“I’m blind in one eye, partially deaf, my right arm doesn’t work and I’ve got brain damage. Oh, and my left leg’s missing too. Apart from that, I’m alright.”
Paul Vice MC spent 16 years in the Royal Marines before his career came to a shattering halt when he was caught in the blast of an IED while on his fourth tour of Afghanistan.
So severe were his injuries, he died twice on the Chinook that took him back to Camp Bastion for the surgery that saved his life.
Please take a few minutes to listen to his remarkable story.

@untrannify

Seriously? I understand what you mean. We should complain less about inconveniences, but also that doesn't mean we are inferior and making bad choices if we aren't happy and with such a zest. He even acknowledged, he'd rather keep all he has than get PTSD. Now, do you think it takes bombs to develop PTSD? Of course not. In other words, action-reaction. Those of us who are lifeless aren't this way for no reason. Many of us have wounds, pains, worse than what he went through in his life, even though we were never tlat a war. If he speaks, laughs, then he's not really disabled in one sense, just like you'd say "if you have all your limbs then you're not disabled." Like him, I'd say, give me a life where I can say "I loved ever minute of it" like he said, and then have my limbs taken away. Than a life where you hate every minute of it. It's not about him making a choice, not to hate every day, it's actually that life wasn't that bad to him. Mental and emotional injuries are not to be dismissed. Or imagine people who are innocent but locked in prisons. Where they keep their limbs. But how can they have a seat for life? Even when proven innocent and released, you've lost a decade, now what? Or, like this veteran said, he loved being a soldier, but then lost parts of his body. Which one would you choose? I'd choose losing limbs after having fun over losing a decade in prison.

Hey cheers to you Mate! I'm a disabled US Army Veteran. I've had multiple deployments to Iraq, Africa and Afghanistan. On April 11th 2011 our unit was ambushed by anti coalition militia forces, Haqqani and Taliban, in Kunar Province, Pech River Valley, Afghanistan. During the engagement I was severely wounded. Thankfully they were able to save my life all of my limbs, although I had multiple surgeries, years of rehabilitation etc.(Many of our guys weren't that lucky.) But the biggest blow for me, is that it put a big fat cross ❌ over my military career. Anyways, all I wanted to say, that stories like that are indeed huge inspiration for many. Keep up the great work. 👍

I remember watching the 'Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan' and was always worried about what Paul's long term outcome was. Such a character and I am so pleased to see he's doing what appears to be better than alright at face value. I hope to see you go from strength to strength.

Was an MP and my dad was in the army before me. Came across lots of soldiers and all are heroes and you are living proof of them. I have found that most UK civvies do not respect or appreciate the military like the US does and they should be ashamed. These armchair warriors should watch your movie and hang their heads in shame, as they would not have the guts to do what you did or the agonies you have gone through on their behalf. God bless you my brother.

Thank you Sir for your Service. You’re a walking miracle a testament to your courage and bravery but especially the skill and dedication of the Drs, nurses and surgeons who helped you through it. The first step was the medics on the ground and especially in the helicopter who never gave up on you. Respect to you and your fellow service men and women. Lest we forget 🌹

For those who havent had a near death expeince I can promise you it isn't as terrifying as you would think. It is calm and slow. You are filled with happiness for the ride you had, mine was a little bittersweet because I have children. But I knew it would be ok. Waking up in the hospital after and getting back to life was the hardest part for me. Not because I wasnt thankful, it was almost like I learned to much. It is still hard to describe.

@chadlucier
@chadlucier Год назад
@@don611 I do not have any current disability though I imagine when I am older some injuries will start to impact my life. My situation happened very fast. Maybe 1 second. Time slows and I experienced a recall of my experience and a divine peace. While I was 'gone' I wasn't nowhere. It was somewhere and not at all like a dream. Very hard to describe that part. I know when I came back I wanted to stay but the more conscious and alive I became I realized I had to come back.
@chadlucier
@chadlucier Год назад
@@don611 I was very lucky. When doctors use words like "miracle" it hits hard. If wondering it was a car accident. I sustained a TBI and a broken back. I was in bed for a while but walk and even snowboard regularly.

@@chadlucier I m glad you are okay. And hope you will stay strong. I always worry that something like that will happen, but I feel that it will. I hope you don t get problems later in life (I worry about that too) My advice is to seek now how to minimise problems in the future by doing the right exercises and seeking a bone doctor ( don t know what you call them in english). Also keep learning new skills and reading. Thank you for sharing :). Hope you don t mind my advice!

Paul mentioned an important fact within this dialogue that, "charities are the backbone of the injured veterans community", and that's a sad fact. Sad, as our government do nothing and offer very little help (if any) to our veterans - it's a sorry state of affairs.

This man has insane mental strength. How he managed after after being injured 3 times on 3 different tours. Remembering himself waking up when hes getting cpr. It's just insane. Catastrophic bleeding from his fucking neck. His team and himself are insanely good proffessionals. Back when i was a soldier for the Dutch Landmacht. The first thing they said in basic was "If you get shot or hit by shrapnell in the neck. Say your prayers, say goodbye to your dearest ones and hope by some miracle that you wil make it." How this guy did not end up with PTSD is insane

I was badly injured in a motorcycle accident with head injury, spinal fractures , tears, dislocations, left side loss of use, etc. I am thankful to see your story and inspired by you ❤ I found your story similar regarding both the mental and physical aspects. I laughed about your idea to ditch the leg because I share your views - If it's a hindrance, make it go away... At one time, I wanted my left arm gone due to that severe, relentless pain. Agreed ❤ the cries are necessary, and I appreciate hearing you speak that. Sometimes, you just reach the point where it's too hard, and you don't want to quit, but you deserve to damn well cry. It helps 'shake it off' to keep going 💪. Thank you sooooo much for sharing all you have. I am still grieving and working hard at trying to wrap myself around my new me, some 5 years later... just, thank you ❤ I won't stop. I feel renewed to seek what you found; that new passion that'll come close to what I want back.
