I have those ! In the music store i've tried BD and Autotechnika and as soon as tried Sennheiser HD 280 Pro i got them straight awlay such a beautiful full balanced sound. It's a joy to listen to music with HD280 Pro !
Replacement ear pads for the HD280 are cheap and easy to purchase. I've been using my same 280's for 15 years. I periodically replace the ear pads and goodto go.
I have been looking at replacing my 20-something year old HD 280 Pros with perhaps some 599s or similar but the more I search the more I am inclined to just get another pair like you have. I love the sealed earcups, I love the comfort and I love the sound. Some of these other models claim to extend to ultrasonic high frequency extention but at my age I doubt I can hear past 10 KHz anyway and it would just be a novelty or bragging rights. Glad we're on the same page!
For years, I always settled on $20 Sony headphones, but recently, I ordered these from Amazon, because I always wanted a pair of Sennheisers. Glad to hear from many sources that I made the right choice. Cheers.
They are just outstanding all purpose headphones. I hope you get value from the other videos on the channel and consider subscribing if you haven’t already. 👍
I needed new headphones for the ‘micro studio’ I’m setting up but my my old (super-comfortable) akg semi-open backs had too much sound bleed (both in and out) for my shared workspace. I picked up a pair of these sennheisers. They are as great as you say - surprisingly comfortable, great sound isolation and, last but not least, great sound! Super recommendation. Once again, thanks Pete!
I had the original HD 280 Pro's, when they eventually fell apart I bought the HDM 280-13, which has a decent mic and a higher impedance - originally used with an XFi Elite Pro with an external mic' amp for the 28V floating voltage. Recently replaced the XFi with an AE-9. which has a phantom 48v built in. Primarily intended as my gaming headset - i wanted the closed design for ambient sound insulation at LAN events, I find i use them for almost everything. The main negatives are the band and ear cup cushioning degrades and falls apart, and they can be a bit 'sweaty' - I'd certainly prefer a cloth/velour cover, but I can live with it. Original set's headband spring broke, hence replacement. On this set the wiring to the speakers broke, which I replaced with some heavier gauge. Some of those issues - OK, ALL of them - shouldn't have happened (I'm quite hard on them, but not THAT hard!) however, for the price, I would still consider replacing them with the new model if there's a high impedance-mic' version. Sure, there are definitely better 'phones out there, but most of those don't have mic's and, for the buck, they're hard to beat.
I am searching for mixing headphones for a long time especially cuz my speakers and the headphones I use for musiv listening have more bass and everytime I try my song somewhere else I can't hear the bass barely. And it took a while cuz I am pretty new to music production and mixing so it's kinda scary to search for a headphones which ya can be sure the mixing would be better. And I already saw this one on number 1 on a mixing headphones list so I already was looking to maybe buy it but after this review I am pretty sure that these will work good. Thanks for the amazing video 😁
Very welcome my friend. Yes, I’ve tired a few different pairs but keep coming back to these. They even made my gear or the year list recently - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kHzS7KLqUps.html
Bro I was facing the exact same issue😂. Like I can't even boost the bass cuz like I don't have clarity with my speakers that which frequencies I'm actually boosting. I bought them just today. Also if you have a better budget , go for M40X .
Great review. I still have the HD 25 from Sennheiser. I mostly use one of my AKG studio headphones and sometimes the HD25 to check mixes. The funny thing is that I went on an shopping spree this morning. I’ve ordered a Sennheiser HD450BT with active noise cancelling for casual use. It will be delivered within a couple of hours. And I sure can have myself some noise cancellation because there’s a storm over at my place.
I bought some of these 2 weeks ago for my iPad Pro ,Some audio-technica ath mx 50s for listening back to stuff and a pair of Dynamic Audio DT770 pros which are he most comfortable plugged in my mixing desk can't decide which ones I like best the all slightly different with there own qualities but the 280s have the edge for mixing the mx50s are slightly more bass and the 770s the most precise and and comfortable but need more driving that's why there in my desk.....
I bought them about a year ago, I did like the sound, felt very comfortable on my head. Price was good, not much sound escape. Sad part is they broke on me today, cable issue? only the left headphone is working. I was very surprised for them to go bad, when I was the only parson using them, they were just plugged in to my PC. Over all great headphones, but I guess cable connectivity is very frugal.
Very strange? I’ve owned two pairs. The first are still going strong but needed pad replacements after 5 years. Never had a single issue with the cable however? Might be just bad luck there as haven’t heard of others having this issue either?
If yours are the same version as mine, it tells you which is left and right on the inside of the headband, right on the hinge/joint where the cups can rotate. There's a small engraved L and R on either side
This is one thing I still don’t have, however I do have some regular closed back sennheiser noise cancelling headphones which I think do a decent job. I don’t seem to get any noticeable bleed thru on vocals and I don’t think they augment the bass like a pair of Beats. I should still get some official studio phones some day tho! I think I wud like the spiral chord too. Mine have what seems like a 20 foot straight chord which I have tripped on several times. 😂
Best headphones for me And my go tos are my audio technica m50x rrp at £200.00 but well.worth every penny.perfect for clean mixes. Sennhesier are a wicked brand dont get me wrong.cant say I've tryed this bad girls yet..they do look good though forshaw...German audio gear is always quality stuff .
@@PeteJohnsMusic hey I'm always curious and trying to figure it out when I watch your videos you film when your outside but still havent been able to figure it out so ima ask. Wat country are you from mr Pete.haha I'm from london uk myself but living in herts...
I love these but sadly they don't fit the input on any of my Samsung devices. For example, I like listening to music or guitar tracks (I'm a guitarist) on my Samsung Galaxy S22, but none of the 3.5 mm to USB adapters fit my Sennheiser headphones. So strange. So, I can't use them.
That is extremely strange? They just use a standard stereo TRS input in my experience? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-za1-jPvjiMs.html
Question. You mentioned that these headphones isolate sound very well, as in they don’t let sound escape the headset. But on the other hand, how good are they at keeping outside sound from getting in? I’m tracking guitars in the same room as my amp and I run my amp very loud. Naturally, I want to save my ears.
Yeah they’re not exactly designed for ear protection, but do a decent job of noise isolation in my experience. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wh2guC9Ny5M.html
Isolation works the same both ways. If they block a lot of sound outward, it's also gonna block the same amount coming in. And yes, these are quite nice for sound isolation.
Is it just me or am I the only one whose ears get awfully hot and sweaty in ten minutes of wear? Ordered some velvet and foam replacement ear cups from ebay for $10. Hopefully an inexpensive fix.
What are these specific headphones for? Are they any different than a headset, and can you use these for gaming too? I’ve had problems trying to use these on my controllers, but to get good sound I had to crank the volume to max, which isn’t ideal. Have a nice day!
Please help; What do you think I should choose between Meze 99's, beyerdynamic 770's, sennheiser 280 pros, akg 361 or Sivga 006 ? Feel free to recommend any other pair.. I need closed back headphones mainly for playing with a digital piano (Korg sv2 to be precise). I'm wondering if the Sennheisers and beyerdynamic might be "too flat" for my liking and meybe the Meze are more enjoyable than the akg 361 and sivga 006 I've heard great things about. What i think I need is good imaging and sound stage. I don't want any smudging of the sounds so high detail.. tho I want the headphones to have a pleasant sound so I can play for long.. is that contradicting? Idk.
They are good for music listening but are very flat - don’t hype the treble or bass. Can sound a little different if you’re used to more bass heavy headphones.
Hi Pete, two quick question your answer will mean a lot to me. Did you find a difference in sound signature between your old HD280 and new HD 280? Did you find a difference in sound after replacing the earpads with the new kit on your old can?
I have the old model of HD 280 pro and I recently replaced the earpads with the new kit available in sennheiser store. To my surprise the earpads in the new kit is not same as my old earpads. Although they are of same shape and size they are clearly made of different material (They are more soft and have different texture). After wearing the new pads the sound signature changed to a considerable level. I always perceived the HD280 as more mid forward cans but after replacing the earpads they dont sound mid forward at all.
Hey there. I have noticed that the sound is not exactly the same on my new headphones, which I put down to the pads and fit being firmer and seating around my ears a little more. I’ll be replacing the pads on my old one soon so will share my experience there too.
