this is a bit of a different vid for a quick change, i hope you like it! if you disagree, i’d love to hear your thoughts but please keep the comment section civil! thanks for all your suggestions - i’ll make more of these later so i can fit as much as possible. i also wanna make separate vids for ship/character/season rankings. there’s too much to say about them 😭 edit: i'm loving reading through all your opinions, keep sharing ❤️

Rachel is somehow overrated and overhated.

The Marley ED storyline was so bad. Everyone blamed her for Sectionals and they never showed her recovery. We were left to assume she got better. They never should have done the storyline if they can’t do it properly smh.

To be honest I think the writers never focused on female relationships (Friendship) it's like the women on the show are incapable of being friends without fighting over something stupid or they simply do not give them attention like the masculine ones. I hate that ahow.

I honestly agree with holly being a better teacher because she just wanted the kids to have fun but still sing good music which is what glee is supposed to be about

God Tina made me feel so bad. Even within the group of bullied nerds, there is a hierarchy, and Tina sat on the bottom, and when she finally spoke up, everyone acted like she was at fault for not just taking it.

emma was so happy and healthy with carl. compare how he helped her with her ocd compared to will (however well-meaning he might have been) and there's no contest. also, all of the opinions in this? top tier, you are one of the only reasonable people i've seen in this fandom lmao

Another thing: that episode when Ryder blatantly told the whole group that he was molested by his babysitter and all the guys were like “that’s so awesome” and mr schue did nothing!! I felt bad for Ryder he became vulnerable and raw to the group and they didn’t help at all

And the fact he was so jerky to Quinn at the dance and freaking almost assaulted her is sickening . In the bathroom she was STANDING, not running a freaking marathon.

Honestly Shue made Emma put him before her and made her think her ocd was just something she should live with cuz it was apart of her while Carl made her a better person and actually helped her with her illness. He also made her smile and laugh all the time and she seemed to be confident in his presence. I’m sad looking back at how the relationship was cut off

The whole Tina being Rachel episode was a hot mess and should have never been aired. Mike being mad at Tina for her reaction was so stupid. Mike would never act like that. Also at the end when she convinces everyone on the costume committee to “do their part” made me want to physically hurl.

I totally agree with the carl and emma relationship being better (he literally helped her and Mr Schue acted horribly) and the double wedding was so cute! Pretty much I agree with everything lol

personally I think it would've been better if holly was like a "co-teacher" beside mr shue cuz her character was such a laid-back person that she kinda needed some harder direction but them together would've been so good because of their contrasting characteristics and all (idk if that made sense lmao)

rachel is obnoxious and annoying and THAT’S THE POINT. glee is satire and rachel is supposed to be fitting into that stereotypical caricature of the annoying theatre kid who wants to hog the spotlight. i find her to be one of the funniest characters on the show which makes her one of my favourites, she is so over the top and annoying and that’s what makes the show interesting. people saying she’s a horrible character, that they hate her, complaining about her ego etc. is taking the show way too seriously. like that’s exactly what the showrunners are going for. i feel like rachel is a joke that often goes over people’s heads.

Rachel is awful but most of that is because the writers put her above everyone else and Shue let her get away with everything. I usually can’t stand her but she would have been so much better if she was treated the same as everyone else. As much as she has a lot of horrible opinions and things to say, she also has plenty of sweet scenes that get ignored. And you’re right, Finn was a sweetheart but he was the most selfish character on the show. He was kind but it was incredibly annoying how he was made to play the hero when he fucked up instead of just apologizing. It drives me nuts how some people ( a surprisingly large amount) act like Santana being a bully justified Finn outing her. She was a bitch but her life was put in danger and considering his brother had to leave because of the homophobia, he should have known better. And being able to walk doesn’t mean being able to walk well or a lot. And the writers gave him credit for “helping her come out out.” Bitch he outed her!

I agree with all of these, but especially the Quinncedes one. It was such a wonderful friendship that not only showed a great part of the the seperate characters' development, but also kind of proved the beauty of the glee club; aka, that it could bring people together that otherwise never would've become friends. Completely disregarding that friendship after s1 was such a character regression for Quinn, and is also one instance on a list of dozens of RIB not being able to write healthy friendships between women.

I think the Unholy Trinity is hyped up because of the individual characters, not necessarily their storylines or their interactions as a group.

Unpopular Opinion: Brittana was more rushed than Klaine. Klaine had so much screen time and actually showed their life after marriage but didn’t do the same with brittana. It’s brittana stans who i feel bad for.

I agree about Rachel. She's funny and slightly obnoxious but she's a character that I wouldnt take too seriously. But lea Michele is something else. Also I do like the double wedding but I just wanted more glee so I wanted 2. I love it though ☺and Omg again blaintana! I love them and wanted more development on friendship

I wished the Unholy Trinity had a mission impossible/charlie’s angels episode. We could actually see how they work together and how they have a connection singing and dancing even without rehearsals. I also wish Naya was still alive 😭

Heather crying in the toilets during the school shooting really pulled at my heart strings and show just how AMAZING she is

One thing with Finn that always annoyed me but no one ever brings up is the grilled chesus episode. It's not necessarily something 'bad' that he did but when he thinks the the grilled cheese can 'grant him wishes' and that he only possibly gets 3 he never once asks for Burt to get better, he doesn't even consider it. He even gets mad at Kurt for not telling him about the heart attack right away because he was starting to see them as a family and Burt as a dad. If that was the case and he thought his sandwich was magic why didn't he try to help. Even without the family thing his friend was possibly about to be orphaned and he barely thought about him. Even Puck says he's been going to temple and praying for Burt, when he catches Finn praying to the sandwich and Finn lies and says he was praying for the same thing when he wasn't. Even though it's not that big of a thing like with him outing Santana and other stuff he's done it's just something that's always bugged me. Also no hate to Cory or even Finn tbh I still like his character and understand that people and characters are complex, it's just the way he acted in that episode.

i think the most important thing about carl and emmas relationship was that he acually made her OCD better. like the time they went to the rocky horror show and emma didnt even care everything around her was dirty. Will did not really help her that much with that and I felt like Emma was also a lot happier in her relationship with carl

Carl and Emma rlly deserved each other and he HELPED HER MAKE PROGRESS like Will was so toxic and continuously pushed between them

Istg mike is such an underrated character he is unproblematic VIBES TO EVERYTHING and Is such a nice friend So supportive of everyone 🤧😭🥺✌️

i didn’t see how the unholy trinity were considered friends. santana and brittany were the only ones with chemistry. it didn’t even feel like quinn was friends with them🤷‍♀️

I feel like klaine being forced into a marriage like weeks after they got back to together kind of fricked over their character development. After learning that rushing into things is not good for them, and taking their time and working on themselves mutually and individually with plenty of room for communication and time alone is the best way to go for their relationship, and resolving their sht, suddenly they're immediately jumping into marriage?? How difficult was it to just show they were still together in the flash forward?!

i agree about the newbies, i hated all the s4 newbies aside from marley, she’s one of my fav characters. i also don’t feel like she was a copy, she didn’t have the same personality as the other characters imo.

Unpopular opinion but Puck and Lauren were one of the best couples on the show

QUINN.CEDES WAS THE FRIENDSHIP WE ALL DESERVED BUT NEVER GOT MUCH OF 😢

I hated how Finn treated Quinn. First of all, he flirted with Rachel and didn’t even attempt to hide his emotions, instead he made Quinn watch as he treated Rachel like a god or something (even though she’s not). And then, he got made at Quinn for cheating, and yes I know how messed up it was that she faked the fact that the baby was his, but he got back with Rachel AFTER she tried to do the dirty with Puck (like wtf you hypocrite). And it wasn’t until she got pregnant that he cared for her WHILE still flirting with Rachel. And then he told her whole family that she was pregnant IN A FREAKING SONG!! He didn’t even talk to her before telling them and continued to be shocked when they kicked her out (like you knew how religious her family was)!! And after he found out that the baby wasn’t his, he KICKED HER OUT!! Like damn, make sure she has somewhere to stay first!! Luckily Mercedes was generous enough to take her in, bless her soul. And after he paired her up with Sam, he made her cheat on him while getting over his breakup with Rachel (like damn make sure you’re mentally stable before you date someone). And then he accused her of cheating with her ex whom she cheated on with Finn!! When really Sam was living in a motel and Quinn was being a good person. And after he breaks up with her, he gets back together with Rachel?! The person who almost did the dirty with you’re best friend? And then he gets back together with Quinn AGAIN in season three after she got in a car accident after replying to you’re girlfriend’s text.... And then assaults her because she doesn’t feel comfortable enough to walk? Like damn, let her tell people on her own! Just wow, after reading everything that I typed, I don’t know how I ever liked Finn. But I love Cory Monteith (R.I.P., May you fly high) and Dianna Agron’s friendship, it’s a shame he died too soon

1) YES. Holly was by far a better teacher, she wanted them to enjoy Glee and it would have been so much fun to see more of her. she also would not have taken any of Rachel's diva bullshit. 2) I agree 100%. She's hilarious, and also has the ability to convey so much emotion. 3) I feel like Rachel gets hated a lot because of her similarities to Lea Michele, and some people (myself included I'll admit) might have trouble separating the character from the actor. Rachel had so many funny moments and was a good character, even when she wasn't going good things. (except when she just got away with everything) 4) I would have preferred a separate wedding but two wedding episodes would definitely have been repetitive. I think it was done well. 5) They definitely had their moments. I feel like Rachel was more fun around him. 6) THIS. I liked him (for the most part) in S1 but it was downhill from there. absolutely no hate meant to Cory Monteith, just most of the time didn't love Finn. I feel like he guilt tripped her into thinking that what he did was right when he was talking about how he didn't want her anger to turn inwards on herself (or along those lines). 7) Unpopular for sure, but I see where you're coming from. Quinn+Brittany should totally have had more scenes together, and I wish we saw more sweet Quinntana moments. 8) 100%. Carl respected Emma and treated her like a real person, while also trying to help her with her OCD. Will saw her OCD as something that he had to fix, and when he saw that Emma was doing better with Carl, he not only mocked her but all he could think of was that Carl was winning. 9) I feel like RM, to the detriment of the show, wanted to focus more on romantic relationships over friendships because they had more dramatic potential. I add Pezberry, Kurtana and Kuinn(?) to your list of friendships we were robbed of. 10) I absolutely hated her in S4. I feel as though the writers were trying to remake Quinn/Santana and just combined all of their worst qualities, turned them up to 11, and then gave her no redeeming qualities. I liked her in S6 (as far as I remember) though, but I do agree she got off far too lightly. 11) Tina deserved so much better, she was ruined in S4. that whole episode where she finally stood up for herself and everyone (even Mike) told her to just shut up and let Rachel take the spotlight, like she was being unreasonable. 12) I agree. I wish we had seen and heard more of them, they had so much potential. Sorry for the long comment 😂 love this video!

I have many problems with Finn. Though, a lot of this I blame on the writers. Finn was supposed to be a well-intentioned, but a bit ignorant normal guy. But there are many times where they give him a particularly malicious, ugly side. It was like they had two Finns: laid-back Finn and asshole Finn. My biggest problem with Finn is his hypocrisy. He outed Santana because she was a "bully." I love Santana, but yeah I'll admit it. She was a bully and I don't condone fat shaming. But I also don't condone how the Glee Guys spoke about the girls' bodies which- if you all recall- was the reason Santana started in the first place. The Glee Guys also called Brittany stupid for years, but somehow that's not as bad to this fandom?? Idk. He also said gross shit about Rachel behind her back while he was dating her and laughed at Santana's jokes towards her (while he was dating her). Finn really had no right to get pissy with Santana about bullying when he wasn't any better (and obvi no right to out her, but I feel like that should be obvious). He condemned Rachel for caring more about her reputation in season 1 (TWICE) but didn't defend his stepbrother from a bully. He said that Sam and Quinn weren't as good as him and Rachel, despite the fact that Sam was a lot better than him. Not to mention that for all of seasons 2 and 3, he tried to force everyone to do what he wanted to do and acted as though he had the right to tell them how to live their lives (Kurt and Santana especially). However, I will give season 4 Finn proper credit. He was a lot more tolerable. Yeah, he did some dirty shit- calling Sue's baby the r-word and kissing Emma- but there was something a lot more mature about him. I also appreciate his relationship with the newbies, Unique especially. He was the first one to fully accept her. He acted like a guide to them and not just someone trying to control them like SOME people (SCHUE)

In the later seasons the writers kept trying to hype up the unholy trinity but they never gave them an actual storyline 💀

i agree about rachel, she’s annoying a lot of the time but over the seasons she matures into a better person and eventually has good character development. i’m not on season 6 yet (i’m on season 5) but i personally love the season 4 newbies. glee could’ve made their personalities better tho instead of trying to repeat. i hate kitty tho. also unique was totally amazing and they just got rid of her smh. same with jake and ryder (who are actually one of my fav ships from glee)

totally agree with finn. he treated quinn SOO badly. i mean yeah quinn lied to him but time and time again he treated her so bad. he cant keep his hands and eyes off of rachel everytime theyre dating, even after finn convinces her to cheat on sam with him, when sam and quinn were happy together only for him to break up with her after falling for rachel again..

they had the perfect opportunity for a quinn and artie friendship in season 3 and we got like 4 scenes🏃‍♀️

Such great points, I would’ve loved to see Holly as their teacher more; “Glee is about opening yourself up to joy”. Also such underrated acting, I think it helped that some emotions rang true for the cast as well, like when Finn/Corey died or when they would talk about feeling accepted in that group

I feel the same way about Finn. I do not like his character at all. He’s not my favorite and I don’t care for him really.

I feel like ppls hatred of rachel stems from two things: 1: the allegations that came out last year about lea’s actions towards her costars and ppl that worked with her in the past, bc a lot of the “rachel being horrible for 5 minutes straight” only started coming out after those allegations. 2: the writers of glee gave rachel a lot more attention and character development than other characters (such as tina and mike, for example) and even though glee was supposed to be a show with a cast of main characters it just turned into the rachel berry show.

brody was without a doubt the best boyfriend rachel had on the show. he was the only one that actually supported her the way a partner should. he was also the only one that would actually hold her accountable and try to help her change her behavior. while him lying was horrible, i understand why he did, to an extent. he was a great partner and i hate what the show did to him

Kitty is absolutely awful, imagine being so evil that you spend hours on end sabotaging costumes just to make a girl feel insecure and then further bully her about it, then literally TEACH HER how to be bulimic. I think the Glee writers thought this could be a funny situation based on the editing and fun music while Kitty was sewing up Marley’s costumes, but a) Santana and other characters would never do something as awful as that and b) doing something against Rachel, who is very flawed and an anti-hero, versus Marley who is sweet and didn’t do anything, reads completely differently, so the whole situation blew up in their faces and instead this isn’t funny at all, it’s disturbing tbh

I wish Quinn and Mercedes were friends for the whole show instead of a few episodes in season one.

I would've loved to see an exploration of Quinn's character as well, like no way in hell was she straight. Maybe even having her get into a relationship with Santana, not as an endgame, having them decide it's better to be friends and then have a proper friendship after, having Quinn grow closer to Brittany as close friend as well.

i so agree about holly. only problem is she wasn’t as organized as mr schue and wasn’t able to deal with serious issues. i loved her but she was a bit too laid back at times

i used to hate rachel badly but then she became my comfort character in season 6. like she got lots of hate from the entire world and she still pushed through

The first unpopular glee opinions video where I agree with every single opinion. I also think that we should’ve seen more of Sam and his family, considering it was a very important thing in only a few episodes.

i completely agree with the unholy trinity one. sure, they’re an iconic trio, but they definitely didn’t get enough friendship moments and i would have loved to see that!!

AGREE with basically all of these!!! especially Quinncedes and the s6 newbies, i loved quinncedes’s relationship; it was so sweet - also, Jane and Mason were ADORABLE in season 6 and we were totally robbed of their relationship.

Now that you say it, the idea of a double wedding is very cute. I initially hated the double wedding but now that I think about it, the only reason I hated it was because of Klaine. Their storyline was too rushed. It made no sense for them to get married and I think we deserved better. I wish we had seen them as a happy/healthy couple again before that happened. And the only reason I think people hated Rachel is because she got everything handed to her. If she was exactly the same person, but still experienced some strife I think people would have empathized a a lot more with her, therefore cutting her some slack. Kitty is literally a horrible person and I hate her. She was worse than anyone on the whole show, including Sue (at least Sue made her awfulness hilarious). Also, Will Shue is awful too, and it's worse because the show liked to pretend he was a great person. I think we can all agree on that... All of your opinions are amazing and I applaud you for making this.

I wish they showed puck and finn's friendship more. Like after finn found out about the way his dad actually died, they should've had a scene where puck found him upset and comforted him. They should've hugged or something. Because they always show puck as someone with almost a toxic masculinity but if they had showed him helping his upset (maybe even crying) friend, it would've been a really moving and important scene.

Another friendship I would have loved is Artana. They had so many cute background moments and I think Naya and Kevin were somewhat close. I think they could have given them a good storyline and I think Artie would have been great had they given them a scene in I kissed a girl. They could have had something like they were both kinda mad about how things went down between them and Brittany and then become friends and he helps her when she gets outed. He seemed really supportive with all the background moments in I Kissed A Girl. They would have been amazing friends and they could have had great friendship development

yes, the wedding part on the serie was smart, seeing all the context (the audience, the short season), but i still cant accept this, because man, both couples were amazing and both deserved so sooo much a solo wedding. Bringing both together in one cerimony became the wedding of each couple a thing less special yk. yes, it was awesome, but it could be more if it was separed in two events (and if quinn was in there, i mean, where was she???)

I love the UHT so much. I think they get so much hype bc we want to see more of them. With other characters there is more to work with but with the UHT we end up praising them for the smallest things because we are desperate for more content. So much wasted potential smh

Rachel was actually a good friend. She's done a lot of hurtful things, but she'd be later aware of her actions and she was always so forgiving of those who'd hurt her. She'd also greet people, she'd give hugs and high-fives; she's affectionate towards people. At her very core, she is a silly, bubbly, nice person, but her competitiveness would almost always get the best of her. Speaking of being a good friend, I'm also disappointed that the show didn't emphasize friendship a lot. Most of the time, the show focused on romantic relationships and beef people had with each other. I get that high school for a lot of people was horrible (it was for me too) and I would have loved to see some more platonic love in the show because that's really what got me and a lot of other people through high school. And finally, TINA IS THE MOST UNDERRATED CHARACTER EVER. Idk about other movies/shows, but she's the only Asian female character in a Western show to ever sing and dance. I was happy to finally see someone who looked like me on tv and share the same hobbies as I do, but she was barely given any singing and speaking lines. I also love her voice and I love her character overall, but it's so sad to know that she wasn't given the attention she deserved. This goes for Jenna as well :(

I agree with most of these, but the double wedding is just something I can’t stand lol because I don’t think it takes much attention away from klaine, but from brittana. Klaine has always had so much screen time, all these duets and storylines and brittana barely got anyway. Then, they finally get engaged but their wedding involves Klaine. Like, Santana’s the reason the wedding is happening in the first place and she says the least? Like barely any vows. And we didn’t get a slow dance or anything. :/

I completely agree with almost all of this especially the lack of actual friendship in the show. And Finns character inconsistencies.

I agree with the friendship part. Glee writers made it so that the characters were always at one point, fighting with one another. I get it, they're in high school, there supposed to be a lot of teenage drama and cat fights. But high school students can also build amazing friendships with each other. Especially the miketana part. These two would have been really great friends.

how much do you wanna bet that a lot of the stuff that they put in to seem "self-aware" were actual criticisms of the show and they put it in to be like "see?? we're in on the joke, too!" like, YEAH THAT'S THE PROBLEM

i totally agree that we deserved more development with the unholy trinity. they each had their separate plots and there was so much going on with the three of them separately, but there wasn't much to go off of whenever they joined forces. sure, at the end of the day, they were in tune with each other-- but the writers didn't really do a whole lot to back that up and make it seamless. a lot of the focus was on brittana being in love and quinntana being frenemies, and i think they could've taken all those times shue was the worst and given that time to the unholy trinity.

Tbh Brody's storyline was done so badly. I can understand that Rachel was allowed to feel some kind of way about his line of work, but it was the one he managed to find in order to keep paying for his school, not that it matters that he was a sex worker, it's a job like any other. And the fact they painted it like such a crime feels quite demeaning for people who actually do that for a living

I like Carl and Emma together more than Wemma too because Carl treats her good and was helping her with her OCD, but with Will, he legitimately just yells at her/makes her feel bad. Carl and Emma planned their wedding together, but when it was Wemma’s wedding, Emma had to plan the whole thing by herself which lead to Finn having to kiss her because she was having an anxiety attack. So Will should be thanking Finn for kissing Emma if he didn’t, she would’ve burned the whole school down (not actually, but when someone has like an anxiety/panic attack, you’ve got to kiss them to make them feel okay again). Plus, Will was married to Terri and was seeing Emma behind her back (but I’m not protecting Terri though, I mean she’s done a lot of messed up things).

Rachel is a great and fun character, she isn't the problem. The problem is how everyone treat her and give her everything (mr. shoe) if the show wasn't too much about her getting everything she want she would have been less hated I think. Holy was so much better than Will, she was so iconic

I highly agree with this entire vid but ESPECIALLY Brody. He was genuinely a nice and fresh guy who helped Rachel when she was a fish out of water and the way he was treated after his secret came out never set right with me. Also, being robbed of Quinncedes breaks my heart to this day. I loved what they started in s1 but they dropped the ball on them hardcore and basically acted like they didn't even exist. Also Kuinn. Or whatever a Kurt/Quinn mashup would be. I'm so sad about how much potential was wasted with so many of these wonderful characters.

Rachel could have been a great person and if it weren’t for the writers making it the Rachel Berry show. I blame the writers for ruining the show.

duuuuude i agree SO HARD about most of this especially the friendships. the Absolute Rage i feel about the lost potential of this show is so real

FINN KINDA SUCKED: He got cheated on twice then enjoys being a part of putting that pain on someone else(Sam and Quinn dating. Quinn cheated on Sam with Finn and Finn knew they were dating. He smirked as he lied to Sam about what happened between him(Finn) and Quinn ). Then Quinn gets back with Finn. Finn gets mad when there’s a rumor of Quinn and Sam sleeping together. Like??? The hypocrisy is appalling. He told Tina that she was a great candidate for Rizzo in west story. Instead letting Tina get a chance at the spotlight in her senior year, he gives the role to Santana who already graduated! It really bothered me when they tried to dilute Finn’s flaws when he died. Burt said that when he scolded Finn for calling Kurt’s room designs “f-slur(y)”, he(Burt) was really projecting and yelling himself. Reminiscing on how great someone was does not mean justifying their wrongs. 🤦‍♀️ I suggest watching the scenes I mentioned to truly understand what I mean.

Overall the girls carried, no questions about that. When it comes to the UHT I feel like the only actual Fierce storyline we got was way back when Sue was trying to get Brittany into that cannon and Quinn was so hellbent on protecting her from it... like i can't think of another plot where they had one another as a priority. Tbh even for Brittana most of the intricacies of their relationship was explored in background moments or subtext, Quinntana's dynamic would've been super interesting too. I literally forgot Quinncedes was a fullblown friendship in S01 like the pregancy stuff, the body image pep talks and everything, they were really there for each other with absolutely no ulterior motive. After a rewatch i absolutely agree on Rachel she's genuinely not as bad as she's made out to be.. like she's not much worse than the others and her character makes a lot more sense than some of them. As a show i think it's genuinely a lot better than ppl give it credit for.. like idk how to explain it but yeah

I believe that Glee wouldve been better if Holly took over. Her learning to be responsible and mature as an adult seem to be a better arc than whatever schue had going on

i didn't expect to agree with these as much as i do- but wow yeah i do agree, especially with the one about heather, brittany was such a complex character (even tho it may not seem like it) and she played her really well

I totally agree, I actually liked Rachel, sure she did things that pissed me off and she was annoying and bossy at times but she was a good character overall
