I have both of these jpm, they play so fluid its unreal,I have a video of me meeting up with john at one of his clinics a few years ago and I took this guitar for him to sign but he decides to plug it in and play the ytse jam on it then signs it and gives me a pack of his strings and a bag of plectrums.very cool day that was
I have a MarkV 90w that he used/signed at a clinic he gave in my city, I bought it on the spot after the clinic was done, it’s one of my prized possessions and I’ll never part with it
The ibanez JP signatures are one of the coolest signatures ever made. The aesthetic on them are so cool. His tone in this era was more crunchy and raw while his tone now is butterly smooth. These go for insane prices. Would love to own one.
I think his tone depended more on how he dialed his amp, the pickups do change something but not that much. I personally prefer his current tone, I feel it's one of the most versatile tomes ever. You can play almost anything from pink Floyd to chugging and it works. Also, it makes the guitar sound like it's crying in a good way.
It is the steves special. Amazing pickup, it is a ceramic magnet but only medium output. My kiesel lithium has almost the same amount of attack and precense but the steves special is more scooped and the growl is in it's precense frequencies as opposed to a mid spike.
@@AndresGarcia-qk3sj the classic iic+ was way better in my opinion. Channel 1 and 2 is awesome on the jp2c. The second channel reminds me of the gain you could get on the clean channel of the originals and the cascading circuit. Pull deep is always on in the new amps though and I feel like on my mesa no stripe it tracks better and comes alive through a mic with the pull deep off but my power section is different than the simul class 100 watts. Still has the original iic+ transformers though. Also I have heard the tube compliment is not the same in preamp section, but the iib, iic, and iic+ models seemed like they were never each the same in regards as what was in the preamp between individual models or builds.
@@SHREDTILLDEAD You do realize that even inside those generations of amps there are differences in how they sound? No two amps sound the same. Besides, the circuit didn't change that much between the iterations - so it is much more likely to attribute the tonal differences to the actual variance of the particular amps that you played rather than the models. At least by reading the schematics and comparing them one to one, the impact of part value variations has a rather broad potential for sound impact. The circuit changes by comparison are rather limited in their influence (but very specific of course).
@@patrickh.1658 Yeah. But I’m just saying it’s cool that he’s not afraid to show off a good guitar built by one of his competitors. You won’t see the owners of Gibson or Ibanez showing off how cool a new Solar guitar is. That’s one of the things that has garnered Ola such a cult following. He’s always given honest, unbiased, no bullshit reviews of gear. And he’s demonstrated a looooot of gear over the years. And now that he’s found success making his own guitars, he’s still maintaining that integrity.
Petrucci when he was using a P2 and sporting the curly long hair and exposed chest was on the top of the world then. To Live Forever live in Tokyo is one of the most mind boggling solos ever seen.
I have the Original JPM 1 - I have to agree, I think these are some of the best quality guitars that Ibanez have ever made.

Hey man! Actually the "Shred" switch it's not meant to shred so to speak, it's like a 3k ish bump to play with 7 or 8 strings so the lower notes jump off a bit. So that's totally normal you don't like it to play leads cause it adds highs. :D
I love my JPM100 P1. My video on it is one of my most popular as well. There’s just a certain vibe and feeling it has that really inspires me to play and practice.
My favorite electric guitar of all time. I had a beautiful P3 in the past and, just like you, I sold it to buy something else… Lost, but not forgotten: now a beautiful 90HAM is in my hands.
I own the P2 now and it is an amazing guitar. The P1-Primary colors. The P2-Pastels. I got to meet JP at NAMM in 2013 and he said the P2 was his favorite out of all the color schemes. I get offers all the time to sell mine but its hard to part with. I had mine set up at the Ibanez facility in Bensalem by Steve who used to be JP's road tech during the Ibanez days and he set up to JP's specs. I'm the only owner since 1996. Mint condition too. The prices go for around $3-3500 now and depending on the collector even as high as $6500.
I think that is the best guitar Ibanez ever made. I have had a butt load of ibanez guitars, all Japan made and the JPM was by far the best of them. Thanks for vid Ola, wishing you and your family a stellar new year.
One thing I love about the JPM is how Ibanez moved the volume knob just a little further away from the bridge than your standard RG so that it's out of your way.
90s Ibanez are so nice. Just had my RG770 PN from 92 fixed at musikbörsen and even though I just play 10 times a year what a dream it is now....and I have never been able to sell it. think I shold try it now:)
I remember playing one of these back in the day was really nice to say the least. I remember getting a job to save up for one but by the time I had the money they no longer carried the JP . Awesome video
I had that one and the white/black (which was my favorite color scheme). They were such badass guitars. I sold both of them to get out of debt 😢 and I've wanted one again ever since.
I have P1, Its the best playing guitar in my collection, I have 6 Fujigens from the mid 90's, that factory was pumping out gold during that time period.
i had p2 and p4 back in the days when they were like $1300 used. it was alright guitars, so i thought i expected too much and sold'em all. then later, i've got chances to try out some prestige models which called not by the same name but j-customs these days, they were very different, and i've using for more than a decade now.
I'm not a Dream Theater fan as well. But I can say that Petrucci is an amazing guitar player, love his solo albums. I started listening to Fates Warning again this year after having not thought of them for a couple of decades, and my reaction was "holy shit! This is a likable version of Dream Theater" although they have been around longer. It's all just individual taste, no accounting for it.
@Zombie Frogg Nah, all the instrumental parts are boring as shit too. If I wanna hear that sorta music, I'll put on Rush and Pink Floyd at the same time. It'll still sound better than Dream Theater. Petrucci is awesome though, love his amp and he seems to be a stand-up human being.
Been watching this right after I saw the Coffee with Ola ep. with John Petrucci! So cool to think that at that moment you had no ideea he will invite you to his Guitar Universe camp! Well deserved! Awesome video as always!
Now these videos take on a whole new meaning!!! Now that I'm a proud papa of my brand new Solar, this thing is Beautiful..... These videos your kick ass I just learned like nine new Riffs Thank you Ola and happy New Year bro 🤘🤘
I had the P4 years ago (I shouldn’t have sold it :( ) and paired it with a Boogie Mark IV, instant Awake sound. I always remember how scooped was the sound of the Air Norton with all the combo. Ola, you forgot to demo that! I was waiting for it! 😂
I bought this amazing Ibanez P4 back 1999, and this is still one of my favorite Ibanez'es i have, and it still plays like a dream 💯 I LOVE THIS GUITAR. I wish Petrucci would play those Ibanez jpm again 🤞👌
I remember in 1999 being at college and playing that guitar at Daddy's Junky Music. I always wanted that model. It just had such a cool feel to the body. Felt very different than the other models. Thanks for showing it off. Brought back some memories.
Killer guitar Ola! JPMs and the first prestige models (rg3180, rg3220, rg3120, etc) have become really expensive because they're by far the best guitars ibanez has ever made.
I had a Ibanez jp1. Wish I still had it😕 Was going to replace with that one there (JP4)? I backed out because it felt way to light and cheap. Lighter than bass wood should weigh.
I'm not guitarist, but as a fan of DT since i was 12, i can feel the difference between JP Ibanez era and Musicman era, which is i like Ibanez sounds more.
I am fortune to own the JPM P1, P2, P3 & P4 only need the anniversary one to complete the set. You are right these are awesome guitars. I put them in real nice Ibanez cases as well.
Love the JPM Ibanez line.....the anniversary editon, 90 HAM, la the most beautiful and expensive model. P4 the second choice for me 🤘 keep it tight, it will surely be a great investment in the next few years 👍
What a beauty. Thanx for this one Ola, man you make my day bro. One of my favorite guitars ever. Wish to you and your family all the best for upcoming New Year. Big hug from Serbia dude 🤘👍🍻
I foolishly traded in my P3 to upgrade to the (then new) EBMM… Sadly, I never gelled with the wider and flatter neck on the EBMM and ended up taking a bath when I eventually got rid of it. Back in the day, I thought the EBMM was better in every way, but my personal preference in neck shape killed it for me.
Sorry to hear that.. The feel of the neck is the most critical thing on a guitar to me as well, hardware can be changed as required... How the picking arm rests is important too, the proper bevel position for my anatomy.
I wish I would have bought one back when JP switched to EBMM and they were less expensive. Great playing and tone! It's obvious you are also a JP fan :). I had a 2004 MusicMan JP6 with Piezo, great guitar. I sold it to buy a PRS :). We all do that OMG, I have to have this new guitar! thing and later regret it. I also regret selling the PRS (Solid rosewood neck).
Nice guitar Mr. Ola, too bad its not a Solar lol, dying to get my hands on an A series 7 string. you have been the inspiration for my crusty old self to learn a new instrument with your dive into the world of percussion. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Seeing you become so successful has brought a little light to my black heart. I wish you happiness and prosperity in the new year! You deserve it!
I remember being offered to buy a P4 just like that from a dude I met at GMF-planket back in the day. I think it was like 10k SEK (back then even the JEMs could be found at similar prices). They really turned out to be great investments. Now where's my time machine?
Remember playing the P1 in 1995 at Apple Way Music in Ft. Collins ColoRADo drooling over it but couldn't afford it so never got the pleasure of owning one...
Would be really cool to see John pick up an old JPM and just shred on it for old times sake. I love the EBMM line up and I own a JP15-7 but something about the old JPMs and Dream Theater nostalgia that you just can't escape.
so sympatic and direct having that fckn dejavu . same what i did with my Lag Guitar in 1991, i was so stupid selling that great custom shop axe. It got a floyd low pro included (best ever trem), so you can imagine what price this guitar today would cost. What a great sound that axe has! Original 💯😍🤘
The image on that guitar looks like it was done using Dye Sublimation, heat transfer. Those lines you see are the lines of the inkjet style printer that made the transfer.
3:41 Will you ever offer a Solar guitar with a low profile tremolo like this? That's my main complaint about your company's current offerings --- you only offer a high profile trem like an Original Floyd Rose, where the fine tuners stick up way too high (and get in the way with how I personally like to angle my picking hand.) If you offered a guitar with a low profile trem, or even a non-locking trem without the fine tuners, I would totally order a Solar guitar. A 25.5" scale, 7 string, with low profile trem, would be my preferred spec.
Damn I LOVE Ibanez Guitars... I just wish they made more X series and V guitars. I've got a few from the 80's but they could do FAR better today. Sick of Super Strats.... which is why I started buying more guitars from Dean and ESP lately... I'm a Solar virgin at the moment but I will definitely grab one in the near future. You got some awesome pointy models from what I've seen.
I wanted to buy a JP model, the multi color like rock discipline. Guitar store wouldn't work with me so I took my money elsewhere and bought a different Ibanez. Now I can't find jp model anywhere here in the states. You gotta a badass guitar right there.
Ola , you haven't got have the very best most expensive one for it to be killer , if you like it and it sounds good that's all that matters man, I love finding way less expensive guitars that sound and play awesome man ! It's like flipping a fingure to all the guys who think just because it cost a million bucks or has that name on it , it makes it that much better than everything else , if you can shred it up and crunch some rythme and it is supper confrontable , then that's all that should count!!!!
That's my guitar to bro ..the p 2 ..owned it since 92 95 Mabe ..awesome guitar could never get rid of it ..think mine cost $2800.. done lots of gigs....just a beast ...I wonder what it would be worth now ??..
Had Ibanez made him a production 7-string and not just said "Well... we made one for the guys from Korn, so... " he might still be with them today and they'd sell a ton!
I love John’s Majesty’s so much, and his other Ernie Ball’s, but I love the classic Dream Theater feel of the Ibanez JPM’s too. In other words, I love all of John’s guitars, they’re all so cool.
Since these vintage Petrucci signature Ibanez models are impossible to come by, if you are chasing this great tone pick up an Ibanez RG and mod it with a DiMarzio Steve's Special F-spaced in the bridge and DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck... Those were the stock pickups in the Ibanez JP signature model and to my ears still sound better than all the DiMarzio custom pickups he's sense designed for his Music Man signature models... The Air Norton is my favorite neck pickups, period. Such a badass pickup
I have an original late 1980's RG550, I bought it second hand in 91. It's had new pickups, new rosewood fingerboard neck, new pots, new switch, and it's in Crimson guitars at the moment having a new trem fitted. I hated the Ibanez trems, I didn't like the way the arm always dropped down, no matter how many new bush's were fitted! I preferred the Floyd's, so it's have a Schaller trem fitted! I think that the only parts from the original guitar are, the body, machine heads, and scratchplate?
Love my RG6005FEQM. Ola please demo the Dean Zelinsky Private Label StrettaVita and Tagliare guitars. They don't directly compete with the Solar Guitars (which I'm buying the green EX with Floyd) markets. You will be blown away.
