I used to Dj in a small club in Canada and every once and a while we would have live punk bands play. We once had a pretty big hardcore thrash punk band in to do a couple of sets called S.N.F.U and they did the most amazing thrash punk, disco extended version of this. Watching punks, skinheads, skaters and goths dancing with pure unadulterated joy and singing Abba was one of the most heartwarming things I have ever witnessed.
@rik6696 that must have been an awesome sight to see, all those groups of people you would NEVER associate listening, singing and dancing to Abba, that would be the equivalent of die hard rap fans doing the same today. It has always been awkward to admitting that your an Abba fan, it's like you have to keep it a secret as it's very uncool to admit it, th same could be said about being a Beegee's fan
Thats interesting, punk versions of ABBA? Punk music is not my thing but it that was interesting to hear that they did a cover there of this great song and that people in the punk scene enjoyed it...its not the first people you would guess would do that...
When the Sex Pistols reunited for their 1996 Finsbury Park concert, the DJ thought it a good idea to play 'Dancing Queen' before the band came on stage to show what Punk had come to sweep away. He was wrong on that and totally misread the audience because thousands of punks, young and old, were loving it. Sid Vicious was a huge ABBA fan too. It's amazing how many Rock gods are open admirers of them.
@@chelseacharger Love this. I was a punk in the mid eighties and as a club dj in the late 80's, 90's and early 2000 I focused on punk, ska industrial, alternative and electronica. I think though, like most of us, we grew to love music through what we heard in the household and then branched out so even though as a teen and young adult I mostly focused on harder, edgier stuff and looked the part, hearing things like Abba or Queen hit that Nostalgia dopamine button and just makes you feel like a kid again. To this day if I dj a party I will be doing something like a hard Industrial set and mix in a random Fleetwood Mac song and people will lose their minds in a good way. Good music is just good music no matter what genre.
I would say in all of music..not just pop...all music genres...I cant see anyone topping them there...they didnt just do pop, they did rock too, dance rock, even metal,funk..disco..they mastered it all..thats another reason they are number 1.
ABBA can do ballads, ABBA can do disco, ABBA can do pop music, ABBA can do rock..........💖 As a Norwegian with a lot of Swedish blood in my veins, I was born and raised with ABBA. You can't go wrong with their music. 🥰
Im 63 now i also grew up with Abba in my ears and heart, never could anyone expect them to be such a great group, from long ago, yes i have many memories, greetings from the Netherlands Amsterdam
As the bass player in a rock band that used to cover this song.... I loved playing this song. Such a driving bass. Always packed the dance floor. more Abba 👍💓🎶🍻🇨🇦
There's another music reactor who has fallen hard for ABBA - he's done reactions to more than 35 of their songs, and still hasn't covered all of their classics. That's how deep their catalog runs. Hope you'll do "The Name of the Game" next, and then "Slipping Through My Fingers" - but Amber will need tissues handy for that one.
Bklyn_reau is a young black guy who has reacted to a lot of ABBA songs. He is totally in love with Frida. He makes me smile every time. Give him a listen
Such a great song! Very danceable. And I love the fact that this older guy is actually being a gentleman, and telling this girl to slow down, be careful, don't get involved with a guy who's too old for her. We need more guys like that.
Trust me, most guys are like that, but unfortunately, no one hears about them. It is usually the creeps that make the news, which creates the impression that most guys are creeps.
@@iykeharrison9161 Unfortunately, that's the news for you. They want the stories that attract the most viewers, like with the Covid pandemic. There were many people who survived Covid, but was that mentioned on the news? No. All you heard about was how many people had died from it.
@@jennifermartin7791 I would rather say we need more women that actually take responsebility for their own actions.. like we need more women like that.
@@Razzlion All adults should take responsibility for their behavior. I don't want to start a debate about grown women. In this song, they were talking about an underage girl. Probably there with a fake ID. Guys shouldn't prey upon minors like that, who are young, foolish, and don't know what they're getting into. While most guys wouldn't prey on an underage girl, there are too many who do, as police will tell you.
Abba were not teeny bopper pop singers. They were married couples who excelled at writing songs that dealt with the pain and struggles of relationships. Even their "happiest" songs had darker undertones. They went through divorces, wrote about clever, emotional songs and kept right on performing. There is depth and meaning in ABBA that resonated all round the world and still does.
They’ve probably already heard it like 1,000 times so it wouldn’t be a natural reaction. Unless you’re deaf anyone with a pulse has heard that song at some point somewhere.
You guys can't go wrong with ABBA! Jay, a little Irish cure for your complaint, double shot of whisky, squeeze of lemon, 2 teaspoon of honey,4cloves, top with hot water, drink go to bed, you will feel great in the morning, slainté ❤😊
Awesome version. Who knew Christine Baranski could even sing, let alone that well. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FdgX6qOJVL4.html
To me, ABBA and Steely Dan were the best pop groups of the 70s. There were many other good artists and songs, of course, but few (any?) other groups had such a vast array of well crafted compositions.
@@what-uc Yeah man! Real fans know that ABBA, BAAB, ABAB, BABA, AABB, and BBAA are all acceptable. But don't you dare lowercase the letters! You can't be considered a real fan if you do.
Y’all gotta create an ABBA playlist so we can see what all you’ve reacted to! You’ve gotta listen to Angeleyes, Kisses of Fire, Lovelight, Put on Your White Sombrero, The Visitors are all amazing & have so many layers of vocals, harmonies. Some more ear candy for ya!
YESSSSSSSS!!! I have been begging y'all to do this one, thank you! Another great Bjorn song is "Why Does It Have To Be Me?" For some more rocking upbeat songs, try "Voulez Vous" , "So Long" and "On and On and On." You also need to do the video for "Ring Ring", Bjorn is wearing like literal superhero get-up!
I love this song in Mamma Mia. Christine Baranski, who is a genuine Broadway performer does an absolutely wonderful version of this... And reverses the Gender roles...
This song is telling all the 12 to 15 yr olds in the audience that they wont be coming back stage after the show. I used to borrow my sisters record to listen to this song when it came out.
I’m 47 now from Liverpool, uk and grew up with these songs none stop at family parties, absolutely hated it. I now appreciate ABBA and all the the other classics, so good and make you feel good. Keep up the good work guys.
Thanks for another great reaction. This is a band that can always produce consistently good sounds. One that really blew me away because it's so different for them is a tune they did called Eagle. Really chilled out, I almost thought I was listening to Pink Floyd at one point, but an amazing tune IMO! Worth checking out. If you choose to, I'd recommend the long album version because the official video cuts off during the instrumental.
As a rock nut all my life (I’m 69) and STILL going to concerts with the same blokes I’ve been going with for decades,ALL of us have ABBA as our guilty pleasure. Couldn’t admit that back then, but over the years,I have absolute admiration for their perfect pop songs and don’t mind admitting it. More ABBA please.
Yep. They've got to get to it. One of their underrated songs. Might be a little slow for Jay, but the lyrics are great and it's really one of their best. Do the main music video.
When I was in 8th grade they used to turn a gym into a roller rink and we would have a skating party and that was one of my favorite songs to roller! That was back when family's still had values and kids were respectful and it was the best times of our lives!
I'm new to your channel and LOVE IT!! It's fun seeing younger people enjoying older music, and I usually return the favor by listening to and loving new music. In a similar vein, check out ABBA "When I Kissed the Teacher."
ABBA in the beginning was not the main project, but the duo of the musicians Björn and Benny, while the ladies Agnetha and Frida had their solo careers. and they even do background vocals and choirs in some song on their album as a duo in 1970 when the four together record their first song in English "People Need Love" (1972) they achieve a first local success, so they later make another recording "He is your brother" (1972) which will be #1 on the radio in Sweden there they decide to make an album "Ring Ring" and be a fixed quartet I suggest you look for these two earliest and first ABBA songs "People need love" is a TV presentation in Sweden 1972 "He is your brother" is live on tour in Europe and Australia 1977 (five years later) in both songs all four share lead vocals, in different ways Benny only sang one song "Suzy hang around" (1974) Björn sang several more, the main ones that he sang on tour or on TV: Rock Me (1975) Why did it have to be me (1976) share in parts with Frida & Agnetha
I remember recommending you give this song a chance since it was the only big ABBA hit where the guys take lead. As captivating as Anna-Frid and Agnetha are to watch and listen to, please remember it is the GUYS who play all the music AND (most importantly) wrote all their never ending catalog of hits. Similar to the situation with both Richard and Karen Carpenter (although Karen was a prolific drummer too).
Yes! Been waiting a long time for this one. It's one of my top faves. My VERY favourite is Summer Night City. It's a little Rocky - a little edgy - with an amazing beat. Just an all round fantastic song. I would also like to put in a request for Thriller for tomorrow night. Would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the video. Even if you've already seen it - it's perfect for Halloween night.
Well, there are so many people doing reactions to Dancing queen..its a great song, but its nice to hear reactions on other ABBA songs too beside that one..
This is miles and miles outside of the box when it comes to what Abba songs are like, but saying that, it is equally as brilliant as the rest of their huge catalogue of hits, it's unbelievable that they shocked the music world, and fans that they could go all rocky with this and yet when its played, everyone instantly recognises that it's Abba and how good it is
Next ABBA suggestion: Thank You For the Music. Absolutely outstanding vocals, and it's totally unique, even by ABBA standards. It's almost Broadway musical sounding. Check it out, I'm sure you guys will love it!
One of their last. (Well, until recently, anyway.) The extended re-release of The Visitors, the (onetime) final ABBA album, which has that song plus three other late recordings as bonus tracks, remains my favourite album by them...
Do the double react to this Does Your Mother Know Live at Wembley with Hole In Your Soul, the transition is amazing between the two songs and you will see all of them showing the world how great they were as live performers.
That is for sure the truth..unfortunately,it was also something that with time would make them less inclined to go on as it took a toll of them, especially on Agneta, with all the concerts all around the world..
Loving your Duran Duran shirt Jay! This was one of the first singles I bought as a kid with my own money. Love, Abba! As always you guys are awesome! I hope your kiddos have a fun and safe Halloween tomorrow 🎃💕✨
In the movie Mama Mia they swap the lyrics so it’s women singing it to a young man … you should react to watching it.. they even change the tempo a little.🫶🏻🇨🇦🥳
Another great song where Björn takes the lead is 'Why did it have to be me?'. Especially their live performance in Australia is very highly considered by the fans. And Frida is having a blast on the stage :)
I was in my mid 20s attending a family room in a park on Mesa, Arizona, when a great aunt put this on to get everyone to dance. It completely startled me, but my grandparents had also mentioned that they had recently heard about ABBA from other friends of theirs. My 85-year-old mother puts on ABBA to give her energy.
I love all ABBA songs, but this one is so much fun and it always makes me smile. Hope you react to the movie "Mamma Mia!" starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, and Colin Firth. It's a great comedy musical featuring over 20 ABBA songs. The scene where they have this song is hysterical! 😂🤣
Yes! Love this! Love up tempo and upbeat! The girls voices sound so different here, really high. I think there is a synth mirroring them which makes it sound so different and cool.
This song is fantastic live, check out the ABBA in concert version! Make sure to follow it with "Hole In Your Soul" from the same performance. Bjorn and Benny swear they didn't have a formula, but they certainly can write great melodies. Then Bjorn writes the lyrics to fit the melody. But sometimes I feel that Bjorn reverts to his teenage fantasies for lyric inspiration. They have a couple other male led songs, "Rock Me", "Why Did It Have To Be Me", "He Is Your Brother". Also, not male led, but check out "On And On And On".
My favourite ABBA song is one which isn't one of their most popular, it's also lead by Bjorn and Benny and it's called "Why Did It Have To Be Me". I would recommend it, it's so fun!
This is what I love about ABBA. You never know what you'll get whether it's ballads, rock, upbeat pop, disco. They proved you don't have to stick to a certain sound, they covered all genres. They only thing you do know you'll get with ABBA is great catchy melodies
I try to just comment on one song a day now so I'm not bombarding y'all with comments, but I had to comment on 2 today because they're such bangers! I've always loved this song; so glad y'all enjoyed it too! I used to dance to this as a kid when it first came out (9-10) in my room giggling like he was talking right to me. Lol. Fond memories :)
I absolutely LOVE ABBA! ❤ Given your reactions on ABBA songs “ Mama Mia!” and “Muriel’s Wedding” are movies you should check out because ABBA’s songs are a featured prominently in both 😊
If you like Bjorn's voice and his singing then you should definitely check Two For The Price Of One song of ABBA from 1981. Especially the live video in 4K with his german spoken introduction. This live is not very different from studio version. :) Also the early songs of theirs are nice and funny, like Another Town Another Train, Hasta Manana, Waterloo, Ring Ring and Love Isn't Easy. Eagle (studio verison with solo inside) is also great and Summer Night City.
Yay - my favourite Abba song!!! It so different, especially with Benny and Bjorn on leads, which didn't happen too often. As for the lyrics. I think its a good message. Kids are always sooooo impatient to grow up!
SO Great!!! Just love the tune overall, and It has So Much Energy & So Much Fun! You Guys Smiled the whole way through! :) Great Choice & Reaction... Fun seeing You Guys smile So Much!
This was the first song by ABBA I had ever heard at the age of 5 or 6. My sisters had a K-Tel vinyl record with various hits in the late 70's. Before I even understood the meaning behind the lyrics, I bopped along to this song on repeat as a kid! Another song from that LP was Bonnie Pointer's "Heaven Must Have Sent You" it's a BANGER!! Keep smiling y'all!!
I've been waiting for you to check this one out. So much fun. My pick for you (if you haven't heard it yet) would be The Visitors -- from their last album, completely different than their pop work. Very dark and mysterious.
I remember hearing The Visitors sometime in the early 90s where it was played pretty regularly at a retro club night we'd go to. I'd never heard it anywhere else and I loved it sooo much. Wasn't until years later that I learned it was ABBA. Mind blown!
The Visitors is easily my favorite ABBA song. Dark subject matter, relentless beat, halfway to New Wave, Frida's vocals metallic but beautiful. Only they could write and perform such a catchy dance tune about Soviet dissidents!
