was different back then. In today's equivalent, his sign on pay is equal to about 523 pounds.
44:51 He might've been standing on a continental shelf or a underwater mountain, which is also a common theory for how Godzilla stood in the water in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Or, because of his weight, he could be buoyant and be floating.
The scene 49:08 was the result of the radiation when godzilla blasted his atomic breath, and many other survivors probably have it. Expect a sequel in a while (5-10 years as my prediction)
That black thing on her neck at the end……. That is the reason she survived. Her body became hosts for g cells. Remember when it was said that Godzilla “marked” Tokyo as his territory.
Youve been corrupted by monsterverse to think godzilla is a protector XD original godzilla was always just a mindless monster who only knew destruction
Did a simple conversion of the exchange rates to inflation, in 1946 the exchange rate for JPY to USD was 50 yen to $1, so at 3000 yen thats $60 dollars in 1946, or about $970 in todays money, the job was very high paying for the time
If you ever wanted to watch more godzilla would definitely recommend the orginal 1954 gojira, final wars and the heisei era of movies. All are really good
If someone told you that there was a black and white version of this movie then there referring to godzilla minus one minus color if you want to watch the black and white version you'll have to wait until it comes out on dvd
After they mined godzillas mouth you kept aaying go go go...im just busy looking at the wrecked back of the ship and thinking"...was there a motor on the back before?"
Brother...your reaction was on fire. From 30:02 to 30:34. Atomic fire dude. Only reactors I enjoy this much is Kathateshorrormovies and JenMurray when she gets caught off guard. Damn dude. Many, many thanks!!!!
Noriko totally did a mom move shoving Koichi into the alley before the shockwave hit. She'd clearly fully become Akiko's mother over those two years. Ask any mom about the "mom arm" that she does whenever hitting the brakes in the car a little hard, top stop a child from hitting the dash. :D As for his "standing" in the water I believe his very long tail can be used to maintain buoyancy and keep him upright partly out of the water, like we humans do by distributing our weight when we float on our backs in salt water.
The original Godzilla was a villain. Not acting like a hero like in Legendary films. And Minus One is also made by TOHO (The creators of the first ever Godzilla film)
What I love about this movie is that it perfectly captures Godzilla’s pure hatred for humanity, one of the characteristics of his that has seemingly dwindled over the years. He actively goes out of his way to cause as much destruction and death as possible, as if it’s all deliberate.
Takashi yamazaki is just amazing. Such a fantastic Godzilla movie and my second ToHo Godzilla movie I seen in theaters next to shin Godzilla and I say this is superior. I hope this gets a sequel. 0:56 yes there's a black and white version. Your gonna have to find it on the blue ray when that gets released
