This video is in response to a viewer request for more information on the types of software I use both to record and edit videos and how I manage to ensure everything synchs up correctly in the finish product. In all the years I have been creating videos, I have simply used my iPhone for all the images.
For ease of navigating through the video, the chapter markers are:

I have referenced a number of other videos which take deep dives into some of the context touched upon here. They are all available in my Recording Your Piano Playlist

Hi Tommy, thank you so much for your video making tutorial. Video editing is a very time-consuming work, I hope our efforts are appreciated by people.

I agree, it is very time consuming. I think people appreciate it without realizing. I’m happy that people watch and share their thoughts with me so thanks very much !

Oh man, I'm debating between the mv88+ vs the zoom h6 to record my piano. Do you still recommend the mv88+?

Mostly it depends on what will work best for you. In terms of audio quality, there is little or no difference. If you plug higher end microphones into the h6 then you would of course see a difference however we’re now talking a massively different budget. My advice is to think of your workflow and which option works best. If you like the convenience of a smartphone based solution, I don’t think you can go wrong with the MV88+. The H6 gives perhaps more options going forward. However, these might be options they you will never use if you see what I mean :-)

@TommysPianoCorner yes, the allure of the h6 is all the extra features that you can use "one day." For me, at this point in my life, when I have three little kids running around, convenience is king. I figured the h6 might be as easy to use as the mv88 and sound much better with the included xy mics. But if the sound is similar. I might just opt for the mv88+. I'm not trying to put out a record lol. I just want to record some of my piano playing to reflect and fix things, maybe some listening in the car. I figured if I were going to use external mics for the h6, I'd just buy an audio interface. This choice is definitely for the included mics and easy of use. Maybe one day I'll have the cash to shell out for the earthworks pm40. Do you know if the mv88+ works with FaceTime?

@@MarianoPerez I have tried the MV88+ with a variety of apps. Once it is plugged into your phone, it bypasses the internal microphones so, whilst I have never tested with FaceTime, I’m sure it would. It even works with things like Zoom (even if plugged into a MacBook). Just be sure to set it up in the MOTIV app first. From what you describe, the MV88+ will serve you well. However, if you are using the newest iPhone with USB-C the MV88+ may have compatibility issues (there were previously with the USB-C iPad models that are now resolved). I have not yet been able to test with the iPhone 15 range. You could see if it possible to test an H6 (at your local audio store maybe). Personally, I prefer a recorder over an audio interface even with external mics as it avoids the need to use a laptop when recording - every additional piece of equipment is something else that can go wrong :-)
