Group travel tip: if you regularly travel with a group or groups (family, SO, friends, whatever), its helpful for everyone to have a color of their own. For instance, my color is green. My spouse's is black. My sons is blue. As much of my camping and travel gear as possible has my color on it. If not possible, a bit of nail polish or colored duct tape works. That way, it's a lot easier to identify whose gear is whose. I started doing that in Girl Scouts 50 years ago. For instance, my travel backpack, daypack, messenger bag, cosmetic case, travel mug (loose tea), microfiber towel, silicone foldable mug and bowl or mess kit, etc, are all green

Even when traveling solely inside the US, I travel with a UK plug converter for planes. The universal power outlet that many planes have at the seat are often loose and stretched out. A UK plug is big and will stay in those outlets firmly while others fall out.

Be careful in the Philippines! They took mine, as they are not allowed in carry-on. And they don't tell you when you check your baggage. And B4U ask: No, I have no clue why.
@KebTravels
@KebTravels Месяц назад
@@meinnaame6988. It was taken when you departed the Philippines or upon arrival? What airline?
@meinnaame6988
@meinnaame6988 Месяц назад
@@KebTravels Actually it was taken during a stop in Cebu. SIA has a flight from SIN-DVO that returns DVO-CEB-SIN (a triangle). On that trip (there:HAJ-FRA-SIN-DVO back:DVO-CEB-SIN-MUC-HAJ) the cord was taken in Cebu after 5 (FIVE!!) flights!!! Nobody cared before. It is NOT the airline, only the security personnel. And in the Philippines (FEElippines...) this person says this and that person says that. In DVO we had to unpack and surrender vinegar (sealed bottle packed in double plastik ziplock bags) because it was "corrosive" they said. Summary: Extension cord in PH goes to checked baggage, not carry-on.

I bought a small camping clothesline with me and always have it along when traveling. Even if I don't do laundry it helps to air out clothes for another day of wear and gives more options to hang up clothes if the closet is small.
@NoraDunn

Nice! I traveled with one of those clotheslines for ages and I either didn't use it, or when I tried to use it there wasn't anywhere decent to hang it up. In the end I found it easier to just drape things over chairbacks, shower rails, etc - or simply put on hangers and hang around the room.

Great suggestions. If I am ultimately taking a cruise in conjunction with a flight, I carry a non-surge suppresor cube (that also has USB-A and USB-C ports), and a multiport USB-only strip that plugs into AC. This avoids the cruise ship restriction on surge suppressors. I pack light, but if a cruise is involved, there will be a checked bag in the mix, and I consider the bag fee as part of the cruise cost. I was once asked how to pack light for a wedding, and I said that it is a "business trip," so check a bag. 😅 Three trips that I will check a bag for...a wedding, a cruise that follows a flight, and a pure photography oriented trip that calls for DSLR and lenses (which becomes my carry-on and forces a checked bag for other stuff).

Everyone needs to have their own travel system and routine that works for them, that's as complicated or simple as they feel comfortable with, so there's obviously not one that works for everyone. But it's really helpful to have one and nice to come across so many useful tips. Of course the hard part is having the discipline to actually come up with and use a system, and I'm still working on that. Every trip I take I promise to get it right, and of course don't. The one tip I have is don't put it off till shortly before your trip. You'll have enough on your mind then to likely not have the mental space to do this too. I get trip anxiety before every trip, worried that I'll forget something, pack too much, too little or the wrong things, etc., and I'm just too stressed out to be able to think about anything beyond the absolute essentials. So I have to work on my system well in advance. Someday I'll get it right. I keep telling myself.

I asked them if they might also have clip on readers, and they did! They're just like the clip on sunglasses but they're clear with +1, +2, etc magnification. Years ago when I travelled for business there were alway porters...until there weren't. That's when you realize you only take what you can carry and enough soap to wash clothes in the sink. My one travel item I'm never without is a 6 ' lite weight para cord and some hair clips or laundry clips. I've even used paper clips. Wash items and hang from bathroom bar, or hang near heater, or in a pinch I hang from the luxury hotel Juliette balcony. Sleep in tee shirt and undies. A CREDIT CARD IF ANOTHER OUTFIT IS NEEDED FOR AN UNPLANNED OCCASION ie Gala cocktails, swimming, camel riding, etc. Always put copies of your credit cards and contact numbers for lost CC in your phone. I carried one leather women's stylish briefcase and one personal item for a 3 day business trip. I use pack cases for bigger items, but most often store items together in 1 quart sealable plastic bags. Take light weight hangers because hotels are notorious for poor hangers unless at a 4/5** accommodation. Although now I've learned to fold better without wrinkles.

@SRG216
@SRG216 9 месяцев назад
I purchased the Travel Power Strip. One of the receptacles would spark when a plug was inserted because it wasn't making a good connection. Other receptacle was fine. The receptacles have a ground connector, but there's no ground on the plug. So the ground isn't connected to anything. This isn't safe and this would never get UL certified. It seemed pretty poorly made so I decided to pop off the covers and look inside. There is no surge suppression circuitry. Only circuit is for the USB ports. So the surge suppression claim is an outright lie in the description. I wouldn't be surprised if their claim to have high temperature plastic was false too. Maybe I'll take a lighter to the plastic like they do in the picture and see for myself.

I sometimes wanted to get robbed just to fool them…but nothing! Lucky…or Cheated? As I got older and wiser, I left the cards in the hotel room to stop a thief from looking further. I just happened upon this video again and just remembered that I've been using "bar shampoo" for years without realizing it--bar soap! Yes, I know, it's not necessarily good for your hair compared to real shampoo but I'm not fussy and tend to keep my hair short and unstyled, and in a pinch it does the job. But usually just a small dab of liquid shampoo is what I use. I will look into actual bar shampoo though, thanks! And, I'd be lying if I said that I don't need some sort of optical device to read things up-close at this point in my life, but thankfully I don't yet need reading glasses and only have to pull out a loupe or magnifying glass now and then to really really fine or faint print on some products. Although, often the real problem is lack of sufficient light, and a flashlight often does the trick. Never travel without either if I can help it. Curious to read on other peoples' must-have travel items. Everyone has different needs and preferences. I find that an open mind, lots of patience, a zen-like attitude and sanitizing lotion are tops on my list. 😄

How does that surge protector work with voltage changes around the world? Some places are 110v others 220v. Personally, I now travel with a 20 ft 3 outlet extension cord. I've been in hotels where the only avalable outlet is on the far side of the room from the bed.
@NoraDunn
@NoraDunn 6 месяцев назад
Wow - a 20ft extension cord must be massive! As for voltage, I don't bring anything that requires a voltage conversion; most electronics (phones, laptops, etc) are dual voltage so they're not a problem. It's appliances like hairdryers that won't work in countries with different voltages (unless you have a voltage converter, which can be bulky and heavy).
@mattlawrence7130
@mattlawrence7130 6 месяцев назад
@@NoraDunn My point was that surge protectors built for 110v/120v will not work correctly when plugged into 220v, it tends to fry them. The extension cord isn't that massive, it's an ordinary household extension cord. It's actually lighter than the 9 foot cord I used to pack.

Hi Pamela, The Sea to Summit pack video is from a year ago. I got the Osprey packs to test them out and compare to the Sea to Summit packs. Both have pros and cons. Sea to Summit is the lightest and packs down the smallest, but has no internal organization nor outside pockets. Osprey Ultralight Stuff Pack has 2 outside pockets (I don't know what you're looking at that just has one), and the pocket that it packs into actually has 2 compartments so there's a bit more organization possibilities than what might appear online.
