Only problem is if a bad guy breaks in, all he has to do is open a drawer and he becomes an armed bad guy. Or they show up when nobody is home and load up the truck with a dozen free guns. Even if your guns are in little pistol safes, that’s not going to stop theft. I always keep at least one gun close to me in my house, but I don’t keep any guns so far away that someone else could get to them before I could. Especially when I’m sleeping, every gun that’s not in my safe will be in my bedroom with me. When I’m not home, most if not all of my guns will be in a safe to minimize the heartbreak if there’s a burglary.

I have a large 90 pound doodle dane (half great dane and half standard poodle) She barks at everything and can hear a rat piss on cotton. My security cameras run on my own self hosted blue iris server. My defensive tool of choice is a 9mm PX4. (I'm that last hold out who still prefers a double action first shot hammer fired pistol). I have your typical monitored alarm system. When it goes off, its loud enough to wake the neighbors. As you see my setup is pretty typical. (dog, cameras, alarm system, and fire arm). Thank you for sharing your setup.

I have to agree with the dog statement. We have a 95lb. male German Shepherd and a 130lb. Great Pyrenees/Bernese Mt. Dog mix. They can hear people/animals outside long before I know anyone is near. They’re not aggressive dogs, but their actions make people think otherwise when someone approaches our house. The person(s) trying to break in probably isn’t going to go ahead and come in with them growling and barking at the door/window. If someone were to come inside, my dogs have already woke me up and given me time to arm myself.

@kevinmoore6640 Год назад
That answer usually depends on if you have kids, or a felon in your house. If it's judt me and my partner my guns go wherever they make the most sense. If they're kids every gun gets locked up at night. One fighting pistol on a bedside fingerprint ready safe

I think the AR for home defense in the Iowa boonies is great, but here in metropolitan SoCal, I go with a 12 gauge with home defense load calculated to minimize (over)penetration. The 1301 has 7 in the tube, cruiser ready. The M2 has the same number of rounds, but one in the chamber, secured on a holding platform that will survive an earthquake.

@mr.browning7.624 Год назад
Just food for thought I'd suggest stepping down to 2.75in 00 buck in the 12 gauge. You really don't gain much ballisticslly by using the 3in shells and they have significantly more recoil and it reduces your overall capacity. Just my two cents
@garyterwilliger1456
@garyterwilliger1456 Год назад
@@mr.browning7.624 15 .32's is better than 9. As far as recoil, probably won't even feel it. Ever go hunting?
@mr.browning7.624
@mr.browning7.624 Год назад
@Gary Terwilliger yes, I've been hunting. But that isn't exactly relevant. Sure, you could argue more pellets is better but seeing how effective 8-9 pellets of 00 buck is, there's really no reason to step up to the magnum loads. And there absolutely is a recoil difference, more so if you use low recoil 2.75in shells, which I generally recommend. Because again, having control over your firearm is important.
@garyterwilliger1456
@garyterwilliger1456 Год назад
@@mr.browning7.624 So when you shoot at a duck, did you notice the recoil? Probably not. And you're probably using magnums. Shooting for blood, does make a difference.

Great explanation of your home defence philosophy and why you choose your tools. Houses with exterior lights on and alarms help to deter criminals. Dogs make them consider robbing a different house. My Dogs instinctively know their jobs are to alert me to a threat. Then show me where the threats are. Then it's time for the human to deal with the threat! Great point, have fire extinguishers and fire / Carbon monoxide detectors for every bedroom. You are much more likely to have a fire, than an intruder. But be prepared for both!

Thank you so much for this video. It was very educational and your dog is so cute, sorry, off track a little... I wish I could get back into target shooting. It's been over 3 years since I owned guns and went shooting. I live in Hawaii, which is possibly one of the top strictest state's to own a firearm. I used to have a collection of guns, not that big. Around 12 total. It was always a hassle trying to register every single one of them with the 2 week waiting period and going down to police headquarters, twice!!! I got to know a few of the police officers, some of them were pretty cool. We finally have concealed carry here in Hawaii, but there are so many restrictions on where you can go, you can't go anywhere with your firearms!!! Foolish liberals, law's like that only hurt law abiding citizens not the criminals!! Love your videos, so glad I found them. Oh yeah, the reason I don't have firearms now, is because of stupid COVID. When your body is full of adrenaline and there's 💩 in your shorts, auditory exclusion is a real thing, you won't lose your hearing. I don't doubt a PCC being effective, but the whole hearing thing is really not a concern that's legit in that kind of situation. I've shot firearms indoors before during training in a shoot house, yeah, if there's no adrenaline dump, it definitely is much worse, sometimes temporary incapacitating, but when it's the real thing, it's almost as if the shooting didn't take place. It's hard to explain why or how the body works that way, but until it's experienced in a real situation, most won't grasp or believe it, I know I didn't until I experienced it.

Test it yourself at a gun range. He's not wrong. 5.56 is a tiny projectile going very fast that gets its lethality from fragmentation. It is literally DESIGNED to fragment. Think about how much urban combat took place during the GWOT and yet the military never needed to switch to frangible ammunition
@quayshawndameron1349
@quayshawndameron1349 Год назад
@@armorers_wrench I'm an afghan vet and combat medic, its true its meant to fragment the m855 round. But the entire idea of 556 is to penatrate light cover and hold course, while being lightweight. That's the whole point of the round and drywall is light cover. Fragmentation happens when hitting fluid such as the human body, I've done live training on hogs in TCCC treating bullet wounds and studying them before I deployed.
@toddk1377
@toddk1377 Год назад
@@quayshawndameron1349 Well 5.56 and 223 vary in terms of projectile variations. M855 is a penetrator round for light cover, but a 223 sp round is not and will fragment very quickly, even after going through sheetrock. Shooting coyotes, I can tell you something like M855 or any fmj for that matter puts a hole through them, but most varmint rounds, VMAX rounds, and soft points explode inside them and not exit, even at close ranges. Bonded bullets like the 64 grain sp Winchester load or Federals trophy bonded bear claw will expand well but will blast a hole straight through a coyote because it doesn't explode and dump 100% of it's energy in the target, but these same rounds are also barrier blind so they will penetrate thin barriers like walls and such more so than the rounds previously listed. That's the beauty of ammunition on the civilian market vs military ammunition, way more varieties for a variety of situations and things.

I have dogs in the house at night. One of which is terrified by gun fire. I'd rather not destroy their hearing, if the SHTF inside the house. So, suppressed anything is my preferance! Plus, i'd like to keep my situational hearing then, too!

Never buy a high point c9 9mm. Piece of Turd jammed on me alot. My hollow point now is stuck in the Barrell 🤣. Glad now I bought good handguns Sig Sauer SP2022 and CZ P01.

I love shotgun as home defense. A friend of mine told me that's too loud. Well, if you're in a gunfight, I don't hear anything. I don't know to some people. Some people are very particular in that loud sound.

Wow. That is the most information in fourteen minutes I've ever had. Good stuff. Glad I found your channel. I have every confidence that if needed, Dang will bite an intruders nuts off to protect his fam. An intruders worst nightmare is running back out of the house without his nuts and an ass full of lead.

I'm just an armchair quarterback but I've seen a bunch of police videos where 9mm doesn't always incapacitate a bad guy quickly unless you have good shot placement. So in conclusion, always use the Mozambique drill 😂

Handguns suck in general if you don’t have good shot placement. And even if you do they’re only ok at best.

I suggest maybe an extended magazine for that reason, because also, concealment is not a factor

People living in apartments ought to consider a good .380 for carry and home defense. Convenient for day to day walk about carry, plus eliminates most of the concerns in home defense. Or, a good shotgun is always a proper choice.
