i relate to the suddenly not being a confident speaker thing so much! i live in the uk for a little while right now and i always want to tell people „I‘M ACTUALLY REALLY FUNNY IN GERMAN!“ 😂
You will notice that the German railways tell you what side of the train to get off of with religious devotion. (Ausstieg in Fahrtrichtung rechts / Ausstieg in Fahrtrichtung links) Some Germans sometimes seem slightly helpless and paralysed if they miss the announcement or it wasn’t spoken clearly enough!
Sometimes it could so noisy that could understand and as disable person you must leave train where is only mean to be for entrance because only is elevator.
It's absolutely terrifying when the door doesn't open and absolutely embarrassing if it's because I was on the wrong side 😂 So I'm glad we have those announcements.
It's quite ironic how you're living in my city while I'm studying abroad. This video made me really happy (and a bit homesick)! I hope you enjoy the rest of your time there!
You chose a - special time to come to Munich, seeing as you came shortly before the Wiesn started. You might interpret that as good, you might not, but it’s definitely a time during which Munich is very different than usually. Don’t let Wiesn-Minga (Oktoberfestmünchen) fool you, usually there’s not half as many tourists, people walking around in Tracht (Dirndl & Lederhosen) and usually also not half as much rubbish just lying around. But it’s a great city! Are you going to go to the Oktoberfest?
I've been learning korean for about a year now (college courses and a duolingo tree) and I was super indecisive on whether or not I should go through with an exchange through my university. Watchin you just going over to Germany despite any fear you might have really inspired me on gettin myself together lol, so now I'm going to my school's abroad office tomorrow to talk about it. Good luck in Munich!!
James I highly recommend going to South Korea. I'm not sure how the exchange student life is but, I did live there for two years. 9/10 would definitely move back.(if it didn't cost a flip ton of money.)
@@angelicacarberry2606 I've wanted to do an exchange since around 7th grade (originally for Germany actually lol) so I think I'm definitely going to now !! So cool that you went how was it?
Moving to a foreign country is a brave thing to do that takes leaving your comfort zone. It's a good thing to do :) I live near munich and I'm half american. So feel free to ask questions, should you feel lost and not be in the mood to ask anyone for help face2face. But I'm sure you'll do fine even when you're uncomfortable. Speaking the language, doing things that scare you, this is what you came here to do.
I'm studying at TUM in a few weeks time! Super nervous but this vlog is super helpful, can't wait for the next one! deffo going to find that rooftop cafe.
I know I'm late, but I'm so proud of you for branching out like this! I moved away from my home for 2 months to the french side of Canada (I'm from BC) and it was like I was in a different country and suddenly I had to cook all my own meals and make sure I had enough groceries to keep myself full. Also packing for long term trips is so stressful, like I didn't know what to be prepared for! Luckily I made a group of friends there who are like family to me. So glad to see you've done the same in Europe!
I'm so glad to hear it's going well! I think it was really smart of you to do therapy with someone who speaks English too, not only for the translation bit but also so you know you have at least one person there that you can talk English to when you need a little mental break from speaking German. :)
Bro that’s so fucking cool that you’re doing all this to improve yourself, good for u! Also congrats for your first time at therapy! I just started too!
Evan, Sweet Kiss is my favourite fruit tea! I always stock up on it when I go to Austria. About 10 years ago it used to be called "French Kiss" but clearly they have decided to change the name lol
When we make Schnitzel we call the Semmelbrösel also Paniermehl. Because panieren is the word for covering the meat in the breadcrumbs and Mehl is flour. At least we say that in our Region xD
Munich is a great city. I moved there last October and I am quite happy there. Unfortunately I stay at my parents house for the summer break and will only be in Munich for a few days this month, so there isn't really a chance, I could meet you at all.
Watching this as a German who plans on traveling abroad for a while (possibly) is really interesting because you're seeing it the other way around as I would if that makes sense hahah made me excited but also very nervous for possibly going away myself
I giggled when you pointed at an art museum (Alte Pinakothek) when you thought you were at the Technical Uni. The uni was across the street, so close enough.
Bamberg.
read a cooking book called how to cook everything: the basics it's easy to follow, does not require fancy ingredients and have actual useful tips I'm also learning how to cook and pulling a Julie & Julia scenario where I will try to make every recipe in the book and at the end of it I'll be able to to cook EVERYTHING...I suppose
Since you're living near Ostbahnhof and you have been complaining about the opening hours. The Edeka there is open until 11pm and on Sunday too, because it's a train station.
Ohh yeah... i once was in the process of trying to find that escalator too. Only took me about 15 minutes.... You should visit the art museum that’s basically around the corner from that rooftop café, it’s worth it.
its so crazy that youre living in the part of munich my family visits every year and being so familiar with everything that youre saying and all the surroundings and environment in your video
I'm a German from Munich who's been living in Mumbai, India, for 5 years now. Your video gave me a little bit of 'Heimweh'. Always nice to see the area around the 'Uni' and the 'Blauweißer Himmel'. Enjoy your time! :)
This is so nostalgic. My boyfriend is from Munich so I've been there several times (he was even an active CSU member, lol) and now it's been about a month since we've moved to Berlin together. I'll be watching the rest of these for sure!
I wouldn't. Because it (Wehrpflicht defensive service duty, the type of conscription we had) also caused people to work in social services and we definedly need troops. A general duty for everyone, man and women, would be adviseble with that everyone would have to do at least one year either social work or military service. Both fields of work where we are lacking personel.
This just popped up in my recommended videos. I was in Munich for the first time earlier this year and LOVED it! I went with my boyfriend who speaks no German and most people would automatically speak to me in German and to him in English. I'd definitely say everyone was more friendly there than say, in Berlin. Alles gute!
boi this is such deja vu I'm moving to North Germany later this week and it's so cool to see the different experiences and also strangely calming because it's so similar
Your Instagram stories and vlogs are KILLING me! I miss Germany so so much! But I'm so happy for you! I want to do the same thing 🙂 I think maybe in Freiburg though. This is so exciting. Viel spas!!!
I'm from Munich and moved to Vienna just a week ago to study... Already missing my home town :/ especially the Isar and the Englischer Garten. I wish you a great time in Munich!
Great, exploring a new city is so much fun, especially if you have time to really get to know your way around! Proud of you you found the rooftop bar and also you didn't lose anything ;) Good luck with everything! Life starts at the edge of your comfort zone 😊
I actually loved this so much. It makes me wanna learn some new language and actually follow through. I hope you have an amazing month you’re already doing great ❤️
Here some tips for cooking a Schnitzel. For a good Schnitzel I can recommend topside/top round (Oberschale) of pig or of beef. But you should buy it (if possible) from a butcher rather then from a supermarket...nearly all the time the meat will be both healthier and more tasteful. For the breading (Panade) don't put oil in the egg. Pound the meat before breading it (panieren). You can put stuff like pepper and other spices and herbs in it to flavour it. Nonetheless for your first Schnitzel it looks quite tasty :P
And you shouldn't go to Munich if you want things to be cheaper because the facts that this city is both rich and big makes the living there expensive...obviously XD
Evan, first of all, mac n' cheese pizza is amazing. Second of all, I started learning German with Duolingo the other day, and I'm really enjoying it! Danke!
I also moved to Germany literally on the same day as you (different city)! Suuuper interesting to re-live the experience though it was completely different!
Aw I lived in Munich for my Year Abroad at university working as an English Language Assistant from 2014-2015, miss it so much! You should definitely go for a dander around Bogenhausen (U-Bahn stop Böhmerwaldplatz is the closest but you can walk it from Ostbahnhof if you so wish lol) if you ever feel like heading somewhere a bit quieter within the city, and see all the fancy houses while you're at it lol! There's also a really ice-cream shop across the road from the U-Bahn station there, as well as a lovely little park nearby! Viel Spaß in München, Evan!
Did you grow that orange tree? Awesome, in Florida I have many but outside 😂 good video & Das nächste Mal, wenn Sie in Disney Orange Twist ist auf mich
Don't worry! We germans learn english since elementary school! And therapists are studied people they will surely know english! Also there are therapists for english speakers you just have to look online
The next time you make schnitzel coat it a second time in the egg mixture and semmelbrösel. Then if you gently press the marinade on the meat it gets a lot better. I hope you understood I'm bad in explaining... Hope you have a great time in Bavaria!
Whooop this is so exciting seeing you walk around in my hometown! I really hope you enjoy your time in Munich and achieve what you've set out to do, change and learn. Also: Definitely take a trip to the Alpes, they're so close! Also 2: If you can't understand people and/or don't know words (like Semmelbrösel), it might just be the Bavarian. I'm a native speaker, but not from Bavaria, and occasionally struggle understanding people here. I even ordered "Semmel" at the bakery for first time since moving here in 2016. I just couldn't get myself to say that word because their called "Brötchen" where I'm from 😂
omg i used to eat the pasta pizza ALL THE TIME back when i still ate animal products. its so tasty and actually pretty hard to find. you should definitely try it.
Hi Evan! ich bin von Australien nach Bayern im April umgezogen und ich finde deine Videos klasse! Es ist wirklich toll, dass du etwas so mutig gemacht hast und ich gluabe, dass du eine tolle Erfahrung in Munich haben wirst :) :) Okay enough german haha, my move also isnt permanent but just get ready! once you ask scary bavarians questions and get info you ACTUALLY understand, you feel amazing and every other social interaction feels like a cake walk! You should check out the Ja Mai veitnamese place, Drachenvogel cafe/bar and go watch people surf at the english gardens!! machs gut in Munich :)
Memories 😭😭😭😭 Looks like you're doing well Evan. I'm deffo gonna cook that viennan schnitzel for my housemates soon. Your recipe looks more appetizing than the one I learnt XD Thanks for vlogging ^^
That has absolutly nothing to do with Schnitzel, but at least it tasted good (if we can trust you) (: First you need to butterfly cut the meat to make it a bit thinner. Second you knock it using a hammer to get it even thinner. And the most important point: You need much more oil to really fry it evenly on every side.
Munich looks awesome! I'll live vicariously through you until I get to go one day 😂 hopefully my cousin will still be living there then... #freeaccomidation 👌 Also great to hear you're enjoying therapy! There's so many misconceptions about it which stops people from getting help to live their best life, which is so sad. Good on you Evan!
good that you try to cook yourself. One important advice: a Schnitzel has to "swim in fat" when cooking.. your pan was dry! Not enough fat in it! This is why the breadcrumbs fell off...just try some YT tutorials here and try it again..
I've just started studying abroad in Madrid, I've studied Spanish for years but I feel so insecure when it comes to speaking Spanish too! It's like when I'm practicing in my room I'm absolutely great but I just MELT when an actual Spanish human says anything
Will you do like a weekend or day trip north? It would be so cool if you could see Berlin/Hamburg or of course my favorite Leipzig^^ would be a cool video for you to compare north to south or east to west ☺️☺️
