This is such a well constructed song... the verse is in a minor key while the lyrics are sad, then it switches to a major key in the chorus as the lyrics become more hopeful. And where some songs struggle to find 1 hook, this song has 3 hooks. Definitely one of my favorite of their songs.

ABBA were NEVER FOR EVEN A MOMENT "...the largest Corporation in Sweden..." - what a silly, ignorant notion - because ABBA, to begin with, was not a corporation like VOLVO and SAAB, etc. Both of which employing thousands upon thousands, for starters, a workforce that absurdly dwarfs whatever was the actual number of people on ABBA's payroll at any point in the pop group's existence.

@@kennyhuskisson2684 So do I - I was 11 when "Take a Chance On Me" came out. It was one of the first singles I bought and another being "Video Killed the Video Star" by The Buggles. Both singles blew my young mind. Just growing up with this level of musical talent was a privilege and then (obviously) 80's synth-pop and metal bands in the UK. I love rock and metal bands but still love ABBA even now. The wall of sound they produce in the chorus of "S.O.S." is just unbelievable - such a well constructed and well produced song. The one we sang along to as kids was (of course) "When I kissed the teacher" ... erm ... maybe one you shouldn't play now 🤣🤣🤣

One of my favourite ABBA songs isn't quite: Story Of A Heart, from the Benny Andersson Orchestra album of the sane name. I love so many of their songs but I think "What's the Name of the Game" is probably my favorite, mainly because it's about falling in love rather than breaking up and the video shows them in what seems to be happier times for them all. "Knowing Me knowing You" would be my second. Frida sings lead on that one and I think it's her best one. She also sings lead on "When All is Said and Done" which it wasn't a big hit single but it's very good and showcases her solo vocals well.

The blonde singer's name isn't 'Agatha' by the way, it's 'Agnetha' pronouced Ag-Knee-Tha (although I've also heard it pronounced Ag-Nyee-Ta as well). The other members were Ani-Frid (aka Frida), Bjorn and Benny (the guy with the beard).

"Dancing Queen" "Fernando" and "Waterloo" should be your next ABBA reaction. BTW "SOS" by ABBA is the only song in US chart history where both artist and song title are palindromes meaning spelled the same frontwards and backwards.

Agnetha is pronounced Annyetta, and your right about her voice. For me she is one the most underrated vocalists of all time. So jealous of you discovering all this amazing music for the very first time. There's a song you'd absolutely love called Eagle, as it's has a slight essence of rock in it, and the vocals form both Agnetha and Frida are stunning. Enjoy guys.

WTH? No. Where are you from? I hope they read my comment. It's not Annyetta. It's like Agneta, Ag-neeh-tah. Ag like in aggressive, ne as in neck but just longer e, and ta as in talk. But it's fine to say it with an American pronunciation, just don't say th or "Annyetta". I have no idea where you got that from haha.

@@Nekotaku_TV As a swede I can confirm that you are closer to the truth then Barrie Yeates but the G in Agnetha is almost silent, so not close to "aggresive" at all. To a swede I would describe the sound as ang-neta or for a englishspeaker as aahng-neeh-tah and the G in aahng not hard as in "anger" more like a soft/silent "young". And this is why a lot of english speaking people end up with this terrible "Annyetta" ( trying to get the really tough ng-sound right and then butchering all the rest...) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TWOxScYLoGc.html&ab_channel=HowToSay

ABBA has a very deep catalogue. When you dig beneath the most famous hits, you find even more great songs. In terms of style, except for pop I think they had a musical component to many of their songs. The two guys actually composed for some musicals after ABBA (for example Chess). So I think part of the secret is that it´s not just simple pop, the songs have a complexity to them as well. Musically, lyrically, conceptually, production wise and in terms of performance.

Back in the day when this song was a hit single I was stunned by it every time I heard it on the radio. A classical sound, pop vocal with a crashing rock chorus...just amazing ! As a young teen I instantly became hooked on ABBA through SOS. A couple of this group's songs I suggest a reaction to are 'Eagle' the long LP version and 'The Visitors'

ABBA was like a supergroup, with all members having a career of their own before joining up. Like Benny, who was in the Hep Stars: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pHbERZ8dSp8.html The singer in the Hep Stars, Svenne Hedlund, died in December last year. Sadly missed.

Yeah, 'Dancing Queen' and 'Mamma Mia' are great songs but they tend to get overplayed when it comes to ABBA. 'SOS', 'Knowing Me Knowing You' and 'The Name Of The Game' are my personal top three by them. But there is also 'Eagle' (long album version), 'My Love My Life', 'Our Last Summer', the beautiful 'Andante Andante' and 'I've Been Waiting For You'. After 'Chiquitita' check out 'Fernando' (14 weeks at #1 in Australia). 'Take A Chance On Me' is a super fun song too. For something completely different and unexpected from ABBA, the darker songs from their final years before splitting are well worth discovering. 'The Visitors' is both chilling and a dance floor banger while 'The Day Before You Came' seems like a love story but is haunting beneath the surface. Many more great album cuts too. ABBA is a deep rabbit hole.

so nice to see you with another reaction to ABBA songs I've been waiting for You (it's a little joke, because these phrase is a tittle of another ABBA song in these álbum) specialy because these is my favourite ABBA song of all times, 'The Masterpiece' for excellence between more ABBA masterpieces "S.O.S." (1975) has a story It was one of Their first recordings after the greatest success of "Waterloo" in Eurovisión, just four months later, in August 1974 But it waited almost a year for its release, in June 1975 at Sweden, September 1975 at UK and US (the next singles after Waterloo was, in these order: Ring Ring (re-entry), So long (at 1974), and "I do I do I do I do I do", and finally "S.O.S." when " "S.O.S." have your chance to be a single, it picks at #6 in U.K. and #15 in U.S. being Their second hit in both countries at the same time, and six #1 (including Germany Australia) and more Top 10 in several countries of all continents and after these, ABBA had 18 Top 10 consecutives in UK between 1975/1982, for example: Mamma Mía, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Take a chance con me, Chiquitita, The winner takes it all, Super trouper etc "S.O.S." in less than 200 seconds is a gem, a Masterpiece! The transitions from the dramatic opening (a dingy piano and a cracking voice of the blonde singerAgnetha) to a powerful rock beat with catchy pop chorus in the middle are brilliant ABBA marked an era in many ways One was the musical leadership of its beautiful and lofty female vocalists as the center of attention Another was the use of contrasts, such as sad lyrics with catchy melodies and harmonies And their recording tecnique "wall of sound" gives ABBA more powerfull ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, left an unforgettable mark on several generations It is good music that lasts and stays alive and well Thank you very much for your reaction; I hope to see you soon in next ABBA songs My next suggestion Is "Fernando" (1976) with the brunette singer Frida in lead voice My best regards to You from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South América

So many awesome songs by them! Both the women have fantastic voices, and blended together they are otherwordly. But I personally like Frida's voice solo more, Bit deeper, which I like. A great song that highlights her (like Chiquitita highlighted Agnetha) would be Knowing me, knowing you. Recommendation for other ABBA reactions would be Take a Chance on Me or Tiger,. If you want to explore more diversity from ABBA, try a couple of songs where the guys take the lead or co-lead vocals. Dance (while the music still goes on) or does your mother know would be two of those. If you do Does your mother know, I suggest you do the version that is live (from ABBA in concert.)
