As expected, this is the best X100VI review I’ve seen yet. Keeping things real and through the eyes of a true photographer. Thank you. I’ve had the V since March 2021 and the features like 40mp and IBIS aren’t improvements for me personally. For Fujifilm to make these significant updates for only a $200 price increase is amazing.
Thanks for this. I have owned the X100s since the first iteration. If my home is on fire, it's the camera I'd grab. I'm a commercial shooter, so I have several 'high-end' cameras and lenses. I've owned the V since it came out. Like you, I preordered the VI and when it arrived I was concerned that the IBIS or something inside the camera 'clunked' when I rotated the camera. I removed the battery and it still 'clunked' so I returned it. A week later I watched a YT video where the reviewer stated that the clunk was 'normal' and does not happen when the VI is powered on. So I wrote to the retailer and asked them to just return 'my return' since of course all VIs are sold out until June 2024. I had also sent my V to a reputable retailer to sell, but I won't accept their offer until I get the VI back in my hand. AND the VI retailer told me that their tech department inspected my VI and found something faulty, but didn't specify the issue. They had two in stock so they are sending me a new different unit. I've loved my V and I may decide to just keep that one too. Greed or nostalgia may be the reasons. I've used my V for client publicity shoots too when it was the right tool for the right job. My client based calls it "Mark's little Instamatic" and seems pleased when I use it in place of my medium format camera sometimes.
Checking out the silver vs the black x100v in a Fuji showroom... The silver aged like a joke! Black looked fine, but the silver, all of the dials wore down to the cheap transparent plastic underneath. Disappointing and glad I saw it before preordering as black looks like it'll last a good bit longer(at least all the touch points)
Just upgraded to the 6 from the V and very much agree with you. There is definitely a finish difference to the black and silver due to the black being painted. That choice is always the hardest.
I finally have my pre-ordered X100VI. I do also own a Sony A7 IV. My question is: Does the Fuji X100 VI have the Soft Skin Effect, like the Sony A7IV???? Please can you check on it? I can't find it on the X100VI. ´
Good video :) how do you feel about Reala Ace? It has not clicked for me yet but then again I never was a big fan of Astia or Provia. Nostalgic Negative is the shit though! I love this new film simulation
I just bought my firsr x100 series camera (X100T) to sit alongside my X30 since they use the same batteries. I really enjoyed it on my first full day of shooting yesterday.
For me the deal breaker is no second card slot. Also I wish Fuji moved their factor to Thailand rather than a police state. Also these guys managed to squeeze in IBIS, but couldnt figure out a way of making it weather /dust resistant without the need to buy an extra filter...that really should be included in the box on day one. Finally....I cannot believe this is more expensive than Nikon's full frame Mirrorless camera. For me it is time and affordable to finally move to full frame Nikon.
I am not a fan of fixed lens cameras I use a Sony a6600 and a Sony a7111 the only thing I like about Fuji cameras r the film simulations I would like if Sony had them
I heard switching between photo and video is a bit of a pain compared to other cameras, is that true? Like it won’t save your setting for each individually. It’ll be the same setting for both. If that’s the case it’s a bit disappointing.
Also +1 with disliking how the custom settings work now. We only want custom settings to affect colours, tones etc - areas that adjust the Joey output. Boost, focus setting etc all need to be set to your preference for each custom setting. Having to pretty much set the camera up 7 times was very annoying
The image quality is great tho? Sharp through out the image with plenty of detail. If you don’t like the colours and tones - that’s subjective and be changes in camera or in post.
I shoot with Sony A7RV and Leica M11. I bought the X100VI and I don't like the image quality. Skins are very sharp and DOF is limited on APSC sensor. Feels like a toy in the hand.
I had the X100 IV ideration and sold it long ago. Much like yourself, I have the Leica Q2 Monochrome and the Sony A1 with a slew of lenses. I don't see me ever changing. It would have to be a game changer, a real game changer, and we are running out of game changers. I returned from the New Orleans French Quarter last Thursday with the Q2M.......I've loved that camera from day 1. So much soul and character.
I own a Sony a7R4 and went in to place the order… got a chance to handle an old 100F and said to myself… whaaaaaaaat? It’s not pocketable, it’s a fixed lens, the lens is not even a 1.2… it’s a 2 so it is not going to meet my needs and it’s $1600 I’d rather spend that money on glass
