Some of the most popular reasons (at least according to this forums user) of why new players dip out of ESO shortly after playing it for the first time. What has your experience been like?

Their focus is just not fully on ESO, that's a problem with an MMO. Once an MMO gets back seated the player base will see it as a game that's not a living world anymore and start leaving. It's fine to have a new MMO in development, but its clearly come at a cost of ESO.

You are correct. ESO is at milking period. They cash in while burning player trust. This anti-consumer practice should be called out, shamed and also we should try to make them earn less money.

i agree with pretty much everything u said with the exception of the inventory issue, what i think is the main inventory issue are crafting mats not actual gear, the first few months i was playing eso in 2018 after, a 4yr hiatus from originally being in the alphas, i spent pretty much all my gold upgrading my bank which was filled the vast majority with crafting mats, i think that there should be a non sub version of the crafting bag with a hard cap which only becomes unlimited with the sub, theyve done something similar with the bank space which doubles with a sub so it cant be that hard to code in a craft bag limit imo, this would ease a lot of early pressure on inventory management especially for new players who dont have a clue what they should keep or not even when it comes to mats

I agree 100% on the animations, they look so stiff it's ridiculous even for a 10 year old game. The graphics overall are great for an mmo, you can't expect AAA 2024 graphics for this genre because it needs to be accessible for as much people as possible. I'm always surprised especially with eastern mmo that go for insane graphics that almost requires a 4090Ti to run with decent settings. The characters and npc textures however could really use an overhaul they just look dated. When you create a new character, if you play around with the sliders you can literally see the polygons in some areas that's so bad xD Adding content is essential, zones and quests are great and I don't understand that issue either. I do think, however that they need to stop adding more dungeons and sets, the game is bloated with useless sets already, and we have a lot of dungeons as well. They could use all that time and money to design other things that the game needs, like other game modes (pvp, endless archive like stuff...), combat revamp, class rework, animations rework, more QOL and account-wide changes, the list is actually pretty long lol.

Love the topics. One question I have is, do you do the same quest on multiple characters or just one? I have played this game for about 5 years, but progression is at a slow do to constantly charging mains. Does anyone else have this problem?
@simonemichelle

Most of the achievements are only earned by one character, but yeah, you have to do all the quests again on each character. I suppose if you don’t want to do them again you don’t have to since zone quests are no longer dependent on your progress on other zones

Overland being a joke is why I've lost a few people I tried getting into the game. They feel is not engaging enough, and it's the majority of the content. Also, imaging having this massive buildup for a villain only to two shot them wearing nothing.

I will never quit this game. I always come back, even with its flaws. One thing about ZoS: they do usually address our complaints though it takes them a long time to do so. Because they are constantly working on the next chapter/dlc, it seems that they take 1-2 years to catch up with community feedback. That shouldnt be the case, and their combat team desperately needs to communicate with us frequently, but since I take long breaks with the game it doesnt bother me as much as some.
@ArkAngelRonin
@ArkAngelRonin 7 месяцев назад
Many of their reasons why their friends don't want to come back to ESO, or quit, are so subjective. What brought me to ESO was that I was a fan of the Elder Scrolls franchise ever since Oblivion. I love the lore of Elder Scrolls more than anything within the franchise. However, what made me stop playing was the lack of challenging content for someone who has been playing ESO for 4 years, and I'm, honestly, held back because I could never find the right group of people that would push myself to my limits to try out Veteran Trials. I play on Xbox NA, burnt too much bridges due to so much drama that I've endured, and so, I decided enough was enough, and stopped playing ESO this past month. All and all, I do cherish some of the good times I had with ESO.
@RagingRevine

I've played pretty much all the top MMOs except for RS. You can't claim graphics are bad as a reason people leave when FF14, WoW. RS and others that have huge player bases but dog animation or character movement. People who invest get use to the movement when the other elements of the game are good. You can't keep everyone, but it's not a big reason. The biggest reason that people leave ESO in particular is the inventory management and the insane amounts of monetization with half of it not being account wide. You combine that with a big lack of real QoL changes and you don't get player retention.
@demolishweaklings
@demolishweaklings 7 месяцев назад
WoW has very good graphics with extremely quality in the art department. The movement and combat is basically the best in the MMO genre since WoW Vanilla came out. You cannot compare WoW to any of those you mention, including ESO.
@RagingRevine
@RagingRevine 7 месяцев назад
@@demolishweaklings ''can't compare it'' yes i can...they are all MMOs, doesn't matter who came first buddy. The game is visually worse than modern games by a landslide. The combat and movements are outdated. You are speaking from nostalgia. The thing that WoW does better than ESO, FF14 ( slightly ) and RS is cosmetics along with collectible mounts.

The only thing I agree with here is the zone quests being far too easy. As someone with 2500cp and a meta build, I steam roll through almost any quest I do and it doesn't feel that good. I would love a veteran difficulty for questing. It would make it far more engaging. Or just add world tiers, like the division. As you increase the world tier, everything gets harder. Have 3 tiers. Normal, hard, veteran. No n3ed for new servers either. Just make the world tiers different instances in the game. You can only see and group with players in your world tier. Unless you're doing dungeon or trial through the group finder or queue system... If ubifail can figure it out, I'm sure zenimax can...

Inventory space almost made me quit the game as well in the beginning. The only reason I pay for plus is the craft bag. I own all the expansions. ZOS knows this, every time they advertise a free plus trial they place the craft bag front and center. The materials are what fill the bags up and you need the mats for anything gear related.

I think it would be more accurate to say that this game's code is clearly a carry-over from a single player game. The more time you spend unraveling it, the more this becomes apparent. And, if this method of coding were employed in a single player game, it would probably work very well. But in an online game, where servers have to synchronize with a multitude of players, it doesn't have a hope in hell of preforming well. This is sort of why server upgrades don't really make too much difference for a lot of players. The lag is a natural result of ESO's coding methodology.

PC EU is your friend. Plenty of people on there. Even in PvP. I notice the trend is to migrate away from console to PC and some also away from the NA server to the EU server. We have several people in my guild who did this, now playing on PC EU. The community on PC EU is just so much bigger than NA or consoles.
@simonemichelle

I think most of the player base are Elder Scrolls fans, which it’d be safe to assume singer player RPG fans. No mystery at all why most players prefer PVE & solo play. The PVP players are a loud minority!
@elderwiz3165
@elderwiz3165 7 месяцев назад
No veteran modes please. Just give us a difficulty slider to nerf our character. Then we can play with other people who want to play story mode in the same fight. No segregation of the community please. If someone chooses to play on higher difficulty give some UI clue to others so they can see you're nerfed. Good for the group to know and also for youtubers who want to have bragging rights for soloing a WB on nightmare difficulty etc.. This way they won't separate the player base. As incentive maybe attach some achievements and furniture to completing content on higher difficulty settings. Also good for showing your guildies and friends what you did by linking achiev in chat or having them visit your house.
@Arasaka

Is there any MMO that doesn’t shed players over time? Only very few new players will still be engaged in any game after one year. I think what’s different about ZOS is that they have not done a good job of taking care of their long term players(customers). Any game should have a good mix of old and new players. If you lose too many long term players you get a brain drain and see this in such things as tank shortages.

I just quit ESO after 8 years of playing almost daily. I defended this game staunchly for years, because I genuinely loved it. But I can't continue to justify paying a monthly sub for a game that is placing more and more content behind paywalls and scamming their player base with crown crates. The crown crates alone are horrendous - I have never had any sort of gambling addiction prior to this game, but was blowing so much money on them I maxed out a credit card. That's mainly on me for letting it get that bad, but the RNG on those crates is purposely awful to make people buy more. There's also the chapters. Last year with Necrom ZoS said there wouldn't be a second half of the chapter because they were going to focus on the servers and PvP and other things that needed attention. Yet they charged the same price for half a chapter that we've paid in the past for much more content. They have done the same thing this year with Gold Road, except without the excuse of doing maintenance in the second half of the year. So now we're getting half the content for the same cost. There are games out now that are making it easier to just leave ESO. I've gotten hooked on Baldur's Gate 3, which gives me thousands of hours of new content without having to buy any DLC's, crates, cosmetics, etc. You buy the game once and that's it, and you can play with up to 4 friends. They will also have mods available on Xbox as well as cross-platform play by the end of this year. There is also Final Fantasy XIV, which is an MMORPG that came out earlier this year for console. I tried the beta and loved the complete lack of focus on their store - it can only be accessed online, the items are much cheaper than ESO and they don't have addictive stuff like crown crates. You can also earn a ton of items, mounts and cosmetics for free just for completing quests in the game. And as a former officer of a trading guild in ESO, FFXIV's trading hub is in one place and guilds are not having to compete with each other and drain their guild banks for a good spot like in ESO. The bottom line is ESO was able to run for a decade with next to no competition, which allowed them to get greedier and to slack on content. The last chapter I genuinely enjoyed was Greymoor. Blackwood was basically a reskin of Greymoor with the same quest boss mechanics and a weaker storyline. I'm a PvEr, so the storylines and questing were always my main focus in ESO. When the story quality started deteriorating with Blackwood, I started struggling because as a loyal player, I felt like I was being ripped off. Especially in the last two chapters where we only got half the usual content for the same cost. There are other things I could gripe about but these were my main issues that led me to quit the game.

inventory management is an issue. My daughter plays, but doesn't have a subscription....she sends/trades everything to me. I in turn provide her with whatever she needs. This will be interesting soon, as i'll be quitting the sub come November. I agree that animations/graphics could be better, especially in light of the tech available now - but an overhaul would be lengthy and costly. TBH, i don't have an issue with what we have, as i play other games with worse....For something that's 10 years old.....it's fine. Too much content? For (again) a ten year old game? No. It certainly is a lot to get thru when you first start, but it's achievable. Like mentioned as a suggestion in another video - a more clear-inbuilt roadmap for new players (and some of us 'older' ones) would help reduce the confusion and the sense of being overwhelmed.

its fine to focus on what makes money, but that doesnt mean you leave everyone else out of the equation. People like rich lambert love to talk about how they havent forgotten pvp, pvp is an important part of the game, and so on, but just saying it doesnt make it true. There is no reason we should have dozens of pve only updates. Year after year after year. With nothing significant new for pvp. Sometimes theyll throw us a random thing, like a pvp set or something stupid like bridges and mile gates being destroyable. But its not significant. That coupled with the fact that their terrible servers have caused terrible performance for almost the entire time the game has existed. Only ever getting worse, and not getting better. And when terrible performance impacts pvp players the most, it makes it even harder to stick around. Same old pvp content for half a decade, and it doesnt even work right. The more people in cyrodiil the worse it feels, but on the other hand a lot of the time only the main campaign is populated. So you suffer with it, go play in a lonely campaign, or log off. Almost every pvp focused player i ever knew is gone. I have played for 8 years and watched every friend i had on eso leave. Because, again, when performance is terrible, when nothing new ever comes for pvpers, when nothing ever changes for the better, when zos constantly ignores us, when they break promises, when they say they will communicate better but fail every time, its very hard to stick around. *on another note, this games combat feels very clunky early on. I think this is a big issue for newer players. When you're playing at a higher level, doing everything very fast and snappy, it feels great. But when you're running around light attacking with your greatsword in first person, ya it looks god awful.

About animations, I wish there was less of them. Why is my sword and board guy lighting up like a christmas tree? He's not a spellcaster... Okay, yes it's silly but the running animation is weird. I didn't notice it for a long time and it doesn't change how I feel about the game, but it is something that could be updated and refreshed I find it slightly more obvious on female characters and that it is further highlighted when using a personality like Duchess or Passion Dancer because of the contrasts between idle/walking and running As for graphics, I think that is mostly a problem for non-MMO players. Yes, it's disorienting to go from a game like Elden Ring or Horizon with beautiful grass animations and fantastic scenery, but ESO has great art (base game looks dated and would really benefit from a remake or refresh). I do think a lot of people who make this criticism are comparing games with server burdens to games localized to a disk

ESO needs to modernize its UI and animations but Weaving is not the enemy. Lack of endgame builds that can do without it is. Weaving as an idea is similar to fighting games and animation cancelling normals (light attacks)into special moves (ex: Shoryuken). Not dated and definitely skillful yet animated poorly in ESO. ESO has bad artists. People do not swing weapons in such silly ways.

Would you really want ZOS paying valuable resources to tell the player exactly where to go when they already have an intro that literally gives portals to different places and the player could just google. I suppose on each portal they could say...Blackrock Isle-->Starter zone, recommended for new players. Telvanni Pennisula--> Dlc zone...blah blah blah. There are guides online that tell the story arc, although they are somewhat complicated. Could zos include a menu showing this...sure...but then people would complain that they are wasting resources on lazy players instead of "fixing bugs".
