@Ron_C
@Ron_C 4 года назад
Well that sounds like a pretty cool idea for a shack! It really depends on how much area you the around the shack. Most would say to put up a dipole, some would recommend a Hex beam (I'd like to have one). I'd really consider the bands that I know I'll be working, or want to work, do some reading to determine the pro's and cons of them, get the requirements for height, length, etc and then decide what would fit in my area. Good luck and keep me updated!

Not a bad setup at all!! Keep it simple!! I haven't posted any pictures or videos of my shack cause, well when I first got in I wasn't on RU-vid and from 96 to 2006 my setup at one time looked like a NASA control center. I had phone patch setup, ran three different packet stations had 3 different HF stations, a amp for the HF, had several 2 meter mobiles, 10 meter mobile, 6 meter mobile and a MFJ 6 meter ssb transceiver. I had two towers up, one 20 footer with a 10 meter beam and a dual 11 element phased 2 meter beam, and one 30 footer with a tri-bander beam on it. I was the President of our local ham radio club, WV Fone Net Manager on 3.865 MHz, Net Control Station, I was a Army MARS operator and at one time before I got out of the hobby I was the WV Army MARS Director. Then I got out in 2006 due to some medical reasons and sold off everything. Fall of 2017 I got back into the hobby and bought me a used Yaesu FT-757gx station, matching power supply speaker and a matching auto antenna tuner. Sorry for the long comment. Just saying simple is nice!! Juddie WD8WV

I checked out your QRZ page! You def had the Nasa control center going on there! I'm fairly new to the hobby. Got my tech in Nov. of 2016, General in March of 2017. I started teaching myself code that year and have been at it, not as much as I should, since then, so studying for the extra exam took a back seat.
@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures
@JnJTrueOutdoorAdventures 6 лет назад
Ron C good luck on the extra and the code. I almost got my extra with the code, I passed the theory no problem took the code test twice and just couldn't get it then before my certificate for passing the theory expired the FCC did away with the code requirement so I went to a test session and turned in my certificate to get my upgrade. But this is why I want or do QRP! I have no problem sending but copying is a different story, it better be at 5 - 8 wpm!! I have built the two Pixies and was out in the back yard trying to make contacts, nothing but did check the reverse beacon network and saw a station in Hamilton Ontario heard me and posted it. So 300 milliwatts from WV to Canada is good to me!! Catch you later brother! 73 WD8WV

Hey Ron, I was just looking at your attic video again, it reminded me of a attic video that i saw once. This guy on youtube had his ham shack set up in his attic i can't remember the video that i watched, but your attic would make a great place to set up a ham shack. you would definitely need a air conditioner up their in the summertime.' Your antenna farm looks great hope you have good results Ron. What did you use to get your antennas up in trees so high? Do you have a air cannon? All that i have is the MF-2268 clamped on top the close line pole. I am disabled and i have a hard time tossing a wire up in the trees i was thinking of getting a 22 cal dog launcher tool the type that hunters use to train hunting dogs i think that i can get one on amazon or ebay. I will be looking into it soon.The vertical is nice but their is nothing like a dipole antenna. I bought one of those whizz loop antennas like Tony used at his mom's house in New York on ThanksGiving, and a couple of other videos in Florida, the problem with the whizz Loop, is you need to be on the second floor of your home to get any reception at all. I am out of luck because live in ranch house on a cement slab Well 73' Ron thanks for your videos and ideas that you have given me god bless you and your family 73's have a great day ! Kevin
@Ron_C
@Ron_C 6 лет назад
Thanks for all the awesome comments Kevin! That attic would be a nice shack, but it's got vents in the eaves, etc...no way to keep it warm, or cool!...To get the antenna in the trees, I use an arborists throw weight and line. They make a special slingshot for that, but I think it costs over $100, so if that is in your budget it would be a great tool. Another Ham I follow on YT has it, his channel is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-23htC7azAi4.html you can see it in action. I looked at the loop antennas, but I didn't like the need to tune it everytime you changed the frequency...I've got a linked dipole to use outdoors, some verticals....and plenty of wire!! &3 Kevin and God Bless you and your family as well, brother.
@KLCKLC-vi6fd
@KLCKLC-vi6fd 6 лет назад
Ron, I like the Slingshot idea, in my younger days i was a pretty good shot. Before my dad Moved us from Pittsburg Pennsylvania to Mi in 1962, I lived in a small town named California PA and there was nothing to do but play in the woods as a young man. Me and my brother at arms, were well armed with are pocket knives and our slingshots, and a bag of marbles for ammo. We occasionally got the General to sneak our the heavy artillery (Daisy pump BB guns) past the the sergeant of arms while she stood guard over the mess hall. Brother those were the days. By the way Brother, The picture that i have posted of my face for the RU-vid icon is circa 1973 i am a little more seasoned now. Thanks for the new info about the slingshot i am going to give it try. 73' Ron
