I think it's because they're the ones most heavily associated with UA. The detective is the one leading the League of Villains investigation, Best Jeanist and Edgeshot are graduates, etc. The ones who don't stand with them make a lot of sense -- Endeavor and Gran Torino are loners, the Pussycats are their own team, and Mount Lady is an up and comer (not actually sure if she's a graduate or not). Ultimately, it's a card that has all of the heroes who directly attack the League of Villains to save Bakugo in the same shot, which was probably the key focus.

I know this really doesn't have much to do with this, but I wanted to make sure people saw this. I have a problem with the OP and I wanted to express my problem as clearly as possible. PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING FIRST BEFORE YOU REPLY! I want to say that Midoria's starting position to go break of into a sprint is horrible, and his start sucks more than Thirteen's quirk. I have done 12 seasons of track as a part of the sprint group. I am not very fast, but I at least know how to start properly. Dude is a genius going to a school to basically hone is body into perfect condition, but nobody taught him how to start properly? ANY WAYS, my frustration aside, I am going to break down exactly how bad it is, (I needed to pause the video at 2:56 to write this beacause I couldn't let it go, so you know how crappy his start is) in no particular order: 1). Midoria has his hand flat on the ground. If he wants to go at top speed, it is much more benificial to have the hand raised up on the fingertips, with the thumb out perpendicular to the palm. The tip of the thumb is supposed to be directly below the shoulder. the rest of the fingers are supposed to be slpayed out to provide stability. This could also be replaced by, because he is in a three point start, he could use just the tips of his index and middle finger to start if he doesn't want to get into a full crouch. The reason for doing this is to get into a low position to turn as much of your leg power into horizontal force, while still leaving enough room for your legs to move as much as possible. Him being that low is squishing his legs limiting his power. 2). The positioning of his hands in relation to his feet. This is a big deal. This *THE* bigest FREAKIN problem with Midoria's start. 2-a). Midoria needs to switch wich hand isthe one on the ground to provide better stability because most of his mass needs to now be over the right (which may be a reason why he feels the need to have his palm down but this still makes no sense). Meaning that if he were to be trying to take a step, he is moving his left arm over with his left leg, and his right arm with his left leg. This positioning will have him lurching forwards akwardly, and more likely (Because this is Midoria, the guy who can't figure out how to land) he will just fall flat on his face. 2-b). Midoria could switch his feet, depending on which leg is his dominant leg. If it is his right leg, switch hands, if the left, the hands are fine. Midoria should also be aware that when he starts, his body will want to move oposite arm to oposite leg. This will result in Midoria moving his left arm up forwards, and then starting to sprint. Costing precious time. 3). Midoria just springs upwards like an idiot. Also his form is horrible, but at this point I think that this is just par for the course in the Animie industry. But his por form is shameful and could have been fixed in like a google and an afternoon. They had months to work on this, and nobody bothered to se if it was acurate? In a professional stetting? I know it's a little detail but, and here's a real kicker, *IT MAKES EITHER MIDORIA LOOK STUPID AND/OR THE TEACHING STAFF AT UA ARE INCOMPETENT!* I know you could try to spin it as symbolism as Midoria is still young and has much to learn, but it makes him look like an idiot who doesnt know how to run even if it kicked him in the butt. Also loving the analysis. Anybody else? I also hope that the rest of the OP doesn't have a problem that gets me this riled up again.

I am confused too. I thought that the issue is that the animation and the song clash with each other (which is true) but the song is perfectly fine.

It's great, the full ver is also amazing. All 3 songs on the single are FLAMES. Especially Odd World, it's got their signature mix of styles down to a T.

Dude/tte, absolutely. Music minor myself, and while I don't necessarily think that's an end all to "Is this good or bad", I can say confidently that the builds, transitions, and escalations in volume and base match extremely well to the OP, anyone who says otherwise does not know what they're talking about. If you just don't like this music, that's absolutely fine to all those out there that don't, but to say that it's anything short of an A fit to the video is absolutely absurd. Personally, I do like this song, although I'm pretty sure that came off biased.

But it begs the question: Why doesn't Momo Yayorosu get more focus in the opening? I'd say her role in the arc this opening represents is about as big as Todoroki's role.

That’s true but what I think he means is that he’s not really important from a character perspective. As in he doesn’t have that many lines in the arc even if he is vital to the plan.

Spoiler He was there when Bakugo gets kidnapped, was the first one to decide to go save him and also your point about saving Tokoyami. I guess Mothers Basement is not a Todoroki fan :)

Either of them can actually be considered as something good. The uniting thing between heroes and villains. AFO always was acting with Tomura as if he was his child - or at least I took it as such. Those scenes shows though that All Might is an actual successor - who took OFA fire with him. Tomura still is only a child - he is dependant of AFO and still isn't ready to go by his own. We don't know enough backstory about Tomura's, but there has to be reason behind him being under AFO mentoring. For me the scene next to TV had other meaning - when Tomura was confined by his father's hand (foreshadowing to maybe some abusive backstory) AFO, saved him and took his under his wings. He gave him love that he needed.

Yeas I see what you mean! Like I mentioned, the hand on the head can also be interpreted as loving and reassuring. It might have sounded a bit harsh in my comment but I genuinely that Tomura and AFO have one of the most fascinating relationships in the whole story. And it's true that AFO did save Tomura when no one else did and seem to genuinely care for him to some extent, even as he contitioning the child to hate and destroy. I think it's another testimony to the OP greatness! A simple shot like this one can be interpreted in many ways, without being contradictory.

Also they needed that fire transmission. However, I wonder if they are foreshadowing that some fan theories may be right and that Dabi's actual name is Todoroki. That would give use three people from this family - every one in different age, every one believing in different things. One being fake hero, second being villain following Stain's ideas and third one having knowledge of both of his father's sins and Stain's ideology - overall choosing to be not only good hero but also a good person.

Part of me wonders if it also continues with the theme of passing to the next generation since his father was the first fire transition and he's going in the opposite direction and he's the last fire transition.

well damn. after playing the op on an actual good speaker and not my crappy mac, i realized just HOW MUCH more of a difference it makes; the op at first sounded extremely simple and sloppily put together, but there are so many hidden parts that you literally cannot hear on your average phone speaker that add SO MUCH DEPTH to the op.

If you can't hear the nuances, it's just a bland, generic autotuned-sounding pop song. I don't think it's weird at all that it's unpopular to many while at the same time being deeply beloved to others.

I think what you say is sometimes true for non-animated movies or shows, but when you have to animate something like this you put a lot of thought into it. Maybe people interpret the message differently, but there is clearly some intention beyond "well i like it this way" there :D

The full version of that song is the most disappointing of all the intros though. With every intro, the full song is basically that, but an expanded version. With Odd Future, it's got way more vocal effects and such, and it kills me that the greatest part (the drop) is at the very end of the song. I was hoping for a bunch of that and goddamn it.

I've been a fan of UVERworld ever since I heard D-technolife in Bleach's op and while I firmly believe they have no flops after hearing odd future in bnha first (curse Sony music japan) I was very disappointed with it. Like it builds up at the end?! Tf? I love how they experiment and I deeply respect Takuya as a songwriter but...whose call was that? Nobuto's dream song in comparison...jkjk Glad to see im not the only fan disappointed in OddFuture tho

To be exact, i'd say it's about two growths : the one of Deku, which is the main emphasis cause he has the most screentime being the protagonist, and the one of Shigaraki, maybe secondary but at least on the same level of importance, the story being these two fates rising simultaneously on the opposite sides of the spectrum, until their final showdown and the victory of the one who grew the more.

Siragon Excellent point. That's something that I appreciate about MHA. Some have moaned that Shigaraki hasn't gotten much development, but really he has. It is just that Horikoshi has been much more subtle. And really, I argue when we do get their final clash, it will be something truly special. For much like how Midoriya has embraced the destiny of One for All; Shigaraki will embrace All For One's destiny. And that will be brilliant to see.

Manga reader here. The answer is, nobody knows. Its not clear who deku is telling his story too. It could be anyone really. Though that would be a touching story really. Like saying that he's telling the story to his successor over a period of them training to inherit the power. But yeah, it is clear that he's telling someone in the future about his journey to becoming the worlds greatest hero.

Jessie Ward nope. We’re as clueless as you are. But most likely he’s telling the story to his successor or his kids.

For now, he is just telling the story to the audience. Telling us about his life of how he became the world's greatest hero. The manga just started a while back and honestly the anime started up very fast after the manga had gotten some chapters in. The creator, Horikoshi, is just focusing on this story and probably hasn't even thought about something like that yet.

There is a child character being set up right now named Eri who Deku's trying to save from her abusive upbringing and who seems to have grown a bit attached to him. So I could totally see a point in the future where Eri's like "Hey, how did you become so powerful?" and Deku tells her the story of how he became 'the greatest hero'. But that's just my makeshift theory.

Manga is nowhere near that point yet either. :P It's not really clear what the framing device is here.

Totally Not A Cat It also goes along with the fact that this series is both a deconstruction and a reconstruction of its genre, dissecting those free tropes that its genre gets away with as well as affirming why we love them in the first place. So, naturally to go along with it, the openings change in style instead of being the same sounding J-rock OPs we get for every Shonen anime OP.

Nathan Vertil Wait, I don't know what I missed but... I don't remember à trope being "dissected." A trope dissection normally requires your world to fully delve into the consequences of the trope. The closest thing to that happening is quirk inheritence/marriages... But that was never the main point of the show, and was only relevant in one side character's back story. A show can have unique ideas with a realistic tone without it being a "dissection."

Alex Kendall I believe what he meant is the "trope of the anime opening", you know...like how most of battle/shonen anime opening or even the previous HeroAca opening, where the song start somewhat calm and get hype in the middle..

Eh he's not really talking about the music, just the visuals in the op. The only parts of the music he mentioned were obvious things like the massive beat drop and how the tempo picks up afterwards. I don't think you have to know anyhting about music to point those out.

Angel Vega It is by far the worst. The only good thing about the song is the last 15 seconds. At least all of Op 3 was decent, unlike The Day which was all fantastic or Peace Sign which was mostly good. This new Op is garbage in comparison.

Greg Sanders lol op 2 and 3 sounded like it was made for children while this song with the visuals is modern and a lot more hype to it. Op 2 and 3 to me was the most garbage ops I've heard in my life and I felt like a kid whenever I saw em to childish for me.
