Josh you're not such a bad story teller. I still remember (and have retold) the story of you following a mountain goat down a mountain when you could not find a safe pass.

Excited to tag along with you (virtually). I hope 2021 allows all of us to get out more and to travel. When I visited a cousin in Germany, he had a note on a bulletin board that read: "The world is a great book, and those who do not travel read only the first page." That's so true.

Look forward to following your year Josh 👍📷 you are right, one can take on board too much information and give yourself too much to think about. Get out there and go with the flow and see what happens, good or bad. As a beginner that’s what I intend on doing as often as possible 🤞

Goals are so important! They are the reason I get up at 4 am every day and go out exercising in the dark and cold. My biggest goal for 2021 is to go on more adventures, record them and publish them on RU-vid. The only question is if I'll be able to go abroad, or if I'll have to do all my adventuring here in Sweden.

Josh, yours plans for 2021 just makes me appreciate having you ‘back’ again after your self imposed time away many months ago. Based on the comments below, we all enjoy your content and seeing landscape photography through your eyes both as entertainment, but also as an educational process. Looking forward to traveling with you in 2021 along with my own travel opportunities!

Practice makes perfect. I go old school and use 3x5 cards with the technique I want to focus on. I'll put the tips on there to help out while in the field and will focus only on those techniques for that trip. The repetition makes for muscle memory, and keep my old ADD brain on track. Unless there is an eagle, then all bets are off!

You are 100% right Josh the tips vids become overwhelming. As a teaching method I feel it is hot and miss. ...not to mention everyone on YouToob is using this approach, be different please! And you are refreshingly different - so thanks ;-)

Sounds like an ambitious and fantastic set to shoot for (pardon the pun, or, heck, just smile at it). Looking forward to all you bring our way Josh. Re: travel - I totally agree with you about how it gives you perspective. I went to school for most of the first 20+ years of my life. Then I put on a backpack for two years and went to see what's "out there" -- and got an education. Hopefully travel starts to become a reality again sometime soon.

Finally less talking heads/tips videos. I prefer in the field vlogs and see places that I will never get to see because I live in another continent. I really enjoyed the stories in your newsletter so I’d prefer to see them in video form instead of reading them.

I would like to hear more about photo book making philosophy. How to tell a story with the book and maintain a flow. I'm struggling with that now. How to organize a batch of photos in a way that makes someone want to continue through the book.

Glad that the direction is toward the experience and less about the "How To" content. Bring us along on your adventures because I really enjoy an in the field vlog, some settings and such are fine but only to describe the Why and not so much the How the shot was made. Looking forward to tagging along on your adventures.

Glad to see you moving away from tip videos. I'm sure it's challenging balancing pleasing the youtube algorithm with offering true value since those two things don't always align. I find I skip most 5 tips type videos and look more for stories or more in depth discussion of particular shots and how you got them. Really enjoyed your newest video about going over Dragon Pass. So bring on the vlogs!

One suggested goal - to create RU-vid videos with less annoying background "music". I found the passing airplane less distracting and annoying than the "music" I am looking forward to your efforts to achieve your 2021 goals.

Have you thought about doing IR photography for something different? I'm going to get back into vlogs and do more of an IR focus. Also, what calisthenics program do you follow? Been doing Adam Frater's shredded academy and having lots of fun with it. Also mixing in Simon Ata's program when I need an easier day.

Love IR photography. Due to my lifestyle I am limited for the times of the day to enjoy landscape photography - IR helps me out with that. Looking forward to seeing more vlogs on IR.

@@robtt27 I have some my IR images from 2020 in one location: www.zhullfamily.net/2020/Infrared-2020/ 2021 has been a little slow for me since I live in the rainy part of Oregon. So my IR images are still mixed with everything else I photograph. Same for my 2019 images since that was when I started to learn IR. Love the way you composed the images and the false color selections you used. I need to see more of this type of photography to help give me ideas. :)
@randybottphotography

@@Martin-nu6ym Yeah, we hit 9 inches of rain in Seattle in January. Didn't get out to shoot much. I figure with the false color that it can be any color I want. It is already outside the visual spectrum so have fun with it. I have a full spectrum camera along with 6 filters depending on the look I want.

Your plans sound really interesting. Frankly, many "tip" videos are not all that interesting because there is so much redundancy on RU-vid. A request: When you are doing a vlog about a place, remember that we know what you look like but may not be so familiar with where you are, so point your camera at the place much more often than at you! It is frustrating to watch a vlogger walking along and all we see is her/his countenance. :)
@alantuttphotography

All the tips in the world will do nothing for you until you take time to PRACTICE them. Practice using 1 new tip at a time, master it, then practice another. The ones that stick will become your style.
@gabyisphoto2379
@gabyisphoto2379 3 года назад
I couldn't agree more with your approach. for me "tips kills art" - you become more a technician of photography and you stop enjoying the essence of photography, which is your way to express the way you see the world.
