Good video and I think I’m kind of going through a similar situation right now like how you said that you played soccer but then had to fully focus to football if you wanted to take it to the next level. What’s funny is I have almost an identical story as yours. I played soccer from the age of three all the way till 6th grade and like you was told to try kicking. Long story short I’m now at my local Junior college kicking for them, I have the starting spot and I am talking to Washington State and Idaho State right now. I love your videos thank you for all the useful information, it’s definitely helped me to grow as a kicker/punter!
Enjoying your vids. I'm an over the hill 50 yr old beat up former D1 soccer player in the NY area (St. John's) but always was fascinated with field goal kicking for obvious reasons. Here in NY, high school football was never big. Soccer was really big, actually. I was kind of like you I guess, just seemed to have a good leg at a young age. I normally played fullback and would take all of the goal kicks up until about varsity high school when finally keepers would take them, as they should. A lot of us soccer players used to goof around at practice if the football team was on the other end as well. The football coaches always would be begging for one of us to come play. Lol. We used to kick 45 yarders fairly easy just kind of showing off to the football team. But none of us could do it consistently. I guess that was the rub. In fact my buddy did decide to kick for the football team and also play soccer. He was an amazing soccer player. Got a full D1 ride. But he also got a recruitment letter from Joe Paterno Penn State after kicking a 50 yrd field goal in one of his games. This was back in 1990. I often wonder if he has any regrets not pursuing a career in football instead. His soccer career basically flamed out like it did for all of us because there was no MLS to pursue in the early 90s.
